Gosh Pith a Detroit based duo, have just debuted a video for their single ‘Waves’. The twenty-three year old singer-songwriters created the video based around things they had been experiencing in their dreams that they then began to see, hear and feel in real life. Working with forty individuals from Detroit, the video is based around a girl meditating whilst the others act as the embodiment of different elements of her chaotic subconscious. A creative and intriguing extravaganza.

In a time where a few duos are creating fresh electronic beats, it would be easy for Gosh Pith to just blend into the background. However, the track itself displays sensual bass sounds and rumbling vocals which are slowed down making the track stand out for its summery and chilled vibe, as opposed to an average EDM sound. ‘Waves’ was inspired by ‘a psychedelic winter walk through the streets of Paris’. Describing their sound by their own branded ‘cosmic-trap’, the duo have blended influences from classic artists such as Little Richard and Delroy Wilson, as well as taking some inspiration from modern hip hop idols like Outkast.

With a single track being so polished, Gosh Pith are showing talent way beyond their experience and are leaving listeners eager for more.

Via the go-to music network that is Soundcloud, Whitley Bay based band Lisbon have unveiled a brand new track. The track labelled ‘Native’ enables a quick look into the bands upcoming EP titled Life Is Good which is due for release at the end of October. It delivers the band’s alt-pop sound, mixing plucky guitars and electronic beats over lead singer Matthew Varty’s catchy chorus as he calls out ‘I’m not your native/Don’t complicate it.’

The EP is also set to feature the four-piece’s latest track ‘Rio’ which is released as a single on the 29th of this month. The single evokes the sense of youthful vigour and supplies a summery feel that will be well needed in the coming months. With a support slot booked for Chloe Howl’s Scala show and a main support gig for Eliza & the Bear’s UK tour, Lisbon are quickly to establishing themselves as a band who will join the rise of alt-pop with the likes of Two Door Cinema Club and Catfish and The Bottlemen.

If you are in the area, get down to Newcastle’s Riverside on the 25th of October to celebrate the EP release.

Dolomite Minor, a guitar and drums duo from Southampton, have just released a video for their new track ‘Let Me Go’. The track itself is featuring as a companion track for new single ‘Talk Like An Aztec’, where the two singles will act as a double A side. ‘Let Me Go”s video was directed by Mike Bruce (Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds) and perfectly fits the song’s gritty blues infused sound. A mash up video of random clips and live footage, the video is beautifully eerie, which basically sums up the song itself.

Having played storming sets at Reading and Leeds and The Secret Garden Party to name a few festivals and fitting in with other duos like Drenge and Royal Blood, Dolomite Minor’s dark rock is heading straight to the forefront of a rock revivalism.

Check out the band in a live scenario and you will be doubly impressed at their polished-mucky sound:

Deekline – Heartbreak

Premiering on Annie Mac’s Radio 1 show, Heartbreak is a quality house track that infuses a funky baseline with catchy guitar licks and short sharp vocal bursts. We’re immediately introduced to the bouncy upbeat tempo which is soon interrupted by a spout of percussion and jazzy guitar chords that build to a nice old fashioned drop – good work Deekline.

Gorgon City – Here For You (Bearcubs remix)

Now for a gorgeous chilled out remix of Here For You by the super talented Gorgon City. Gorgon have already taken the charts by storm with their break out track Ready For Your Love and Here For You is definitely just as good. Bearcubs (aka Jack Richie) has managed to get his paws on Here For You and transform a commercial summer anthem into something quite magical. Listeners prepare to be soothed by smooth synths and gentle guitar sounds wrapped round Laura’s stunning vocals

Lancelot feat Ngaiire – Ain’t Nothin’ Goin’ on But the Rent

I may be a little late to the party with this one but I’ve been totally captivated by the hypnotic chords and equally as mesmerizing video so I just had to share! Lancelot has successfully transformed an RnB golden oldie into a modern disco house track – jam packed with silky synths and toe tapping percussion. When listening to this track I definitely feel somewhat of a similarity to Disclosure but being a massive fan of theirs that’s always a good thing in my books. Ngaiire’s vocals are also top dollar so check out the vid:

