Overall Purpose Of Job:

The Programme Associate (PA) is responsible for the implementation of programme activities as directed by the Senior Technical Officer.

Other duties include research and document preparation in support of the development of new initiatives and partnerships.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Implementation of programmes (85%)

The Programme Associate will work closely with the Senior Technical Officer and Kenya team to ensure effective delivery of the results and objectives of WI’s programmes, often in multi-disciplinary teams based in several locations.

Main duties will include:

Implementation of relevant data gathering & analysis mechanisms, including GIS platforms
Research and analysis on key issues to inform advocacy work, eg. Reviewing strategic plans, analysing water use in specific catchments
Tracking media and networks for developments that could impact water resources and wetlands (eg. Business, policies, disasters…)
Community and local government level stakeholder meetings
Providing advice on environmental and wetland ecosystem issues to programme partners
Organising trainings, workshops, meetings and field trips
Preparing and delivering technical content at workshops
Support the development of appropriate communications materials, together with Kenya team and WIA Communications officer
Provide input and documentation as required to project planning and reporting processes
Supporting other programme activity related tasks as they arise

Development of new initiatives (15%)

Research and data analysis on potential issues identified for future development by Wetlands International
Providing input to project idea development, including writing proposals

Profile:

Expectation for the Position

Qualifications, experience and competencies required:

Essential

Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Hydrology or GIS. Commensurate experience may be considered.
At least 3 years of relevant employment experience
Experience in using GIS
Experience of working with CBOs and other stakeholders at community level
Experience of data collection on environmental and water management issues in the field and from desk studies
Ability to communicate the benefits of sustainable ecosystems management to stakeholders from different sectors
Good written and oral presentation skills and ability to communicate to a variety of audiences;
Confidence to work alone and dynamism to explore new avenues of enquiry
Excellent command of English and Kiswahili
Comprehensive computer skills, especially in Word, Excel, Email, Internet packages as well as GIS software
Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines

Preferred

Proven Ability to work in teams in a multi-cultural environment Knowledge of Tana River and Ewaso Nyiro North River Basins.
Previous experience with NGO or water management institution

The Position

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Provide a central point of reference, support and advice on all corporate and mortgage legal documentation issues.
Review all security documents for completeness, clarity and ensure that all legal risks are adequately covered
Ensure that all syndicated & cross border facility agreements and securities are properly drafted, negotiated and documented
Ensure proper and structured support for the Bank’s subsidiaries in documentation of cross border transactions
Manage loan documentation activities, end-to-end
Review, draft, revise and negotiate agreements relating to approved and proposed transactions
Manage issuance and processing of facility letters upon receipt of duly approved credit papers observing agreed timelines and high standards of accuracy
Advise relevant units on shortcomings noted upon receipt of credit approval and/or duly accepted facility letter
Prepare instructions and follow up Banks external lawyers in the preparation of security documents.
Liaise with external lawyers and other service providers on security documentation process and ensure that security documents and other conditions have been perfected/ completed prior to drawdown of facilities
Issue Compliance Certificate for purposes of disbursement of loan facilities
Proactively identify, monitor and mitigate all potential legal documentation risks in the corporate and mortgage business as appropriate.
Effectively manage the process of engaging external lawyers, including putting in place an effective consequence management system and adoption and implementation of best practices
Remain current on regulatory and legal developments impacting the Bank’s business

Experience/Knowledge:

Seasoned lawyer with overall 5-7 years of experience, with at least 3 years of experience in a role with a financial institution or top tier legal firm supporting financial institutions
Excellent level of legal documentation experience in private practice and/or as in-house corporate legal counsel
Demonstrable ability to draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements
Experience managing the work of other lawyers
Law degree from a reputable learning institution
Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a current practicing license
Masters degree in law or business will be an added advantage
Must have a minimum of 2 years practical experience in documentation of syndicated, project finance and cross border transactions
Expertise and experience in servicing financial industry clients in a top tier law firm or within the scope of a legal/credit department of a large financial institution

About Innovations for Poverty Action:

Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) is a non-profit research organization that creates and evaluates approaches to solving development problems.

