Harry Styles addresses ICE shooting in New York with call for ‘dignity and justice’

Harry Styles paused his concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Saturday to address the shooting of a Dominican immigrant by federal immigration agents, urging fans to show compassion toward people from different backgrounds and calling for "dignity" and "justice."

The British pop star addressed the crowd after referencing Oscar Belgal, a 28-year-old man who was shot by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers Thursday while his 5-year-old son was sitting in the back seat of his car.

"I just want us to take a moment to think about Oscar Belgal tonight, and I want us to think and remember to just look after each other," Styles said.

"So, please, continue looking after each other," he continued. "And remember, your friends, the people you love, the people who don't look like you and aren't born where you're from, they deserve respect, and love, and dignity and justice."

The remarks prompted criticism from film critic and commentator Christian Toto, who told Fox News Digital that speaking out against ICE has become a way for celebrities to gain approval within the entertainment industry.

"This is the new black square on Instagram — speaking out on ICE gets you respect within your artistic community and endless positive press," Toto said. "I think the mainstream media has far more impact on public opinion. Social media does, too. Celebrities weighing in on matters like this? I suspect it doesn't move the needle at all. We view the stars as detached from our day-to-day lives, so we may agree with them on hot-button issues but they're not winning any converts."

He suggested that entertainers face pressure within Hollywood to embrace political causes, while those who remain silent may be better positioned to avoid alienating fans.

"There's an expectation within celebrity circles to embrace the cause du jour. The benefits are clear, and they're never held responsible when history doesn't align with their views. I suspect the stars who don't speak out at all fare best with their fans," Toto said.

Styles' comments came as the shooting of Belgal sparked protests and criticism from New York officials, including Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

Belgal was shot after allegedly refusing to comply with officers conducting a targeted arrest operation, Fox News Digital reported. Federal officials said he accelerated his vehicle toward agents, prompting them to open fire. During a Thursday night news conference, Mamdani said he personally urged Trump to release Belgal and condemned the federal immigration agency.

"We know that ICE is rotten to its core. Today's shooting is only further devastating confirmation of what we have long known..." Mamdani said.

"Our officers, using their training and believing that their life and the life of the partners and the general public were in danger, used their training and fired weapons," Charles said.

Officials said agents were unaware that Belgal's son was inside the vehicle. The child was unharmed.

The Department of Homeland Security said Belgal had a prior grand larceny conviction and previous arrests for assault, robbery, drug possession and weapons possession. Federal officials also alleged ties to the Trinitarios street gang.

A federal judge temporarily blocked Belgal's deportation Friday while his legal challenge to detention proceeds, and the New York Police Department released body camera footage showing the aftermath of the shooting.

It's getting ridiculous. Well, it's past ridiculous.

The SEC, somehow, keeps getting preferential treatment in the AP Top 25 Poll in a way no other conference does. For some reason. And this week's poll might be the best example yet of how the bias among poll voters continues to impact the college football season.

Let's look at how the voters handled some of the biggest results of the weekend, compared to how they handled previous results from teams with the wrong patch on the front of their jersey.

WEEK 6 AP TOP 25 POLL SEES A MAJOR MIXUP AND A NEW TOP TEAM IN THE COUNTRY AFTER AN UPSET-FILLED SATURDAY

To start, we can look at the Texas-Oklahoma game. While the Longhorns outgained the Sooners both in total yardage and yards per play, they were set back by two terrible fourth quarter interceptions from quarterback Arch Manning. Both at the worst possible time. One was returned for a touchdown, and the other effectively allowed Oklahoma to win the game in regulation.

The Sooners were not ranked entering the week, and for good reason. They lost on the road to Michigan, scored just 14 points against New Mexico, and were blown out by Georgia 41-13. They're not a very good team. Texas may have outplayed them, but the very clear flaws in Manning's game cost them the result. A neutral site game against a middling unranked team that scored 14 points at home against New Mexico. The punishment for the Longhorns? Dropping from No. 1 to No. 7.

When Ohio State lost as the No. 1 team in the country, on the road to the then-No. 4 Longhorns by one point after a miraculous comeback, they dropped from No. 1 to No. 6. Similar punishments for wildly different "quality" losses.

Then there's Alabama.

The Crimson Tide lost, at home, to the Georgia Bulldogs in a close game, though the Bulldogs averaged a whopping 7.5 yards per play to just 5.8 for Alabama. Though the Tide were denied a clear and obvious pass interference penalty in the fourth quarter that may have changed the game.

Still, it's a home loss. Yes, Georgia is good, and yes, the score was close, but poll voters typically punish any team for losing a home game. And remember, Ohio State lost on the road to the presumptive No. 1 team in the country and dropped five spots.

Not Alabama! Remarkably, the Tide didn't budge, going from No. 6 to...No. 6. After losing. At home. Why even play the games when they don't matter?

Ole Miss has received some exceptional SEC treatment too. The Rebels resume now looks worse and worse, thanks largely to Florida and LSU's poor play. The Gators went from the darlings of college football to deservedly unranked in just a few weeks after an embarrassing blowout loss at home to South Carolina. The same Florida team that dominated Ole Miss 52-28, scoring 35 points in the second half. LSU, meanwhile, lost on the road to an unranked Kentucky team, their second of the season.

So Ole Miss' big win now looks less impressive, and their loss went from "another quality blowout SEC road loss" to an indefensible blowout against a mediocre team. They entered the week at No. 9 in the AP Poll and after their resume took a huge hit, fell all the way to...No. 9.

What about LSU?

The Tigers spent a small fortune, at least $150 million, on hiring Lane Kiffin and revamping their roster. Thus far, they have an unimpressive 4-2 record to show for it, and with more tough games coming, an 8-4 finish might be the best case scenario. Two losses, no meaningful wins, and the Tigers somehow are still ranked No. 22.

Meanwhile, the Oregon Ducks have a win over a ranked team, No. 19 USC, and their two losses are to No. 18 Oklahoma State and No. 12 UCLA. Unranked. In fact, they're nearly 200 "points" behind the Tigers. Tennessee's big win this year is losing by three to Texas, yet they're ahead of other comparable one-loss teams.

Why does this matter? Well, there's a clear and obvious advantage this list gives the SEC: ranked wins and ranked losses. Tennessee plays Alabama this week, a ridiculous No. 6-No. 14 game. What should be two teams in the No. 10 and No. 20 range now looks much more important. LSU inexplicably staying in the polls at No. 22 allows this weekend's contest against Mississippi State to be another "ranked" game. Meanwhile, Nebraska, who's 5-1 with one close home loss to Indiana, is playing Oregon while both are unranked.

The polls determine strength of schedule, instead of more objective measurements, which is then used to inform arguments over the College Football Playoff field. The assumption, as always, is that the SEC has unmatched "depth" because of their brand names, marketing, and home stadiums.

In reality, SP+, an analytics-based ranking system housed at ESPN that compares teams' success and efficiency on offense, defense, and special teams, then adjusts for opponent, has seven SEC teams in the top-25, and nine from the Big Ten. In fact, there are six Big 12 teams in the SP+ top-25, should we be talking about the gauntlet of playing in that conference?

Despite years of underperformance in the playoff, poll voters just can't stop thinking it's the mid-2010's and Nick Saban is somehow coaching all 16 SEC teams. It's time to move on from the marketing and start accepting reality.

A cross country runner switched to the girls team midseason, parents voice their disapproval at meet

"Nobody wants to talk to you. I'm trying to be nice."

