2 men killed, 1 man arrested after a car crashes into a Broward canal while trying to flee from police, BSO says

Broward Sheriff’s detectives are investigating after a car crashed into a canal in Parkland on Friday, killing 2 men inside.

Investigators say the car was fleeing from Sunrise police in reference to an unknown incident that occurred in the city. The officer ended up losing sight of the 2025 BMW X1 because it was fleeing at a high rate of speed in the area of Nob Hill and Loxahatchee Road.

While looking for the vehicle in the roundabout nearby, the officer noticed the BMW was in a canal on the north side of Loxahatchee Road. That’s when Anthony Davis, 26, was arrested by the Sunrise Police Department.

Anthony Davis is facing charges of robbery by sudden snatching with a firearm or weapon and resisting an officer without violence.

Broward Corrections

Two other occupants in the car, Jerome Taylor, 32, and Kelby Broward-Richardson, 31, were initially not located. The BSO Aviation, K-9, Drone units, and Dive Team responded to the scene to locate both men, whose whereabouts were unknown at the time, whether they fled on foot or were still in the canal.

Later Friday evening, both men were found dead in the canal by BSO’s Dive Team. Investigators say that speeding is believed to be a contributing factor to this crash.

Davis is facing charges of robbery by sudden snatching with a firearm or weapon and resisting an officer without violence.

The investigation into the crash continues.

Rising and fluctuating fuel prices pinching pockets of interstate semi truck drivers in South Florida

Steven Maclean, a long-haul truck driver, says he has spent $2,500 more on fuel this past month hauling supplies from Canada to South Florida and across the U.S.

“You don’t plan for anything extra, that’s for sure,” Maclean said. “You barely pay yourself”.

Maclean noted he has seen different diesel prices in each state he has traveled to. As of Saturday, AAA reported Florida’s average diesel fuel price at $5.54 a gallon.

“Florida’s price is the best now that I’ve seen,” Maclean said. “Maine, like a month ago, was $5; now it’s up to $6, I think”.

The conflict in Iran continues to impact fuel prices. Al Hanley, who is with a CDL school that trains truck drivers, teaches techniques to limit fuel usage.

“Idle time is a killer, so if they’re stuck in traffic, and the truck is running and it’s doing miles, that hurts them,” Hanley said. “Planning your routes better—maybe operating at different times of the day, overnights, or weekends—and maybe not driving during rush hour if they can avoid it”.

Hanley said it is hard to tell how much this will impact the freight industry because fuel prices have fluctuated almost daily.

AAA data shows Miami’s average diesel price is $5.52 a gallon, 3 cents less than yesterday, but this price range is significantly higher than the average of $3.43 a gallon this time last year.

Trucking companies often buy fuel in bulk, but the price they pay one day could be higher than the price the next day, Hanley said.

“It’s called a short squeeze,” Hanley said. “They’re having to get a higher price today and receive it at a higher price than it is really in the market”.

Hanley believes that if drivers use his tips, they could save thousands in gas a year, noting that trucks carrying heavy loads over long distances usually have poor gas mileage.

Man riding an e-bike killed in a crash with a Coral Springs police vehicle, officers say

A man riding an e-bike was killed on Friday night after a crash involving a Coral Springs Police vehicle.

Coral Springs police say that the incident happened near the 4300 block of Riverside Drive.

When officers arrived, they confirmed that an e-bike and a marked police car had collided. Officers immediately started giving the e-bike driver aid.

The man riding the e-bike was rushed to the hospital by the Coral Springs Fire Department, where he was pronounced dead.

His identity has not yet been released.

No word was available on whether the marked police vehicle had an officer inside or if the officer was injured.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the city’s police department is asking the public to contact them if they have any information or witnessed the crash at 954-346-1268.

Crash involving semi, pickup on I-75 in Broward County blocks lane

A crash involving a semi and a pickup truck shut down one lane of I-75 North in Broward County Saturday morning.

Florida DOT’s Florida 511 tool reports it happened around 9 a.m. before Exit 21 to SR-84, Northwest 184th Avenue and Indian Trace. The crash left the right lane blocked.

The City of Weston said an Air Rescue helicopter was called in to transport someone to a hospital for treatment. The helicopter left the scene around 10 a.m., allowing the highway to partially reopen.

Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire told CBS News Miami said the pickup hit the rear of the semi, leaving it wedged beneath the trailer. One person was found trapped inside, prompting immediate extrication efforts by emergency crews. That patient, BSO Fire said, is reported to be in stable condition.

