Ron Paul surging in Iowa, leads in latest PPP poll

Ron Paul is having a late surge in Iowa, taking the lead in the latest PPP poll:

“2012 GOP Presidential candidate Ron Paul is leading Iowa according to a new PPP poll released yesterday evening, with 20 percent of the vote. The survey has Paul also leading among Independents and Democrats with 30 percent of the vote, more than twice that of the nearest challenger.”

“…This comes on the heels of a CNN/Time poll which showed Ron Paul strong against President Obama. Highlights from the poll include Paul besting Obama 47 to 46 percent among those 65 years and older, said to be the most reliable voters. Paul also beats Obama among persons who reside in rural areas 52 to 44 percent and with Independents 48 to 47 percent.”

Ron Paul and Mitt Romney are trading the lead poll position in Iowa’s upcoming caucus, depending on which poll you look at it or depending on the day, it’s going to come down to the wire!

When asked about his goals in running for president, Paul repsonded: “I’m in it to win it…As president I would reduce the power of government, I wouldn’t seek it. I would never take the power from Congress…The Constitution was written to restrict the government, not to restrict the people, now it’s turned around. We use government to restrict the people in all manner. So I would like to reverse that.”

Ron Paul is Republican front runner

Ron Paul’s support is surging, putting him solidly in position as a Republican front runner. Yesterday Paul took second in the Ames Straw poll in Iowa, only 152 votes short of Michelle Bachman (who is from Iowa).

28.55% (4823 votes) – Michele Bachmann
27.65% (4671 votes) – Ron Paul
13.58% (2293 votes) – Tim Pawlenty
9.81% (1657 votes) – Rick Santorum
8.62% (1456 votes) – Herman Cain
4.25% (718 votes) – Rick Perry (write-in)
3.36% (567 votes) – Mitt Romney
2.28% (385 votes) – Newt Gingrich
0.41% (69 votes) – Jon Huntsman
0.21% (35 votes) – Thaddeus McCotter

This is a dramatic shift from 2007 when Paul took 5th at the Iowa straw pool. Ron Paul has been taking 1st or second in all major straw polls this year. Earlier this year Paul took 2nd in the New Hampshire straw poll, first at the conservative CPAC straw poll, first at the RLC, the Louisiana leadership straw poll.

Ron Paul Wins SRLC straw poll by landslide!

Another big straw poll win for Ron Paul. Remember that he needs donations early in his campaign, the donations are more valuable now than they will be later so go donate if you can.

As has become typical at GOP cattle calls, Ron Paul captured the presidential straw poll at the Republican Leadership Conference here, easily besting his nearest competitor, Jon Huntsman.

Paul won 612 votes to Huntsman’s 382. Michele Bachmann came in third with 191 votes and Herman Cain finished behind her, taking 104 votes.

More on upcoming Utah bill to ban unconstitutional TSA pat-downs

Utah Rep. Carl Wimmer is set to introduce a bill (sometime next year?) that would restrict TSA agents to Constitutional searches only at airport checkpoints.

…Wimmer told KSL News it is the role of the state Legislature to protect Utah residents from illegal searches and seizures, and he said the TSA is violating people’s rights every day in the airports.

Wimmer also said people all over the country should be outraged that the federal government threatened Texas after a bill there to regulate the TSA pat downs started moving through their house of representatives.

A somewhat misleading headline but an informative article:

…”The absolute overbearing audacity of the federal government in threatening Texas while Texas is trying to protect their citizens should really offend any red-blooded American,” he said.
