What Makes Dermalogica's Skin Perfect Primer SPF 30 So Good?

There's a trend in skin primers, but the Dermalogica Skin Perfect Primer promises serious value for money as it has numerous benefits rolled into one!

Using the company's age Smart technology it ticks all of the boxes for those concerned with premature ageing of the skin.

How can the skin perfect primer SPF 30 help my skin?

Having already mentioned that it is beneficial as a cosmetic application, as well as a skin treatment, it can be referred to as a product that has three benefits rather than two. It helps to prime the skin before the application of a make-up product and is designed to give a very long lasting effect in terms of evening out the wearer skin tone. Incorporating a very light tint the product easily blends in to almost any skin colour, as well is giving SPF protection from UVA and UVB exposure.

Containing peptides it is very suitable for use with older, more mature skin. These peptides are known to stimulate the production of collagen, and thus help with firming up the skin, furthermore it is also supplemented with other ingredients that help to fight the triggers that cause ageing in the skin.

What are the guidelines for using the product?

The Dermalogica skincare primer SPF 30can be used on its own, or alternatively it can be worn worn over your prescribed moisturiser. This will help to smooth lines and even out the skin tone. Providing luminosity, the product is great for wearing on its own and is well suited for busy professionals who want to keep the products close at hand for application during the day. As well as wearing the products over your regular moisturiser, this skin primer has the added benefit of being worn under foundation products and helps to prevent them deteriorating throughout the day.

What are the fundamental differences between skin perfect primer SPF 30 and completing skincare primers?

Firstly it is easy to see immediate results, the product is unique in that it has SPF protection as well as ingredients that fight the ageing process.

Secondly it helps to prolong the wearers make-up over time. This is because it absorbs oil and prevents make-up products from losing adhesion and sliding down the face. That said, it is excellent for sufferers of oily skin.

Thirdly containing hydrolysed pearl powder, the product is very effective at evening out the texture of the skin and significantly improving its overall appearance.

So, to conclude the Dermalogica skin perfect primer SPF 30 is great for a wide range of skin conditions, especially oily. It contains peptides that are great for anti-ageing and at tint that answered luminosity to the skin. Some reviews have touted it as expensive, however given the numerous benefits of the product and the fact that it can help to improve the longevity of your regular make-up product, many can see the benefits far outweigh the price.

Dermalogica skin perfect primer reviews

The Dermalogica skin perfect primer, has been reviewed both by professional therapists and regular users. Many of the reviews tend to commend the product for its ability to hold make-up products in place. Brightening of the skin and improvements regarding the appearance of fine lines are also raved about.

Some have said that the products appears to over promise, but when used their amazed at how far it goes.

More reviews are available at Dermalogica's US website

Try the Dermalogica Skin Perfect Primer SPF 30 risk free

Dermalogica remains at the top of most celebs lists when it comes to professional skincare. Beauty Editors, make up artists and many skin professionals are dedicated to the award winning brand.

Prevent the cold taking hold this autumn. As the days become shorter, it becomes necessary to dust off the woolies and huddle closer to the warmth of the fire. This change in season hasn't prevented screen icons like Helen Mirren, Catherine Zeta Jones and Chloe Mortez from tackling Canada's incredibly cold climate to film Red 2 and Kick Ass 2 respectively.

At Dailygrooming our customers know that we can provide all that is necessary to protect their skin (whilst keeping it supple, soft and radiant) through the winter months.

Dear Dermalogica Lady:

First of all, I’d like to commend Daily Grooming for keeping me well stocked with Dermalogica moisturisers. I use several products and have never been happier with my choice of skin care protocol...nor with my stockist!

My question has to do with a problem that rears its troublesome head once a year. Every Autumn I seem to break out in patches on my cheeks and forehead. What do you recommend?

Additionally, I am reaping the benefits of antioxidant vitamins internally and have developed a penchant for anything antioxidant! Can Dermalogica provide a product that can do for my skin what antioxidant vitamins do for me intra-cellularly?

Finally, I must tell you that your customer service is very satisfactory! Keep up the good work!

Kind regards,

Seeking Relief in Portsmouth
(Elizabeth Remington)

Dear Ms. Remington:

How very nice to hear from you! We are always happy when we manage to meet the expectations of valued customers like you.

Regarding your skin patches, have you consulted a healthcare provider to rule out Rosacea? This skin irritation can be triggered by allergies and extremes in temperature. It is usually a temporary inflammatory condition; is accompanied by some form of itching and can lead to flushing and swelling.

Besides avoiding very cold or very hot weather, we recommend that you stay away from alcohol or caffeine. To soothe your redness, include Dermalogica’s Redness Relief on your next online shopping visit. This daily moisturiser is especially formulated to calm reddened skin. With an SPF of 20, it soothes inflamed, sensitive skin.

As for your penchant for anything antioxidant, we’re fans of antioxidants, too. Our Multi-Vitamin Power Concentrate, chock-full of antioxidants, is excellent for mature or prematurely-aging skin. This formulation contains concentrated Vitamins A, C and E. It defends against the very same free radicals that you’re protecting your body against with your supplements!

We hope you will continue to let us know how we can be of service. Remember that we are always happy to talk! Give a call 24 hours, Monday through Friday at 0854 363 1975.

