I own a Blackberry Bold 9790 (Bold 6) and this application called Social Feeds 2.0 came pre-installed on it. I initially neglected it and went on to configure the basic features of the Blackberry phone. When I later got to it, I felt I should have configured it earlier.

Social Feed app lets you stay up-to-date with your social networks and receive the latest news and information from the blogs and websites you choose all in one place, on a single application.

According to RIM and which I’ve confirmed myself:

The Social Feed application in the Social view, allows users to view updated feeds from their social applications such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace, as well as their instant messaging applications such as Yahoo Messenger, Gtalk, etc. You can also post updates to your social networks and update your instant messaging statuses right from this application.

While in the News mode, you can read RSS web feeds and blogs. It has the option to let you view full feed items in the browser, this will take you to the originating website on the browser. You can also create views and search your feeds by keywords.

Configuring Social Networks on Social Feed

From my own experience, Social Feed automatically adds any social application it discovers on your Blackberry phone to its streams and you can start to see updates of your social activities on Facebook, Twitter, MySpace on the Soacial Feed app.

Configuring and Customizing Feeds and Views

Some Feed from Reuters News are already pre-configured here, just click on your choice, press the options button and choose “Save”. You can easily add your own by clicking the options button and scroll to “Add RSS Feed”, you will be provided with a list of popular feeds that you can choose from. If you wish to add your own feed that is not on the list, just type the feed URL and click “Search RSS Feed at”, the site feed will show up. Check the radio button beside it, press the options button and select “Save”.

Don’t forget to add cynamix feed to your feeds. Just follow the steps above and type in cynamix feed URL – www.cynamix.net/feed. This way, you can get to read the latest on cynamix in your Social Feed App.

Blackberry Social Feed – Social Networks, News And Blog Feed In One App

I’ve been getting this particular tweets severally at my Twitter handle (@cynamix) that BBM icon disappeared after they upgraded from their previous version of Blackberry Messenger to BBM 7. This can be really frustrating. Although, I’ve not been in that situation before but I could sense that in the nature of tweets and DMs sent to me. This is getting more and more prevalent by the day on Blackberry. There seems to be one issue or the other when an upgrade like this is made. Such was the case when and upgrade of Blackberry Appworld was made. People couldn’t locate the icon and hence could not use Appworld. If you are facing that problem, here’s the solution.

Back to the issue of the disappearing BBM icon, first you need to check if BBM is installed on your Device. You can do this by going to Options » Applications. Check if BBM is installed. If it is, then you should then check if the icon is not by any chance hidden.

On your home screen, click the Options button and select “Show All Icons”. Enter into every folder and do the same until you find it. If this proof abortive, then proceed to the next paragraph.

Check the version of your BBM and the version of your OS. Note that you must be running OS 6 or higher as I described in the post that talked about the announcement of BBM7. If you are not running any of OS 6 or higher, and you can find BBM 7 installed by going to Options » Applications, then you have to downgrade BBM even if you are using OS6 or higher versions.

Note that you must have deleted BBM 7 from your device. Delete it from your list of applications by going to Options » Applications.

4 Applications For Sharing And Getting Blackberry PIN Of Nigerians

These are steps to follow to check if your MTN, Airtel, Etisalat or Glo SIM card has been registered officially by your Network. It can be frustrating registering with this road-side kiosks claiming to register every SIM from every network. I’ve been a victim before and I couldn’t go back to them to confront them when I hadn’t got a proof that it has not been registered. After some digging anyway, I got the solution to check if your SIM has been registered and recognised by your network.

Some networks like Glo and Etisalat (in my case) do sent message from time to time to remind me to register my SIM card before I finally did. I don’t know if they still do that though. If they still do, it would be easy to tell after 24 hours of registering your SIM and you still get messages from them. You don’t have to wait for this anyway with the tips I’m going to give you here!

How to check if your MTN is Registered

Send REG as a message to 789. After sending the text to 789 with your MTN SIM card, you will get a reply confirming that you have been registered if it was actually registered, otherwise, you get a “not registered” message.

If your sim have been registered, you will get a service message saying:

2348031231565 has been registered. Thank you!

2348031231565 is your phone number!

How to check if your Airtel SIM card has been Registered

The only way to check if your Airtel SIM card has been registered as at the time of writing this post is by calling 111 on your phone or by sending an email to customercare@ng.airtel.com

Once you get to the website, chose the network you want to create a .prov for and fill in the required information, save and download it to your computer or your phone and send to a China phone.

The following are the sets of information you need to provide:

» Working IP Address
» Access Point (APN)
» Port, and

any other information required on whichever website you are creating your .prov file from.

How To Create Prov Files Offline:

You can also create .prov files offline on your computer. All you need to do is to download this software, install and run it on your computer. Follow the steps by filling in the required information and create your .prov file. Use the same procedure as above to send it to your phone and save it as settings.
Those are the two methods that I know by which you can create prov files for your java phones.

Scheduling a post in WordPress to post at a later date or time is very easy. You only need to edit a few settings and you can publish your post at any date you want, even a past date. Yes, it’s possible too.

