Google Updated Page Ranks - DagitabLog Got PR3!

The last update of the nominal Google PageRank happened about 3 months ago in September 2008. Also at that time, I just started DagitabLog. It has been a long wait before I saw my blog having a PageRank.

Google was very early in releasing the new numbers and I'm very happy with the results. From nothing to a PR of 3 - that is something to boast about!

Since this is my first time of getting a PageRank, I'm really excited of the changes that will happen over the next weeks or months. Or will there be any change at all? Hopefully, yes!

DagitabLog is Changing Theme

I am changing the way DagitaBlog looks. I decided to use a magazine style theme designed by Michael Jubel Hutagalung of ColorLabsProject called Arthemia. The original design was for Wordpress and converted to Blogger by Wordpress To Blogger.

I'm changing the theme because the previous design (Langit Theme) was not really good at SEO and Adsense optimization. Actually, I have started looking for a new theme a month ago and Arthemia was just one in my list. Other templates which catched my eye were Rebel Magazine Theme, Maggo Magazine Theme and SlickPress Theme. I chose Arthemia because I was really charmed on how it made the headline and featured posts. And there is an available converted theme for Blogger too.

This themes' features include:

Two/Three columns (depends on your customization)
Professional design with magazine style
Built-in search box
Nice drop down navigation menu
Three footer widgets
Banner ad ready (468×60)
Google Adsense ready (300×250 rectangle, 120×600 sidebar)

The customization is not yet finished and probably you already noticed several glitches and bugs. DagitabLog will become up and running good in no time.

Himatsubushi : Kill Time

Try this game of Himatsubushi, which literally translates to "kill time" or "crush boredom" in Japanese.

This is a fun and weird flash game where your main objective is to keep your mouse pointer safe as long as possible from a little orange ninja guy who will try to grab or hit your cursor with lots of tricks you will never thought or expect. I say he is a cursor addict or cursor maniac! The game also requires you not to move your mouse outside the game's background or else your score will reset to zero.

This is not easy as you might think because the ninja guy will always get you and will give you a big grin every time he captures or destroys your cursor. Just a warning: don't get irritated to him because if you do, you will really smash your monitor screen!

For info, my highest score is 2325 points. How about you? How long can your mouse pointer can survive? Play now and post your score!

Know Your Internet Speed With Speedtest.net

Want to know your real-world internet connection speed as compared to what your provider advertised to you? Here is one cool tool to do it. Speedtest.net is a free, simple and straight-forward web tool to check your internet connection speed. It has scattered several hundreds of testing servers around the world to analyze global internet performance.

In starting a test, Speedtest.net initially recommends the geographically-closest server from you to test your connection. Once you chose the server, it automatically test how fast the Download (the speed of data from the server to your computer) and Upload (the speed of sending data from your computer to the server) that your connection is capable of reaching. The tests are performed completely within your web browser over HTTP (just like normal web browsing).

After the test, your speed test result is shown where your download and upload speeds are indicated as kb/s (kilo bits per second or kbps). You will also be able to share your results through the links provided for blogs, forums or a direct link. The link directs to the .png image of your unique test result. Here's what I got:

The good thing about the results page is that you can rate your ISP. It's like another way of saying your happy or not happy with your internet performance. From this rating and the ratings of other people of the same provider, the ISP's rank is determined locally or globally based on user feedback.

You can also browse test results from around the globe and compare what your internet service provider actually gives you against other ISPs available in your area. You can check which ISP ranks BEST in your location. For those who's interested in global statistics, you can analyze broadband speeds around the world.

Another brilliant thing about Speedtest.net is that every test you make, the result is stored by Speedtest.net. Every test is not gone into waste. You can view your past results summarized in your fastest download/upload, average download/upload, number of test taken, your ISP and your IP address.

You will also have an idea of what your internet connection's country and global ranks are. Moreover, you will also see your ISP's average speed, your country's average speed, global average speed and more! There is a lot of information to see if you are interested in it.

