The word technology refers to the making, modification, usage, and knowledge of tools, machines, techniques, crafts, systems, and methods of organization, in order to solve a problem, improve a preexisting solution to a problem, achieve a goal, handle an applied input/output relation or perform a specific function.

The word technology also has a definition that refers to the sum of ways in which social groups provide themselves with the material objects of their civilization. For the purposes of this post we will parallel this definition and apply accordingly.

Five years ago the words ctrl, alt, shift and save could have meant a military weapons exercise movement instead of a common energetic physical action on my computer. Tumblr, twitter, vlogs were not a language generally practiced in my world. Screen captures were obviously movies trailers that highlighted a specific scene within the story lines, and how does one bubble tweet? I still haven’t figured out that process.

It’s not that I don’t appreciate and enjoy these new techno applications as a matter of fact my cell phone never leaves my side. A jeweled cover with a neck chain now adorns my iPhone so it’s easily accessible for those urgent messages from David Archuleta via Kari. New tweets, retweets, quote tweets and the ever prominent Direct Message for those personal comments to or from your BFF tweeters have become necessary communication channels. Trending is the front page of the web checking the pulse of the nation and letting you know what’s happening, but be careful there is also twitter jail. I imagine my twitter avatar being held hostage until I promise not to mention David Archuleta #2014 for a least five minutes. How unreasonable! Censorship is not cool!

Why would they feel we need a break on tweeting about David? It’s basically the same we talk about, his hair, i.e. fluffy, short, and long, his big smile always present, his eyes, the golden speckles and how beautiful they are. Of course, his voice is like no other and his clothes take an overall twitter or two to describe.

Videos and pictures are mainstream David Archuleta conversation topics……..we don’t have enough pictures of David at concerts or Book/CD events so we collage pictures and use instagram to enhance them. My personal opinion David needs no enhancing and I like the pure shot you can get from your camera without the embellishment. Artistically and creatively I see the desire and the necessity in many posters and ads for effectiveness of merchandising.

Pictures are our life blood as much as his concert videos and I have learned quickly to master the Save Image As button on my computer. Youtube downloading has also been a challenge at times, why do they keep changing the format? I just figure out where everything is and how it works and then they make it better, or so they say. Save Image As is always present and keeps David’s pictures readily available and at a right click moment I know I can always view, copy and save them quickly.

Looking back a few years my transistor radio provided me with the enjoyment of all the music I hungered for with a countdown. The radio, what a relic and the 9 volt battery that needed to be replaced quite often was expensive back then. Leaving it on all night under my pillow didn’t help……there was no just charging it like we do today with our iPods. I can tell you that if David was a singer back then he would have been on the radio and his music would have played every day. I miss having his good music not in the forefront of the radio media industry.

Who would have thought that a sweet 16 year old with an Angel voice and a heart of gold would change the life of so many people? I love David Archuleta, I know that word is thrown around quite often and perhaps to some it doesn’t always hold the same connotation as it once did. We love food, places, things, and people but not in the same way.

Love is expressed as an action and experienced as a feeling. Yet, love has an essence that resists defining in any single way; it encompasses compassion, determination, endurance, support, faith, and much more. Love cannot be pigeonholed it's never just or only one thing; it happens whenever your heart is open to receiving beauty and wonder of people, things and events around you.

I admire David Archuleta, I am in awe of him for he has a strong sense of values that he refuses to bend or break and maintain his integrity regardless of his celebrity status; and in the midst of setbacks has accomplished his dreams with humility.

Fans expectations may not be his as there are many who hope he changes when he returns from his mission. David is excited to learn who he will become when he returns; will he be different, of course, will he loose the qualities we all admire? I think not. I like David just the way he is and prefer to say I am interested in seeing David pass from one phase to another and develop as any young man would give the same life’s experiences. My expectations are to allow him to be himself, accept him as he is, not as many may want him to be.

Less than one year away and we will have the opportunity to find out the road David will take and no matter which direction he takes my internal GPS will support and follow.

