Revel into Wanderland with The Temper Trap

"Sweet Disposition" by The Temper Trap, a song I usually play and listen to during my trips. I don't know but its beat and rhythm always makes me feel either alive or relax. That is why I was so ecstatic when I found out that they will be having a concert in the country. Made possible by Karpos Multimedia Inc., Wanderland 2013 Music and Arts Festival will happen on May 18 at Globe Circuit Event Grounds in Makati City. Ticket price is Php 4,800.00 plus service charge (which I do not know how much). Gate is located at Hippodromo Street and will open at 11AM.

With rapid urbanization and an increased dependence on technology, the Survival Science Summer Program aims to promote the awareness and appreciation of the natural environment through lessons in science and practical survival skills. Engage in “tribe-building” activities including interactive lectures on biodiversity and guided practical tests on hunting and gathering for food, fire and shelter to name a few.

JEST Camp Subic is the first survival school in the Philippines and has been offering Survival Certification Courses since 1963.

Every year, the Kapamilya Network marks the start of the yuletide season with the launch of the ABS-CBN Christmas station ID. It has become almost a yearly tradition that Filipinos around the globe look forward to.

Lumiliwanag ang Mundo sa Kwento ng Pasko, our Christmas Station ID theme, highlights how the Filipino spirit always shines through despite calamities that ravage our country. It shows how each one of us become bearers of light, as we help our countrymen get back on their feet... how we remain resilient because kindness never runs out, because help always comes.

Many scenes in the SID are inspired by real events. Some of these stories happened at the height of the habagat - A fireman saved the lives of those stranded in their own homes; a chef opened the doors of his restaurant to feed victims; a young woman offered her own jacket to a street child who was suffering under the cold rain; Philippine coast guards went out of their way to save lives; Volunteers and civilians selflessly offered their time and energy to relief work.

This year's offering features hundreds of Kapamilya stars paying tribute to ordinary Filipino heroes, at the same time helping spread the light across the globe.

The parol, a Pinoy Christmas icon, is this year's Christmas SID centerpiece. Film director John-D Lazatin suggested the idea of having kids orphaned during Typhoon Sendong design a parol. This, in turn, is used as an instrument of light spreading around the world. When we own the Kapamilya parol, we're not only spreading the light, we're also being part of an effort to help our disaster affected Kapamilyas, as proceeds from the parol sales would be donated to Sagip Kapamilya, the ABS-CBN Foundation arm which provides relief to affected communities of disasters, as well as engage in rehabilitation and disaster risk reduction projects.

This year's Christmas anthem was written by Robert Labayen, ABS-CBN's Vice President of Creative Communications Management with music by Marcus and Amber Davis. It was performed by an ensemble of Kapamilya artists -- Sarah Geronimo, Martin Nievera, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Vina Morales, Billy Crawford; the Champions Angeline Quinto, Yeng Constantino, Erik Santos, Jed Madela, Christian Bautista, Bugoy Drilon, Marcelito Pomoy, Jovit Baldivino; the Sessionistas Aiza Seguerra, Richard Poon, Juris, Princess, Sitti, Kean Cipriano and Bamboo; X Factor Philippines Grand Winner KZ Tandingan, kid singers from ABS-CBN Star Magic; Daniel Padilla and Piolo Pascual.

The 2012 Christmas Station ID was created by ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management headed by Robert Labayen, Johnny Delos Santos, Patrick de Leon and Ira Zabat. After seeing the trailer, this triple-directed feature ( Lana and Andy Wachowski and Tom Tykwer ) is a must see movie this year. Starring Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Hugh Grant. The movie is almost 3 hours long. It is adapted from a novel with the same title in 2004.

I'm hoping cinemas in our country will feature this movie in the next coming months. I cant wait for the screening schedule of Cloud Atlas.

Trivia: Cloud Atlas is the most expensive independent film of all time.

Based on the 2010 Stock Estimate of Filipinos Overseas, there are about 9.45 million Filipinos overseas; 4.42 million of them are permanent migrants, 4.32 million temporary migrants, and more than 0.74 million irregular migrants. This part of our population significantly contributes to our nation building.
As part of this year’s celebration of the Month of Overseas Filipinos and International Migrants Day, the Inter-Agency Committee proposes to hold a photo competition in search of compelling photographs featuring the lives of overseas Filipinos. The National Commission for Culture and the Arts is designated the lead implementing agency for the said project.

The photo competition shall also be complemented by an exhibition showcasing the entries received and the winning photographs. The project gives a venue for overseas Filipinos to share their artistic perspective on their daily struggles and triumphs through Photography.

