The Clash Official Site

Thanks to fan: Talon Adkins for writing the majority of this article

Formed in 1976 in London, England, The Clash quickly soared into stardom as they spearheaded the original Punk movement of the mid to late 1970's. Consisting of Joe Strummer (Rhythm Guitar/ Vocals), primary lyricist), Mick Jones (Lead Guitar/ Vocals), Paul Simonon (Bass) and Terry Chimes (Drums), the group recorded their self-titled debut album, The Clash. Shortly after, Terry Chimes was replaced by Nicky Headon, who would continue to drum for them until 1982, when he was then replaced by Chimes. As a follow up to their hit original LP, the Clash released Give 'Em Enough Rope, as their second album. However, nothing would have prepared the world for their next album, the vastly commercial successful and iconic London Calling. The album quickly rose into a rare echelon of one of the most popular and influential albums in history.

In 1980, the band released Sandanista!. They followed up that album with Combat Rock in 1982. Sadly, the band, due to artistic differences and drug problems, began to disintegrate. Topper Headon left in 1982. Followed by Mick Jones in 1983. The band composed itself enough to release its last album in 1985 titles Cut The Crap. In 1986, Joe Strummer and Paul Simonon finally disbanded the band.

I will apologize right now as I have had a hard time finding any information on these guys. A great band, worth the check-out. Here is what I was able to scavenge:

Dave Elkins and Jacob Marshall got together and released their first album, Destination: Beautiful, in 2003, under Tooth and Nail Records. Two years later, they released their second album, The Everglow. They left Tooth and Nail Records and joined Captiol Records in 2006 where they released their third album Singularity. During 2009, they have been releasing one song each month for download for a minimum donation of $1 per song. They have compiled the songs into 3 Ep's: (M)orning, (A)fternoon, and (E)vening. (E)vening has yet to be released due to their loss of instruments from when they were robbed in Philadelphia.

Here is their music video for the song "Suspension" from the album The Everglow.

Eminem

Eminem Official Site

Eminem, a rapper from Missouri, made his debut in the music industry with his album Infinite in 1996. He says that that album was a growing album, one where he was trying to figure out what kind of rap he was going to create. He released an Ep after Infinite that was picked up by Dr. Dre who wanted to get him in his studio at Aftermath Entertainment. With Dre's help, Eminem released The Slim Shady LP in 1999 which became one of the most popular albums of the year while going triple platinum. He followed up the success of the album with The Marshall Mathers LP. The album did very well, selling 1.76 million copies in its first week. Eminem was on fire and released Eminem Show in 2002. The album ended up selling over 20 million copies world-wide. Some praised him for his album while some were offended by his use of obscene language. Whether the people against him liked it or not, he had made his mark on the world.

In 2004, Eminem had released Encore which was not quite as successful as Eminem Show, but did still sell over 15 million copies worldwide. Successful as it was, many people were offended. Michael Jackson was especially offended by the music video for the song "Just Lose It" which depicted Michael Jackson's child molestation trial, plastic surgery, and his hair catching on fire. Eminem publically apologized for the offence. Not much was seen from Eminem until in 2009, he released his newest album, Relapse.

Here is the controverial (and possibly offensive) video for "Just Lose It" from Encore.

In 2001, the band released Smash Mouth. The album did well, though not quite as well as the albums before it by only hitting gold in the US.

In 2003, Smash Mouth released their fourth album Get The Picture?, which was a commercial failure that caused them to get dropped by Interscope. They sent the tape to various record companies and were turned down by all of them, the band then sold the demo tapes at their shows and started to become a monstrous success as they became the first band to have an Indie release hit platinum. They released their first album Gordon in 1992 which was a great success in Canada. Their second album Maybe You Should Drive was released two years later and did not sell well in Canada or the US causing a large amount of money loss. They tried again in 1996 with their album Born On A Pirate Ship that was released as a quartet album. The album did well, though not as well as Gordon. While on tour, they recorded a live album Rock Spectacle which was their first album to hit gold status in the US.

In 1998, they released their third album, Stunt. The album was a major success with their hit song "One Week" topping the Billboard Top 100. Stunt ended up hitting platinum 4 times. They followed the massive success in 2000 with their album Maroon. The album did well, but it did not live up to Stunt's standards. They released another album Everything To Everyone in 2003. The album was their worst selling album in a long run of great albums. The band is still living strong currently and is still contributing to the music world.

After little success, Laurent left and Guy-Manuel and Thomas started to experiment with drum machines and synthesizers. After deciding to continue on as an electronic duo, the two friends named themselves after a harsh review received during their time in Darlin' that called them nothing but "Daft Punk." Years passed and they created many singles until signing with Virgin Records in 1996 where they recorded their debut album Homework in 1997. The album was coined as one of the most influential dance albums of the 90's. This is my introductory post giving you all an insight into what I aim to do.

I am a person who loves music. Each day I will "highlight" an artist or band that has caught my ears. I am sorry to say to you country fans that I do not like country music in the least. I am not saying that it is a terrible genre, just that it is not what catches my fancy. Due to this, you will NOT see any country artist's or bands. I am an open person otherwise. While the current rap and hip-hop trends are not my favorite style, I will highlight them from time to time if a song reaches my ears and catched my interest.

Highlighting means that I will provide (if possible) a picture of the artist or band, a link to their site, a brief bio, and a popular or good song choice to listen to by the arist or band.

The first highlight will be given tomorrow. Stay tuned!