Officials urged drivers to move over or slow down as crews worked to clear the scene. BSO Fire said Florida Highway Patrol would lead the investigation into what led up to the crash.

'DWTS' Judge Carrie Ann Inaba details being hospitalized after medical emergency on a flight

Carrie Ann Inaba is recovering after suffering a medical emergency mid-flight.

The “Dancing With the Stars” judge shared an Instagram video April 16 that showed her being transported in an ambulance and getting treated at a hospital following a health scare.

“Yesterday was quite a day,” Inaba, 58, began in the caption. She wrote that she recently flew to New York for “something I am very passionate about.”

However, during her flight she started to feel “quite ill” and had to ask for help.

“And while it seemed like food poisoning, I also suddenly broke out into a cold sweat, got dizzy and my arms went numb,” she wrote. “Normally I handle most of my health things on my own. Like many people who live with autoimmune disease, I travel with a health tool kit and am prepared for the worst, but this scared me.”

Inaba has previously spoken about living with multiple autoimmune disorders, including lupus, fibromyalgia and Sjogren’s syndrome.

The dancer and choreographer said she went to the restroom despite the plane experiencing turbulence.

“I didn’t want to have anyone else put themselves at risk… but when my arms went numb, it was time to ask for help,” she wrote.

Inaba continued to share updates in the comments section, thanking the flight attendant who assisted her, as well the medical professionals, “who answered the call of ‘is there a doctor on board.’”

“I ultimately left the ER to go back to my hotel when I felt stable enough,” she shared, apologizing for having to cancel interviews and meetings.

“I’m always thankful for the moments that scare or challenge me especially with my health. They remind me that while I often face my health challenges alone, I am not alone,” she added. “None of us are. The helpers are everywhere.”

A handful of her “DWTS” colleagues, including Alan Bersten, Daniella Karagach, Pasha Pashkov, as well as friends like Ricki Lake, Kimberly Van Der Beek and Chrishell Stause sent her well wishes.

Earlier this month, after taking a brief Instagram hiatus, Inaba shared that she has been working on a new project that is “very dear to my heart” and “something very personal” that would “help a lot of people.”

Eminem's daughter Alaina Scott welcomes a baby girl she named after her sisters

Eminem’s daughter Alaina Scott has announced that she has given birth to her first child, a baby girl.

Scott and her husband, Matt Moeller, whom she has been married to since June 2023, welcomed their daughter on April 14. She shared pictures of the adorable newborn and revealed her special name in an Instagram post two days after her arrival.

“My heart outside my body,” Scott gushed in the caption. “She’s everything and more.”

She added, “Scottie Marie Moeller born 4/14/26 welcome to the world my sweet darling,” and included a white dove.

The couple first announced they were expecting in October 2025. Scott uploaded a carousel of pictures that showed her surprising her husband with the news.

“THE BEST OF YOU + ME,” she cheered in the caption. “For months, I’ve carried a tiny heartbeat inside me, one that has already changed mine in every possible way.”

She added, in part, “I’ve never felt more grateful for this gift and to grow our family, something we’ve wanted for so long.”

At the time, younger sister Hailie Jade Mathers commented, “Sooo happy for you guys can’t wait to be this little ones auntie & elliot is so excited to meet his cousin.”

Scott is Eminem’s oldest daughter who was adopted by the rapper when she was a child. She is the daughter of Dawn Scott, the sister of Eminem’s ex-wife, Kim Scott. Dawn Scott died in 2016 at the age of 41.

Hailie Jade Mathers, whom Eminem shares with Kim Scott, welcomed her first child, a baby boy, with husband Evan McClintock in April 2025.

In addition to his two older children, Eminem is also a dad to Stevie Laine Mathers, whom he also adopted.

Dylan Sprouse tackles trespasser in Los Angeles home invasion

Actor Dylan Sprouse confronted and tackled a trespasser at his Los Angeles home overnight Friday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The trespassing was reported around 12:30 a.m. on April 17, after the “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” alum held the suspect down until officers arrived. LAPD added that Sprouse was armed but did not draw his firearm during the confrontation.

After officers arrived, Sprouse declined to prosecute the man for the incident, police said.

However, the suspect was ultimately detained and arrested on an outstanding warrant unrelated to the trespassing. Law enforcement did not go into detail on that warrant, nor did they release the name of the man in the incident.

LAPD did not report any injuries in connection with the confrontation.
