There's a rare piece of Johnny Depp movie history hitting the auction block ... and the timing couldn't be better for the motorcycle he used in "Cry-Baby" to pull in 6-figures.

The bike is sick ... it's a 1955 Harley Davidson Model K ... and it's the same one used on-screen in Johnny's 1990 cult classic film.

The Harley is going up for sale through Kruse GWS Auctions and the opening bid is being set at $250,000 ... with potential buyers needing to bid in $25,000 increments if they want to win Johnny's movie ride.

If that sounds kinda steep, keep in mind the immense popularity wave Johnny's riding since winning the defamation case over Amber Heard. Fact is, all things Depp-related are commodities nowadays.

The auction house says the Harley was the "picture bike" used throughout filming in principal photography ... both on location in Maryland and also in Hollywood.

The bike's changed hands over the years, and is currently on display in a museum in Branson, Missouri following years of displays in different exhibits across the country.

Also included in the auction is Janis Joplin's mandolin, which she once gifted to Jimi Hendrix.

The instrument is hand-painted with flowers and phrases ... including "Love Thy Neighbor" and Jimi's name. The auction house says the mandolin's been in a private collection for 20 years and is on the market for the first time. They estimate that it will go for $250k.

The auction opens June 25.

Abducted Ebonyi government house photographer regains freedom after payment of N300,000 ransom

A photographer who works at Ebonyi State Government House in Abakaliki has been released after being abducted in Abia state.

Uchenna Nwube who was abducted along Okigwe/Uturu/Aba axis in Abia State on Wednesday night alongside his friend’s mother-in-law on their way back to Abakaliki from Aba, was released on Saturday June 11 after a N300,000 ransom was paid.

Prior to being released alongside his friend's mother-in-law, his abductors were asking for a N50 million ransom. A friend who spoke to Punch said;

“Yes. Mr Nwube has been released. We thank God. The kidnappers collected N300,000 for his release. He was released very early this (Saturday) morning. Right now, he is at the Awgu police station, in the Awgu local government area of Enugu State. Let’s give God thanks”

US judge dismisses rape lawsuit against Cristiano Ronaldo

A US judge has dismissed a rape allegation lawsuit against Cristiano Ronaldo because the accuser's lawyer relied on leaked and stolen records.

Kathryn Mayorga, who had a brief fling with the football star alleges he raped her at a Las Vegas hotel in 2009.

Ronaldo has not denied that the two met in Las Vegas in 2009, but said that what happened between them was consensual and not rape. He has never been charged.

Ronaldo had paid a woman $375,000 in a settlement in 2010, after she claimed he raped her in Las Vegas in 2009.

Mayorga said that while she had agreed to the settlement shortly after the alleged incident, her emotional trauma at the time did not allow her to participate in the agreement process, and she felt pressured to accept the offer. She then decided to go further with the lawsuit.

The lawsuit sought a further payout, which might have run into millions of dollars, but US District Judge Jennifer Dorsey kicked the case out of court on Friday June 10, over the way documents were obtained.

The judge said in her 42-page order that dismissing a case outright with no option to file it again is a severe sanction, but that Ronaldo had been harmed by the conduct of the Ms Mayorga's lawyer, Leslie Mark Stovall.

Judge Dorsey explained that Mr Stovall had used "misappropriated documents" which had been "woven into the very fabric" of the plaintiff's case, meaning it had to be permanently dismissed.

In her ruling she wrote: "I find that the procurement and continued use of these documents was bad faith".

"Simply disqualifying Stovall will not cure the prejudice to Ronaldo because the misappropriated documents and their confidential contents have been woven into the very fabric of [the plaintiff's] claims.

"Harsh sanctions are merited," the ruling stated.

In a statement released in October 2018, Ronaldo said: "I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me. Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in."

His legal team has stated that the sexual encounter was consensual and that a confidentiality agreement prevents both his team and the woman from talking about it.

The woman's legal team could appeal against the decision.

A little boy who was branded a witch and abandoned on the streets has been rescued in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

Danish aid worker, Anja Ringgren Lovén, said the boy was picked up by a woman from the State Ministry of Justice.