Kindest regards,
The Dermalogica Lady

Dermalogica Overnight Skin Rescue Provides Hope For Woman In Her 60’s

Dear Dermalogica Lady:

I am a lady in my 60’s and realise I will not be able to regain the skin of my youth, but am not entirely sure I should give up wanting smoother skin.

I am fairly well-informed; there are only a few areas in my life that leave me puzzled. Skincare is one such area. When it comes to treating my severely dry and cracked skin, I feel inept.

My under-eye area is particularly parched and a bit sensitive.

My skin is of a fine texture and overall has few wrinkles. (I’ve stayed out of the sun). What do you recommend?

Signed
Seeking Softer Skin in London

Dear Seeking:

It sounds as if you have good genes and that you’ve taken care of your skin. That’s a good foundation to start with.

You’ll need to put a little effort into getting your skin to feel smooth again, but it’s perfectly doable with our AGE Smart System of which the Overnight Rescue Kit is a crucial part.

The Overnight Rescue Kit consists of three products perfectly suited for your skin.

As the kit suggests, you’ll need to apply these items before going to bed.

The first product in the Overnight Rescue Kit, the Overnight Repair Serum, synchronises with your body’s natural rejuvenation system. After applying, the oil will soak into your skin, leaving it looking and feeling beautiful...and not at all greasy! You’ll awaken with skin that is elastic, luminous and baby-soft. Your fine lines and wrinkles will have been smoothed away.

The Super Rich Repair, which should be applied to your face and neck in an upward motion, works in tandem with the Overnight Repair Serum. You’ll notice an improvement in the texture of your skin. You can blend this lotion with your regular moisturizer or with the Overnight Repair Serum.

The Age Reversal Eye Complex will address your under-eye area. This formula works on puffiness, dehydration, under-eye circles, wrinkles and crows’ feet. Dab on every other night. This product does very well on hypersensitive skin like yours.

As with all Dermalogica items, each of these formulations have no artificial colours or fragrances, so you can feel good about applying and leaving them on all night to do their beauty work.

These three products will pamper and protect your skin. It won’t be long before your skin is glowing and, yes, youthful in appearance. Rather than feeling inept, soon you’ll feel as if you’re on top of your game, skincare wise.

Give our best to London Town!

Kindest regards

The Dermalogica Lady

Dermalogica Solar Defense Booster SPF 50

Dermalogica Solar Defense Booster SPF 50

Dear Dermalogica Lady:

I’ve been hearing that some sunscreens are just as bad as too many rays when you factor in the chemicals used. Also, is it true that some chemicals actually contribute to skin cancer?

If so, so what’s a fair-skinned redhead to do?

I’m asking you because, if you can’t trust Dermalogica when it comes to skin care, whom can you trust? So let’s have the lowdown, Dermalogica: How do I protect my skin, when I’m out and about in the sun?

Signed,

Uptown in the Sun

Dear Uptown:

If you’re concerned with how chemicals and additives (in our already smoggy and chemical-laden society) affect your skin and health, you have come to the right place for your skin care. Dermalogica products are non-comedogenic. They do not block your pores, which might lead to acne. We use only the finest ingredients--no artificial fragrances, lanolin, S.D. Alcohol, artificial colours or mineral oils which, although they are cheaper to use, do not contribute to your skin’s health.

Anything that compromises your human composition, including your hormone, nervous, endocrine and immune systems, are not going to have much benefit for your integumentary (skin, nails hair and sweat glands) system, either. Chemicals are oftentimes viewed as hostile invaders by the body. Many people seeking overall health avoid them.

So, yes, what affects our physiology affects our skin.
This fall, we are releasing a brand new line of “Improved Daylight Defense” moisturising sun screens and you’re bound to find one that you’ll fall in love with. Because you are fair skinned, I’d go for the highest SPF factor. Our Solar Defense Booster SPF 50 should work for you.

It’s broad spectrum, like all our SPF-containing products. They not only protect you against UVA, the more prevalent form of ultraviolet rays which penetrate clouds and glass, but also against UVB, the cause of skin reddening and sunburn. (There’s a third ray, UVC, but most of it is absorbed by the ozone layer.)

Now that you’ve had your science lesson for the day, why not order Solar Defense Booster SPF 50 and add it to your moisturizer or foundation—or both? You’ll feel better about going out in the sun. And thanks for trusting us with your skin! We do work hard to earn and keep that trust.
Anything else you need, let me know!

Kindest regards,
The Dermalogica Lady

I was a nervous teen and often scratched my face. I didn’t have pimples to begin with, but I developed blisters and, consequently, an unsightly rash. Now that I’m in my 30’s, I have the occasional adult acne and very inflamed skin.

I’ve seen dermatologist after dermatologist, but nothing seems to calm my “angry” skin.

I don’t have pockmarks, thankfully. However, the products I purchased throughout the years –even the products the doctors recommended--were rough as sandpaper. They irritated my skin and left the surface very reddened and sore.

Can Dermalogica rebalance my skin?

