PHOTOS: A family in Hermitage safely escaped a burning apartment building by jumping from a balcony, according to authorities. Nashville Fire Department officials on the scene told News 2 fire crews were called just after 1:30 a.m. Wednesday to Highlands at the Lake Apartments on Arbor Lake Boulevard, where they found heavy flames around a second-floor balcony on the side of building nine.

The fire had reportedly spread to a landing outside of a second-floor unit that housed a family of five, blocking their way out.

The family resorted to jumping from their balcony, and they all escaped safely.

NFD said most occupants had escaped the building before they arrived, but three people in a second-floor unit at the front of the building were rescued by crews on a ladder truck.

Approximately five dogs were also safely evacuated from the building.

VIDEO: A new public safety training facility is open in Lenoir City, called the Don W. White Public Safety Training Center. This is the first time the city, or Loudon County, has had a local training facility for law enforcement or firefighters, and Lenoir City Police Chief Johnathan Bryant said as the city has grown, so has the police department.

“This current budget year, we’ve added an additional school resource officer position. We also added a housing engagement officer within our public housing authority properties. So, yes, we are increasing our staffing as our population increases and has our, not just population, but also our business sector, and in other areas,” said Bryant.

He said before this training center opened, new and current officers would need to travel to Blount, Anderson, or other surrounding counties just to train.

Lenoir City Fire Chief Richard Martin said now they can respond faster.

“Now that we have our own training center, then we can have our resources here, do our training. And if there’s something happening in the city or the county, we’re capable of responding from here,” said Martin.

VIDEO/PHOTOS: An incident at a factory in Bradley County sent two workers to the hospital with severe burns Wednesday morning, authorities have confirmed. The incident happened at Amaero Advanced Materials & Manufacturing on Innovation Drive in Georgetown.

Cleveland Police Department Spokeswoman Sgt. Evie West says officers responded to a report of an explosion at the plant.

Cleveland Police say two workers were taken to local hospitals, one via a LIFE FORCE helicopter, both with severe burns.

Amaero is an Australia-based company that has employed a little more than 100 workers in Bradley County in the last couple of years.

Meanwhile, the Chattanooga Fire Department handled one of the patients who came to Chattanooga from this industrial accident.

The Chattanooga Fire Department says the other patient was taken to a hospital in Atlanta. Right now, we don’t know either injured worker’s condition.

The Nashville Fire Department is investigating a fire that sparked in a recently shut-down nightclub in downtown. The call for a commercial fire came in at about 4:30 a.m. on Monday, and Nashville Fire crews were dispatched to 142 Rosa Parks Boulevard, where they found smoke coming from the building.

Three businesses are located in the building, so firefighters quickly began investigating the source of the smoke once they arrived.

A small fire was found in the back of La Danse Nightclub, and a fire truck crane was used to access the roof to create ventilation.

The flames were quickly contained and extinguished, according to personnel at the scene.

“Crews made an interior attack, performed a search, and begin to extinguish the fire,” the Nashville Fire Department told WSMV on Monday afternoon. “No occupants were found inside the building and the fire was fully extinguished. No injuries were reported.”

The investigation into the cause of the fire began right away, as an accelerant-detection canine, or arson dog, was brought to the scene. The fire department said it will release more details about the fire once the investigation is complete.

La Danse was shut down last week following a rash of incidents, including a nearby shooting that left one person dead and several others injured.

The popular night spot has been involved in more than 500 emergency calls over the past five years, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

VIDEO: Bystanders pulled a woman from her burning car after a crash near Dickson on Friday morning. The woman lost control of her car and flipped over 100 yards off Highway 96 into the trees. Seconds later, the car began to smoke and quickly turned to flames. Brandon Wesnofske was driving down Highway 96 to move into his new home in Dickson when he came upon the scene.

“I thought it was going to be a normal Friday,” Wesnofske said. “I came around and was able to see this car and it had flipped a bunch and the windows were smashed in.”

Wesnofske and two others pulled the woman from the mangled minivan and out to safety just seconds before the whole thing ignited.

“It went all the way up. You know the flames were almost 30 feet high. Luckily the fire department got here when they did or all these woods would have burned down and maybe even some homes,” Wesnofske said.

“If I were in that car seat, that driver seat, those people would be rushing to help me as well,” he said.

Wesnofske says the woman was visibly injured from the wreck and was conscious and able to speak. Paramedics transported her to the hospital for treatment.

First responders launched a water rescue operation in Clarksville Sunday after a 12-year-old boy, who was last seen on a raft in the Robert Clark Park area, was reported missing. Clarksville Fire Rescue said crews were dispatched just before 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 10, after a man reported he hadn’t seen his son in nearly an hour.

According to the department, two units responded to Robert Clark Park and deployed a three-man boat team while other personnel staged at Billy Dunlop Park.

Officials said they confirmed visual contact with the child around 3:45 p.m., adding that he had slowly floated down the river to Billy Dunlop Park, but he appeared to be unharmed.

According to CFR, first responders brought the boy safely to the bank and got him out of the water by 4 p.m. EMS evaluated him at the scene and determined he didn’t need to go to the hospital.

No additional details have been released about this incident.

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The massive factory fire that began Friday morning is nearly fully extinguished as of Saturday morning, according to Henry County Emergency Management. Fire crews from multiple areas in the region responded to the Sigma Renew 360 facility Friday morning after a large fire was reported. WSMV sister station WBBJ reported that the fire reportedly began at 10:45 a.m.

HCEM said firefighters battled the blaze all day Friday and overnight into Saturday morning. Officials said that the fire was close to being fully extinguished Saturday.

With the fire mostly out, HCEM said the site will be turned over to an environmental cleanup company. The company had already been on site working to control the water runoff.

HCEM said in addition to the Henry Fire Department, crews from 20 out-of-county agencies assisted with the fire.

Officials said on Friday that smoke would continue throughout the surrounding area for 24 hours and may cause air quality issues in the area.

PHOTOS: Flames awoke families in several East Brainerd homes early Monday morning. Everyone got out safe. This happened near Andover Place a little after 1 a.m., according to a release from the Chattanooga Fire Department. Responding firefighters could see flames from Jenkins Road and Shallowford Road.

Once on the scene, they found a house with flames shooting through the roof.

Homes on either side of the residence were also starting to catch fire due to the extreme amount of heat, CFD says.

Fortunately each family got out of their homes without getting hurt. The first home that burned was a total loss.

The houses on either side sustained some damage, but firefighters successfully saved neighbors’ homes from being destroyed.