An Optician, Benjamin Omin Itu, who also confirmed the development on Saturday, June 11, shared photos of the boy with deep wounds all over his body.

"The abandoned child who was branded witch has been rescued. We fight against child abandonment because it's a crime." he said.

Nigeria's President, Muhammadu Buhari has stated that this year’s Democracy Day speech will be his last as President of Nigeria.

Buhari stated that by this time next year, Nigeria would have a new leader
so it is his duty to ensure the emergence of a new president through a transparent and peaceful process.

In his address on Sunday morning, June 12, to mark this year’s Democracy Day, President Buhari said;

Fellow Nigerians, Today, June the 12th, marks another Democracy Day anniversary and an occasion to celebrate freedom and unity of our nation.

From 1999, we consistently celebrated Democracy Day to mark the end of military rule and the return of power and control into the hands of those freely elected by the people. On this day, Nigerians recommit themselves to ensuring we protect and preserve the ideals of democracy.

In 2018, we moved Democracy Day from 29th of May to the 12th of June. This change was to remind all Nigerians of one free election after which the presumed winner along with Nigerians were denied their rights and their choice.

On June 12th 1993, Nigerians saw the best in our citizens as we all went out to vote peacefully. By June 24th 1993, we also saw the worst of our leadership as the elections were annulled.

We must never forget the sacrifices of the heroes of Nigeria’s democracy during 1993. Their patriotism and peaceful struggle should guide our actions especially when it comes to electing our leaders and holding them accountable, now and in future.

Fellow Nigerians this is my last Democracy Day speech as your President. By June 12th, 2023, exactly one year from today, you will already have a new President. I remain committed and determined to ensure that the new President is elected through a peaceful and transparent process.

It is important for all of us to remember that June 12th, 2023 will be exactly 30 years from the 1993 Presidential elections. In honour and memory of one of our national heroes for democracy, Chief M.K.O Abiola, GCFR, we must all work together to ensure this transition is done in a peaceful manner.

I am hopeful that we can achieve this. The signs so far are positive. Recently, all registered political parties conducted primaries to select their candidates for the 2023 general elections.

These primaries were peaceful and orderly. Those who won were magnanimous in their victories. Those who lost were gracious in defeat. And those aggrieved opted to seek judicial justice as opposed to jungle justice.

I followed the party primaries closely from the state level to the presidential level. I was very impressed to see across all the political parties that, most candidates ran issued based campaigns. The language and tone throughout were on the whole measured and controlled.

Another positive that came from the 2022 party primaries was the significant increase in women and youth particularly across all parties. I was very pleased to see this development. This augurs well for the future. These trends clearly show the level of maturity our democracy has achieved in the last 23 years.

As we move into the general election campaign season, we must sustain this mature attitude to campaigning and ultimately, voting. We must never see it as a “do or die” affair. We must all remember democracy is about the will of the majority. There must be winners and losers.

I will therefore take this opportunity on this very special day to ask all candidates to continue running issue focused campaigns and to treat opponents with dignity. As leaders, you must all showcase high character and never forget that the world is watching us and Africa looks up to Nigeria to provide example in governance. The tone you set at the top will surely be replicated in your followers.

For the voters, I am pleased to inform you that in the last 7 years, our government across all tiers, has made significant investments to reform and enhance our electoral laws, systems, and processes to safeguard your votes.

The Executive, Legislature and Judiciary were and still remain united and committed to ensure these reforms are fully implemented in the 2023 general elections. Fellow Nigerians, your right to choose your government will be preserved and protected.

I know many of us are concerned with the rise in insecurity due to terrorist activities in parts of the country. As a government, we are working hard to contain and address these challenges. And ensure that the 2023 general elections are safe and secure for all Nigerians.

To achieve this however, we must all contribute. It is not the job of government alone. I ask all citizens to support and cooperate with our security agencies by reporting any suspicious characters and activities to law enforcement agencies. We can only have a safe country if we are able to prevent crime not after the crime has been committed.

