Weeding My Mental Garden

This is the year of opportunity for all of us. For myself, I’m choosing to make a quantum leap in consciousness. I have laid the groundwork for a quantum jump for some time now. A significant leap of transformation is available based on a firm foundation of the fundamentals. I have been on the path of positive change for more than 35 years now. Yet I have noticed that weeds still crop up in my mental garden.

These are little petty indignations, irritations, worry, fear, criticisms and even judgments that have not been fully uprooted. True, I stop them quite quickly when they arise. But I find that their roots are hidden from plain view yet deeply entrenched in my mental soil. They are like little insidious habits of thought that recycle periodically. They seem to catch me unaware from behind and then I become the effect of the emotion it creates.

I have chosen this year to be a year of conscious intention and choice. I am choosing to weed the garden of my mind again! This time my intention is to eradicate the roots of any negative thinking.

I know it’s a mighty intention and will require a a huge leap in self-awareness. I will need to be a sentinel – standing guard at the gate of my own consciousness, observing my every thought as I am thinking it.

In my book, The Operator’s Manual for Planet Earth -An Adventure for the Soul- the biggest challenge the young protagonists face is how to stay conscious on Earth. They would vow to remain aware and conscious yet every time they entered Earth’s Atmosphere in a physical body their light would dim. They would forget to remember their vow.

Now I feel like the protagonist in my own book – choosing to remember to remember to stay awake. It’s a challenge, but I’m excited about it.

Now I’m not saying that I’ve stopped having fun. I’m still enjoying life, swimming, going to movies, getting together with friends – playing as well as working. The difference is that I’m now want to uproot all of the lower negative thoughts that float in and take control of my mind and my emotions periodically .

So far, I’ve forgotten to remember at least 13 times since commitment day on January 1st. I caught the slippery thoughts quickly, stopping them before they turned into an emotion. But I am resolute, inspired and committed to the game!

So here is my 30 day game plan:

Ten minutes of meditation in the morning – I’ve shortened it a bit for expediency sake.
Two minute visualization and positive mental activation daily.
Stay alert and aware to my thoughts and emotions during the day.
Two minute reflection in the evening in which I review, renew, rewrite and re-envision any event or thought that caught me unaware and in a negative frame of mind.

I’ll be reporting periodically on how I’m doing. BTW – I would love to have you join me and we’ll rock the world one person and one thought at a time!

Front Line Report: Stop Bullying Now!

For those of you who know my work, you are probably aware that I work in the corporate sector. Many years ago the parents in these organizations began asking me to train their children.

As a result, my business partner, Lynne Truair and I formed a non-profit company called World Youth Network International (WYN).

I wrote an extensive curriculum for K-12 on balancing intellectual, emotional and social competencies.

Today, this prevention program as well as our intervention programs are in over 500 schools internationally. Our intervention anti-bullying program is titled Breaking Out of the World Game.

This report came from Louise MacKay, a principal at St. Luke’s in Melbourne, AU. She and principal, John Faulkner, are certified trainers for the program in Melbourne.

‘I just felt that I had to share it with you…”This is the display I organized for our curriculum expo. The year 5/6 children asked that Breaking Out of the World Game be displayed because it is very important for the younger children to learn it.The photos were all taken during St. Luke’s Program. John and I start the Year 3/4 program on Monday at St Luke’s and Thursday at John’s school followed by a parent information afternoon for them.Just to let you know that we are still spreading the good news!!!’

Shift This Moment & the Next Will Follow

Whenever I talk about the One Minute Meditation (see video here) people ask me to teach it. I was in Adelaide about seven weeks ago and I had approximately 100 people in the room. I happened to mention that I use the One Minute Meditation when I’m feeling stressed or I’m not on my game and it was a room stopper. The entire group responded affirmatively when I asked if they wanted to learn it.

It was pretty amazing. The room was in an active state and within one minute of ‘breath in – be still, breath out – let go’ the entire energetic field shifted. The feeling was palpable from high energy moving in all directions to a sense of stillness, presence and focus.

I have since received a tremendous amount of feedback from these and others who are using the One Minute Meditation. Here’s what one person communicated…

“When I feel stressed or I’m beginning to feel edgy, I turn my attention inward for a moment, take a deep breath, and say the words you taught us – ‘be still, let go’. It’s amazing how quickly I can still my mind, reconnect with myself and shift into present time. Thanks for that. I would recommend it to everyone in these stressful times!”

So with all of this feedback and after much consideration, I have decided to share a few more of these short one or two minute meditations. These are One Minute Meditations that I use and they come from my private tool chest. Each fulfills a different purpose, but they will all strengthen your mental focus, enhance the energy of the heart and amp up the power of your intention.

Just as we are learning to do core training for the body, these short meditations are like core training for the heart and soul. Each meditation will help you shift your awareness, energize your presence in the moment and change all the moments that follow.
