BONUS DAY: Mercury Insurance billboards...

Daily Billboard thinks that Mercury Insurance's current ad campaign is simple and effective.

The billboards stand out not only because of the bright egg yolk colour, but also due to the use of some clever copy.

Daily Billboard especially likes the sentiment of the 'Get a great agent. Not a great telemarketer' creative, but wonders in this age of overseas call centers and scripted, standard answers, if the service actually lives up to the promise.

Regardless, the ads do a great job of the communicating the savings you'll apparently enjoy if you opt for Mercury Insurance Group.

These insurance billboards were snapped along 3rd Street, Wilshire Boulevard, Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard in L.A. on January 12 through January 16, 2012.

Katherine Heigel is back on the big screen and this time she's not blonde, and even more surprisingly she's a bail-bond bounty hunter.

In this action comedy, the former Grey's Anatomy actress brings 'Stephanie Plum' to life, the star of Janet Evanovich's 1994 best-selling book of the same name, One for the Money.

These colourful movie billboards were snapped along Beverly Boulevard on January 10 and La Brea Avenue on January 17, 2012.

Given her box office history, maybe she'll handcuff the audience to their seats to get them to watch.

January is obviously the season for billboards where movie stars stare out at you intently. Earlier this week it was Denzel Washington for Safe House and today it's Liam Neeson for his new survival thriller, The Grey.

It always makes Daily Billboard wonder if there's anything more interesting about the film they could be conveying, aside from the lead actor's handsome face.

For instance this movie is about an oil drilling team whose plane crash lands in Alaska and have to survive when they are hunted by a pack of wolves. Did you get that from this advert, even with the 'Live or die on this day' tagline?

TRIO DAY: Journey 2 The Mysterious Island movie billboards...

Daily Billboard is loving these colourful and fantastical billboards for Journey 2 The Mysterious Island around L.A. this month.

There's nothing like people flying on the backs of giant bumble bees or running from prehistoric lizards to catch your attention, or your imagination.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Vanessa Hudgens and Michael Caine join Josh Hutcherson in this sequel to 2008's Journey to the Center of the Earth.

These fun, adventurous billboard ads certainly live up to the theme of an island filled with mystery, let's hope the movie doesn't disappoint either.

Literally all over Los Angeles at the moment, these fantastic movie billboards were snapped along Wilshire Boulevard, Melrose Avenue, Beverly Boulevard, Highland Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard on January 13, 2012.

BONUS DAY: GNC Your Solution Headquarters billboards...

GNC are back to ensure a healthy start to the New Year with a refreshed ad campaign.

These new billboards are more overtly sporty, with gym gear, people stretching, sweating and holding skipping ropes, plus this time they come in colour too.

The billboards still feature fit, young male and female models and all share the 'Live Healthy' slogan, presumably for the diet conscious in the New Year, with the addition of the 'Your Solution Headquarters' tagline.

It's a great campaign as there's not a vitamin or supplement bottle in sight, or an explicit mention of the General Nutrition Center, and yet you still get the health message loud and clear.

If you like these ads, take a look at GNC's Live Well campaign in mono from 2011.

The giant double Live Fit Live Healthy billboards were snapped along Sunset Boulevard at the top of La Cienega Boulevard, whilst the other vibrant creatives were photographed at The Beverly Center, along Hollywood Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue at the beginning of January 2012.

Denzel Washington Safe House movie billboards...

They say the eyes are the window to the soul and in these billboards for his new action thriller, Safe House, Denzel Washington is certainly channeling his inner badass.

In the movie Ryan Reynolds' CIA Agent is tasked with guarding Denzel's fugitive character at a Safe House, but when its location is compromised and attacked, he must go on the run with his criminal 'house guest'.

Here's some posters for the film featuring both the actors, snapped along Highland Avenue on January 17.

The mono billboard creative is certainly striking, especially with the evocative 'No one is safe' tagline and the film title in a splash of red.

The standard size billboard was snapped along Sunset Boulevard on January 14, whilst the smaller version was captured along Beverly Boulevard on an overcast January 16, 2012.

TV WEEK: Dustin Hoffman Luck billboards...

Today is Daily Billboard's lucky day, not only does it mark our second anniversary, but we also get to enjoy two billboard formats for Dustin Hoffman's new HBO drama, 'Luck'.

In this new horse racing series, The Graduate and Tootsie star follows in the footsteps of other big movie stars who've made the transition from the big screen to television, like Glenn Close in Damages, Danny DeVito in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Kiefer Sutherland in 24.

The standard size billboard ad first appeared along Fairfax Avenue near Melrose Avenue on a gloomy December 19, 2011 and subsequently graced La Brea Avenue on January 9, 2012. The giant-sized billboard for Luck was snapped along Sunset Boulevard on January 5, 2012.

TV WEEK: Spartacus Vengeance billboards...

