They’ve been playing this song - Saints, by ArmyNavy - on (you guessed it!) SiriusXMU, the only radio station I’ve listened to in the last year. Super catchy, and pretty great lyrics.

Girls, take heed: Saints are overrated.

In honor of tonight’s Band of Horses concert, I give you...

In honor of tonight’s Band of Horses concert, I give you the song that still makes me weak at the knees, makes me smile, and makes me think of my best guy friend and the way he found the need to make up a ‘new clap’ for this band. “No One’s Gonna Love You” may sound like a pretty negative song, but listen…it’s the exact opposite.

Something about this song - Fog, by Mason Proper - is...

Something about this song - Fog, by Mason Proper - is reminiscent of TV on the Radio. It’s not really reflective of Mason Proper’s entire album Olly Oxen Free, but I keep returning to this song. It has a few dashes of Cold War Kids thrown in too for good nature.
Sigh. Life gets ahead of me.

Anyhoo, here’s ‘1901’, the first song off of Phoenix’s forthcoming new album (awesomely entitled Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix - I mean, RIGHT? How rockstar-rad is that?) and I can’t get enough of it. Like, it motivates my soul. And world. This song - Rich Doors - is well-aligned to be my new fave. Oh, and their only show is Friday, Jan 23rd at Bottom of the Hill. I suppose there’s a metaphysical reason for this - maybe I wasn’t ready for it earlier and found it when I needed it most - but I still feel jilted by missing the breathtaking songs that calm and soothe and help to heal even the most jagged wounds. “Re: Stacks” is the one I’m finding myself playing the most these days, or is at least in constant rotation with “Blood Bank”, the song off of his forthcoming EP. Because we forget - it’s all too easy to forget. In doing so, I’ve found that a few of the songs that moved me the most - or that I adore the most - somehow didn’t make it on any of these lists…I clearly didn’t play them enough (at least in comparison to some of the other songs) or perhaps it was on a CD in my car. (Yes, I still have those.) ‘Skinny Love’ by Bon Iver is one of these songs, and is hands down one of the best songs on Justin Vernon’s epic album, “For Emma, Forever Ago.” It is also one of my favorite songs, ever.

Well, at least I’m consistent in my opinions.

Heard “Daylight” on XM last week - it’s a...

Heard “Daylight” on XM last week - it’s a pre-release from Matt & Kim’s upcoming album - and I’m slightly obsessed with this catchy song. They’re coming in March with Cut Copy and I think I may have to buy my tickets…NOW. In case you wonder what they’re saying, here’s the lyrics, courtesy of Matt himself.

Still not tired of this song.

Still not tired of this song.

“Rest even as you
Are starting to feel the way I used to,
I don’t need a better thing
(Just to sound confused)
Don’t talk about everyone,
I am not amused by you.”

Found myself playing ‘Unlabeled Mix CD Roulette’ in my car this weekend, and rediscovered my obsession with Pete Yorn. (Move over, Ryan Adams, my original crush has returned.) I could listen to “Lose You” on repeat for days on end…and I just may.

“If I’m gonna lose you
I’ll lose you now for good.”