Thanks much! Feeling the Effects of Youthful Nerves

Dear Feeling: Believe it or not, we have heard of this sort of problem before…many times, as a matter of fact. The teen years are a trying time, but even as adults, our stress-filled lives sometimes result in our doing minor damage to our skin. (Of course, any serious damage has to be brought to the attention of a mental health therapist, so that she or he can address the root of the issue.)

We have just the regimen for you, dear. First, you’ll want to try the Pre-Cleanse, the lightweight olive and apricot kernel-based cleanser that liquefies sebum and debris without leaving an oily film. You can see the residue rinse right down the drain. It is fortified with Kuki Nut, Borage seed and Rice Bran oils.

Next, I’d opt for the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant, a super-gentle rice-based enzyme powder which gently scrubs the surface of the skin, increasing circulation as it removes dulling debris. The skin is left brighter and smoother. Even sensitive skin achieves a naturally healthy glow. I’d use that once or twice a week.

The Skin Hydrating Booster is a super-saturated hydrating fluid. “Leaves skin like a baby’s,” writes one reviewer. It smoothes and minimises fine lines. Great for very thirsty skin. You don’t say if your skin is oily, but you do mention adult acne. The Dermal Clay Cleanser is especially developed for skin with excess oil and it pulls extra sebum through the pores with the power of Bentonite and Kaolin clay. This cleanser is infused with botanical extracts and exhilarating Menthol. It also refines your skin texture.

Finally, for spot treatment of flare-ups, go for the Dermalogica Spot Treatment. If you prefer to stay away from the harsher ingredients of such products, this Treatment is free of Benzoyl Peroxide and instead has Sulfur and Zinc Oxide—both naturally occurring elements.

At this point in your healing, it’s not so much the order in which you apply these products; it’s the consistency of use. Barring your speaking to a skin specialist, only you can see how well your skin is doing with regular usage of certain Dermalogica products. But your skin will thank you for treating it with natural, botanical methods.

Here’s to your new, relaxed skin health!

Dermalogica Exfoliants and Hydroxy Acid

Dear Dermalogica Lady:

How important are exfoliants and microfoliants, and why do I need a brush with these products? I have my father’s old shaving brush. Will that do?

I just need to make sure I avoid the puffiness, redness and even oozing skin I hear about with some dermabrasion methods.

I like the idea of rosy new surface skin but would like to avoid anything caustic or chemical-laden. Is there another way to give my skin a fresh new look?

Finally, what on earth is hydroxyl acid and why is it in so many of your exfoliant products?

Signed,

Not Ready to go Raw

Dear Not Ready to go Raw:

I sympathise with you. There is such a wealth of information out there today on how scrubbing or mild abrasion helps reveal a brand new layer of skin, but there’s also the flip side of the coin: cautions about the symptoms that might accompany extreme applications of such a protocol.

If you dig a little deeper you’ll find that there’s a perfectly safe and sensible way to “set your skin free” from dull, dead cells.

Dermalogica Exfoliants are infused with botanicals and natural essences. We only use products that nourish and protect your skin. Exfoliants are no exception: they pamper your skin by preparing it for your prescribed skin care regimen.

Hydroxy acid is derived from fruits, especially payaya, oranges and lemon. Age-old remedies used sour buttermilk (for the lactic acid, another form of hydroxyl acid) and sugarcane (for the glycolic acid, a component of hydroxyl acid), to do the same thing: gently peel away dead cells.

This natural compound can also be manufactured synthetically in a cosmetic lab. In a dermatologist’s office, solutions of from 20% to 30% of the synthetic are applied to a patient’s skin for what is known as a full-blown chemical peel or microdermabrasion.

The amount of hydroxyl acid in Dermalogica’s products is nowhere near that amount, but it does offer just a touch of what Mother Nature provides in abundance in lemons and other tart fruits to slough off dulling skin.

Dermalogica has a slew of beautifully safe and effective exfoliants that provide a peeling and exfoliation process. They range from gentle to intense. You might want to look into the Dermalogica Daily Resurfacer; the Daily Microfoliant; the Skin Prep Scrub and the Gentle Cream Exfoliant.

And, yes, you can use your dad’s brush, but if the bristles start to get a little worn, you might want to check out Dermalogica’s Deluxe Exfoliating Facial Brush. It has hygienic, quick-drying nylon bristles which, used in a circular motion, gently massage your favorite cleanser into your skin, exfoliating dead cells and leaving behind smoother, younger skin.

I hope that this information will help you see your way clear to buffing your skin without going raw!

Kindest regards,
The Dermalogica Lady

How Dermalogica Boosters save Sagging, Peeling Skin

Dear Dermalogica Lady:

I have been reading your posts and I am very impressed with your answers. I never thought I’d write, myself, but I have started noticing that my neck is looking saggy. Too, a three-day binge at the beach left my skin itching and peeling. As Dorothy said in The Wizard of Oz, “I don’t think there’s anything in that black bag for me.” Is there?

Signed

Want to Go Home To Clear Skin

Dear Want To Go Home:

If you’ll remember, in the film, Dorothy got her wish. Don’t give up hope.

OK. Let’s open up that black Dermalogica bag.

There are four marvellous little concentrated Dermalogica boosters that might be just the ticket. Each one can be added to your favourite moisturizer; they multi-task quite well!