IPA disseminates the results of its evaluations to policymakers, practitioners, investors and donors around the world.

Field Officers will work with IPA to assess data collection tools for clarity and usefulness.

To accomplish this, Field Officers will work with the Project Associate to test surveys in non-study areas.

Field Officers will also work with the Project Associate to conduct focus groups in order to further refine these surveys and data collection tools.

Field Officers will then work with the Project Associate to refine and improve these data collection tools.

Field Officers will be based in Nairobi or Central Province and will be required to travel within and between these regions.

Overnight trips are possible. Field Officers will work closely with one another and will be accompanied by the Project Associate for the purpose of piloting work and focus groups.

FOs will spend approximately 90% of their time in the field and 10% of their time in the Nairobi office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Warehouse Coordinator

Job Purpose:

Under the supervision of the Purchasing Manager, the Warehouse Coordinator will have responsibility to receive, verify, document, warehouse and distribute goods and commodities received into the warehouse.

The job holder will carry out periodic physical count of warehouse and storage items.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Receive and verify all goods purchased and raise Goods Received Note (GRN) against purchase order as evidence that goods have been delivered.
Enter received goods into warehouse and storage upon approval of GRN by relevant officers
Ensure goods received are of the right quality and quantity as described in purchase order, recording variances for further action
Maintain warehoused items with highest degree of care and integrity by preventing pilferage or damage. This will also include control of access to warehouse and storage.
Prepare stacking/ storage plans for all store inventory in accordance with warehousing best practice
Update bin cards on daily basis and maintain ledgers parallel to the computerized inventory as a short term control tool
Oversee the issue and distribution of materials as per agreed schedule and procedures ensuring appropriate documentation
Maintain, record and update movement of storage items and ensure that documentation properly filed
Maintain, record and update all waybills issued for suppliers transferred outside CAT warehouse and follow-up on return of waybill by the receiver
Monitor stock movement to identify fast moving commodities and establish necessary re-order levels
Maintain cleanliness in the warehouse and ensure that order is maintained at all times
Ensure safety of the stores from fire, water and other elements that may damage items. Manage the safekeeping of keys and ensure fire detection and prevention mechanisms are in place.

Generate stock reports on a weekly basis for review by the authorized officer and have a ready “warehouse position” report on demand.

Duties and Responsibilities

Manage the movement of goods and commodities from warehouse through various locations to destination within the region
In liaison with shipment subcontractor, ensure that goods and commodities are shipped from the supplier and cleared with customs in a timely manner
Coordinate the arrival of shipments (both local and imported) into the warehouse
Liaise with international suppliers to ensure timely issue of pro-forma invoices, certificate of conformity and originals of all relevant import documents
Oversee clearing agent to ensure expeditious movement of goods through customs to avoid demurrage/ storage charges and ensure timely issue of IDF, direct loading of cargo, clearing documents and lodging of customs entry
Ensure relevant insurance covers for cargo, stock, goods in transit and that these are updated as is necessary
In liaison with relevant internal departments, ensure bills are verified and paid in a timely manner
Ensure goods received are as described in order, packing and shipping documents
Oversee the distribution of goods from the warehouse and manage reverse logistics where necessary
Coordinate with the transport subcontractor to ensure efficiency in delivery of goods and commodities to sites within the region, as well as proper tracking and tracing of these goods and commodities
Under the direction of procurement manager, manage subcontractors along the supply chain
Identify and communicate areas of improvements and efficiencies
Prepare status report for the consumption of relevant officers

Job Purpose:

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for the accurate preparation of periodic financial reports on financial performance to ensure management has up to date information (trial balance, profit and loss account, balance sheet)
Ensure proper recording of debtors and creditors (both trading and non-trading) and ensure accurate reconciliation of balances
Ensure credit control by reviewing of outstanding accounts and advising management accordingly
