CALL FOR ENTRIES: AESTHETICA SHORT FILM COMPETITION

The Aesthetica Short Film Competition 2011 is now open for entries! It’s a fantastic opportunity to get your work broadcast to a wider audience and Aesthetica are keen to see entries from both new and established filmmakers who are driving short film forward. The winning film receives a fantastic prize package including:

~ £500 prize money (apx. $800)

~ Screenings at film festivals across the UK, including Rushes Soho Shorts (London), Glasgow Film Festival (Glasgow) and Branchage (Jersey)

~ A weekend filmmaking course, courtesy of Raindance

~ 12 months membership to Shooting People, the international film network

~ Inclusion on a DVD that will be distributed to all Aesthetica readers (60,000 viewers)

The runner-up will also receive £250 (apx. $400), as well as DVD publication. Films should be no longer than 25 minutes but can be any genre including artists’ film, music videos, dance films, horror and comedy or anything you can think of!

Georgia Films Create Georgia Jobs

The Georgia Entertainment Industry Incentive Act has encouraged many filmmakers and television producers to select the state for various filming projects. According to a report released by the Georgia Department of Economic Development, the economic impact of production activity increased 440 per cent between fiscal years 2007 and 2010, surging $1.4 billion.

Hundreds of interior designers, film industry art department professionals, builders, suppliers and local manufacturers are busy creating sets for the most amazing display of creative collaboration for THE NEXT COOL THING in January. This three day event will feature exhibits based on a film or television theme and showcase local talent and resources for the purpose of building the infrastructure for the growing film and television industry as it explodes on to the scene spurred by the recent 30% tax incentives for the State.

“We realized the need to bring the creative communities together to introduce them to each other,” said Barbara English, ” when Craig Miller, of the Georgia Production Partnership (GPP) and I discussed the perception that the state is lacking adequate resources to accommodate new business being generated here from Los Angeles and New York.”

“There is nothing the entertainment industry needs that can’t be found locally,” said Barbara, CEO of TO THE TRADE ONLY, “The challenge is that many of these businesses have been marketing strictly to the housing and construction industries and have no idea how to tap into the entertainment industry. Not only are there needs to supply for building sets, offices and production facilities, a lot of entertainment professionals are relocating to the state. This offers a huge opportunity for new business and growth for the design/build community where markets have shrunk over the last few years due to the slump in the overall economy.” One example is the Screen Gems 50 year lease of city property at Lakewood.

The GPP partnered with TO THE TRADE ONLY to create awareness nationally that Georgia is rich with local talent in addition to mild weather, fabulous shooting locations, an international airport and the production talent already located in the State. “What Georgia needs to service the movie business is more of what we could consider an art department to rely on,” says Craig. “There has never been such a demand for these resources as there is now.”

Craig Miller of Craig Miller Productions is past president and current public relations liaison for the GPP. He was one of the original founding members of this non-profit organization largely responsible for lobbying tax incentives to grow production industry in Georgia. The GPP boasts hundreds of members to date. THE NEXT COOL THING is a GPP fundraiser at the VIP Gala, Saturday, January 15, 2011.

The three day affair starts with a Red Carpet Cocktail event Friday, January 14, 2011 at a building donated by Selig Enterprises in the West Midtown Design District where many production facilities are already located. Tickets are available online at The Next Cool Thing. Saturday, January 15 and Sunday, January 16, the event is open to the general public during the day. The VIP Gala is by invitation only. Thousands of industry professionals are expected to attend.

Partners in producing this event include Entertainment Design Group, Radish Lighting and Peachtree Tents & Events.
