An irate Popcaan took to Twitter on Monday to taunt members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) after it emerged that he had been arrested and slapped with a number of traffic charges.

“Swear say unu go pan a big opps (operation) don’t?? Dummy’s (laughing emoticons)," the Unruly Boss teased.

Not satisfied, he posted a snide comment on Instagram about the leaking of his arrest to the media.

“Gi man few traffic ticket and try use it make news. F#%! weirdos. Hope unu get promotion," he raged.

He will have to appear before the Yallahs Traffic Court on June 3, 2021 to answer to multiple breaches of the Road Traffic Act after alleged ‘unruly' behaviour during a routine traffic stop conducted by the St Thomas police on Sunday afternoon.

Police reportedly intercepted Popcaan, who was reportedly travelling with his entourage in a nine-vehicle convoy in a section of Bath in the parish.

The entertainer, whose real name is Andre Sutherland, was found to be in violation of several aspects of the Road Traffic Act, and was hit with a litany of charges including driving an unlicensed motorcycle, driving without insurance coverage, having no valid certificate of fitness, having no registration plate affixed, driving without a helmet and driving with no side-view mirror. The deejay reportedly also failed to produce a driver’s licence.

The 'El Chapo' singer was almost apoplectic in his anger, as he also threatened not to host his annual Unruly Fest fundraiser concert as he felt unfairly targeted by the St Thomas cops.

“Not even feel like me a keep Unruly Fest a St Thomas again!!! Why am I being targeted by St Thomas police? In every move I make!! Me really tired a unu, and me ago just breeze St Thomas for my own good, hope my people will see things from side. Peace and love,” he ranted.

In the meantime, a man travelling as a part of the entourage was arrested and charged for having an offensive weapon. He has been identified as 39-year-old Andre Harrison of Bachelors Hall in the parish.

Harrison was offered $20,000 station bail and is to also appear before the St Thomas Parish Court on June 3.

Dancehall Queen Spice came through with another banger about undercover love with her latest single and visuals for Bruck It. The Cool It crooner is keeping busy as momentum builds for her first album, contributing to Konshens and Rvssian’s Pay For It last weekend, and this latest Jugglerz team up bright and early on Monday.

Bringing back the sneaky vibes of her 2010 track Jim Screechie, Spice pleads for privacy and pleasure on this purely sexual track.

Jugglerz, the Billboard-charting German amalgam (record label/sound system/production team) shakes things up with a throbbing beat for Spice’s too-rude bars. Having worked with the likes of Elephant Man and Konshens in the past, and more famously on the fierce riddim for Gage’s Good P—y Gyal, the group knows a thing or two about turning out a Dancehall hit.

Bruck It appears on their 2020 release, Dancehall Drumkit, a rocking suite of the genre’s most authentic sounds and trendiest stars from Busy Signal to Jahvillani and more.

Others were excited to see TC, Pretty Pretty, and Dancing Rebel, the dancers with whom Spice had a recent falling out in the Bruck It music video. It’s unclear whether the visual treatment was also done when Dancehall Drumkit dropped last year, but fans noted that the squad’s unmistakable chemistry added to the reel.

Dancehall star Jada Kingdom has been sued by her former management company, Pop Style Music Publishing over comments the singer made on Instagram.

In a lawsuit filed in the Supreme Court today (April 23), Jada Kingdom, whose real name is Jada Ashanti Murphy, is accused of libeling Pop Style and its principal during an Instagram Live video on April 13.

According to a statement released today, the Love Situations singer is being asked to pay damages, interest on damages, and to issue an apology for the statements she made in the live broadcast. The management company is being represented by attorneys Johnny Robertson, Ronald Young, Natalia Casado, and Sarah Hsia.

According to Jada Kingdom’s manager, “to hear her spew such libelous bile and defamatory untruths….is appalling and something she should be ashamed of.”

The statement reported that the lawsuit was a last resort after Kingdom and her attorneys failed to retract the comments that were made in the Instagram Live.

The genre-bending artist, who is known for songs like WiN, Heavy!, and Budum, revealed earlier this year that she would not be able to release new music in 2021 as she was “trying to just figure out mi space inna di industry.”

“I’m really sorry guys but it’s deeper than just me,” she said. “I don’t think you guys really understand when I say, ‘Yow, I don’t have a team’… The EP done, everything ready, but is a lot of politics a gwaan, a lot of f–kery a gwaan, it deeper than just music. It’s also music business and because a dat mi haffi wait so hopefully by summer mi can drop some music but if not, then next year. Mi hope unno stick around.”

