Random Thought....Bathroom Etiquette

My super-hero day job is in an office, and the picture above is basically how our bathroom looks. I would put an actual photo but I don't want to give away my secret location.

I have to vent because I don't understand if the entire bathroom is empty except for the ONE stall I'm using why do these woman feel the need to use the stall RIGHT NEXT TO ME?!? all those empty stalls and you feel the need to pee next to me?

Honestly this is not fill in the seats and proper Mary Manner etiquette states you need to give a person some potty room space!

I moved to the Dirty Jerzee like 11 years ago, give or take a month. Even though I was not born a New Jersian I pretend to be. I go to the shore, I take forever to get ready, I've put in my mandatory tanning hours :) I love my state! Jersey pride WOOT WOOT!

In support of all things Jersey related, I watch all the Jersey shows. In the course of doing my state related research (I dvr everything!) I started watching the Style Network show Jerseylicious and have been hooked since day 1.

Jerseylicious is what reality TV was created for. Full of drama and hilarity. The Gatsby Salon is my dream workplace just for the show these girls provide. You have to love them and hate them, I can't even describe how invested I am in there lives. I could possibly be classified as their official internet stalker. When I'm ready to have my offical makeover(extensions included) THIS is where I am going. Probably number 4 on my bucket list.

Overall, I love the pink packaging it's girly. The products smell clean and flowery. These are definitely products your husband/live in bf is going to stay clear of. They scream feminine and I love it.

The price range is perfect for any budget and I'm shocked. The Gatsby Salon is high end and could have easily capitalized on the shows fame. I admire that kind of class, and I hope these products surpass my expectations.

I'm way excited.

The Makeup Show NYC 2012

I am a huge fan of James Vincent and The Makeup Show NYC, I've been going for many years now. I've dragged countless friends and made more every time I'm there.

This year the show landed on Mother's Day, it was the perfect gift to myself. I arrived at 930 in the morning and was greeted by my idol the moment I walked in. To the delightful jealousy of everyone on the line I was treated to a HUG and a KISS... James is amazingly talented and a beautiful person. I missed the blogger even the day before so it was really nice to just see him and hang out for a second.

After collecting my friend Michelle from the mile long check in line, it was time to get down to business.

If you've never been to the event the show is held on two floors of the Metropolitan Pavilion and veterans like myself know the lay out like our own apartments. Your given first row access to new releases by your coveted brands in their vendor booths and access to presentations and live demonstrations. Brands offer their pro-memberships at discounts and you can even sit in on classes being taught by master make up artists. Not to mention meeting some fabulous people along the way.

I've been to the show so many times I already know which brands are going to madness as the day goes on so my first stop of course was MUFE. Make Up For Ever was upgraded to the second floor of the show and the space was greatly appreciated, this year I only got elbowed twice checking out the new inventory and I was even able to snag some goodies without losing an appendage! Progress :)

It's MUFE's first launch for Summer 2012, introducing the new Aqua Shadows. They will be released nationwide to Sephora stores tomorrow, May 17th.

I actually had the pleasure of previewing the line and playing with the colors at the New York Makeup Show on Sunday (another reason it's a fabulous event!).

The new collection consists of 12 portable shades from neutral to smokey with matte or pearly finishes. The Aqua Shadows are 100% smudge proof and melt proof. This is color that stays put no matter where the day or night might take you.

The pencils where a HUGE success at the Make Up Show with everyone scooping up as many as they can before the release tomorrow. I myself picked up three shades for my personal collection.

I use the aqua pots on everything all the time, they are just a fabulous product. So it was a natural progression to come out with the a crayon. Makes it easier for anyone to use and the colors are just as phenomenal as the pots.

Review: Garden Alchemy - Wild Angelica Bath Salts

Mother's day if officially over. It was an amazingly busy weekend for me. Everyone pretty much knows that I volunteer at a domestic violence shelter every year the Saturday before Mother's Day. This year I ran the makeover makeup station. 6 hours on your feet can be beyond hectic. Although very rewarding :)

Then it was the NY Makeup Show on Sunday, which was a blast...I even got a hug and a kiss from the MAN himself James Vincent (adore him) but more on that tomorrow.

Being that it was technically MY day and I spent the weekend pampering everyone else, when I finally got home at 5pm yesterday I needed a "me" moment.

I received a sample of bath salts from Thymes' new line "Garden Alchemy" in Wild Angelica.

Wild Angelica is an infusion of Green ivy, red magnolia blossoms, wild angelica, galbanum and dusky violet petals. I am not into overly flowery fragrances so I was concerned I would come out of the bath smelling like the garden booth at Home Depot. It's worrisome when you first open the pouch I'll admit, but you have to remember the powder is concentrated. Once it hits the water it is a truly lovely fragrance. It's not real sweet or perfumey its very spa like. Clean, relaxing and smooth. Exactly what I needed to end the weekend.