That was the not-so-nice greeting I got from a Camas High assistant cross country coach in Arlington, Washington on Saturday. It came as I stood near the start line for the Women's Elite 5k race at the Nike Hole in the Wall High School XC Invitational.

All I had done at that point was try to introduce myself, but it was clear that everybody involved with the school was on guard. The reason? One of the Camas runners entered in the Women's Elite 5K was a biological male.

What's unique about this particular trans athlete is that he started the year on the boys team — with which he finished 76th in a JV race — then switched to the girls team last month. He has since taken first place in a varsity meet and finished second in a different invitational.

This, as you might imagine, has sparked national attention, putting everyone at Camas on the defensive. But that assistant was wrong about one thing: Lots of people — mainly parents from opposing schools — wanted to talk to me.

"We're about as liberal as it gets. I just don't agree with that [boys competing against girls]. I mean, if they find your body in 300 years, what are they going to say you were," said Kent Lake of Lake Stevens, WA. "Look, you can live any way you want. You got my blessing. But I mean come on, in competitions? It's like stock car racing. It's gotta be even, and it's gotta be fair."

What prompted the Camas runner to switch from the boys to the girls team remains unclear. No Camas coach would talk (although one, along with a school administrator, was gracious to me), and the boy's mother wouldn't acknowledge my presence Saturday.

But such a switch is permitted under the rules of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA), which governs high school sports in the state. That doesn't mean most parents like it.

"When I first heard about this story, I was like, 'Is this real? That can't be real'," said a mother of a cross country runner, who requested anonymity. She argued that allowing transgender runners to compete against girls could deprive female athletes of victories they otherwise would have earned. "We have daughters, and it's robbing them of an opportunity to compete."

I LOST A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TO A BOY. I REFUSE TO LOSE MY VOICE

It should be noted that the Camas runner isn't a star, even among girls. He finished 39th in a field of 135 in Saturday's race with a time of 18:36.8. But had he run in the Men's Elite 5K, he would have placed last out of 159 runners by a good 30 seconds.

Said one parent, also requesting anonymity. "Whether they finish first, 40th or 90th, they're still taking the spot of a girl."

The anonymous route is the one that most chose last Saturday. One man wouldn't even let me record his voice — I had to repeat his quote into my phone using my own voice. This, after all, may be the most sensitive, contentious issue there is in sports. And ... not all the parents at Saturday's meet were necessarily against the Camas runner.

One said, "People can identify however they want. High school sports isn't about winning, it's about student athletes building confidence."

Another said, "There are more important things in sports than that [issue]."

A third said, "I just wish people could have more empathy and compassion and understanding for people. I do think it's tricky if you start on one team and midseason change. I wish there was a space for everyone."

Most, however, were like Kevin Ess, an Arlington High parent who had a compassionate but firm take on the matter.

"I think men and women, young men and young women, have been competing for hundreds of years, thousands of years, separately," Ess said. "I think it's an interesting experiment. I think it's an interesting topic, but my personal opinion is that they should continue to compete separately."

One father said something similar after lifting his hoodie to reveal the XX-XY shirt he was sporting underneath.

Another said allowing boys to compete with girls was "stupid" and that "Title IX was designed to protect women."

A mother said, "I would be so embarrassed to put my son in a position like this." And though part of me agrees with that last part, part of me also wonders if it's a little harsh.

I was genuinely curious about what the past few weeks have been like for the Camas runner's parents, but the mother completely ignored me on two separate attempts to talk. This was the same woman who reportedly started recording an athlete who protested the Camas runner last month by walking off the start line when the gun went off.

That athlete was Skyview High junior Charlie Garrett, who staged the walk-off alongside teammate Sierra Retzlaff. Both wore body paint saying "Keep women in women's sports" that mid-September day — and both were on hand at Saturday's event as well.

"Why is it so important for you to speak out on this topic?"

Retzlaff said: "Because if we don't, no one else will. If we start something, maybe others will have the courage to join."

Fortunately, there have been other girls and women who have spoken on this issue from Washington state and beyond. In fact, such courage helped get Initiative 638 — which would ban biological males from competing against girls in K-12 sports — on the Nov. 3 ballot in Washington state.

The situation in Camas could very well mobilize people to vote.

As one mother said Saturday: "There needs to be more work done to change the law, because schools are kind of tied to what the law is telling them to do. People need to get out and vote for what they want."

We all understand whether the Longhorns quarterback receives a lot more attention than others across the country based off his last name alone, that's a given.

But, at some point folks have got to start putting realistic expectations on the guy who is leading the Texas offense.

Right now, Arch Manning is a good college quarterback, and at times he plays like an average passer who has cost his team at least one game this season.

My goodness though, his head coach is not doing him any favors from a public perception standpoint.

On Monday, Steve Sarkisian was asked by a reporter that if you took the name 'Manning' off the back of his jersey, would there not be all of the 'incredible' expectations on the quarterback.

After starting his answer with the cliché talk of this being a team game, which it is, and the scheme of running the Texas offense, Sarkisian delivered this gem of an answer.

We could be discussing the starting quarterback for a Group of Six college football team.

Dementia risk more than quadruples among adults with common disorder

A common neurodevelopmental disorder could be linked to dementia risk, a new study suggests.

Research led by the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, involving more than 187,000 adults aged 50 and older, found that ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) was associated with a substantially increased risk of dementia or mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

The observational study looked at electronic health records and genetic information of participants who were enrolled in the U.S. National Institutes of Health All of Us Research Program.

Cognitive impairment was observed in 6.7% of participants with ADHD versus 3.4% without the disorder — nearly twice the rate.

After researchers adjusted for age, gender and other health conditions, those with ADHD had more than four times the risk.

The findings — which were published Oct. 7 in JAMA Psychiatry — only show an association and cannot determine that ADHD increases dementia risk, the researchers acknowledged.

"This doesn’t prove that ADHD causes dementia, but seeing the same pattern show up independently in medical records and in people’s genes gives us greater confidence that the association is not simply an artifact of how ADHD gets diagnosed," said senior author Tharick A. Pascoal, associate professor of psychiatry and of neurology at Pitt, in a press release.

"Two different kinds of evidence are pointing in the same direction."

"Analyzing genetic information alongside years of health records allows us to identify patterns that might not be visible in a smaller or more traditional study," said Guilherme Bauer-Negrini, co-first author and postdoctoral associate in biomedical data science at Pitt, in the release.

"With this kind of data, we can start to investigate what may be driving this association and whether any of those factors could be modified to support healthier cognitive aging."

Dr. Elizabeth Landsverk, a geriatric medicine and dementia expert with over 20 years of experience treating patients with Alzheimer’s and cognitive decline, noted that people with ADHD can have more difficulty with organization, which could contribute to the higher risk of cognitive impairment, although neurological differences may also play a role.

"It might [be] that keeping on top of health issues and getting to the doctor is more difficult for them," Landsverk, a California-based doctor who is not involved in the study, told Fox News Digital.

The study also found that people with ADHD had a 20% higher incidence of utilizing health resources, she pointed out.

"Having just signed up for Medicare, I know that it's really complicated — if you have trouble with focusing and getting things done, you may not be able to get the resources that you need," Landsverk said. "You may not be able to go to the doctor. You may not get your blood pressure taken care of. So there's probably a correlation."

"It goes back to nature versus nurture — particularly if we're starting at age 50, as opposed to starting at 20."

It can be challenging to distinguish between ADHD and cognitive decline, as some of the symptoms may overlap, according to Landsverk.

"I imagine it can look similar," she said. "You know, you don't remember why you went into a room. You don't know where your keys are, you don't remember the name of an actress."