There are several reasons you might want to manipulate the date of publication of a blog post. They include but are not limited to the following:

1. You don’t want a post to appear on your home page: I do this a lot and I will continue to do it. There are some posts that I think I should have posted a long time ago and I think it wouldn’t speak well to have them on my front page. You will have some other engagements that will take you off the internet on some days, except you don’t have a life. If this happens to you, you need not fret any more because there is a solution; you just might not know about it. You can schedule your posts to appear live in future, you don’t have to be online. People normally ask me how I stay online round the clock but the truth is, I don’t stay online 24/7. How then do I make posts even in the night? I only schedule my posts to any date and time I want. Some can argue that they have WordPress applications on their phones and can publish a post at anytime. Yes, there is WordPress for Blackberry, WordPress for iOS, WordPress App for Nokia and so on; but what if you go out of coverage? Think about that.

3. When there is nothing to blog about: this is one of the many things you can do when there is nothing to blog about. Just bring an old post that is still relevant to the front.

To start back-dating or scheduling your posts, follow the following simple steps:

To Schedule A Post In WordPress For Publication at a Future Date:

1. Write your article and carry out all necessary formatting. You can also preview and read through to check for any mistakes. Save it as draft.

2. Now open the article again, at the top left position, just beside the post editor, locate “Publish Immediately” and click on EDIT.

3. Now set the Month, Day, Year and Time you want the post published. Click OK!

4. The “Publish” button will now change to “Schedule” and that’s what you have to click after you are done with the post.

To Back-date the publication of a post in WordPress:

Follow steps 1, 2 and 3 above and change the date to a past date, click “Okay” and then “Publish” when you are through. The post will be published immediately but recorded as published on that day you set and will not appear in your recent posts.

To Bring an old post back to the front in WordPress

Follow steps 1, 2 and 3 above and change the date to a past date, click “Okay” and then “Update” when you are through. The post will be re-published again at the set date and time.

These are good themes you can try out and stick to if they meet your needs. Sometimes, a single feature you need might tempt you to want to change a theme but I normally advise that people to:

1. Look for a hack first to get that feature: an example is the case of someone that changed his theme because he needed to add footer widget positions which can easily be achieved using a simple hack. Another example is when I needed to get featured image to show on home page for some clients’ blogs.

2. Look for a plugin: I don’t normally advise people to use a plugin but if you don’t want to mess with codes, plugin is the best choice. The Post Layout Plugin adds a very good feature but this can be done by adding some codes to your blog files.

5 Free Simple, Three-Column, Widget-Ready WordPress Themes

I always tell aspiring bloggers who ask me questions about starting their own blog a particular question. In fact it is the first question I ask them and many of them are always like “why?” The first question I normally ask them is this: What are your interests and hobby? This is very important because if you want to be successful as a blogger, you have to blog about something you are passionate about. That way, you can always get something to blog about. Are you also thinking about starting your own blog? This is the first question to ask yourself.

This is really important because you have to maintain a regular posting pattern as a blogger and stick to it. If you are posting once in a day or once in a week, stick to it. Don’t be a blogger that will make 10 posts this week and no post next week. Successful bloggers don’t operate like that.

That duly pointed out, I must also tell you that no matter how passionate you are about your niche, there would still be times when you will find nothing to blog about. I can bet it has happened to every blogger at one point or the other. If you ever run into this situation there are few things you can do to get an idea of something to write about or just do to make your blog active for that day.

What to post when there is nothing to blog about:

Check Other Sites In Your Niche: this is the first thing I think you should do whenever you run out of post ideas. In fact you should do this everytime and not just when you run out of post. This way you can keep yourself abreast of latest developments in your niche.
When you get to these sites in your niche, take your time to read their posts and you can get ideas of what to post or just write on a post they have already written on. Don’t just copy their posts, it will make you a copycat. Of course you can extract from their posts and add your opinions. This is what is going to make your post different and don’t forget to show some love to the owner of that post by adding a link back to them even if their PR is PR0. Apart from making you a copycat, Google will also punish you seriously for that. Take note.
Can we move to the next one? Okay, read on.

Check Your Blog Comments: if that fails or you are just too lazy to go to other people’s blog to find post, check your blog comments. You can find comments or questions that will bring up a post idea. Someone might have even requested a post already.
This is an example: I posted about how to unlock ZTE modems sometimes ago and mentioned that after unlocking, new profiles should be created for different networks and they can start surfing the internet with different SIM cards. In the comments, someone asked me how to create a profile for Etisalat and I quickly addressed as a new post called Internet profile configuration for all Nigerian network service providers. I didn’t include it in the first post because I thought everyone knew about it. I was wrong.

Check Your Archives For Posts You Can Update: yes there are some posts that situations on them has changed over time. You can simply look for these updates to add to the your old posts. Just go through your archives and read through the posts there.
After updating the post probably at the end of the original post, you might want to add date to the update. Something like: Updated: 01/07/2012.
I can always a post like this any day: Collection Of Websites To Download Free Full Version PC Games.
I would just find one or two websites to add to the collection.

Bring Old Topics Back: this is desperate but what can a man do? Sometimes we all feel like Bruno Mars on some days that we don’t feel like doing anything. Still, you have to make a post today, don’t fret and go desperate. Change the published dates of some posts that changes haven’t affected and those posts will come to the front page. You have to change the date to the current date to effect that action and many people would not even notice. A post like “Firefox add-ons every blogger should have” may not be affected by change over a course of 10 years.

Check Your Emails: many users would always send you emails from time to time. When you run out of posts to make on your blog, scan through your emails and you might just get one post idea from there.

I did not include this in the points because I don’t really like it myself but if that’s what you need to do, do it. You can get free content from some websites on the internet. Free articles are badly written and are found on many other websites on the internet. This is not good for your blog you will agree.

Follow these few tips and you will never go a day without a blog post as a result of lack of post ideas.