The powder is also infused with epsom salts (my feets and lower back really loved that!) and moisturizing extracts of velvet flower and milk thistle (my powder white heels and elbows say gracias!!!).

The whole experience had me thinking I was on an episode of the Borgias, just so decadent. I could picture myself in a huge wrought iron claw foot tub with my hand maiden bringing me pots of hot water and real sea sponges as candles flicker around me, a harpist playing Bach in the background. So very ooh la la, I was quickly brought back to reality when the dogs decided it was time to find out why mom is taking so long in the bathroom. The fantasy is pretty much over when a five pound fur ball comes charging into the bathroom and puts half his body in the water then steals your towel.

It's good to know that I can always get back to relaxation at any time. The new line is on the pricier side, however the envelopes will only cost you $5 for one 2oz. The 7.9oz shower gel will run you $18 dollars, the 50 oz bubble bath elixir will cost $50 and a candle $27.

I'm definitely going to stock up on the bath salts, I have a feeling those are going to get real popular.

Pastel Perfect from Make Up For Ever

Pastel colors are everywhere this spring. Here Make Up For Ever shows you how to make the look more wearable for every day.

Step 1: Apply nude eye shadow from the upper lash line to the crease.

Step 2: Using an eye shadow brush like MUFE's # 10S, sweep your favorite pastel eye shadow from inner to outer corner of the eye, extending just above the crease while leaving the outer corner open.

Step 3: (Optional) Apply a pop of pastel to the other corner of the lower lash line for a more colorful , playful pop.

Review: Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector

Most of the products I use are recommended by my friends. I'm willing to try anything but there are times were you need to listen to your friends.

In this case my bestie Michelle picked up a new moisturizer, I'll just let her tell it :)

So ms. dBeauty Junkie I think you need to pick a tube of this stuff and try it…then review it. I bought one last night bc my Mario Badescu moisturizer finished and I needed something fast, surprisingly even though its tinted is really good. For one day so far I like it. Its smells great and its non-greasy plus its not like the usual tinted moisturizer that leave this residue it kind of disappears and its makes your skin very soft. So far I’m a fan …and it even has SPF 15 ….

its called BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector ….its like a balm I guess. Its weird because I was VERY skeptical and when I put it on this morning I was like dang this thing just disappeared. I was pleasantly surprised. I love the way it smells.

With a review like that I definitely think I'll give it a shot. I have combination skin and the drastic changes this NYC weather, one day 87 the next 45, is punishing my skin. I have dry patches on my cheeks and my forhead is so freaking shiny you can see your reflection right quick.

Has anyone else tried this out?

Get The Look: Nicki Minaj

While out in the tri-state area promoting Pink Friday: Roman's Reloaded with her hairstylist Terrance Davidson, Nicki has been sporting a pretty subdued look. Hair wise at least. :) here is Mr. Davidson's tricks of the trade to score Nicki's look at home:

GET THE LOOK: Adding lift and volume that will last throughout the day is simple if done right. Starting with damp hair, mist strands with a thermal-protecting anti-breakage spray, like the Davines MELU Shield. Then dry each section with a natural bristle brush and angle the blow dryer down towards the floor. “I love the Epic Nano Pro Dryer because it has Ionic Intel. I can decide if I want to smooth the hair shaft or add volume!,” says Davidson. “For this step I recommend the negative ion setting because it closes the hair follicles and smoothes the hair shaft.”

Once hair is completely dry, set the front pieces in large pin curls while you tend to the rest of the hair. Using a straightener with negative ionic output to lock in moisture and eliminate static and frizz, like the Slim Epic Flat Iron, take small sections and pass the straightener through the hair until the desired straightness is achieved.

Release the front pieces and with the Epic Nano Pro Dryer set to positive, apply a root-boosting hairspray to the roots, like Philip B’s Self Adjusting Hair Spray to help add body and shine and dry the front sections to lift the hair at the roots. Pass the straightener through the hair once more to smooth and finish.

Get The Look: The Katniss Braid

Even though the movie varied from the book on many points, everyone has to agree it was visually stunning. Most of the scenary, costumes and makeup is exactly what I pictured in the book. With the exception of Cinna who quite frankly was much better in the movie :D

I've been asked how to achieve the Katniss braid, since I completely suck at doing anything complicated on my mop, the gurus at Sachajuan were more than willing to help me help you. Check out the deets below:

Step 1: Brush Hair Well
2. Using a comb, make two triangular sections at the forehead, the base of the triangles along the hairline.
3. Apply SACHAJUAN Volume Powder to roots at your sectioned parts throughout the braid
4. Section out a second part underneath the first about three inches back from the forehead.
5. Use SACHAJUAN Medium Hold Hairspray on each section to add grip.
6. The second piece/section goes under the first and first piece goes OVER the second.
7. Braid as usual but the key is to remember that the braid goes to one side. The pieces you pull from the opposite side must always be UNDER and the outside pieces always go OVER.
8. Continue the braid so that it wraps in the opposite direction around back of head.
9. Secure to side with bobby pins.
10. When your finished, spray a little extra Volume Powder at the roots to keep volume and finish with Medium Hold Hairspray.