It is cause for concern if the individual struggles to take care of day-to-day tasks, the expert noted.

"You can't pay your bills, you can't get your medications right, you can't get to your appointments, you tell people that you're going to do stuff and then you don't — that's when you need to get checked."

Changes in judgment, mood or social behavior may be more suggestive of dementia than ADHD, Landsverk noted.

Although the study found an association between ADHD and cognitive impairment, Landsverk emphasized that some lifestyle behaviors can help people reduce their overall dementia risk.

She pointed to maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol, and staying physically active as important modifiable factors, along with controlling blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes.

"There's a lot we can do," Landsverk said, recommending a largely plant-based diet and at least 30 minutes of daily exercise.

Physical activity can also help improve mood and focus, she added.

Anyone experiencing persistent problems with memory, focus, organization or managing everyday tasks should consider seeing an expert for an evaluation, Landsverk advised.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced the launch of an internal review of the New York Police Department’s use of force on Monday, but the initiative falls short of fulfilling several of his campaign promises, including pledges to disband a controversial police unit and eliminate a database of suspected gang members

"When the government uses force against a New Yorker, the standard for accountability must be at its highest," Mamdani said in a press release. "Every New Yorker deserves to know that force will be used lawfully, carefully and only when necessary."

More than nine months after taking office, Mamdani has yet to fulfill several campaign pledges, including disbanding the NYPD's Strategic Response Group, eliminating its database of suspected gang members and shifting police resources away from low-level offenses.

The review comes after the May 2026 retirement of one of the officers involved in the 2024 shooting of 19-year-old Win Rozario — a development that came before any disciplinary trial could take place.

Video footage of the confrontation, captured in March 2024, shows officers responding to a house call, placed by Rozario himself. An altercation ensued when Rozario, who was experiencing a mental health crisis, reacted adversely to the police presence, prompting the police to use Tasters on him. Unsubdued, Rozario then grabbed a pair of scissors and advanced on officers, who shot him at close range.

New York Attorney General Letitia James' office declined to bring criminal charges against the officers in December 2025, concluding that prosecutors could not disprove beyond a reasonable doubt that their use of deadly force was justified under state law.

The mayor framed his initiative as a way to strengthen and improve accountability.

Mamdani’s initiative comes with an additional $2.6 million in funding for the Office of Inspector General for the NYPD. Additionally, the NYPD will also notify state authorities when officers facing disciplinary charges retire, allowing the state to consider decertification and helping prevent those officers from avoiding scrutiny by joining another law enforcement agency.

Those changes will accompany a use-of-force review which, according to Mamdani, is the first of its kind in over a decade and will include a "robust community engagement process."

"We have an obligation to Win’s family and to every New Yorker who calls for help in a moment of crisis. This review is about making sure our policies reflect that responsibility," Mamdani said.

Notably, the proposed adjustments fall short of campaign promises that Mamdani made to eliminate certain policing activity.

"The fact that every year we ask them to take on additional responsibilities – we are making it more and more difficult for them to respond to the very responsibilities that drew them to the job in the first place," Mamdani said last fall.

During his tenure, public urination summonses have gone up, climbing 18%, according to recent reporting.

Mamdani also promised to end a database of suspected gang members. He also demanded an end to the Strategic Response Group (SRG), a policing task force that had received public attention for aggressive tactics in subduing protests.

"As Mayor, I will disband the SRG, which has cost taxpayers millions in lawsuit settlements + brutalized countless New Yorkers exercising their First Amendment rights," Mamdani said in a post to X shortly after announcing his bid for mayor.

Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, a far-left YouTube personality, was asked about his $2.7 million California home and his time at the Oscar parties after telling a comedian during a podcast on Sunday that he always wanted to be a champagne socialist.

Piker joined comedian Ziwe, who is known for her satirical celebrity interviews on her YouTube channel, where she often poses purposefully uncomfortable questions to her interview subjects. The Twitch streamer was asked by Ziwe if he's "always wanted to be a champagne socialist."

"Yes," he responded.

Piker attended Vanity Fair's Oscar party, and told the outlet in an interview, "I saw Jeff Bezos for a moment, but I tried to evade his peripheral vision. He’s the boss of a lot of people who were in that room, but he’s directly my boss. He owns Twitch, and my entire life is on Twitch."

He said, "I bring a lot of positive PR to Twitch, but I bring a lot of heat to Twitch as well, so I have made it a policy to be as invisible as possible. I don’t ever want Jeff Bezos to know who I am."

Ziwe also posed a question to Piker about his home.

"I mean, I have a mortgage. Like, I didn't, you know, pay cash for it. Some people think I just like literally went with like bags of cash and bought, that I have that kind of money. I don't," he said.

The comedian also said to the streamer, "I don't know if you can see or not, but there's sort of this irony, right? "I have a cooperative corporation, equal say, equal pay. And on top of that, I don't run any ads. I used to, when I had a contract with Amazon, so that I get banned less often. Sometimes you have to play ball with big corporations to be able to have a platform. So overall, it's obviously always going to be impossible to have like the most ethical standards and, as long as you're not engaging in you know harmful or abusive practices. I think I have a fairly decent approach when I do merchandise, for example, I work with union-made, American-made garment manufacturers," the far-left streamer said.

"He had no good response, either. That's what happens when you rhetorically hit a bully in the mouth. Piker has hit the campaign trail with some Democrats running in the November midterms and made several media appearances, including one with Axios, during which he said that the U.S. was worse than al-Qaeda.

ATF suspends federal registration and approval rules for certain firearms

Gun owners will no longer be required to federally register or seek advance approval to manufacture or transfer silencers, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns and "Any Other Weapons" (AOWs), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) announced Friday.

The policy directive halts National Firearms Act (NFA) enforcement for items subject to zero-dollar tax rates under the updated guidelines.

In a letter to federal firearms licensees, ATF Director Robert Cekada noted that the move follows a federal court decision invalidating key manufacturing and transfer provisions of the NFA.

A trailblazing former San Francisco deputy police chief is dead, alongside her daughter in an apparent murder-suicide carried out by her husband, a retired police sergeant, according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities have identified the deceased as Ann Mannix, 65, a former SWAT commander, her 24-year-old daughter, Katie, and her husband, 68-year-old retired San Francisco Police Sgt. Kevin Mannix.

"The preliminary investigation indicates a suspected double-murder suicide involving three individuals," Miguel Almaguer, the Marin County Sheriff's public information officer, said in a statement. "The suspected shooter is male."

Speaking later at a news briefing, he specifically identified Kevin Mannix as the shooter and said he could not discuss any evidence found in the home.

Trump reportedly considering firing Guilfoyle after allegations of misconduct

President Donald Trump is weighing whether to dismiss Kimberly Guilfoyle from her position as US ambassador to Greece after a string of reports about misconduct, a person familiar with the matter said Sunday.

Trump has been monitoring reports claiming Guilfoyle, who was engaged to Trump’s eldest son Donald Trump Jr. for four years, accepted lavish gifts as ambassador and sought money in exchange for providing access to administration figures before she was confirmed.

Lawyers for Guilfoyle have denied the allegations about seeking money and said reports about her travel were misleading, adding that she complied with federal gift and reporting requirements.

The State Department’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is investigating Guilfoyle amid the misconduct allegations, a source familiar with the effort told CNN Monday.

The OIG’s press office did not respond to a request for comment. The office does not typically comment on ongoing investigations.

“As a matter of policy, OIG does not confirm, deny, or comment on investigative matters,” a State OIG spokesperson told CNN last week.