MISS KITTY SUE'S THE 'V.I.P' ARTIST

Attorneys representing broadcaster Khadine 'Miss Kitty' Hylton have written to reggae-dancehall artiste One1Can threatening legal action over alleged defamatory remarks made by the entertainer in an article on a dancehall website.

In a pre-action letter sent to One1Can on Thursday, Miss Kitty, through Wilkinson Law, claims that allegations made by the entertainer of the pair once going on a date are “an outrageous lie”, and she's demanding a written apology from One1Can admitting that his allegations of a date were false and defamatory.

"Our instructions are that the statements highlighted (the entire article) are untrue and highly defamatory of our client. The said article with its defamatory comments has already been communicated to many persons. Further, many individuals have shared and re-shared the article/post with the likelihood that it might be communicated, potentially, to millions of people via the world wide web. This poses a serious threat to our client's personal and professional reputation," the lawyers wrote.

ONE1Can

The lawyers are also seeking damages for "the defamatory comments that have caused our client great distress and has affected her reputation adversely" and other untrue comments made.

If the apology is not produced and published online using the same forum, then the Wilkinson law firm will file proceedings in the Supreme Court on Friday, April 23 at 4:30 pm, the letter stated.

One1Can, whose real name is Milton Wray, is generating a buzz with his latest single, ‘V.I.P Girl’. The video which was released a month ago has racked up over 110,000 views.

The song name drops a number of female artistes including Shenseea, Tanya Stephens, Macka Diamond, Amari, Ishawna, Spice, Lila Iké, Yanique Curvy Diva, Etana, Lady Saw and Koffee.

“The song is a true phenomenon, a lot of people have given me great feedback and it’s been added to the playlist of IRIE FM, Mello FM and other stations. It can only get bigger, people love the concept, the delivery and the humour,” he said.

On the song, One1Can declares he wants a V.I.P girl, and more specifically, a famous woman, as he “wants a celebrity wife inna mi life”.

DOUBLE CHARGE FOR BEENIE MAN

Dancehall superstar Moses ‘Beenie Man’ Davis pleaded guilty to a breach of the curfew, contrary to the Disaster Risk Management Act (DRMA) order, when he appeared before the St Elizabeth Parish Court in Black River, St Elizabeth on Monday.

"Beenie Man pleaded guilty to the breach and we will be going back to court on May 14th to make a final plea in mitigation. On that date, Beenie Man will be sentenced, and he is likely to be fined. We will now have the opportunity to lay out the circumstances why it should not be a heavy fine," attorney-at-law Roderick Gordon, who is representing Beenie Man in this matter, told Loop News.
"Beenie Man pleaded guilty because he wanted to take a responsible approach given that he is an elder of the global music community," Gordon added.
Earlier this year, the 'Who Am I' deejay had pleaded not guilty when he first appeared before the court in February to answer the charges that stemmed from an alleged illegal party in late November 2020. At that time, his bail was extended.
In court on Monday, the Crown dropped the charge relating to the Noise Abatement act which had suggested that the deejay had failed to obtain permission from the Superintendent, contrary to the Noise Abatement Act. Gordon was pleased when the Crown indicated they would not be pursuing this charge.
"We had regarded the Noise Abatement Act charge as the more significant one because it suggested he had not applied for a permit, suggesting he was somehow having music played without proper permission and without paying the fee and that is not the case, so we were very pleased that the Crown withdrew that charge," Gordon said.
The DRMA was amended by the House of Representatives on March 23 and individuals found in breach of the health protocols now face fines ranging from J$3,000 to J$500,000. A J$10,000 fine is imposed for failure to stay inside a place of residence during a curfew.
The 47-year-old singer’s promotion of a subsequent New Year’s Eve party in December further earned the ire of police in St Elizabeth. He was summoned to a police station in the southwest Jamaica parish on New Year's Eve, and was charged for breaching protocols with the November 29 party.

Beenie Man had been slapped with the two charges in connection to an illegal party in the Shrewsbury district of St Elizabeth on November 29. The Black River police turned up at the party, dispersed the crowd, and Beenie was warned for prosecution.

'MISSING YOU', SAYS SHANEIL MUIR & JAH CURE

Shabdon Records and Ojayonthebeat have joined forces towards the Reggae Falls Riddim project which features Grammy nominated singer Jah Cure and rising sensation Shaneil Muir with their single ‘Missing You’.

Missing You, the lead single from the project, is scheduled to be released on Thursday, April 14. A video was shot by Bling Blang for the song at the Blue Lagoon in Portland.

“This is my first reggae track and I’m happy that my fans can hear a different side to me as a creative artiste,” said Muir.

