You may want to use html_entity_decode() on your duncanandmeg site, since it looks like you have encoded the html entities.

Thank you for your article. I don't know much about computers.
A salesman at Office Max in Loveland, CO recommended the VX-3000.
He said that he set his mothers computer up with it (and is using Skype). I had been searching to find out if microsoft intended for us to use Skype, or if it would work with just Live Messenger alone.
No one explained the relationship - if there was one.
I wish that there was "basic information for dummys" in the VX-3000 box so that I could understand how everything is supposed to work and what microsoft upgrades are required for it's use. Your article answered my question.
Thanks again.

Probably so, but lazy is as lazy does! I needed a good excuse to write awk one day, and this is the result. I think my "production version" does a few more fancy things now, but haven't used it for so long that I forget completely.

My background is in software development, not really hardware, and especially not barcode scanners. I can't really speak from experience with different scanners at all, we use the <a href="http://www.racoindustries.com/csapex2.htm" rel="nofollow">Compsee Apex II</a> at the library where I work. I don't know anything about how much it costs, how they actually transfer the scan data files from the scanner to the PC, or what the barcode scanner industry standard is really. :)

The manufacturer produces some software for manipulating the scan data more flexibly, I think, but I don't think we use it where I work.

Hope that helps. You'll probably need to look for websites about barcode scanners to definitively answer your question.

Do all barcode readers generate a text file? The reason I ask is that I would like to buy a cheap reader that I can parse using any programming langauge I wish.

However, most websites or stores do not state that you can generate a text file.