The reports about Guilfoyle have irked senior administration officials, particularly since they emerged when Secretary of State Marco Rubio was visiting Athens for a high-profile speech on Western democracy delivered from the Acropolis.

Trump is expected to decide soon whether to fire Guilfoyle, the person said. The president offered no defense of Guilfoyle when questioned by CNN about the allegations Friday.

“I just heard about it. Too bad. I mean, I don’t know,” Trump said. “I just heard a little bit about it. I don’t know too much, but she was always very nice.”

CNN has reached out to the White House for comment.

Eric Deters, a former Trump donor, said Guilfoyle asked him in a text message to wire her $100,000 to pay off an American Express card in the days before her Senate confirmation. Deters ultimately did not wire Guilfoyle the money, saying he didn’t have the liquid assets at the time.

The messages were first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Lawyers for the ambassador said in a statement provided to CNN that Deters owed Guilfoyle money for speeches and consulting work and called his statements false.

“When Ms. Guilfoyle was preparing to leave private life for public service, she did what any professional does and tried to close out her outstanding receivables. Asking a client to pay for work already done is not corruption. It is the opposite of corruption,” her lawyers wrote.

Guilfoyle also denied to administration officials last week that she sent the messages, the person familiar said.

Guilfoyle has remained close to the Trump family. After her breakup with Donald Trump Jr., she received the plum assignment in Greece.

Allies of the president and his son told CNN they felt the episode is embarrassing, though it’s not clear whether there will be consequences for Guilfoyle. Trump has repeatedly made clear he is not happy when allies profit off of their relationship with him.

On Monday, Deters told CNN he had not been contacted by the inspector general’s office but said he had reached out to White House chief of staff Susie Wiles to say he plans to sue Guilfoyle for defamation, after her lawyers disputed the authenticity of messages that she allegedly sent him. He did not get a response, he said.

“This problem is not getting any better for them,” Deters told CNN of the Trump administration. “I am going to sue her and her lawyers for defamation for claiming that her text messages were fake. Then they will have a lawsuit, she will have the committees looking at her, and the news media.”

CNN asked the White House for comment on Deters’ plans to sue.

Vice President JD Vance on Friday withheld judgment on whether there should be consequences for Guilfoyle, saying he refused to “try people in the court of public opinion.”

But the vice president said, in general, he was uncomfortable with access-for-pay schemes. “Of course I don’t like anybody selling access to another government official, certainly a high-level government official,” he said.

“Let’s see what the truth is. And obviously, if there was something bad that happened, then people have to suffer consequences for it,” he said.

In a recent post on X about the development, Terry Schilling, president of the American Principles Project wrote, "Amazing what happens when you cut the Department of Education and USAID."

The available data also does not explain why such a political transition would affect certain age groups differently, according to The Washington Post.

A survivor of the 2009 Fort Hood massacre says she wishes the mass shooter could be killed one time for every life he took that day – but even she is questioning the military's decision to livestream his death.

Nidal Hasan, 56, is scheduled to face execution by firing squad on Dec. 3, 2026, and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced earlier this month that it will be made available to stream to the public.

"Why would people want to see that?" Julia Wilson, a former Defense Department civilian employee who survived the shooting 17 years ago, told Fox News Digital.

Wilson wants the mass shooter executed, and, as a victim, she wants to attend his execution and look him in the eye.

Hasan, an Army psychiatrist at the time, walked into a soldier readiness center on Nov, 5, 2009, on the Texas Army post and opened fire, killing 13 people and wounding 32 others. Following a military court-martial verdict, Hasan was sentenced to death on Aug. 28, 2013.

On Oct. 2, President Donald Trump approved the death sentence, and days later Hegseth announced it would be by a public firing squad.

"Personally, I do want to be there," Wilson told Fox News Digital. "I do want to look him in the eye to let him know, ‘Look, I may have been your victim that day, but I'm not your victim anymore. I survived you. My child survived you, a lot of us survived you. You didn't do as much damage as you thought you were going to.'"

"You did what you did," Wilson continued of Hasan's attack. "Too bad we can't kill you 13 times over."

But Wilson has reservations about the decision to broadcast Hasan's execution to the public.

"I'm kind of shocked that they're going to go so far as to televise it," Wilson said. "I don't really know how to feel about that."

She fears broadcasting his death could pose a risk of exposing children to the kind of violence she has spent nearly 17 years trying to forget.

"Unfortunately, some children may end up seeing that, that don't need to see something like that," Wilson said. "Seeing my soldiers murdered that day, that was the first time I've ever seen anything like that. And I can never wash it out of my mind."

"I don't know why anybody would want to actually see something like that happen."

Wilson's concerns echo objections raised by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.

"Hasan should face the death penalty, but making his execution public and streaming it? Beyond disgusting," Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., posted to X on Thursday. "Public executions are what oppressive dictatorships like Iran and Afghanistan do. It should not be happening in America."

Trump said Saturday that he will make the decision of whether or not to livestream Hasan’s execution, acknowledging that he knows "what the military would like to do" following Hegseth’s confirmation.

Vice President J.D. Vance also said Friday that he was not sure that the federal government will be livestreaming the execution, also adding that he would not personally view the livestream.

"As far as the execution, I have a lot of mixed feelings on it, to be quite honest," Wilson said. "Yes, I'm glad that it's moving forward. No, I…don't ever want to see another human being die."

"But in the same fold, an eye for an eye."

Wilson was working at Fort Hood's Soldier Readiness Processing Center when Hasan opened fire. At the time, she was nine months pregnant and had reached her due date.

She recalled the moment when she first saw soldiers down and heard the gunfire after pulling into the parking lot upon returning to the center from a lunch break with her mom.

"Before I got the chance to shut off my engine and really get out of the vehicle, that's when the gunfire started," Wilson said. "I had several things go through my mind. You know, they say that you have fight, flight or freeze. I kind of had all three. "

She recounted the chaos during the shooting after going into the center building for the first time since taking cover in her car, which she says her supervisor advised her to do.

"Eventually he came back for me and I figured, ‘Okay, maybe… I'm a little bit out of the chaos.’ No, absolutely not," Wilson said.

She continued, "I get into my building. Desks are tossed everywhere. It's a total wreck. There's blood on the wall, blood on the floor, people working on people. And I just kind of locked up."

Wilson said that Hasan receiving the death penalty will still not bring full justice to the victims of the tragedy.

She called out the federal government for classifying the shooting as "workplace violence," urging the shooting to be reclassified as an act of domestic terrorism.

"We've been betrayed by the government for 17 years," Wilson said. "They left this as workplace violence. They never declared it domestic terrorism because it was all about, ‘Hey, we need to be politically correct and watch out for his rights.’ Well, what about my rights? And what about me? And what about my family? And what about those that were murdered? And what about those that were injured?"

Wilson has written a letter to Trump calling for the reclassification of the shooting to be recognized as domestic terrorism.

"It's time for healing, Wilson said. "And that healing can not start until the situation is fully rectified, until there's full justice."

A Texas hiker has been found dead three days after going missing in Tennessee's Great Smoky Mountains, with his family believing he drowned after becoming caught in powerful hydraulic currents near a waterfall.

Sahil Jilani, a 24-year-old resident of Houston, died after disappearing on Oct. 5 — the same day that left his mother with an "overwhelming feeling that something was terribly wrong." His family announced the tragedy through an online fundraiser.

"It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we share the sudden, heartbreaking loss of our beloved brother, Sahil Jilani, and the hospitalization of our mother after learning she had lost her precious son, our little angel and most beautiful gift," the fundraiser stated.

