2011-03-02T10:26:00.000-06:00

Colby Bohannon

Has affirmative action finally caught up with us and bit us in the backside? Maybe so, if you look at this story about how a couple of students created a financial scholarship for white males only. The President of the Former Majority Association for Equality is offering scholarships to 5 qualifying individuals of $500 for assistance in their upkeep, books, tuition or other needs they may have.

What ever happened to the old days.

What ever happened to the good old days where things like what happened to Jimmy Stewart in "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington" could actually occur on the steps of our Capitol? For those of you too young to remember, Mr. Smith went to D.C. pushed his way to the floor of the chamber, made a speech, and then guess what...The Congressmen actually did what was good and right by the country everyone mended their ways and let our democratic system operate the way it should. Yeah, I know, because there's a happy ending in this one, it'll never work.

2011-02-27T13:03:00.000-06:00

We've posted on the issues that public union officials are having in a few of the states harder hit with deficits. And now, they have sent pink slips out to all 2,000 teachers in their school districts.

Freelancers Beware: Update On The New Twist To The Old Check Scam

2011-02-23T13:14:00.002-06:00

Now I have to make it up

Okay, I hope this isn't the very last post in my ongoing saga about the internet scam I have been fighting with over the last few weeks. I got the checks today...and boy do they look real. Real enough that an Arvest bank branch would have cashed them, according to their rep. I knew they were fakes, so I took them to a local branch of Ace check cashers, as I have a friend, Cheryl, that works there.

Low prices and old pumps, a thing of the past?

The extreme unrest in the Mid-east over the last few weeks has many economists and almost every American wondering what will happen at the pumps while all this is getting settled. Looking at the past few months the price has been increasing, little by little, but with all the dissension in the region, production is very likely to suffer...Along with the prices. Just A Common Man, Is He So Threatening

The famous, (infamous?) hacker George Hotz will be back in court on the Sony PS 3 hacking issue again. After the California judge ruled that Sony needed to proceed in a different manner, they consulted their battery of lawyers, and refiled the suit. The bad part is that they have a battery of lawyers that equals an entire artillery battalion...in lawyer terms, and George is like the rest of us, just a poor boy trying to make his way in the world.

We opened this website with an article about whether the President of the U.S. can "Turn off" the internet. Since I wrote that article a lot has happened in the Mid-East, and according to internet monitoring companies, this ploy is being used in other countries now, but with limited success. It seems that earlier this week, the internet traffic in the country of Bahrain is far less than the monitoring companies expected.

Will Collective Rights Solve Ohio's And Wisconsin's Deficit Woes

2011-02-20T08:08:00.000-06:00

Will Ohio Find This With The New Law?

I did a piece on the union trouble and the fight over the collective bargaining rights that seem to be at the center of everyone's concern. It looks like the fight is getting harder now, though. With both sides pointing fingers and touting the benefits of their union, or officials saying that the state just can't afford to keep things the way they are. And, really they are both right. Many states can't afford to throw the money down that the unions have leveraged for their members. But, the collective bargaining laws are what gives the unions the control they have, isn't it? And, probably more importantly, will the elimination of these collective bargaining rights solve the budgetary issues? Let's see.

Also, like every one of his other hacks, (as far as I know,) he made a program to install, and apply the hack, available on the internet for free. Then Sony sued.

State Deficit Decisions - Are Unions Making Themselves Obsolete

2011-02-18T08:32:00.001-06:00

There is no doubt that labor unions helped to create this country and make it what it is today. In the past history of the U.S. we find many socially benefiting movements, laws, and traditions that came from the institutions. They have shaped the lives of Americans for hundreds of years. But, the economic conditions the country faces right now places the question of the far reaching powers unions possess may become a hindrance or the U.S. recovery.

The state's Senate Minority Leader, Mark Miller, claims that he and his co-conspirators were trying to "allow opportunity for democracy to work." Interesting concept, these politicians taking the stand that many Americans wish they would in other cases, "Stop meddling in our lives!"