Even though it's a pleasure to see these fantastic billboards for Spartacus: Vengeance around the streets of L.A., there's a certain sadness knowing that Liam McIntyre will be filling the loincloth of the slave-turned-champion-gladiator played by Andy Whitfield, who tragically passed away of cancer aged 39.

Be sure to check out the hunky original actor in the billboard for Starz Spartacus: Blood and Sand series.

Fortunately it looks like the new actor has the muscle, sweat and sex appeal to be a worthy replacement in this blood-soaked and sensual Roman era epic.

The giant billboard for the new series was snapped towering over Sunset & Vine in Hollywood on January 2.

The two other landscape billboard formats showing more of the bloody battle in the background were photographed along Sunset Boulevard and Highland Avenue on January 17, 2012.

Daily Billboard loves this campaign for NBC's highly anticipated musical drama 'Smash', it certainly has that showbiz razzmatazz.

No doubt following the popularity of Fox's singing sensation glee, NBC is surely hoping for a 'smash' hit with its new Broadway inspired show, which will see American Idol's Katherine McPhee and Broadway's Megan Hilty compete for the lead role in a Marilyn Monroe musical.

The new show also boasts stars from the big and small screen to bolster the cast, like Anjelica Houston, Debra Messing and Jack Davenport.

The giant-sized billboard for Smash was snapped on the side of the former NBC Studios in Burbank on December 30, 2011, whilst another large format was spied atop the Hollywood & Highland Center on January 17, 2012.

The special extension billboard, with Katherine McPhee's head popping over the top of the ad, was captured along Sunset Boulevard at Crescent Heights Boulevard on January 13, 2012.

Abby Lee Miller is one tough nut and isn't afraid to boss around her students or their parents in Dance Moms, which returns for a second spectacular season.

This ad says it all about the dance instructor's teaching methods, she really has perfected that 'don't mess with me' look. Daily Billboard also likes how the girls and their mothers are cleverly posing in the shape of a dance trophy in the background.

David Duchovny returns for a fifth season of drink, drugs and women as 'Hank Moody' in Californication.

After spending some time in New York City, the infamous writer is returning to L.A. to pen a new movie starring rapper/actor 'Samurai Apocalypse' (and to no doubt indulge his many vices), hence the blinged up 'Notorious Hank' billboard.

For all you Californication fans out there, here's a bonus season three billboard when he became a college professor, snapped along Sunset Boulevard on November 17, 2009.

Even though modern day 'U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens' may be up to his neck in trouble in Kentucky with criminals, treacherous mobsters and dirty politicians, it looks like he's going to be handling it in a pretty laid back manner.

It's time for another TV WEEK here at Daily Billboard with lots of returning favourite shows and new series debuting for the midseason.

First up is this second season billboard for Being Human on Syfy, the U.S. remake of the cult hit BBC TV series.

The show follows the misadventures of three unusual twenty-something roommates - a ghost, a werewolf and a vampire, played by Meaghan Rath, Sam Huntington and Sam Witwer respectively.

This cool billboard was snapped in two locations along Melrose Avenue on December 28, 2011.

She helped Svedka Vodka win a coveted BAB Award for the 2011 drinks category, but here's a blast from the past and the clever campaign featuring the futuristic fembot from 2009.

These witty, youthful and colourful billboards really stand out and their made up brand credentials of being the voted the number one vodka in 2033 really is a clever way of looking like a market leader regardless of the facts.

These sassy eye-catching ads were snapped gracing the skies and streets of L.A. during October and November 2009.

Olivia Munn and Kim Kardashian PETA anti-fur billboards...

Actress and TV presenter Olivia Munn battles it out naked against fur-wearing reality star Kim Kardashian in the skies above Beverly Boulevard in L.A. this month.

Olivia Munn follows in the footsteps of Taraji P. Henson who also stripped naked for a billboard campaign for the animal rights organisation last year to show her support against fur farming.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are never afraid to pull their punches and here's another billboard opposing animal testing from May 13, 2011, photographed along Westwood Boulevard.

The Hills reality star Audrina Patridge is another celebrity who has supported PETA in the past, with this pet adoption angel billboard snapped on May 22, 2009.

These new eye-catching and thought-provoking anti-fur billboards were snapped along Beverly Boulevard, the Kim Kardashian version on December 22, 2011 and the Olivia Munn creative on the opposite side of the street on January 12, 2012.

There's nothing like a nun with spooky eyes to convey the theme of a movie.

Unfortunately, the true horror about this film isn't that it's about demonic possession and exorcisms, but rather that it's terribly bad and has been universally panned by critics and audiences alike.

Regardless, this striking billboard for The Devil Inside still stands out along Sunset Boulevard, where it was snapped on on January 10, 2012.

How's that for a suitably superstitious and creepy billboard for Friday 13th?

