I love unique art in a home. I used to be one of those that purchased all my wall art from Bed Bath and Beyond or Target. That’s until I started learning how easy it can be to make your own unique art for your home that will truly be one-of-a-kind. Sarah from The Ugly Duckling is always tackling such big DIY projects to turn her house into a home, and she’s adding unique pieces like her Easy Bike Art to her home to make it her own. Faux Metal Arrow – Wall Art

I love displaying “old” or vintage items around my home found at garage sales or thrift shops. Sometimes though when you want to display something “old”, but can’t find the perfect piece, why not make it?! Anna of Take the Side Street did just that when she created this faux metal arrow for her sons bedroom makeover that looks like it had been laying in the junk yard for years.

Using plywood cut out in an arrow shape, Anna layered various colors (+ a special “ingredient” to give it texture) to create the vintage, metal look. So cool, right? Think about all the decor accessories you could use this technique for! Monkey Hooded Towel

I think one of my favorite how to projects and tutorials to look for are sewing projects that look doable. Yet, I never attempt them. Sewing scares me… but some of the things that those that can sew make are just TOO CUTE! When I saw this Monkey Hooded Towel I was so jealous that someone can whip these up! I have two different animal towels for my son and would buy so many more if I could, but they’re like $20 each! Amber from Crazy Little Projects does a great step by step how to make this super cute kid Monkey Hooded Towel. She also releases a new tutorial each month for a new animal! She’s also done a Frog, and a Lady Bug.

Her little model almost steals the spotlight from her picture of it doesn’t he! He’s just perfect, and I am hoping that maybe if I can’t brave to make this towel, I can convince someone I know to try it for me. Upcycled Adult T-Shirt to Baby Jumper

Do you have a closet or drawer filled with t-shirts that haven’t been worn in years or that you’ve been thinking of tossing? I do! But wait – don’t toss em’, but instead make them into baby or toddler jumper/shortall like Heather of Feather’s Flight. What a great upcycling and memorable way to use those old t-shirts.

Starting with an average sized colorful or logo t-shirt (preferably a man’s ‘T’ because it’s larger and non-fitted) use a pattern (a suggestion is to use a jumper that you already have that fits your little one) and cut out the t-shirt. Light Fixture Turned Hanging Flower Planter

I think it’s so awesome when creative people think outside-the-box and completely transform something into another function. Erin of DIY On the Cheap did just that, when she upcycled an old light fixture by removing the “guts” and turning it into a hanging planter.

Once Erin removed the inner parts and cord from the existing light fixture, she gave it new life with a fresh coat of chrome spray paint, turned it over, added twine, and hung it up. Of course to finish off the planter, she added a beautiful and colorful planted flower. What a unique and creative result! What I love about projects like this is how it inspires others to take a typical item and change its function into something completely different. DIY Window Shutters

Any DIY project that is quick, simple and easy to do but makes a huge impact is the perfect DIY project in my book. That’s exactly what these DIY Window Shutters are by Jen of At Home in the Midwest!