Since its humble beginnings in 1998, Truck Festival has stayed exactly that – humble. It is a festival with a simple structure and an effortless feel about it. The festival is snuggled into the picturesque village of Steventon and resides on a farm, with cornfields fenced off around the main arena. This Oxfordshire festival revolves around the people and thrives on a sense of community, with even the majority food stands being run by the local Faringdon and Didcot Rotary Club. The atmosphere is welcoming and chilled, with few exclusive areas and benefits. It is a festival where everyone is treated fairly and artists don’t seem like elusive creatures, yet instead they blend into the crowd just like everyone else.

The festival is made up of five stages all pretty much all within 5 minutes of one another, which is great considering just how packed the line up is with exciting artists. The audience this year seems to be mainly youths and overexcited fangirls/guys, possibly due to the amount of young bands on the line up.

The first band to open up this year’s festival and the Market Stage is Haiku Salut. Unfortunately with such an early slot (11.45) and the campsite having only opened at 10, meant that next to know one was ready to watch the band, leaving the floor space pretty much empty. The next band up was Lost In The Riots who kicked off the Barn Stage (a stage literally set up in a barn). The crowd here was small too, but it seemed that it did not matter too much to the band as they played with such enthusiasm that they could of been playing to no one, or the biggest crowd imaginable. Over on the main stage, Habitats started the stage with plenty of summery tracks and bounce, evoking plenty of energy throughout the crowd. After this, the dancing continued throughout the whole day.

Acollective, a band from Israel, continued the playful beats on the main stage as they attracted an audience of mixed ages, who joined together for the small party at the front. The big band delivered complex music ranging in sound from acoustic to dub-like in the space of 10 seconds. Over on the Virgins and Veterans stage saw Chipping Norton band, Cassels take to the stage to deliver a noteworthy performance full of scratchy guitars and dark undertones. With just two instruments, the sound was impressive and full of strong intricate styles.

London based band, Big Deal brought the dreamy tracks to the main stage yet etched through a sense of grunge, particularly on tracks ‘Talk’ one of their more known songs and ‘Swapping Spit’ taken from their second album ‘June Gloom’. Their crowd were not necessarily the most dynamic of the day, but a lot of love seemed to be given to the band particularly from individuals who sang along to each and every song. From the moment Catfish and The Bottlemen stepped on stage, the full force of the crowd’s youthful exuberance was felt. Launching through big singles like ‘Kathleen’ and ‘Fallout’, the Llandudno band gave possibly the liveliest set of the day to perhaps the liveliest crowd of the day. Lead singer Van McCann appeared genuinely surprised and humbled by the size and devotion of their fans as he continuously thanked the crowd. The band are quickly becoming sought after in the festival circuit, as they left Truck later to travel the country to play both Latitude and Somersault Festival.

Coming from California, Deap Vally easily adjusted to the climate and proved to be the wisest act, as they were not wearing jeans and jackets like the other bands and therefore did not seem to be as affected by the heat. They smoothly played through tracks from their debut album ‘Sistorix’ filling a set with plenty of dirty guitar riffs and gritty drum solos. After Deap Vally there is a little serge to the Market Stage where Little Comets were starting their set. The tent was already brimming to the edges, forcing many people to stand or sit outside. Little Comets have been around for a little while now and have conquered a chilled sound which is yet so easy to dance to. Essentially Little Comets have a perfect festival sound and it looked like that everyone in the crowd agreed despite being crammed into a small sweaty tent.

Back at the main stage Welsh pop-punk band, Kids in Glasses Houses stepped out onto the stage. Ahead of their farewell tour, the band unleashed some powerful rock ballads here at Truck. Despite the lead singer begging the audience to ‘pretend it’s 2008’ (perhaps this was at the height of their career) and some ex emo-esque fans desperately attempting to start moshs in the young crowd, I think it is fair to say that perhaps the band are just not best suited to this particular festival. The next band to follow were Peace. A band that seem to be continuously blossoming in the industry, with an extreme following of devotees. The Birmingham quartet drew a huge crowd as they played through tracks from last year’s debut ‘In love’. However, new tracks ‘Money’ and ‘World Pleasure’ were possibly the highlights as they caused the real movement and vigour throughout the hoards of sweaty fans. It is fair to say the love they received as the sun went goes down over the stage, provided such a euphoric feel that this could easily have be the night’s headliner. But they are not.