To celebrate twenty years of fabulous shoes, Christian Louboutin has this super-sized high heel billboard along L.A.'s Sunset Plaza.

Notorious for his unique shoe designs, this colourful billboard really catches your eye as you drive west along Sunset Boulevard.

This giant glamourous fashion billboard was snapped on January 8, 2012, and the graffiti art on the ad is courtesy of L.A. artist Galo MAKE Canote.

TRIO DAY: Cirque du Soleil Iris and Ovo billboards...

If you're a Cirque du Soleil fan then you'll love these intriguing billboards for their Iris and Ovo shows here in L.A.

The new, bolder creative for the permanent Iris show at the Kodak Theatre, which has more going on in the picture, was photographed along Sunset Boulevard on December 30, whilst the yellower launch billboard was snapped on June 29, 2011 along Highland Avenue.

Rather appropriately for the Hollywood based Iris, this show is a mix of circus arts, acrobatics and street entertainment all about a journey through the world of cinema.

The billboard for the touring Ovo show, which is all about the energetic world of insects, was snapped on January 2, 2012 along Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood.

TRIO DAY: Dr. Seuss' The Lorax movie billboards..

There are just some movies and characters which lend themselves to great billboard advertising.

Of course it helps if what you're trying to market is a visually exciting creation like The Lorax.

These eye-catching, zesty orange billboards for the animated movie, based on the 1971 environmentally-themed children's book written by Dr. Seuss, really stand out against that gorgeous blue California sky.

The humorous special extension billboard with its yellow bushy eyebrows and moustache literally beams down at passersby and is impossible to miss.

The extra-special 3D version is simply magnificent with its raised features and is Daily Billboard's favourite billboard of the year so far (granted we're still in January), and easily a worthy contender for the BAB Award for Best Billboard Installation.

Here's another standard billboard for the movie snapped on November 30, 2011 at Universal Studios Hollywood.

The standard face creative was snapped along Sunset Boulevard at Cahuenga Boulevard on January 3, 2012.

The Lorax's cheery 3D face (which must have cost a small fortune to produce) can be seen driving along Sunset Plaza at the top of La Cienega Boulevard in West Hollywood and was captured on January 4, 2012.

What a great standard of creativity to set for the start of 2012, let's hope there's more like this to follow.

Here's a wonderfully bright and attention grabbing billboard to bring the first TV WEEK of the New Year to an end here at Daily Billboard.

ABC Family's Jane by Design certainly catches your eye with its vibrant blocks of colour and the repetitive design featuring Erica Dasher in identical, but different hued outfits.

The ad does a great job of communicating the fashion theme of the new series, in which the actress stars as a high-school student, 'Jane Quimby', who mistakenly gets a job at a stylish fashion house and has to juggle both cut-throat worlds.

The billboards for the new show were snapped along Beverly Boulevard on December 20 and Melrose Avenue on December 28, 2011.

It's not everyone that can make politics and current affairs fun, but comedian Bill Maher tries his best on his HBO show and apparently he can handle the truth (unlike most politicians it seems).

These billboards for Real Time with Bill Maher really make an impact on the streets of L.A. with their patriotic red, white and blue colour scheme.
The giant version was snapped on December 16 towering over Sunset Boulevard and the smaller standard format at the intersection of Fairfax Avenue and Beverly Boulevard on December 24, 2011.

Shameless returns for more drunken shenanigans with this fun and appropriately mischievous set of billboards for a second season of the 'smashed hit' series.

William H. Macy's 'Frank Gallagher' and his dysfunctional brood are back with more outrageous schemes to bring home the bacon in Chicago and keep viewers entertained.

The standard size billboard was photographed along Sunset Boulevard, whilst the giant-sized version was snapped along Highland and Franklin Avenues on December 20, 2011.

Daily Billboard laughed out loud upon seeing this quirky billboard for A&E's forthcoming series, Shipping Wars.

Let's be frank, it's not an every day occurrence to see a giant garden gnome being hauled on a trailer and it really makes for an arresting visual.

It certainly helps make the reality series, which follows six independent shippers who transport the unconventional items that other freight carriers won't consider, seem more lighthearted and compelling a show than the name may suggest.

This fun, eye-catching billboard was snapped along Sunset Boulevard on December 16, 2011 (which also had a nice timely, festive 'Santa Claus' feel with the white beard and red hat).

TV WEEK: America's Most Loved billboard...

There's nothing especially exciting about this TV billboard aside from the fact that it collects two of The History Channel's shows, American Pickers and Pawn Stars, under the same patriotic 'America's Most Loved' banner.

What is interesting is that it continues the trend to promote two shows on the same channel together on one billboard, like The Big C and Weeds on Showtime this past season. No doubt it's a clever way to save costs and also save having to come up with a separate creative concept for each show, which don't normally lend themselves to great visuals.