On this special day, I want us all to put all victims of terrorist activities in our thoughts and prayers. I am living daily with the grief and worry for all those victims and prisoners of terrorism and kidnapping. I and the security agencies are doing all we can to free those unfortunate countrymen and countrywomen safely.

For those who have lost their lives, we will continue to seek justice for their families against the perpetrators. For those currently in captivity, we will not stop until they are freed, and their kidnappers are brought to justice. If we all unite, we will be victorious against these agents of terror and destruction.

We have reformed some of our security structures. Some of the defence assets we procured three years ago have arrived and have been deployed.

Our cyber security and surveillance systems are being upgraded to further enhance our ability to track and trace criminal elements. We are also recruiting and training new personnel across all our security and intelligence agencies to strengthen the country’s over-all security.

I will conclude this Democracy Day speech, my last as President, by assuring you of my commitment to protect Nigeria and Nigerians from all enemies from within and outside.

I am also promising you a free, fair and transparent electoral process. And I am pleading with all citizens to come together and work with Government to build a peaceful and prosperous nation.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria

One killed, others injured as APC and SDP supporters clash in Ekiti

A clash between supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) and the opposition Social Democratic Party in Itaji-Ekiti, Oye Council Area of Ekiti State has led to the death of one person.

The clash which led to the death of a member of the APC, Tope Ajayi, and also left many others injured, occurred on Saturday June 11 during a campaign ahead of next Saturday’s governorship poll.

The Nation reported that those who sustained injuries during the fracas are being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti.

Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu confirmed incident, saying;

“Yes , there was a clash at Itaji between opposition parties members and that investigation to unravel what transpired and the number of casualties as well as the possible arrest of culprits have commenced."

Abutu said the police, had however, quelled the bedlam and restored normalcy to the beleaguered town.

He added;

“But on the killing of a person, we are yet to get that confirmation. As soon as that is done, I will update the press”

Narrating APC's account of what happened, Director, Media and Publicity, Biodun Oyebanji Campaign Organisation, Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun said that party's campaign in Ekiti North senatorial district was orderly and peaceful earlier until it was allegedly disrupted by hoodlums on the instruction of a former House of Representatives member.

He alleged that those affected were allegedly shot by the SDP thug who swooped on a faulty campaign vehicle branded with the APC candidate, Biodun Oyebanji’s posters between Itaji Ekiti.

According to him, the hoodlums besides shooting the dead member in the chest, also allegedly rained bullets on a vehicle belonging to the Special Adviser on Road Infrastructures to the Governor, Hon Rufus Adunmo.

Olatunbosun said;

“It is tragic that within one week of Daramola decamping to the SDP, we have recorded a spate of violence including an attack on our campaign rally at Oke Ayedun on Friday, and now the brutal killing of our member today, and the maiming of many others who are now battling for their lives in the hospital.”

Countering Olatunbosun’s claim, the Director of Media and Publicity, Segun Oni Campaign Organisation, Jackson Adebayo said;

“We were at the palace at Itaji Ekiti where Asiwaju Segun Oni was meeting with obas in the local government area. some people were outside the palace, suddenly we saw about five buses loaded with transporters who are being used as political thugs associated with Governor Fayemi and the APC.
“They started shooting sporadically. we initially thought they were shooting to scare us away, people were running helter skelter without knowing that they really targeted our members to kill.
“They were also trying to force their way to where Engineer Segun oni was may be in an attempt to assassinate him. That was when they were repelled by security agencies who came to the rescue and repelled them.
“But unfortunately, one of the thugs missed their vehicle because he fell down. We interrogated him and he said they were agents of APC. They left, we learnt one of them died later, but I would not know how”.

Following the trend of stealing panties across Nigeria, the Nigerian police has announced that panties thieves will now be charged with attempted murder.

Zonal Police PRO, Dolapo Badmus who disclosed this via Instagram, disclosed that those caught in the act confessed to using the panties for rituals. According to some of the apprehended panties thieves, the owners of the stolen underwear end up dying prematurely.