The first one, the Extra Firming Booster, will work wonders on your sagging skin. Apply a small amount onto your finger tips and massage into your face and throat. You’ll want to follow up with your prescribed Dermalogica moisturiser.

This product retexturizes the skin; its botanicals and vitamins strengthen your skin’s internal structure.

Next, we have the Gentle Soothing Booster, to help intensify repair action to where it’s needed. Completely oil-free, it’s infused with healing honey to soothe and calm irritated skin. Try it on your own peeling skin. Reviewers have reported it stops the skin from itching. Your sunburned skin will thank you!

If you opt for the Skin Hydrating Booster, fine lines will be smoothed away. The fluid acts as a nourishing balm for the driest of skin.

Reviewers have been pleasantly surprised to find that the reddest, most chapped skin reacted in as little as a few minutes. “My redness was fading. The results were SO INCREDIBLE,” writes one of our customers.

Finally, the Skin Renewal Booster will gently exfoliate your skin with its plant extracts, removing any dullness or dead skin. You might want to use this when your skin has healed over a bit.

You don’t need all four of these, but I’m sure you’ll find one or two that will become your new best friends.

None of these products contain any artificial fragrances or colours.

To many Dermalogica users, Dermalogica is “home” to products that provide healthy, smooth and all-around beautiful skin.

Now click your heels three times and say “There’s no place like home”.

Signed,

Using Dermalogica To Brighten a Dry Complexion

Dear Dermalogica Lady:

My skin is chapped and raw. I’ve let it go too long. How do I bring a bit of brightness to my dull, reddened face without resorting to heavy, chemical-laden moisturisers and sloughing creams?

I like the idea that your products promise “pure” beauty, the kind of stuff that only Mother Nature can provide.

Also, what’s this I hear about Dermalogica helping women in under-developed countries start their own businesses? It sounds like something I might be interested in helping to support.

Signed,

Seeking Clarity in Sedgwick

Dear Seeking Clarity:

Two excellent questions! Let’s help bring your face out from obscurity, first. If you start with the Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster, it’ll sting a bit at first - that’s your raw, red, chapped skin reacting to any attempt to “protect” it - but within a few minutes, you’ll feel the soothing start to take over.

Most likely the redness will begin to fade shortly afterwards and your skin texture and overall tone will improve dramatically.

Recommended by professional therapists, the Skin Hydrating Booster is a must-have for skins that have been subjected to stressful conditions.

Once your skin heals, you might wish to mix it with your regular moisturiser or use it once or twice a week as a special thirst-quenching drink for your skin.

As the skin becomes hydrated and its chapped condition stabilises, you’ll want to use the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant. Useful for all skin conditions, its rice-based enzyme powder creates just enough surface friction to leave behind a clearer, brighter complexion. It’s free of all artificial colours or fragrance, of course. “Squeaky clean” and “Silky” are a few of the comments satisfied customers leave behind on the Dermalogica site.

Now on to the second part of your question. Dermalogica has launched a FITE initiative, which stands for Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship. In partnership with KIVA, a leading Microfinancing group, Dermalogica - the world’s foremost professional skincare brand - is passing along monies to help women in developing nations grow their businesses and improve their communities.

Whenever you purchase a FITE - sleeved product from your local Dermalogica skin centre, and use the coin inside to help activate Dermalogica’s funding of a business of your choosing, you support this empowerment initiative!

The goal is to help at least 25,000 women in this capacity within the first two years.

Hope this information will help you see things more clearly!

Kindest regards,

The Dermalogica Lady

Dermalogica Age Smart - Am I Ready?

Dear Dermalogica Lady:

I've heard good things about Dermalogica's Age Smart products, but do I need them yet? I'm worried because I’m starting to look a lot older than my peers. When I look in the mirror, I see lines creeping alongside my mouth and underneath my eyes. My skin texture isn’t elastic and, depending on how the light hits my face, my skin appears to be sagging prematurely. I’m only 35. I don’t have a beauty regimen to speak of. What can I do to compensate for what nature (and perhaps the sun’s damaging rays) has done?

Signed,
I’d Like the Real “Me” Back.

Dear “I’d Like…”

You want Dermalogica’s “Age Defying Facial”. It’s a powerful treatment specially created for aging, sun-damaged skin. It provides nourishment and regeneration. This facial will instantly make your skin firmer and smoother.

Next, tackle those under eye lines.

Dermalogica’s Intensive Eye Repair is for dryer or prematurely aging skin. As you’ve heard time and time again, the under eye area is extremely delicate. But since Dermalogica’s products are made without harsh ingredients such as alcohol and artificial colours, you’ll be ahead of the game.

Try moisturising early in the day, as well. You already do that? Great! (Many girls only hydrate in the evening.) When you apply a cream or lotion early on, your skin will “plump up” and fine lines will become less visible.

Have you tried our Multi Active Toner?

If not, you should. (It’s our number one selling product and draws raves.) Before applying, spritz your face, leaving a fine mist on the surface. Use that pump bottle often throughout the day.

And for a quick pick-me-up give yourself a mini-facial. Rub your hands together for half a minute. Move them upwards towards your hairline and then outwards towards your chin.