Loved ones grew concerned when Jilani failed to check in for several hours and his location-sharing stopped in an area with no cell service.

"But as the hours passed, our fear grew, and we continued requesting help. Sahil knew how much his silence and unavailable location would worry us."

An official cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

"Swimming and tubing are not recommended," the NPS stated. "Additionally, never try to climb to the top of a waterfall. The rocks are coated with slippery algae, and several hikers have fallen and been seriously injured or killed."

Dre Greenlaw lowered his helmeted head and headbutted Ernest Jones, sending the Seattle Seahawks linebacker looking for a towel to wipe away the blood on Sunday. And less than 24 hours later, the NFL dropped the proverbial hammer on Greenlaw.

Greenlaw, a San Francisco 49ers linebacker, has been suspended for one game, the NFL announced Monday.

The suspension is without pay.

Greenlaw may appeal the suspension under the collective bargaining agreement but there is not yet any indication if he will do that. If he goes that route, the appeal would be heard by a hearing officer – either Derrick Brooks, Jordy Nelson, Ron Rivera or James Thrash.

Judge calls DOJ's defense of abrupt tree removal at D.C. golf course 'inexcusable'

WASHINGTON, Oct 12 (Reuters) - A US judge said on Monday that she was "furious" with Justice Department lawyers for their conduct in a lawsuit seeking to halt the Trump administration’s takeover of a historic golf course in Washington, saying it was "inexcusable" that hundreds of trees ‌were removed from the course over the weekend.

"More than being upset and furious right now, I am just deeply disappointed in the government," US ‌District Judge Ana Reyes in Washington told government lawyers during a court hearing. "On what universe did anyone in your office think this was acceptable?"

Reyes, who was appointed by Democratic President Joe Biden, said the abrupt removal of about 500 trees at East Potomac Golf Links, which began on Friday afternoon, was unacceptable because in May she had demanded that the government provide advance notice of any substantive construction work at the golf course.

The judge issued a temporary order blocking further tree removal and said any defiance of that order would result in proceedings to determine if government officials should be held in contempt of court.

The Justice Department's failure to notify the preservationist group that filed the lawsuit over the tree removal work "has ‌cost the government all of its credibility" in the case, ⁠the judge said.

Reyes said she regretted that she had not put in writing her remarks in May that notice be given of any substantive construction work on the golf course. The judge said the lack of a prior written order was why she ⁠had not yet moved forward with contempt proceedings, which begin with a ruling known as a show cause order.

"The only reason I have not yet entered a show cause on contempt is because I never put this in a formal order, which, believe me, now I am regretting," the judge said.

'YOU DID YOUR ABSOLUTE WORST'

Justice Department lawyer Marissa Piropato said during the hearing that government attorneys had done their best to gather details on tree removal so they could share them in a court filing.

"You did not do ‌your best," Reyes replied. "You did your absolute worst."

Since taking office in January 2025, US President Donald Trump has targeted US cultural and historical institutions — from museums and monuments to national parks and arts centers — in an attempt to reshape them.

The president announced plans last year to overhaul East Potomac Golf Links, a century-old public golf course owned by the federal government and managed by the National Park Service, part of the Interior Department.

Trump, a frequent golfer who owns several courses, has said he hopes the renovation will allow the course to host major tournaments.

The DC Preservation League said in a February 2026 lawsuit that Trump was flouting environmental laws to "irreparably destroy a ‌priceless piece of American history" so he could "convert a public recreation space into an exclusive, high-end golf course."

Reyes told Trump administration lawyers at a May hearing that there would be "serious consequences" if major construction work began without prior court notification.

In an October 9 court filing, the Trump administration asked Reyes to dismiss the litigation, saying it was premature because the "proposed project remains at an early and ‌conceptual stage."

Lawyers for the DC Preservation League asked Reyes on Sunday to issue an emergency order blocking further tree removal at the course and requiring notice of any other irreparable modifications, saying that despite her May remarks more than 500 trees were removed on Saturday.

Reyes issued a temporary order on Sunday that paused any tree removal until Tuesday morning, and indicated during Monday's hearing that she intended to extend the block until she can hear testimony from Gregory ‌Wischer, a deputy chief of staff at the US Interior Department.

Kevin Griess, a National Park Service official, said at Monday's hearing that tree removal was intended to improve safety at the park and restore its original design, and was part of a 2019 plan that predates Trump's ambitions for the course.

Shark attack survivor says as he was trying to poke its eye, the shark winked at him, then bit his leg off

An Australian surfer came face-to-face with a shark last month while surfing alone at Glenfield Beach on the coast of Western Australia. He says that before biting his leg off, the shark "winked" at him.

Mel Ismail, a 56-year-old father, was rescued by another surfer who just happened to show up at the beach and was willing to risk his own life by grabbing his board and heading towards the bloody water.

Following the attack, Dr. Mary Pinder, the head of the ICU, said: "This person remains in a stable condition; however, he has sustained serious injuries and faces a long recovery."

That was weeks ago. Ismail is now talking about how one minute he was watching a pod of dolphins and the next he was looking into the eye of a shark that had slammed into him.

"I thought I got hit by a dolphin, initially, because there were so many of them," Ismail told Australian ABC News. "No, it wasn't, Something grabbed me and dragged me down into the water. And I knew it was a shark."

After dragging him under the water, he says he was face-to-face with the shark and looked it in the eye.

What happened next left him missing his right leg below the knee.

"I personally reckon it gave me the wink, and then shut my leg off, and I knew it had taken my leg," Ismail said of the shark attack.

From there, he tried to remain calm. His goal was to survive. Which he did, even though he lost part of his leg, with the help of the other surfer who showed up at the right time.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani accused Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of operating as a "rogue federal agency" and treating the law as "merely a suggestion" during a Sunday interview, days after a federal immigration officer fired seven shots at a man in Manhattan while his 5-year-old son was inside the vehicle.

Mamdani, speaking to MS NOW host Jacob Soboroff in his first interview since Thursday's shooting of 28-year-old Oscar Belgal, accused ICE agents of repeatedly disregarding the law and questioned whether New Yorkers could distinguish federal officers from dangerous attackers.

"We follow the law in New York City and I know that to the secretary, the law is merely a suggestion when it comes to the actions of these ICE agents," Mamdani said. "They are making a mockery of what law and order is."

"ICE enforces the law as written. What makes someone a target for immigration enforcement is whether or not they are illegally in the U.S. — full stop," a DHS spokesperson said. "Mayor Mamdani should be thanking our law enforcement for removing these dangerous criminals from his city — NOT vilifying law enforcement."

"Attacks and demonization of ICE law enforcement is wrong," the statement continued. "Because of smears like this our ICE officers are now facing a 1,600% increase in assaults against them as they put their lives on the line to arrest murderers, rapists, pedophiles, gang members, and terrorists."

Mamdani argued that ICE's operations were making New Yorkers less safe and calling for the agency's elimination.

"What we see from their actions is an agency that terrorizes, one that creates a sense of fear as opposed to any idea of safety. And I made it very clear that the longer that ICE agents were engaging in their operations in the city, the less safe this city was becoming," Mamdani said.

The shooting occurred Thursday afternoon in the Marble Hill neighborhood, where ICE agents attempted to apprehend Belgal, a Dominican national whom DHS said had a prior grand larceny conviction and previous arrests involving assault, robbery, drugs and weapons.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at least one federal immigration officer fired seven rounds, striking Belgal in the neck below his left ear. His 5-year-old son, who was sitting inside the vehicle, was unharmed.

