Love this font, and the many others that are featured in this month’s MyFont’s Rising Stars Newsletter. I’m thinking I’m going to treat myself to some new fonts in early 2012 after I finish reading Sitepoint’s HTML5 and CSS3 for the Real World, and Designing with Web Standards 3rd Edition.

Cassia is another gorgeous typeface with bazillions of uses!

Wonder if the traditional square CD cover art digitized will evolve with digital music models. Song artwork? Song video? Song video with lyrics?

There has been lots of innovation around the creation and delivery of music digitally, but this is one piece that has come along for the ride. Surely the experience has more potential!

On this fall day, I received another new and wonderful issue of Rising Stars from myfonts.com. This and Ascender’s are my favorite typeface email newsletters because they have such a heavy showcase factor. Today a rising star that really stood out to me was Emil Kart Bertell’s Mishka.

Although many would count me as a tomboy with my passion for tinkering under my car hood, I seem to have a pretty feminine streak in my design work. Isn’t balance what life’s all about? This font also has vintage applications which interests me and seemingly many others right now. Also, the glyphs are delicious.

I’d love to see what typefaces are inspiring you lately, and what you’re making with them! If anyone makes anything with Mishka any time soon please share that as well. If I do, be sure I’ll be posting.

In the middle of designing a quick reminder for my office wall. Been feeling very sluggish in the workout department lately.

I suppose this goes without saying, but instead of 100% of the effort and discussion being around agreeing on standards in the new browsers, I feel more progress could be made faster in the world of  browser hell if someone could also invent a solution for assisting in upgrading browsers, innovations could be adapted quicker and we could put less resources into so much cross browser testing and effort (and dying inside).

The last time I cared enough to open and test IE6 in VMware Fusion, after installing Windows updates, I saw a red bar at the top of IE6 windows with an alert to update the browser. I thought this was a good idea toward this, but a small effort on the scale of things.

More than talking about why it’s a good idea to update, getting the message to those every day users who really have no idea is the real challenge. Until it’s 100% (or close) widespread knowledge or easier to do (I like how WordPress updates so easily…) the numbers will spread out with each upgrade and leave more behind relatively.