Finally, leave a humidifier on at night. Don’t have one? A bowl of water on the floor, near where you lay your head, will do nicely.

From the sound of it, your skin is crying out for some pampering. A bit of effort and you’ll soon recognise the face that looks back at you in the mirror. If you want to see our anti ageing range, check out the Dermalogica Age Smart category.

Dermalogica Products For Dry Skin - A Wedding

Dear Dermalogica Lady: I’m at a loss as to what to do and, needing advice, I immediately thought of you. My fiancé and I are planning an early spring wedding and everything’s going along spectacularly…with one exception: I have dry alligator-like skin. Right…it may not be THAT bad, but it IS flaky and itchy and not at all attractive (to me, anyway).

My husband-to-be declares that it’s no big deal but it’s quite noticeable. The condition worsens in the winter. Even after slathering my face and hands with Vaseline, I don’t see improvements.

Am I destined to walk down the aisle while lifting my veil up as little as possible, or do you foresee relief for me with a Dermologica product?

Signed,

Bride-to-be in Hampshire

Dear B-to-B:

Barring a more entrenched condition such as dermatitis or eczema (which should be diagnosed by your doctor or a dermatologist), it’s fair to say that the winter weather is stripping your skin pretty severely. There’s no reason you should have to put up with dry skin…and certainly not on your wedding day!

Of course Dermalogica has the cure for chapped, dehydrated skin!

But first, we’ll have to split hairs for a moment. It’s helpful to determine whether your skin is indeed dry…or just thoroughly dehydrated. Dry skin is lacking oil secretion in the areas where there are generally not many glands (like the eye, cheek and upper lip areas.) Your hands have these glands, too, although not in the palm area.

Dehydrated skin needs to rehydrate on a massive scale—and lock in moisture. Both dry and dehydrated skin can itch and appear inflamed.

(There is yet another category: prematurely ageing skin, but although you didn’t state your age, I’m venturing to guess this might not be something you need to be concerned with right now.)

If your skin is dry, it might manifest as rough to the touch. What you need to do is cut down on the washings and avoid very hot water.

Dermalogica’s Essential Cleansing Solution is a good choice for you. It’s a rich and creamy lotion that gently lifts impurities from the skin without stripping your skin of its essential oils.

This non-foamy cleanser leaves the essences of plant extracts and replenishing vitamins on your skin’s surface. Your skin will literally drink these nourishments in.

Follow this up with Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream, which, with its soothing botanicals and antioxidants, locks in your skin’s moisture level. This combats the dehydration factor. Your skin will be supple, with improved texture. Fine lines and tiny wrinkles will be smoothed away and your skin will be protected from free radicals and airborne pollution.

Finally, if your skin is raw or peeling due to excess friction, try Dermalogica Climate Control. Think of it as a first line of defense…to be used on areas that appear damaged. This balm glides easily over skin that is sensitive or under environmental assault (like cold, bitter wind and/or the effects of central heating), reducing the injury of further friction on the epidermis.

A word of advice: keep your hands from your face. Avoid the temptation to pick at or peel off abraded areas of the skin. Your fingertips contain the most microscopic of germs—held in place by oils and wax. Think of how many times you reach up and pat your hair or touch your hairline…both areas that contain sebaceous glands, and fats and wax secreted by these glands. Your skin could do without either of these.

Calm down and everything will sort itself out…including your damaged skin. Enjoy your special day and remember…all brides are beautiful. Envision yourself as the image of loveliness you are, as you head down that aisle to say your “I Do’s”. Your guest (and husband-to-be) will be sure to share that vision

Dear Davines Stockist

Dear Davines Stockist

The salon I go to in London always uses the Davines fragrant and fashionable hair products—my favourites! I actually learned how Davines got started whilst visiting Italy. I stopped at Parma, where the Bollati family first experimented with their earth-friendly beauty products. Just as is the case here, I was delighted at how well-regarded Davines products have become.

Here’s my dilemma: I’m a little shy about trying Davines products at home (when I’m not visiting the hairstylist, that is). The reason? The prices are all right; it’s just that the products themselves seem so…extravagant, if you know what I mean. As if they were meant to be used for special occasions.

How can I justify using Davines every day?

Thanks!

Kind regards,

Hesitant Henrietta

Dear Henrietta

I appreciate your e-mail! I’ve been a dedicated Davines stockist long enough to know that Davines Hair Care is esteemed for a reason: its fresh and natural ingredients will give you lustrous, manageable hair. The more you use it, the better the outcome. And how else can you experience that exhilarating smell and that luxurious overall Davines artistry?

Henrietta, may we challenge you to get your hair in the best shape it’s ever been in?

Try the Davines hair care products. Enjoy the sensual pleasure of the deliciously smelling shampoos, conditioners, gels and other treatments…yes, day-in-and-day-out.

Give it 30 days. If you don’t think your hair smells, feels and looks softer, more conditioned and just plain lovelier than ever before, we’ll refund your product price, no questions asked.

(This was always the case, but we want to make a point: we stand behind our products and are serious about the difference they can make in your beauty ritual.)

Dear Dermalogica Lady:

I just got home from a rough day at the office. I’m a fashion designer and you wouldn’t believe the pressure! As I was running into yet another meeting this morning, my face started to break out in hives. (That happens when I’m nervous.) What do you recommend to calm me down?