Mamdani said he spoke with President Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin for nearly two hours Thursday evening in an unsuccessful effort to secure Belgal's release. He expressed frustration with the secretary's assessment of the shooting.

"What struck me is the secretary did not think that ICE agents had done anything wrong," Mamdani said. "I am demanding that ICE cease their operations in our city immediately, because these operations make New Yorkers less safe. They leave New Yorkers in a state of terror."

The NYPD, which was not involved in the shooting, released body camera footage showing officers responding to the scene after the shooting. The FBI and Homeland Security Investigations are investigating the incident.

Mullin criticized Mamdani's anti-ICE rhetoric during a Friday news conference, accusing the mayor of inciting hostility toward federal immigration officers while refusing to support their enforcement efforts.

"His words are dangerous and incite hostility. It doesn't help," Mullin said. "He said that ICE is rotten to the core. Really? Men and women at ICE each day are enforcing the laws that he refuses to enforce. He said he wants to abolish ICE. Well, Mayor, if you abolish ICE, who's going to take the criminals off the streets of your own town?"

DHS told Fox News Digital that nearly 7,000 criminal illegal immigrants had been released from New York jurisdictions under sanctuary policies. The department said the Trump administration's immigration crackdown had resulted in more than 3 million illegal immigrants leaving the United States, including an estimated 2.2 million self-deportations.

Maher took swipes at Emanuel's client Larry David, who previously lambasted the HBO host for his White House dinner last year, while ignoring his agent's relationship with Trump.

"It's so interesting to me that Larry David, like, I'm the devil because I talk to him, but his own agent just talked to him on Monday," Maher laughed as Emanuel attempted to avoid weighing in. "You must recognize the hypocrisy there. Somehow, when it's his own agent doing the exact same thing, this is, then we don't play the Hitler card."

The podcast episode was released Monday but it is unclear whether the dinner has already happened. Neither the White House nor Maher's representatives responded to requests for comment.

Maher and Trump had been public foes for more than a decade until their mutual friend Kid Rock brokered a meeting between the two of them, which resulted in a dinner at the White House. He said during a monologue that Trump was more gracious and good-humored than he expected.

He also credited Trump for being "much more self-aware than he lets on in public," revealing the subject of the 2020 election came up during his tour of the White House and that he "didn't get mad" about how Maher brought up Trump's rare admission that he had lost.

"Look, I get it. It doesn't matter who he is at a private dinner with a comedian. It matters who he is on the world stage. I'm just taking as a positive that this person exists. "I never felt I had to walk on eggshells around him," he told his audience. "And honestly, I voted for Clinton and Obama, but I would never feel comfortable talking to them the way I was able to talk with Donald Trump. That's just how it went down. Make of it what you will. Me? I feel it's emblematic of why the Democrats are so unpopular these days."

Their relationship appears to be in decent shape behind the scenes despite the public feuding since the dinner. Earlier this year, Maher received the Mark Twain Prize from the Kennedy Center, which Trump oversees as its chairman, and it's been reported that the White House attempted to block Maher from the award. Trump has also repeatedly attacked Maher's "low ratings" on Truth Social in recent months.

Judge Judy Sheindlin recently announced that she’s "rewiring" and letting son Adam Levy take the reins of TV courtroom drama, but she has plenty of other projects to keep her busy. The Her Honor Mentoring program she helped co-found just celebrated its 20-year anniversary.

Sheindlin founded the program with her daughter Nicole Sheindlin to empower young women through mentorship and professional development. For the past two decades, Her Honor Mentoring has welcomed approximately 2,500 participants; 1,500 mentees, selected from 31 high schools across the region, and more than 1,000 mentors from 400 organizations and businesses.

"I’m so happy to be here 20 years after our freshman year," Sheindlin told Fox News Digital.

The project, she said, "started off with a dream" and all they could do was hope it was successful. The first class held only eight or nine women, whereas the most recent class in September saw over 100.

The project, she said, is "simple, but satisfying." And she's been impressed and inspired by the young participants' drive to succeed.

I’ve been around so much adult dysfunction and juvenile dysfunction, that to see young people still hoping and dreaming, wanting to work hard to realize their dream that their journey on this Earth is positive and fulfilling, makes you feel good. It sort of renews your faith that probably the vast majority of people are like these young women. That they want their lives to be productive and happy and fulfilling."

Several of the former mentees have come back as mentors after starting their careers.

"We’re teaching them to give back," she said. "We’re teaching these young women the importance of being not only for themselves. But then once you’ve realized that, to supporting others with your time and your talent… they have a drive, they want to be their own engines. They want to be the engine that pulls their own train."

Nicole, the current CEO of Her Honor Mentoring, said the program started as a reflection of her relationship with Judge Judy. She went to the same law school as her stepmother and sat on the bench with her when she was a judge in family court. Nicole called it the perfect model for the program, saying, "The power and the impact of having a professional woman, a strong woman be a mentor, be a guide, be a supporter."

The mother-daughter duo concluded they should empower young women together to help women gain some extra skills and expand their professional network.

"We’ve come to learn how much the mentors have grown and are inspired," Nicole told Fox Digital. "They’ve discovered that giving back empowers their own personal wellbeing."

The program connects mentees with mentors across several industries. During 20 weekly meetings throughout the academic year, mentoring teams explore topics related to education, career and financial literacy.

In addition, as part of the Her Honor experience, mentees complete four electives. The offerings include field trips, digital courses and creative projects.

Mendoza was the first generation female to go to college in her family and a 2016 Her Honor mentee. She said the program helped her combat her shyness, gain people skills and find her voice. She added that it gave her specific guidance that has made an impact on her career as a police officer in the Mamaroneck Police Department.

"Throughout my mentorship, I learned to have a lot of empathy for people and understand how people are, and I think that was a big part, because I also have a lot of empathy for people," she told Fox Digital.

On Oct. 5, he announced he swam the English Channel, from France to England. While resting in Dover, he said, "I’m staring at the Union Jack flying outside this hotel. I’ve seen many flags over the days, but that one is special."

On social media he shared one of his first meals back, overjoyed to have authentic British fish and chips again.

He walked north to the United States, waiting for the Bering Strait to freeze to cross from Alaska into Russia. In April 2012, Russia denied his next visa, pausing his expedition. So he started walking in the wrong direction, in protest, to the Russian Embassy in Washington, D.C. The ban was overturned and he carried on with his journey. From Russia he entered Mongolia, China, and swam the Caspian Sea from Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan.

Then it was on to Europe.

"You’ll find that you are way more capable than you think you are, people always underestimate themselves. The world always looks bigger and scarier than it actually is," Bushby said.

Bushby has roughly 240 miles left to walk. He covered more than 30,000 miles, across 29 countries. "We went at a reasonable pace, we did what we needed to do and it has worked. I know it’s time to stop, I know that much because I feel that in the knees and ankles."

Pentagon data breach exposes records of over 3M people

You can change a password after a breach. You can cancel a credit card. But when your Social Security number gets exposed, you could be dealing with the fallout for years. That is the concern after a major breach involving the Pentagon's Defense Manpower Data Center. If you have served in the military, worked for the Department of War or have other ties to the military community, your information could be among the records involved.

A War Department official told CyberGuy that 2.76 million living individuals and 294,000 deceased individuals were affected. Depending on the person, the exposed information can include Social Security numbers, names, dates of birth, contact information and military personnel details. So, if a breach letter from the Pentagon shows up in your mailbox, don't toss it aside. Here's what happened, what may have been exposed and what you can do to protect yourself.