It has been ten years since The Cribs first played Truck Festival on the Barn Stage and it is clear that they are more than suited to the bigger stage and time. As the lights lifted and the Yorkshire band appeared the crowd erupted into a full force of excitement. It was inevitably going to be a set full of affection and passion judging by from the crowds throughout the day. Here at Truck people do not seem to give a care about how they look or sound, instead everyone threw themselves into moves and belted out the lyrics along to the band’s indie anthems. Surprisingly with the crowd’s overall age seeming to be younger than the average Cribs fan, the big tracks like ‘Mirror Kissers’, ‘Hey Scenesters’ and ‘Men’s needs’ still gained the same amount of applause that they would of done in the past.

As the clouds began to lift and Saturday’s sun came out, the first band to take to the main stage were M+A. Considering the early slot, there didn’t seem to be that higher of an expectation for the band as Truckers seemed to have brought brunch to eat in front of the stage. This was a great mistake as many members of the crowd soon rose to dance to the EDM duo’s tracks. It’s no surprise that this band were the winner’s of this year’s Glastonbury’s emerging talent competition, as they attracted more and more people to get up and move as their set progressed. Later on the Barn Stage, Radstewart’s set was a set worth catching. They are a four piece from Wales with a sardonic sneer and a jolly 90s sound. They played a swift and cleanly executed set, yet there was a messy feel to it. Perhaps it is that when they began the sound was not what you expected or that the singer had an awkward stage presence. Either way it made for one of the best sets of the weekend for a smaller band.

Similarly to friends and fellow Brummies Peace, both Superfood and Swim Deep were lucky that the festival had attracted adolescent, playful fans as both bands caught considerable sized audiences, willing to attempt moshs and crowd surfs. Superfood brought their 90s groove to create bouncy movements and chirpy squeals amongst admirers. Tracks such as ‘TV’, ‘Bubbles’ and ‘Superfood’ proved to be favourites on the farm. Despite issues with sound management (bass too loud and vocals too quiet) Swim Deep managed to avoid storm clouds and brought sunshine for their set as they played through tracks from their 2013 debut ‘Where the heavens are we?’ with style and merry spirits.

Stornoway brought their folky, melodic cheer to the main stage and being a fairly local band they were greeted to a great ovation and many sing-alongs. This year’s festival closed with White Lies. The band delved into tracks from all three albums bringing out hearty choruses and morose tones that the crowd responded to with such eagerness. The band were more than modest about the crowd’s enthusiasm and the fact they had been given the opportunity to headline the festival. Older tracks like ‘Farewell to the Fairground’, ‘To Lose My Life’ and set closer ‘Bigger Than Us’ went down as specific treats both for the band and crowd due to the reception. White Lies proved to be a celebrated choice to end the Oxfordshire gathering.

With a cracking line up and cheap tickets, food and drink, it is fair to say that Truck is certainly cheap and cheerful.

After somewhat of a hiatus, a short interlude if you will, The Selection is back serving you a delicious dollop of house music with a side order of DJs all suitable for human consumption!

Tiga – Bugatti

Girl comes up to me and says what you driving? Bugatti…sadly not the car I drive, but perhaps if you’re a super cool DJ and your name is Tiga then you have Bugattis a’plenty. Played for for the first time at Glasto by Annie Mac, the track ‘Bugatti’ is a very catchy number that’s guaranteed to get stuck in your head. The audio effects used create a bassline that’s robotic and somewhat tinny and although that sounds wrong, trust me it’s so SO right. It went down a right treat when I first heard it on the dance floors of Dalston last weekend