Signed,
Stressful Sara

Dear Stressful:

Three words. UltraCalming Mist ©. Just saying the name to yourself as you scoop up the bottle is likely to start the de-stressing process.

OK. So you made it home safe and sound. Now drop that portfolio case. Head right for the shower. Place the UltraCalming Mist © where you’ll see it when you come out of the stall or tub.

Don’t make the water too hot…that’ll enervate you and it sounds as if you could use a little gentle soothing. Am I right? OK. I see you nodding your head. So stay in there for no more than five minutes. You don’t want to wrinkle your skin!

Now step out of the shower. Remove the see-through cap. Tilt the container towards your face. Spritz. Hmmm. You’ll inhale the subtlest hint of a few of the botanicals that UltraCalming Mist © is made with. Radish roots, avena sativa (oat kernel extract), ginger, aloe…

UltraCalming Spritz © contains a brand new, especially developed formula called the “UltraCalming Complex” © which actually goes to work on itchy allergies and irritations.

And while you’re protecting your skin’s moisture, you’re treating and healing the red, inflamed spots. (Nature made aloe and oats two of the most healing substances on the planet!)

Dermalogica UltraCalming Mist © will also act as a superior toner, prepping the skin to properly hydrate, locking in the moisture. Liberally spritz your face, shoulders and chest area.

Your skin will still be wet from the shower, and this is an ideal time to apply your favourite moisturiser. Why not keep it all in the same family of products? The UltraCalming © line has a Serum Concentrate which will continue to calm frazzled nerve endings. Too, it pampers your skin with luxurious emollients.

Now, while basking in that beautifying, botanically infused calm (and newfound relief against inflamed, irritated skin), wrap yourself in a thick terry cloth robe and head off to the kitchen for a spot of chamomile tea. Tomorrow will be better.

When the alarm goes off in the a.m., slip on your favourite outfit--in a hue that really sets off your glowing, blotch-free skin. When you slide into your seat at the next meeting, your colleagues won’t be able to keep from noticing your luminous skin. If asked how you did it, don’t hesitate to mention your intelligent, nourishing, CALMING approach to skincare!

Sincerely,
The Dermalogica Lady

Using Sunbeds? Maybe it'sTime To Hit The Bottle

In the past many of us have probably had a course of sunbeds prior to going on holiday. I mean, who wants to end up on the beach thing as white as a sheet?

The Ultraviolet radiation given off by commercial sunlamps has often received bad press. But there is increasing evidence that the damage caused is far worse than has been previously reported. Recent studies by the Journal of investigative dermatology has highlighted the dangers of UV lamps, and DNA damage as a consequence also show that there is an increased risk of skin cancer. Which, incedentally is directly related to exposure to UV during tanning.

The DNA damage caused by the use of commercial tanning beds has the potential to accelerate tumourigenesis in the skin.

Nowadays there are many advanced tanning solutions on the market. One worthy of mention is the Sienna X tanning range, which has just won the beauty guilds award of excellence for 2011. Hopefully it's that good it'll prevent many of us develping skin cancer.

Our teenage years are an ideal time to start getting into good habits and Dermalogica Cleanstart is a good area to start with!
While the condition and appearance of your skin is influenced to a certain extent by hormones and genetics the kind of lifestyle you lead and your diet can have a huge impact on the health of your skin. Eating healthily, getting enough zzzz’s, being active and steering clear of smoking will all work wonders on your skin and health!
Establishing a good skincare routine in your teens will not only keep your skin looking good when you’re young but will also help prevent skin problems such as acne, sun damage, discolouration and fine lines not only now but into your 20’s and well beyond!
Finding the right teenage skincare products is the first thing you should do. Once you have found the right products for your skin you should start a basic daily skincare routine. It only needs to take a few minutes morning and night to care for your skin! Here’s how:-
Cleanse
Dry skin isn’t the type of skin that most teenagers have so the best type of cleansers for young skin are usually foaming cleansers or gels that are oil free and you need to choose one that doesn’t dry your skin out. For skin that’s prone to breakouts a cleanser that contains salicylic acid (a beta-hydroxy acid that deep cleans pores without drying skin out) is the best choice.
Dermalogica Clean start Wash Off is a foaming face wash that is perfect for teenage skin because it deep cleanses and banishes skin breakouts. It contains Salicylic Acid to clear trapped oils and breakout causing bacteria, plus botanical extracts which help regulate the production of oil.

Tone
For normal or oily skin choose a toner that is slightly astringent or that contains Witch Hazel. During dry weather you could use a non-alcoholic conditioning toner.

Moisturise
Even if your skin is oily and prone to breakouts you need to use a moisturiser. All skins need moisture, not oil. For daytime use choose an oil-free moisturiser with an SPF 15. For nighttime use an oil-free moisturiser that’s formulated for nighttime use. For the skin around your eyes you should use a gentle eye cream as this will not cause your eyes to become irritated!
Exfoliate
Once a week you should use a gentle exfoliator or a pore cleansing, exfoliating face mask. Doing this will keep your pores cleansed and purified and whisk away dead skin cells, leaving your skin fresh and clear.
Additional treatments
You can add to your basic skincare routine when you need to, such as if you do have a breakout or the occasional pimple when you can use an on-the-spot treatment to zap them!