The breach involved the Defense Manpower Data Center, or DMDC. A War Department official told CyberGuy that a DMDC information system experienced unauthorized access to personally identifiable information by a small number of unauthorized users between October 2025 and July 2026. The official said DMDC immediately remediated the vulnerability after discovering it. At this time, the department says it has no indication that the accessed information has been misused.

The files accessed contained unencrypted personally identifiable information. That created a potentially long exposure window before the vulnerability was discovered. Personal information such as a Social Security number can remain useful to criminals long after the original breach fades from the headlines.

The specific information varies depending on the person. According to the Pentagon, exposed records can include:

The military details make this breach particularly sensitive because the records may reveal more than basic identity information. DMDC plays a major role behind the scenes at the Department of Defense. It maintains more than 60 million records covering military personnel, civilian employees, contractors, family members, retirees and veterans. The agency uses those records to support benefits, identity verification and other Defense Department programs. In other words, plenty of people who left active military service years ago may still have information stored in these systems.

People whose personal information was accessed are being notified by postal mail through the Department's contracted provider, Identity Theft Guard Solutions, or IDX. If you receive a notice, read it carefully rather than assuming it is another piece of junk mail. The letter should explain what information tied to you was affected and what protection is being offered.

According to the War Department official, IDX is providing notification, credit monitoring and identity restoration support based on the data elements affected for each individual. Anyone with questions can visit response.idx.us/DMDC or call 1-855-744-4556.

Be careful with unexpected emails or text messages claiming to be connected to the breach. Scammers can use major security incidents as an excuse to send fake notices or links designed to steal even more information. Instead of clicking a link in an unexpected message, verify the information using the official IDX contact details or the postal notice you received.

WHY SCAMMERS TARGET VETERANS AND HOW TO FIGHT BACK

A credit card number has an expiration date. Your Social Security number usually stays with you for life. That can give criminals plenty of time to combine stolen information from one breach with information collected elsewhere. Someone might already have your phone number or an old email address. Adding a Social Security number and date of birth can make a stolen identity far more useful.

A criminal could try to open credit in your name or use the information in a convincing phishing attack. Other forms of identity fraud may never involve your credit report at all. That is why I would treat a breach involving an SSN differently from one exposing an email address or password.

A breach notice can leave you wondering where to start, so focus first on the protections that can limit what someone does with the information.

If DMDC sent you an official notification, review the identity protection services available to you. Eligible individuals may receive 12 months of free credit monitoring and identity restoration support through IDX, depending on the information affected. Credit monitoring can warn you about certain changes to your credit file. However, monitoring usually alerts you after activity occurs. It does not stop someone from attempting to use your identity.

If you were not contacted by DMDC, or if you want protection that continues beyond the free 12-month period, you may also want to consider a broader identity theft protection service. Depending on the service, it may monitor for suspicious use of your personal information and provide help if identity theft occurs. Consider placing a credit freeze with Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. A freeze restricts access to your credit file, which can make it harder for someone to open a new credit account in your name. You can temporarily lift the freeze when you legitimately need to apply for credit. A freeze remains one of the strongest free steps you can take after your Social Security number has been exposed. Keep in mind that a freeze focuses on new credit. It cannot stop every type of identity theft, including fraud involving an existing account.

If you do not want to freeze your credit, you can place a fraud alert on your credit reports. A fraud alert tells lenders to take extra steps to verify your identity before opening new credit. You only need to contact one of the three major credit bureaus, and that bureau should notify the other two. A fraud alert offers less protection than a freeze, but it can still add another layer of scrutiny.

Review your bank and credit card activity regularly. Also pay attention to unexpected changes involving accounts that use your identity. Turn on transaction alerts where available. Quick warnings can help you spot activity before it grows into a bigger problem.

Scammers pay attention to major data breaches too. You could receive a call, email or text from someone claiming to represent the Defense Department, a credit monitoring company or another organization offering to help you secure your identity.

Do not hand over a Social Security number, password or verification code because someone contacts you unexpectedly. Also avoid opening attachments or clicking links in unexpected breach-related messages.

Strong antivirus software can help detect malicious downloads, suspicious links and other threats that may show up in follow-up scams. Keep your security software updated and verify unexpected requests using official contact information you find yourself. Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA) for your email, financial accounts and other important services whenever it is available. Your email account deserves special attention because criminals can use it to reset passwords for other accounts. An authenticator app or passkey can offer stronger protection than relying only on a password.

If your Social Security number was exposed, consider getting an IRS Identity Protection PIN. An IP PIN is a six-digit number that helps prevent someone else from filing a federal tax return using your Social Security number. The IRS issues a new PIN each year. This can be especially useful after a breach because tax-related identity theft may not show up on a credit report.

One year of free monitoring is useful, but stolen personal information does not become harmless when that year expires. Continue checking your credit reports and financial accounts. Also pay attention to unexpected tax notices, benefit claims or bills that you do not recognize. We have previously explained why a credit freeze alone does not stop every form of identity theft. A stolen Social Security number can potentially be misused in ways that never trigger a traditional credit check.

What stands out to me here is how long the information involved can remain valuable. A password can be replaced in a few minutes, but a Social Security number, birth date or military history can follow you for decades. If you receive one of these Pentagon breach notices, I would take it seriously even though officials say they have not seen evidence of misuse. Use the free monitoring being offered and consider freezing your credit. Then keep an eye on your accounts after that free monitoring period ends. We hand organizations an enormous amount of personal information because we often have no practical alternative. When that information gets exposed, the burden of watching for fraud suddenly falls back on us.

Selma Blair was arrested Sunday after allegedly attacking crew members on board a Delta flight into New York City.

"On Sunday October 11 at approximately 11pm at JFK Airport, PAPD responded to a call about a physically abusive passenger aboard Delta Airlines flight 938 which was parked at the gate after arrival from LAX," New York Port Authority officials confirmed to Fox News Digital.

"Suspect was identified as Selma Blair, a 54-year-old woman. She was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for evaluation."

A rep for Blair told TMZ, "Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition."

Officials confirmed two flight attendants also reported injuries, and one was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

"Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first," Delta said in a statement.

Additionally, there was no operational impact to the flight as it landed ahead of schedule at JFK, Delta said.

Blair's representatives did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Five weeks into the NFL season, we can officially write off four teams. By "write off," we mean teams that are going nowhere. Their fans should be more concerned with draft position than anything their teams might accomplish this season.

We understand how demoralizing it is to concede a season before mid-October. It is, nonetheless, the reality for certain franchises.

Let's start with two teams that aren't tanking, per se, but weren't exactly built to contend this season. The Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals are about as bad as expected, despite the latter managing an early-season win.

The positive is that both teams have stockpiled young talent while positioning themselves for a high draft pick. Miami's rookie class is impressive, including Kadyn Proctor, Chris Johnson, Jacob Rodriguez, Caleb Douglas, and Chris Bell. Arizona has the best tight end in football in Trey McBride, while Jeremiah Love, albeit injured, has generational upside.

Unfortunately, the 2027 quarterback class doesn't appear nearly as promising as anticipated. Arch Manning, to this point, hardly resembles the prospect analysts projected him to become.

Elsewhere, the Tennessee Titans might be worse than both the Dolphins and Cardinals. That's particularly concerning because Tennessee spent the offseason actively trying to improve its roster and coaching staff.

Through Week 5, the Titans rank last in the NFL in both scoring and total offense, averaging just 11.6 points and 246.4 yards per game.

The winless Titans shouldn't be expected to win many games this season.

After five weeks, we can also write off the Los Angeles Chargers, who entered the season with nearly the same Super Bowl odds as the Kansas City Chiefs. A team coached by Jim Harbaugh and quarterbacked by Justin Herbert should not be this inept. And yet, they are.