Muir said the inspiration for the song came from a personal experience from a past relationship and what she has observed in her peers' relationships.

"You can’t live with them and you can’t live without them,” Muir said, smiling.

In the meantime, in a joint statement, Ojayonthebeat and Shabdon said Reggae Falls Riddim "can be described as outer space with a calm river flow in the forest... So it has this space element sounds with reggae drum and bass. Not the typical reggae but cross over fusion."

The producers added, “We were actually sitting and thinking about a River vibes and elements of nature and deep space sounds put. This isn’t a normal reggae beat. It’s more filled with EDM selected synth sounds fused with reggae drum patterns and feel."

Shabadon said he expects the track "to reach its global potential as Jah Cure is famous for his part in reggae music and Shaneil Muir is a new sensation who has a lot to offer to the industry. Putting these two together on a track I’m confident it will be impactful.”

Distribution of the song will handled by Hapilos and will be available via all downloadable platforms.

JAMAICA'S QUARANTINE DANCE XPLOSION 2021 FOR US$5,000

“Everybody can dance, but a nuh everybody is a dancer”

But locked away because of the corona virus pandemic, a lot of Jamaicans have been forced to confine themselves to dancing in their homes and in their yards as the dancehalls and clubs have all been closed. But now, you and your friends can unleash that ‘inner-dancer’ in a contest where you can even win prize money.

Enter the ‘Quarantine Dance Xplosion 2021 Online Competition’ organised by the US-based entertainment firm Up A Hill Management, where you can get your groove on as part of a dance group, and win US$5,000 in prize money.

Up a Hill Management is seeking 14 dance groups in Jamaica to compete in an online dance competition. The contest is open to dance groups comprising three to six persons, and all age groups residing in and outside of Jamaica. Entries are accepted in the categories of Roots Reggae, Dancehall, Reggae Contemporary/Classic, Reggae Dancehall, Dance Narrative, traditional folk forms, hip hop, jazz, modern contemporary, ballet, and even ballroom dancing.

“Everyone likes to dance, Caribbean people are a cultural community, we can appreciate the different dance styles available over the world, so this contest is open to everyone who fits the criteria, all age groups,” Janet Sinclair, chief executive officer of Up a Hill Management, said.

The registration process began April 2, 2021 and closes at 12 midnight on May 20th. It requires applicants to download and fill out the online registration form from www.upahillmanagement.com and send it along with their audition video to Upahillmanagement@gmail.com.

A panel of three professional judges — graduates of Edna Manley College for the Visual Arts — will vet the videos and choose 14 dance groups from the applicants. Contestants who are chosen will be informed via email.

“The dance competition is the thing that gave life to dancehall in communities all over the globe. It has come in many different forms, and each one has made its own stamp in history, and that’s what this contest is about. The blood, sweat, and tears that goes into the choreography of a dance competition, we will document it all on our youtube channel, this why we love it, why we do it, the struggles we face, and what it’s really about,” Sinclair said.

Each week of the contest, two groups will submit their videos via email and it will be uploaded to the Up A hill Management YouTube channel. The fans will vote for the videos and the group with the most votes will advance to the next round. This will continue for seven weeks until seven groups remain. The contest officially begins May 22, 2021 and ends August 21, 2021.

“We will be using social media influencers to promote the competition.. also news media and radio stations…enter, dance, get your groove on,” Sinclair said.

With his mandate to showcase the Jamaican dancehall culture on international streaming platforms, Downsound Records (DSR) CEO Josef Bogdanovich has thrown his muscles behind the new reality web series Dancehall Life.
Dancehall Life premiered on Sunday April 11 on Kingston Signal’s official YouTube channel.
“The reality series is about the day in the life of these three influential ladies of dancehall, who amongst other things are known for their dancing skills,” Bogdanovich explained.
The cast includes dancers Keticia “TC’ Chatman, Christina ‘Dancing Rebel’ Nelson and Tashlieka ‘Pretty Pretty’ Laird.
Said Bogdanovich: “We did a pilot series to see how it went, and afterwards, we have a three- month plan. Moving forward will depend on what the response is like. These girls are very interesting and we are hoping their fan base will find them as interesting and entertaining as we did.”
Bogdanovich, who is also the executive producer for Dancehall Life, is known for his involvement in several entertainment ventures through the years. His Downsound Records label has piloted the careers of several artistes while producing many hit songs.
Through the Downsound Entertainment Group, Bogdanovich made a major move in 2016 when he acquired the rights to Reggae Sumfest, the Greatest Reggae show on earth. Prior to that investment, he gave marketing and financial support to the 2012 and 2013 staging of Sting.
Bogdanovich is also a major shareholder of the KLE Group, operators of the Usain Bolt Tracks & Records.
He explained his decision to pursue his latest venture.
“I added Dancehall Life to my growing list of entertainment offerings because these type series are quite the rage right now. Everyone is streaming on platforms like Netflix, and Apple music etc. These reality type shows are somewhat replacing regular movies and our objective is to get this program syndicated on some of these platforms,” said Bogdanovich