Red Nose? Dermalogica Redness Relief Remedy

Dermalogica UltraCalming Redness Relief SPF 20 is part of the UltraCalming range. This targeted range has many different skin care products designed to heal and restore sensitized skin. Used to treat sunburn, allergic rashes, rosacea, and skin irritated from skin peels the UltraCalming skin regimen promotes healing, eases pain topically and reduces redness on application.

Redness Relief Serves Five Unique Functions

•	A physical barrier mineral sunblock, with no harsh sunscreen chemicals

•	Covers redness with Hydrated Chromium Oxide which conceals redness with its pale green mineral pigment

•	Eases skin pain with licorice as a topical analgesic

•	Promotes Healing with Buckthorn, Vitamin E, and Oat Kernel

•	Calms irritated skin with the powerful anti-inflammatory properties of Oat Kernel

Use as a Primer for Foundation

Dermalogica UltraCalming Redness Relief SPF 20 can be used as a wonderful base coat for foundation. For those who are suffering from red skin, the barely noticable green pigment will cover any red completely and even-out those red tones. It is an old artist’s trick, to cover a red that seems too bright with a bit of olive green. Enough of those olive tones and the brightness of the red can be neutralised completely, without ever looking green. Redness Relief covers red effectively, without looking green, so that any foundation goes on as if over a flawless porcelain complexion.

With the Oat Kernel and the Licorice doing their jobs, there is no temptation to scratch, touch or otherwise disturb your makeup because of pain or itching, so make up stays on all day, while underneath the Buckthorn and Oat Kernel are working to treat the causes of redness and relieve inflammation and puffiness. Dermalogica UltraCalming Redness Relief SPF 20 works to ease pain, cover redness, and reduce inflammation, while skin looks beautiful under makeup.

Dermalogica Milia – How Exfoliant Products Can Help

So what are/is Milia and which Dermalogica exfoliant products can help? Milia are small white keratin cysts which commonly occur near the eyes, though they can appear virtually anywhere on the body. Even though milia are harmless skin growths, people who have them, can become very self conscious. Milia vary in size, and some people have numerous milia around their eye areas.

Prevention of Milia
Because many people are prone to developing multiple milia it is important to prevent them as well as treat the ones that are already there. While the predisposition for milia is genetic, anyone can develop them, and those who have milia may have less if they avoid sun around their eyes. In fact any type of burn, whether from sun, harsh chemicals or high temperatures, can increase the chances of developing milia. It is also important to avoid heavy creams, mineral oil, and lanolin around the eyes, as this can aggravate milia, by preventing natural exfoliation. In general the best defense against milia is sunscreen, exfoliation, and a well balanced eye cream. Ask a Dermalogica trained skin therapist for recommendations on which products may prevent and treat milia and are unique to your skin type.

Total Eye Care SPF 15
Dermalogica Total Eye Care SPF 15 will help prevent UV rays from reaching the eye area. Additionally, having a proper eye cream, instead of a heavy facial moisturiser in the eye area is also important to prevent milia.
Avoid Harsh Chemical Peels
It is very important to avoid harsh chemical peels because while these may be effective in removing milia, they can also create more in the future. Treating your skin with gentle love and care, even when exfoliating, is the key to preventing milia. For this reason Dermalogica milia products are best for people who are prone to the condition.
Getting Rid of Milia
For people who have a lot of small milia and the predisposition to develop new ones, the best answer is exfoliation in most cases. Milia are small cysts which dwell just beneath the top layer of skin. They are not related to pores, sweat glands or hair follicles so squeezing them will not help. They are not related to bacteria or virus so cleansing isn’t the answer either. The sac around the milia is very tough so there is no point trying to mash it or break it up. The only way to get rid of milia is to either prick or erode the skin over the top of the milia and eventually push, or scrub it from the skin’s surface. Using exfoliants to treat existing milia takes time. You will not see immediate results but over weeks and months it can make a difference. Remember that using Dermalogica exfoliation products also help to prevent new milia, as well as treating existing ones.
Dermalogica Exfoliant Products
The following Dermalogica products will help to erode milia. Because each person’s skin is different, Dermalogica makes a wide assortment of exfoliants, all of which are gentle and effective. Ask your Dermalogica trained skin therapist which Dermalogica exfoliants are right for you.
Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant
Dermalogica Daily Resurfacer
Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant
Dermalogica Multivitamin Thermafoliant
Dermalogica Powerfoliant
Dermalogica Skin Prep Scrub
The Dermalogica Exfoliating Face Brush
Perhaps the most logical implement for milia is the Dermalogica Exfoliating Face Brush. This soft facial brush gently scrubs the skin with soft bristles. Simply apply your Dermalogica cleanser or exfoliant and add some extra punch to your exfoliating program by brushing it into the skin. One day you may find that you have brushed away your milia with the brush, instead of having to visit the dermatologist.