At 25 Haruna Yusuf Abba is believed to be youngest politician vying for an elective position in Nigeria. He is contesting for a seat at the Plateau state House of Assembly to represent Jos North/North constituency under the platform of Democratic Alternative (DA). In this interview with Plateau Benue Chronicle, the 25-year old Jos-born politician speaks on what attracted him into politics, the challenges he has been facing and how, if given the mandate, he will improve the living conditions of his constituency. Excerpts:

Could you tell us your background?

Haruna Yusuf: I am Haruna Yusuf Abba, I am 25 years old. I was born in Anguwar Rogo of Jos North local government area of Plateau state. I graduated from Federal Polytechnic Bauchi from the Department of Public Administration, and now a 300 level student of Political Science of University of Jos. I am now vying for the seat in Plateau State House of Assembly to represent Jos North/North Constituency under the Democratic Alternative (DA) in the upcoming 2019 general election.

What motivated you to venture into politics?

I ventured into politics because the members representing us haven’t done anything to improve the conditions of people in my constituency. Now I came with a slogan tagged ‘Reformation 2019’.

What challenges is your constituency facing and how do you intend to tackle them if you are voted?

One of the clogs to the wheels of development in my constituency is the lack of adequate and proper representation. My constituency has been battling with bad primary healthcare delivery, poor education as public schools are in bad shape. There is lack of socio economic development, youth and women empowerment and the absence of youth participation in governance. My constituency doesn’t have potable water.

So, I realized that I have what it takes to remedy most, if not all of these anomalies. An executive function most of it are, but with a vibrant and egalitarian representation, projects that would remedy most of these problems can be brought to our constituency via lobbying.

Moreso, each representative has a certain amount set aside for constituency projects. I would make sure this fund is adequately and properly utilized by channeling it to projects that would meet up the immediate needs of my constituency and you know every community in my constituency has its own peculiar problems, which require peculiar response.

I would also carry out a survey to identify the immediate needs of the communities, it would be carried out on a community to community basis and the identified needs would be addressed.

Some of the needs that can be funded by the amount set aside for constituency projects would be addressed directly by me and for those that cannot be taken care of by the constituency project allowance, the powerful instrument of lobbying would be employed and projects that would solve the problems would be brought to the communities.

Your constituency is one of the largest in the state, what are your plans to utilize its human resources?

Yes, my constituency is blessed with a pile of human resources that have remained untapped. I would harness the availability of the human resources via the empowerment programmes that would be brought forth most of which would focus on strengthening the entrepreneurial skills of the constituents.

Do you think if elected you would be able to achieve all that?

It is not rocket science, it has been done, as we have seen it done in other constituencies that have been fortunate to have good and egalitarian representatives. My drive and vision towards being a representative is to see and ensure a prosperous Jos North/North constituency in which there is mutual trust, where employment and development opportunities exist for all irrespective of creed, religion or background.

How would you be different from those legislators before you if elected?

Yes, if given the mandate I would be accessible to all and sundry as my constituency offices would be open and active to receive complaints, suggestions, and information from the constituents. Such information, complaints and suggestions would be addressed.

Do you have the capacity to do what all that you have promised if given the mandate?

I know I can’t do it alone, but together we can. A greater, peaceful and prosperous Jos North/North we are all craving for.

Do you have enough finances to compete with other candidates?

I don’t have the financial muscles, but I have ideas and I have reached out to people and told them about my vision and mission.

What was the peoples’ reaction after you have reached out to them?

They were very happy and ready to support me, it may interest you to know most of my sponsors are the constituents who are willing to do so, and they have given me many campaign materials free.

Who are the people that you have reached out to so far?

I met with various stakeholders, including youth organizations, religious clerics and women. I told them politics wasn’t about money and told them I would do my best and make sure I did all the required and necessary as far as election is concerned.

It is being said that you are the youngest house of assembly candidate in Plateau state, did you know that?

I am not only the youngest house of assembly candidate in Plateau state, but in Nigeria.

How did you know about that?

I am a member of Not-too-young-to-run group, and I was in Abuja last week, they told me I am the youngest candidate vying for the seat of a house of assembly in Nigeria.