I stared for awhile because I couldn't believe I actually owned one now and second because I wasn't sure how to proceed next. I watched the DVD and decided there is no time like the present. Time to put up or shut up.

I added about 8 drops of foundation into the cup on the stylus and started spraying. I was lucky because the first foundation matched, not that I stopped to actually check to make sure. The compressor makes a humming noise that's noticeable but not loud where you're annoyed the machine is on, after a few moments it's nothing but white noise anyway. The air flow is pretty strong for such a small machine, so you need to be vigilant when spraying if you stop in one area for too long you get these ugly blotches. You also have to moisturize moisturize and moisturize your skin the slightest dryness is magnified three fold if your not careful, I so learned that the hard way. If you pay attention keep the stylus moving you can achieve some pretty phenomenal results.

The process of applying product and holding the stylus at the correct distance is tricky since I am so used to applying makeup with a brush. It's a habit to get too close to the face with the stylus but once you've mastered the distance the sky is the limit.

The coverage of the foundation is very light, so if you want full coverage you need to add more drops and make a few passes around your face. Your basically adding the coverage in layers. Always one layer at a time let it dry and set before you apply the next one. If your worried the more layers you apply the faker it will look that's a moot point. The foundation is so light. It's not the same as traditional foundations. It is so far removed from the standard liquid foundations you don't have to worry about caking it up and looking fake it's not possible if you take your time.

My husband actually took over the makeup application once he saw what I was playing with and I'll admit the boy has some talent.

Here I am after he has applied a full two layers of foundation and the glow product around my eyes and down the center my nose. The airbrush system gives you this no makeup look you just can't beat. And it's LIGHT, feels like you have nothing on at all. I actually have model skin in these photos.

The light in the bathroom gives off this reddish hue it's not the foundation, so just a heads up. I can't wait to put on a full face this weekend. These are just the previews I'll have more photos and hopefully a video this weekend :)

Thanks to the Husband Phil for the fantastic makeup job he did on me. I may have to hire him as my professional airbrusher!

The airbrush system is definitely an investment piece. If your willing to work at it and use it often you will get your monies worth. I adore the product and I know I'm going to get a lot of mileage from it. I already have plenty of girlfriends lining up for me to do their makeup.

Reveiw: MAC Lustre Lipstick, Cockney

I picked up MAC Cockney, an orange based semi-opaque red in a lustre finish. It was originally released in 2009 with the Euristocrats collection but was added to the permanent line.

It's a great orangy red that will bring you up on the current color for spring summer. I'm not bold enough to go for the full on orange, I figured Cockney could ease me into the trend :)

It's a really nice color. Anyone else have Cockney in their collection. I know it's juvenille but I'm definitely going to keep saying Cockney all day HA

You all know how much I adore MUFE products. They are a staple in my makeup bag, I would work for them professionally but I'm sure I would promptly be fired for moving my desk into the sample closet and living there. I'm pretty sure that would be frowned upon, a girl can dream though.

MUFE recently launched Rouge Artist Natural. These are vibrant lip colors that provide light lip coverage with mega shine.

Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Natural ($19, Sephora) are formulated with lightweight pigments and mother of pearl. I would say it's similar to a tinted lip balm. The texture is super smooth and glides on. There are 50 shades and three finishes: Satin, Iridescent and Diamond, so I already know your going to find a color you'll love.

I received a press sample of N35 an iridescent Orange Pink....Oranges are really in this season and if your not ready to go for bold tangerine this is the perfect in between shade to get the runway look without a shock to your system.

I really like the coloring it's subtle but gives that needed pop to bring the look together. It's great for every day at the office. For night looks these colors are great over Rouge Artist you can create some bold sick lips that will stand out.

I have recently discovered this amazing brand. I use them for everything from facial cleansers to body lotion. They are a really good brand, on the pricier side but definitely worth the splurge if you can.

Review: Benefit They're Real! Mascara

I got into a bit of a debate with a friend of mine recently regarding mascara. I'm all for length and volume without having to put on falsies. I have non existent lashes so I definitely need all the help I can get. When time permits I have all manner of false lashes to choose from, however I'm usually doing my makeup at my desk in exactly 10 minutes while eating breakfast and answering emails. Not the best scenario for lining up lashes.

I was in Sephora the other day replenishing my stock when I came across the deluxe sample version of their They're Real! Mascara

It was only $10 and a really good size so I figured why the heck not. The results are instantaneous:

That is using just two coats of mascara on my lashes. I have to keep it simple at work but this weekend is HUNGER GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I definitely plan on getting a Girl on Fire look going :D

This is SICK! I'm pretty sure this is the first time this has been done but I've been MIA for awhile so who knows. In any case...Renowned makeup artist Mally Roncal is going to give away TWO trips to NY Fashion Week. Yes you can reread that. There are two trips to NYFW up for grabs.
