Research Engineer

-Develop process solution, new material development and process feasibility study for product innovation projects

-Coordinate with Research teams globally to develop and optimize process feasibility, material development and implement key process trials

-Develop and train the site technical teams on processes for product/process/material development, best practices, and methodologies to work with peers and counterpart teams

-Support customer facing initiatives to optimize business results

What will you gain from it?

It is our intention to provide the successful applicant with a short burst of the much needed ‘industry experience’ required between leaving university and starting full time employment as a professional. We want to provide you with a foot up onto the ‘first rung on the ladder’ in your chosen career as a design engineer. As such we have structured the scheme around the 4 core areas of working within our consultancy, these are:-

• Business Skills
• Design Skills
• CAD Skills (Solidworks Certification)
• Modelmaking & Workshop Skills

We regard the scheme as a knowledge exchange.

4c Design will provide our time and experience to mentor the Apprentice who keeps a diary of what they have achieved each week. In return they provide their time to 4c Design to help out with jobs where appropriate. As such we will make a contribution towards the apprentice’s living costs, but it should be regarded as an unsalaried position for the duration of the scheme.

Who should apply?

Graduates with a relevant degree in Design or Engineering (or both).

We are looking for a senior designer who can:

• Be a point of contact to our product designers and aid them in solving issues that may arise with projects during the design process.
• Design and build prototypes and test rigs of concepts
• Make cosmetic and functional models, prototype parts and assemblies of concepts using a combination of fabrication, machining, modelmaking techniques and painting and finishing
• Use workshop equipment to produce high quality prototype parts, assemblies and models
• Take an active, hands-on role to ensure that all engineering problems are resolved thoroughly.

Skills required:

• A degree in a relevant engineering or science discipline or equivalent
• Minimum 3 years of experience in product design or product engineering with practical knowledge of 3D CAD (ideally SolidWorks)
• Sound understanding and knowledge of general engineering, design, scientific physical principles and / or electronics
• Knowledge and understanding of plastic injection moulding and other manufacturing methods
• Proven ability to communicate through 2 and 3 dimensional media, e.g. sketching, CAD, model making
• Ability to use workshop equipment to produce high quality prototype parts, assemblies and models

Job Requirements:

• BS in Mechanical Engineering with FEA background preferred and 5 years or equivalent experience. Experience with product development desired.
• Utilizing Pro/Engineer Wildfire 3.0 / Windchill PDM system, create part and assembly drawings with functional tolerances, modeling, detailing, sheet metal, mechanisms, large assemblies, production drawings per ANSI Y14.5, GD&T.