Excision of Milia
Some milia can be really stubborn. If after long term daily exfoliation, a few milia still remain, you may have to have them removed. The process is simple. The dermatologist will open the top layer of the skin by scratching it with a sterile needle, and then push or pry out the cyst with a blackhead extractor. While this is simple and relatively painless, it can be costly, especially if there are a lot of milia. Some doctors prefer to make several appointments to get rid of more than a dozen milia. It’s best to get rid of as many as possible with exfoliation, and then if any milia stubbornly remain, allow a dermatologist to remove them.
Milia can be embarrassing, and many people feel extremely self conscious about them, but they aren't harmful. Because milia are not considered life threatening or even a health risk at all, milia removal is considered as cosmetic surgery. Professional excision of milia can be expensive and time consuming. Removing milia by means of exfoliation is a sensible way to keep this problem under control.

Turning Your Curly Locks From Capricious Into Carefree Pt2

As promised we're back with part 2 of our curly hair post.

Amazingly, 90% of people suffer with dry, frizzy or brittle hair because their hair is lacking in moisture, i.e. water! For hair to be in a healthy condition it needs to have a moisture content of 8%, at the very least, and the correct balance of natural oils. Chemical hair treatments, though, can bring the moisture level of hair down to as low as 2% which results in split ends and breakage.

Most of us have enough natural hair oils (sebum) to keep our hair strong and healthy but the moisture is lacking. Those of us who have chemically treated hair, naturally curly or wavy hair, or frizzy hair, need to nurture our hair more by giving it the extra nutrition and moisture that it so desperately needs to be healthy.

There are simple ways to keep your kinks from getting uncontrollable and ravaged though! :-

Select haircare products that are specifically formulated for frizzy or curly hair. For example, look for shampoos that contain natural humectants (which have magnetic qualities that attract moisture) as these will work together with the natural oils in your hair and help restore its moisture level to the optimum 8%.

Treatment conditioners containing wheat, corn or rice proteins repair damage, improve porosity and elasticity, and restore health to hair. Davines Nourishing Vegetarian Miracle haircare treatment, from their Natural Tech haircare range, is an intensive conditioning treatment formulated for hair that is dehydrated and stressed. Rich in Rice Proteins, Vitamin E, Avocado and Red Algae, It deeply nourishes hair, preventing split ends, and restores health, vitality and body to hair. Simply comb through damp hair, leave on for between 10-20 minutes (depending on how deeply hair needs to be conditioned) and rinse out with tepid water.

When rinsing your hair after shampooing and conditioning, use tepid water, not hot, as this will help smooth the hair cuticle, making hair smoother and less frizzy.

Most hair mousses and gels have a high alcohol content so these are best avoided for use on frizzy hair as the alcohol can make frizziness worse. If you do want to use a mousse or gel then you should use one that is specifically designed for frizzy hair as the alcohol content will be much lower or it will be entirely alcohol free.

Minimise the use of heated hair styling equipment. When you do use heated styling equipment make sure you apply a suitable haircare product to your hair beforehand to protect your hair and to leave it soft, smooth and shiny. Also, you should use the lowest heat level setting possible as hair can be literally ‘cooked’ from the intense heat which is emitted from heated styling equipment such as hairdryers.

When you’re out and about in hot weather use hair products that incorporate sunscreens as this will give your hair protection from damaging UV rays. Without protection from UV rays your hair can sustain as much damage as it would from harsh chemical hair treatments.

Now you know how to change those wayward, frizzy curls into healthy, vibrant, sexy and sleek waves that anyone would be thrilled to have!

Is there a part of you that’s kinky and wayward? Is it sometimes just totally, impossibly out of control?? Do you sometimes like to just go wild and unleash it, letting it all hang out - either in private or even in public - and not give a hoot about what anybody else may think about it???

If you answered yes to any or all of the above questions then you have a problem! But (calm down!) we’re talking about your hair here and with some tender love and care, and the right haircare products, you can definitely keep it under control when you need to!

If you have wavy, curly, frizzy and or downright kinky hair then you probably find that, at least some of the time, it can be hard to control and seemingly in possession of a mind of its own!

Being blessed with natural curls is a good thing, but if you do have naturally curly locks then it’s very likely that your hair may also sometimes have a tendency to be frizzy. Hair that is naturally coarse also tends to be frizzy and dry. There are other factors though that can cause hair major problems. Chemical hair treatments such as bleaching, colouring and perming, the use of the wrong type of haircare products, overuse of heated hair styling equipment, humidity and chlorine can all create significant damage, making hair dehydrated, brittle and frizzy.

‘Virgin’ hair (hair that is not chemically treated!) can be kept in great condition with the use of good frizzy hair products which will keep it healthy, shiny and soft. However, if your hair has suffered all kinds of abuse over the years, from bleaching, perming, being blasted with scorching heat from hair dryers, etc, or if you have naturally curly hair then you’ll need to step up your haircare regime and put in the extra effort to make it healthy, strong and sleek!

We’ll be back in a couple of days with part 2 of this post where we’ll be explaining what can be done to help make the most of your curly frizzy hair problems.

In the meantime, have a look at our recommended curly hair products.<img src="http://premium.dailygrooming.co.uk/product_images/p/244/DavinesLOVEConditionerLovelyCurlEnhancingConditioner__71763_thumb.jpg" alt="Davines Curly Frizzy Shampoo.