THE RISE OF JAHVEL, MUSICAL ENTERTAINER

You might have heard a few hot songs recently, as this artist quickly rises to the mainstream and becomes a household name for most people. Jahvel is no newbie to the music industry and brings a strong presence, along with harmonies, good concepts and melodies to last a lifetime.

WHERE IT ALL BEGUN

Born July 27th 1995, Javan Burrell, where music was a talent running through Jahvel’s blood.Jahvel’s father and grandfather are well known reggae artists; Culture Dollar who is his father and his grandfather- the in the legend icon of Roland Burrell – Also known as Mr Johnny Dalla. Jahvel has now come to bring a new lane of reggae music for the current generation to enjoy.

THE JOURNEY

In the early stages of his career he was known as J. Blacks, but later decided to add part of his given middle name to derive with his current stage name as Jahvel-which means ‘Gift Of God’, later adding ‘Di Bless One’ after realizing that he is the first born and only son for both parents.

At the age of 12, Jahvel wrote his first official song called “baby I love you”, while he was still attending high school (Newell High School), he was deemed the most talented student attending the school at that time. At the age of 18, he built his own recording studio, called 'Talent Squad Records' and started recording songs while doing his engineering (mixing, mastering,etc).

At age 20, Jahvel started to receive recognition in the music industry when he released his first single, "Nah Dead Poor” on iTunes, Amazon and 32 other music platforms, the single received worldwide exposure and great feedback, with radio air plays on several local and international radio stations including; Hot 102 FM, Irie FM, Zip FM. His second release "Keep Me Calm" was released a year later.

HIGHLIGHTS

Jahvel has had a number of media appearances in his career thus far, like performances on Smile Jamaica, interviews with Intense and staged performances in Trinidad which all received positive feedback, including a recent interview with Pelpa Time TV highlighting his musical career and upcoming projects.

ACHIEVEMENTS & FUTURE PLANS

Jahvel have been working with several record labels while on the musical rise, these include; Streetz Boss Entertainment, Likkle Peppa Records and Dj Treasure Records. A major musical milestone was achieved when he signed his first international record deal with Hamage Records Canada; A Dancehall/Reggae/Urban record label located in Canada, with whom he has also released a number of singles including his first critically acclaimed single “Brace it” which has achieved huge success on digital media platforms and streaming platforms worldwide. He have managed to achieve these numbers again with his second single released with Hamage Records, “ADENI”. This single has received worldwide airplay and created traction on social media platforms.

The label’s first studio album AXUM is out now and features the following tracks performed by Jahvel; “Axum”, “ADENI”, “Boasy”, “Live Right” and “Naa Start and Stop”. Jahvel has had a wide range of successful singles in the recent years, including his single “My God' prod. by Streetz Boss Ent. and some of his most recent singles include “Golden Style”, “Fresh” and “Every Pree”. Jahvel has a new collaboration with dancehall artist BlakkMan and is currently working on the music video for ADENI. He is also working on his debut album EUPHONY, produced by Hamage Records Canada. The future is bright for Jahvel as he plans to do more collaboration with his family and fellow artists to show the vitality and versatility within the music industry.

V'Licious, birth name 'Vanessa', is an UK reggae and dancehall artist who was born and raised in the musically rich garrison community of Waterhouse, in Kingston Jamaica. She has always been surrounded by music and as one of the younger siblings, she was designated entertainer at family gatherings and small functions.

After migrating to the UK in 2002 it took some time for her to embrace her musical calling but in 2012 she recorded her first track. She quickly became one of the preferred go to supporting acts in the reggae and dancehall community and have performed as opening act for several well-known artist including; Macka Diamond, Alkaline, Gage, I Wayne and Gully Bop.

In 2013, V'Licious was awarded 'Best UK Female Artist' by Crystal Blue Sound and was later nominated for the same category at the 'DIA' .

The recording artist have been recording songs for awhile but recent releases has deemed a bright future for the artist, though she has not yet signed a deal with any record labels or publisher, since 2021 she has been working with record labels like Kofi Brain Music and Streetz Boss Entertainment who plays major roles in some of her most recent releases including; 'Me And You' , 'The Best' and 'Bubble'
