1. Try weightwatchers, they have a mens program, even if you don't do it forever, it will help you drop some weight

2. The smoking is harder, the only way I was able to quit was cold turkey. I started at 15 stopped at 18 cold turkey, started again a bit more than a year and a half ago (my oldest was with his bio-dad really hit me hard) and I stopped cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant with the baby.

3. A hobby, if it's online, then really focus on it, start joining forums, participate in online projects, etc.

Remember, you rock!

Way to go! I've missed your posts.. there is always time for a do-over and a shape up. Sounds like you hit a slump but at least you realized.

Try to get some fresh air and dive into a few tasks to make yourself feel better.

Your kids will always love you no matter how much you weigh or if you smoke, but you can love them back a lot longer if you take good care of yourself. Plus you'll have better memories together if you're smiling..

Chin up buddy and be nice to your wife HA HA

I have a few things to say, so here goes.

First off, kudos to you for writing such a post. It is very personal, and you are giving complete strangers a glimpse into not only your life but your heart.

Second, I'm all about support. I've never struggled with weight or food, but I was a smoker, and any addiction, no matter what it is, is hard to beat. But my question to you is: In the end, even if you have support from family, friends, and countless well-meaning bloggers/web surfers, will it matter? Will you achieve your goals based solely on the good will of others? I think you know this, but the determining force comes from within you, and though encouragement from others is certainly an asset, it won't do a damn bit of good unless you reach down inside you and find the strength to achieve your goals.

You not only have to change the way you live your life (e.g., quitting smoking, changing your eating habits), but you need to change the way you think, and that can be the most difficult task of all. It's easier to be negative sometimes than positive. I'm not quite sure wnhy, but it feel s so gratifying to complainabout just about anything.

For sure it'll be a long hard road for you. If you want support, you have it from me at least. I've been there at rock bottom, and I know how hard it is to take a good look inside yourself and truly discover who you are. Trust me, it isn't pretty, but you will be a happier and healthier person if you do decide to make these changes. If you need inspiration, just look at your beautiful wife and your two gorgeous sons. Good luck!

Hi Mark! I am an online acquaintence (sp!?) of Lynda back from her days in BBB :) She posted the link to your blog on her livejournal and I wanted to check it out. I think it's fantastic that you are keeping this log - not only for yourselves, but just think of how fun it will be for the boys to read it one day when they're older! Kids LOVE to hear stories about themselves! Keep it up, and congrats on staying home with your beautiful boys!