At 0-5, with games remaining against the Rams, Ravens, Chiefs twice, 49ers, and Patriots, it's difficult to find many wins left on the schedule.

A midseason parting with offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel now seems more plausible than a late-season surge toward the playoffs. The Chargers' season, at least in terms of meaningful aspirations, is over.

Based strictly on their play, the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers should join this list. Both teams have won just one game and have deficiencies on both sides of the ball. Despite relatively high expectations entering the season, the Saints have a minus-33 point differential.

Neither team figures to be much of a factor in the postseason, if it gets there at all. However, both remain just one game out of first place in the perpetually mediocre NFC South.

Likewise, the 1-3-1 Washington Commanders remain viable playoff threats largely because of the lackluster state of the rest of the NFC East.

Granted, it's hard to take seriously a team that did that in overtime on Sunday

The 2-3 New York Jets are the final team worth discussing. As WWE commentator Michael Cole told OutKick last week, the Jets remain poorly coached and overmatched in the trenches. In all likelihood, they are probably a bottom-10 team in the NFL–again.

But we can't, in good faith, write off a team that sits just one game behind the Patriots and Bills, who play the Rams on Monday night, in the AFC East.

We suspect the Jets will join this list by the end of October. For now, however, they've played well enough — including competitive games against the Lions and Packers — to keep the light on for a few more weeks.

So, through Week 5, the Dolphins, Cardinals, Titans, and Chargers are the only four teams we're officially declaring "season over."

The rest of the fan bases should at least have hope, even for just a short while longer.

Judge Ana Reyes unleashed her latest rebuke during an emergency hearing over hundreds of trees removed from East Potomac Golf Links in Hains Point, D.C. Trump wants to transform the historic public facility into a championship-caliber golf course like his courses in the U.S., Ireland and Scotland – the latest courtroom collision between the administration and its political opponents.

Journalist Scott MacFarlane, who live-tweeted from the hearing, described Reyes as "scream[ing]" at administration attorneys over the government's late-Friday notification that tree removal would begin Saturday. A government lawyer acknowledged that approximately 430 trees had already been cut down, according to MacFarlane.

"At 4:55pm on a Friday of a holiday weekend, the plaintiffs and I get [little] notice that hundreds of trees are going to be chopped down," Reyes reportedly fumed at the government, according to MacFarlane.

The uproar comes as preservationists and progressive interests challenge the administration, including former Obama ethics lawyer Norm Eisen — who has engineered a "broad legal resistance" to the president through his group Democracy Defenders Fund, according to its mission statement.

Eisen tweeted a victory lap Monday after the court agreed to hear the case in an "emergency’ setting.

America’s most rat-infested cities ranked as Midwest surprise cracks top 10

A national pest control company has released its annual list of the top 10 most rodent-infested cities in the U.S. — and one Midwest city has now joined the list for the first time.

The list is based on rodent control service data from more than 300 Terminix branches nationwide in 2025, ranking cities where residents most frequently used the company's services.

While New York and Los Angeles held onto the top two spots, Philadelphia moved up one spot to No. 3.

The top 10 list included returning cities like Houston, Chicago and Washington, D.C. — as well as Boston and Dallas.

There was also a new entrant in the top 10 this year.

For the first time, Detroit cracked the top 10, moving up one spot from No. 11.

Rodent infestations have previously raised concerns among Detroit residents.

In a 2023 memorandum obtained by Fox News Digital, Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield, who was then serving as the city council president, said residents complained about rodent infestations during a community meeting.

"In a recent community meeting that I held, rodent infestations were a main complaint among our residents," Sheffield said at the time.

"[Residents] shared that many demolition properties become homes for rat infestation."

Fox News Digital reached out to Sheffield's office for comment.

Following Detroit on the list were Hartford, Atlanta, Baltimore, Tampa and Sacramento, rounding out the top 15.

Terminix said all the cities on the list share three common factors: large populations, abundant food sources and plenty of places for rodents to hide.

"Together, these conditions give rats and mice the resources they need to survive and reproduce," said Terminix in a release. The Rentokil Terminix company is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee.

"Large populations generate significant amounts of food waste, while dumpsters, alleys, parks, and other urban spaces can give rodents easy access to food," the company added.

"Older buildings, subway systems, and sewer networks provide additional places to travel, hide, and nest."

Terminix also urged residents to take steps to prevent rodent infestations.

That includes sealing cracks and openings around doors, windows and foundations, storing food in airtight containers and keeping living spaces clean and free of crumbs and food residue.

"If you live in one of the most rat-infested cities, these steps can significantly help lower the risk of a rodent infestation," the company added.

Republican lawmakers break with Trump on diesel deal with Russia

President Donald Trump last week touted a diesel agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin, asserting that prices for the fuel would swiftly fall, but some Republicans have responded by rebuking the president's move.

"I have just concluded a highly successful discussion with President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, wherein it was agreed that Russia will immediately supply over 300,000 Tons of Diesel Fuel to the American and Global Marketplace, another 500,000 Tons during the month of November, and 1,000,000 Tons immediately thereafter. Additionally, based on the condition of their Diesel Refineries, Russia will then deliver, within a short period of time, 3,000,000 Tons of Diesel Fuel," Trump declared in an Oct. 9 Truth Social post.

"Between our TOTAL CONTROL of the Strait of Hormuz, and this great announcement on Russian Energy, Diesel Prices for Americans and, indeed, the World, will be COMING DOWN, IN RECORD NUMBERS, AND FAST! Lower prices for Americans, especially our Great Farmers, Ranchers, and Truckers, is my Greatest Priority. This is a very big and important announcement. Additionally, it must be understood, that Iran will not have a Nuclear Weapon!" Trump declared.

The announcement sparked blowback from some Republicans, including outgoing Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska, who declared in a post on X that Trump's "policies towards Russia and Ukraine are failures."

It will be called the 'Ronald Reagan Peace Through Strength Act.' It will be forced to the Floor via discharge and it will pass overwhelmingly."

Bacon shared Fitzpatrick's post and noted, "I’ve already agreed to be an original cosponsor. Congress must make a stand."

A bipartisan group of senators — including Democratic Sens. Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Ron Wyden of Oregon, as well as GOP Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Thom Tillis of North Carolina and John Curtis of Utah — joined together in a statement pressing the administration to "reverse course."

"Congress explicitly banned Russian energy imports in 2022 to prevent American dollars from financing Putin’s brutal war against Ukraine. Congress was clear: The U.S. should not import oil from Russia until it ends its aggression against Ukraine and ceases threats against our NATO Allies," the statement declares.

"President Trump’s decision to allow Russian diesel imports to the U.S. runs directly counter to that law. The United States should not provide Putin with a financial lifeline while Russia continues to kill Ukrainian civilians. The Administration must immediately reverse course," the statement adds.

Tillis, an outgoing senator who is not seeking re-election, is the author of the recently released book, "How to Lose Friends and Antagonize Presidents." Shaheen is also not seeking another term.

Former U.S. Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette explained during a Monday appearance on FOX Business that he does not expect the agreement to cause the price of diesel to decline significantly.

He said that he believes "it's important for Americans to realize that ... we may not be talking about brand new barrels to the marketplace. So, if there's an expectation that prices are gonna come down dramatically as a result of this agreement, I'm a bit skeptical of that."

Against Denver, they were up 16-0 at halftime, and the defense just couldn’t get a stop when needed in the second half, giving up 30 points. Against the Eagles, they were down 20-10, but two fourth-quarter touchdowns gave them the win.