This is probably the most accurate internet speed checker I've seen. They have a really cool interface too. Want to try it? Just tick the logo at the left.

KeyBored - Make Your Computer Keyboard into a Musical Instrument

Alex Foran has made a java program which literally translates your computer keyboard into a musical instrument. You can make your keyboard into a grand piano, as if you are just hitting piano keys. Or try to strum your keyboard like an electric guitar and jam with it. Or if you want some windy sound, try making your keyboard into a flute. Or if you want to compose your own keyboard orchestra, then be it!

His program is called KeyBored which transforms every letter and number you type into a musical note.

Each row on a QWERTY keyboard is an octave, with Z being lowest and the number row highest. Holding shift makes the note sharp.

The current version of the program is version 2.0 which is only 297kB. It's a very small program which can give you some enjoyment with your keyboard on boring times. Maybe you can compose a song as you type a word document, make an email or just by making a chat.

Handy Tip

What is dNeero?
dNeero is a social network website which develops social surveys where people like you get paid to take and post answers to your blog and/or social network profiles.

ICONlook.com is a simple and neat icon search engine. The site is still in BETA but it already has tons of cool and beautiful icons ready for download and use. If you are looking for icons to personalize your system or want to make some glare in your website with astonishing images and thumbnails, this is the site to look at. Be it a computer icon, system tools icons, applications icon, RSS buttons, or anything else, you can find it!

Personally, what I like about this site is the quality of its icons. Almost every icon is beautifully made and with a Web2.0 look, and you can download it for FREE (both the .ico file and the accompanying .png file). You can search by a keyword and image size. Depending on the icon, the available image sizes are 12x12, 16x16, 22x22, 32x32, 48x48, 64x64 and 128x128.

Microsoft's 7th OS is "Windows 7"

Microsoft has unveiled the official name of the next version of its Windows operating system. Yep, the code name of the 7th release of Windows is Windows 7. Simplicity is the keyword for it, unlike its predecessors Windows Vista and Windows XP with aspirational names.

Just for a review of the NT versions of the original Windows line:

1st: Windows NT 3.1

2nd: Windows NT 3.5

3rd: Windows NT 4.0

4th: Windows 2000 (5.0)

5th: Windows XP (5.1)

6th: Windows Vista (6.0)

And finally 7th: Windows 7 (Windows 7 is the 7th major version in the desktop NT line)

But I smell Windows 7 is just Windows Vista with a Service Pack.

An Interesting Human Clock

Billy Chasen has created an interesting flash-based human clock using human formations of the numbers 0-9 from Stupid Random and Hilarious. Very neat and nicely done! You can check it out at his official website here.

And to make thing more interesting, I made a few comments on the images used in the clock. I also made a glossy feel on the images using a little tool from reflectionmaker.com. So here is the show of the numbers 0 to 9.

Zero: Is the shoot done? I think I broke my back.

One: Stand still, look on your right and smile, a hard task to do.

Two: Where is the string?

Three: Look, she's doing crunches.

Four: Want to sit somewhere else?

Five: Doesn't that feel heavy?

The Coolest Image Search Tool

Today, I am going to share with you an interesting web tool which searches Flickr images in terms of visual similarity. The most common way we know how to search an image is using a keyword like how Google Image Search works. But there is another brilliant way of doing it. Idée's Multicolr Search Lab, has created a visual search method using visual attributes such as color, shape and texture. It sounds too geeky but this is so far the coolest and most grandeur image search tool that I have ever seen. It's an amazing application with amazing results!

So how does this Multicolr works?

By choosing up to ten colors, Multicolr will extract those colors from about 10 million most interesting Creative Commons images on Flickr. Using Idée's visual search technology, Multicolr will give you the images of your chosen colors.

Here is a screenshot of how to do an image search.

On the upper right of the screen, you can choose the color you want to search for. I chose the shades of red and green. The images will automatically update and show interesting images of red and green. Oh my, the results were a bunch of flowers as what I guessed. You can also click on individual images to see a bigger view of it.

mana pool. Duration of the buff is 5/6/7/8

If the target runs out of mana, the effect stops and the target is stunned
for 1.25/1.5/1.75/2 seconds.