The competition is divided in two categories: Category A for ages 13-17 and Category B for 18 years old and above. Each category will have a 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd prize winners who will receive local travel opportunities to culturally rich tourist sites in the country. The exhibit will be held for the whole month of December 2012 as one of the activities in celebration of the Month of Overseas Filipinos.
Objective:
The project is aimed at raising the awareness of overseas Filipinos and the general Philippine publics on Philippine Diaspora through Photography.

Theme:
“A day in the life of an overseas Filipino: Stories of excellence, ingenuity, patience, hard work and success”

Term:
The Photo Essay Contest on the theme: “A day in the life of an overseas Filipino: Stories of excellence, ingenuity, patience, hard work and success” begins on August 15, 2012, and ends October 15, 2012. By submitting an entry, each contestant agrees to the rules of the contest.

Who may enter:
The contest is open to all Filipinos based overseas, including migrant workers, immigrants, second and third generation Filipinos overseas, and former Filipino citizens. It is divided into 2 categories: Category A: Aged 13-17 years and Category B: Aged 18 years and above. The entries must be from the migrants themselves and must present proof of being an overseas Filipinos, such as passport, Overseas Employment Certificate, seaman’s book, stamp, alien registration certificate, naturalization papers, etc.

What to enter:
1. Each photograph must be original and taken at their workplace or place of residence which may be correlated to the theme. Entrants must provide for every entry, the following information on their entry forms: a keyword/entry name of the photograph: place and date where the photo was taken; and a short caption in English language not to exceed 3 sentences written by the photographer on his insights of the subject and its significance. The entry / entries must capture stories of overseas Filipinos that would raise awareness of how life as a migrant is all about, or must advocate for the protection of rights and promotion of welfare and interests of overseas Filipinos.
2. Photographs must have been shot by the entrant within the past three (3) years (since June 2009). Cropped photos are eligible. The judging panel will not accept slides, or otherwise computer-enhanced or altered photos. Minor adjustments, including spotting, dodging, and burning, contrast and slight color adjustment or the digital equivalents, are acceptable. If the judges determine that a photographer has obviously altered his or her photo beyond what is allowed, they reserve the right to disqualify it.
3. High-quality scans of non-digital photographs are acceptable. Digital photographs should be taken at the highest resolution possible. Photographs must be in a jpeg, jpg or if format. Files submitted may not be larger than 2,048k (2Mb).
4. For a photo in which a person is recognizable, entrants must secure a model release from the subject or, in the case of a minor, the subject’s parent or guardian and provide it to the judging panel upon request. A sample release hereto serves as a supplement.
5. Photographs that have been part or won any other competition, or offered elsewhere for publication or have been published in magazines and newspapers or have been produced as an advertisement shall automatically be disqualified. Photos that violate or infringe upon another person’s copyright are not eligible.
6. Employees and officials of the NCCA and member agencies of the IAC-MOF and their immediate relatives are not eligible to join the competition.

How to enter:
1. Submit photographs via email at: intl_affairs@ncca.gov.ph.
2. Photographs submitted personally or through the mail will not be accepted.
3. Entrants can only submit a maximum of four (4) entries but will be allowed to win only once. Each photograph submitted must be accompanied by an entry form, copy attached. Only one entry form per entrant is required.
4. By entering the contest, entrants grant NCCA and IAC-MOF a royalty-free, world-wide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to display, distribute, reproduce, and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or subsequently developed, for any purpose, including, but not limited to advertising and promotion of the IAC-MOF and its website/webpage, including but not limited to IAC-MOF publications. Any photograph reproduced will include a photographer credit. The IAC-MOF will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such uses.

Criteria for Judging:
The entries will be reviewed and decided upon by a committee organized by the NCCA and IAC-MOF. The decision of the judges will be final. Following are the criteria for judging for the two categories:
1. Relevance to the selected theme
2. Aesthetic appeal of the photographer
3. Composition, balance, color and organization
4. Photographer’s insight as reflected in his short commentary or explanatory note will be given weight in the selection of winners
The finalists will be notified via email of their status by the second week of November 2012 and will be posted in the NCCA website at www.ncca.gov.ph. The NCCA and IAC-MOF reserves the right to modify these rules at its discretion.

Cinemalaya Goes to Fullybooked

For those who missed watching some of the famous entries of Cinemalaya this year, it is now your chance to see it for yourself as Fullybooked will be screening some of those films U-view, Fullybooked-Bonifacio High Street. There will also be a Q&A with the cast/crew of the film after the screening. Ticket is
sold at the Customer Sevice Desk for P350.

Last year, I was able to watch Zombadings at Fullybooked-BHS. Cant wait to watch. See you guys.
