Cypriots from Nicosia to Pafos are complaining that the ravaged roads are unsafe to drive on, causing accidents, and damaging their vehicles. The outrage from the community has brought out the typical political action in Cyprus -- to defer blame and point fingers.<br /> <br /> It was reported by <a href="http://bit.ly/5xa5UF">Cyprus Mail</a> that Pafos Councillor Polis Polydorou went on a media tirade, laying blame with local sewage board SABBA (where he is a board member) and deflecting blame from the government. He even went as far as encouraging residents to sue the contractors -- and residents are supporting him. Wake up people -- you are being had!<br /> <br /> It is sad to see that residents of Cyprus are so neglected by the government that even the slightest show of effort is met with resounding praise. We must be smarter than that. The government is in power to represent and act on the best interest of the people. It is the government who created SABBA. It is the government that pays SABBA. It is the government's responsibility to make sure all public works are carried out in the safest and most efficient manner. It is not the responsibility of the residents of Cyprus to follow up with the government or to sue its contractors when mistakes happen.<br /> <br /> We must hold the government responsible. They got us into this mess of potholes and sinking roads, and they must get us out.