The movement bonus is now given in an area around the tracked unit to all

Blue and Pink are the team captains. A random side starts the process(you
can customize this, see below)

You start by alternating 1/1/1 in the ban phase. Each captain removes up to
4 heroes. Running out of time does not result in a random hero ban.

After that you enter the 1/2/2/ pick phase. Each captain picks the heroes
his team will use.

If at any time you run out of time, you start to use up your extra time. If
you run out and you are in pick phase, you get a random hero.

Creeps spawn 90 seconds after the pick draft phase is over. Right after the
hero pick phase ends, the 5 heroes for your team are presented with a
checkmark on them (RD style) allowing players on your team to pick which one
they want to be.

The captain that starts this process is random. If you want to give the
starting to Sentinel, type -cm 1 or -cm 2 for Scourge after the game mode is
entered.

The picks, bans, timers, etc are all presented in a board for easy viewing
by team mates and observers.

Wario, Nintendo's greedy, uncouth and rude anti-hero, returns to his roots. The Wario Land series is where Wario first appeared, and it's back with all the jumping, power-dashing and butt-stomping plus an addition of tons of shaking madness! This new game is playable in Wii and by shaking the Wii Remote, you can shake down your enemies and loot treasure bags for free coins, and even cause earthquakes.

A video of this game in Youtube shook everything in the site's layout. Everything went in rampage. I provided a screen shot but I don't think it's enough. You have to view and experience the shaking in this 45-second video. It's marketing at its best!

Nintendo Announces DSi Gaming Console

Japanese gaming giant Nintendo has unveiled its newest portable video gaming console, the DSi, equipped with a larger 3.24-inch LCD screen and a slimmer look compared to its predecessor. The DSi can now be used to take photos with its two 0.3-Megapixel cameras. It is also features an SD card slot where gamers can plug and play their favorite music.

The full specs of DSi includes:

12%, 2.6 millimeter lighter
17% bigger LCD screens (3.24inches)
Two 0.3-Megapixel cameras
Dual touch screen
Has one SD card slot
Internal memory built-in for applications

Cligs: TinyURL Plus Analytics

I was twittering two days ago, following the followed, and I found this URL shortening service along the way. It's called Cligs. According to its website, its name happen to came from the word clicks with a g (as in go) pronounced at the end. I see it as a creative term actually, and it really caught my attention because of its similarity to tinyURL but with one BIG difference - free analytics.

Cligs is a very useful tool in converting your long URLs into short ones - very much needed when space is a hot resource! It's best to use in your twitter link updates, email and blog links, and even hiding your affiliate links. On top of these, Cligs can give you a detailed traffic analysis and information about your created short URLs like

I'm expecting this payment from dNeero today. This morning, I got $19.94 in my account - product of four months of being a dNeero-ite. I only need just a few more cents until I reach the payout.

And fortunately, I have one discussion waiting to get approved for its fifth day of getting impressions in my blog. It's not a problem because my blog already got a decent number of visitors everyday. I will earn $0.35 with this one today!

Google Project 10^100 Calls for Ideas

Google is turning 10! And to mark its coming birthday, Google launched Project 10^100 (pronounced "Project 10 to the 100th"), a call for ideas to change the world by helping as many people as possible (See video)

If you have a great Project 10^100 idea and you believe it can help the world, you can submit it by filling out this submission form. You can also supplement your proposal with 1 YouTube video (max 30 seconds) explaining your project.

A selection of 100 ideas will be posted by January 27 where the public votes for twenty semi-finalist. Then an advisory board will select up to five final ideas. Google will bring these ideas to life by committing $10,000,000 to implement these projects.

The deadline of submisssion is by October 20, 2008.

If you are wondering about the project's name, it's a numerical way of expressing the number googol, a one followed by one hundred zeroes, where Google happened to get its name.