Tom Misch – Memory

Now for some brand new music from a very talented new producer who’s only the tender age of 19! (thanks for making us all look bad Tom) ‘Memory’ is a gorgeous slow tempo track filled with the echo of steel drums, guitar riffs, soothing piano chords and a deliciously soulful vocal. Perfect for chilling out in the sun

FCL – It’s You (Mouse T’s Teef Vocal Mix)

I feel the heat, do you? Well you certainly should because not only is it scorchio outside but this is a very hot remix of FCL ‘It’s You’. Straight from the get-go are the beats, vocals and a low rolling baseline that builds until and we hear the introduction of muted guitar licks and some cheeky chords. Simple and seductive

Jonas Rathsman – Skepparkrans

My my, what a cracking track this is. Released by label French Express, ‘Skepparkrans’ is a soulful little number that fuses a synth-heavy melody with a high energy tempo guaranteed to get your toes tapping. Smooth vocals and high hats intertwine themselves throughout providing nothing less than straight up summer time goodness.

Reboot – Enjoy Music (Sonny Fodera Remix)

And finally for some deep house taken from one of my favourite labels – Defected. DJ Sonny Fodera first started out making hip hop music but fast forward in time and Sonny has produced some superb house choons including the massive ‘Everything You Want’ as well as getting his remixing hands on tracks from the likes of Huxley and Doorly.

Elsie may be a relatively underground artist at the moment, but ‘Mad Chemistry’ is meant to be played out loud for all to here.

When we first heard ‘<a href"https://www.danceyrselfclean.com/reviews/track-reviews/elsie-wild-one" target="_blank">Wild One‘ we were captivated by the strong, raw vocals and the simplicity of the lyrics.

This time Elsie has really challenged herself with the earthy vocals dabbed over synths and R&B beats. The gentle cry of ‘laser beams shooting from me to you, you to me, you and me’ wraps off the track with such energy that you immediately turn to the replay button. Like Elsie’s previous releases, the track is intensely sultry and would be ideal listening when the sun goes down. It’s softer than a club track, but would be perfectly suited to a late stage set at a sunny European festival.

‘Mad Chemistry’ once again proves that Elsie is not built for the small scene and that she is more than ready to be heard.

Birmingham favourites JAWS have happily announced details of their debut album, titled Be Slowly, which will be hitting the shelves September 15th.

Alongside this news they have unveiled the album’s title track due for release on 7th July. The track itself releases the energy that contrasts to perhaps some of the past tracks’ chilled-out feel, yet with Schofield’s airy vocals, ‘Be Slowly’ still echoes the band’s renowned summer feel. The track follows perfectly in the footsteps of their previous heavy-mellow escapist sounds.

The album itself (which track list follows) includes the four-piece’s singles ‘Surround You’, ‘Think Too Much, Feel To Little’ and ‘Gold’.

In addition to its initial wave of acts, Oxfordshire’s Truck Festival has unleashed a full line up, brimming with exciting new bands.

With White Lies and The Cribs set to headline, the festival organisers set up a ‘band app’ in which new bands could apply to perform. Bands such as Peace, Andrew W.K, Los Campesinos!, alongside BBC introducing, Truck themselves and a few others together picked 21 acts from a possible 1200 to perform.

Alongside the new bands, many known names have been added too. A few include: Little Comets, Dan Croll, Superfood, Deap Vally, Blood Red Shoes, Slow Club, Big Deal and Catfish and the Bottlemen. Unfortunately Brighton’s The Wytches have had to pull out.

With a line up bursting with fresh talent and with a helter skelter and Ferris wheel unveiled alongside the carnival theme, its set to be a fun packed weekend.

By way of tickets, the festival is way up on last year’s sales and therefore are looking for a sell out once again.

It’s not often you listen to a song once and then end up signing it repeatedly for the next two days. But after hearing Rosie Lowe‘s ‘Do The Right Thing’, that’s exactly what happened to me. I was captivated and desperately craving more. It was no surprise that the rest of the tracks on her new EP massively followed suit and before long I was playing all four tracks on a loop. Her haunting vocals and powerful melodies make for extremely captivating listening.

Catch her at Secret Garden Party and Bestival, as well as other UK festivals this summer.