This song is about savoring those precious memories of time well spent with the ones you love in this life.

“Fields of Gold” is a 1993 song by Sting from his album “Ten Summoner’s Tales.” In January 1996 Eva Cassidy recorded “Fields of Gold” at Blues Alley which was well received when it was released in May 1996. Sting’s recording was brought to life with Eva’s soul stirring cover with pure vocals and her own guitar arrangement. It was six months later that Eva Cassidy succumbed to melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer.

The world needed to hear Eva Cassidy’s voice so a determined group of people posthumous released a studio album, “Eva By Heart”. A year later a California record company compiled music from all three of her CD’s and named it “Songbird” which was released internationally and became a posthumous success.

It was at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics when David Archuleta was eleven he first heard “Fields of Gold’, sung by Eva Cassidy as Michelle Kwan skated her magnificent performance.

As he listened to Eva sing with emotion and sensitivity, a young David became drawn to an artist that would become a major influence musically and teach him how a song can be sensitive and lyrically expressive.

Eva’s spiritual quality poured out in song with a sense that she was given a gift that was meant to be shared, to be passed on to others. David has embraced her quality through the shear depth and passion that his music evokes with the ability to open our hearts to the majesty of our Maker.

The first time I heard David sing “Fields of Gold” it was his control and phrasing that was spellbinding, and the connection in his vibrato, timing, and a volume of his voice that was beyond tangible earth.

There is something about his voice that’s personal…..his voice is a kind of audible kiss.

He brought sweetness and a delicacy to “Fields of Gold.” His voice encompasses such a deep range of emotions and there’s a great intelligence and wisdom in his singing.

His voice is so pure and full of emotion I cry each time I hear this song. He brings new depth with his soul stirring vocals and mesmerizes you while he put his incredible heart and soul into every word with such emotion he brings you to tears.

A pure and innocent yearning in his voice cuts through to your soul. There’s richness to his voice and clarity to all of his inflections.

The measure of a great singer is getting a message across and inspiring us. David is a master at never leaving you untouched, there is always something in the humanity of his voice.

Rosanne Simunovic's Recollections

In reviewing this beautiful performance by David, I must confess that I never heard this song before. Well, as the saying goes: "There is no time like the present" and what a present this was to my heart and soul.

I am not surprised that the late Eva Cassidy was a source of inspiration for David. She sang from a place so deep, so profound, so spiritual that it was hard for any artist to try and capture the identical emotional impact of this song - or any of her songs - in performance.

Except for David.

Yes, in performing this song, David travels deep inside his soul, selflessly sharing with us his deepest thoughts and emotions.

Vocally, this was David at his best - impeccable phrasing, long, stretched and cohesive phrases and keen vocal focus.

His head voice, whether pure or full, was always front and center. The song rests extremely high in his vocal range, but one never senses that David has to strain or "reach for" the notes.

Rather he sings "over" the upper notes, moving them forward toward his vocal masque and, then, toward his listeners.

As a result, his vocal projection is consistent, always basking in the glow of the forward momentum that is so integral to the ebb and flow of any song, especially a ballad.

My only disappointment was that I could not understand the lyrics and had to search for them online. The video featured above, although most welcome, didn't really capture the full extent of his vocal performance. As a result, the lyrics were unclear, especially in the first half.

Nonetheless, David performed this song with sensitivity and finesse. And, although this is not a complex song, it is one that is meant to inspire and move us. It is extremely spiritual in nature and, through David's inherent soulful nature, this song has found a new home, a new messenger in him.

As the music business struggles to identify financial models, artists are taking their career into their own hands. It’s all about going with the flow and knowing when it’s time to stand up and claim the life that belongs to you.

Presently David Archuleta is connected to E1 Music an independent record label in the United States. It is widely regarded as the top independent US record label, having garnered the most Billboard hits of any independent record label in history. Its four primary businesses are E1 Television, E1 Films, E1 Music and E1 Entertainment Distribution, which collectively represents film, television, music, and kid’s content. E1 Music covers all musical genres from adult-contemporary to rock urban to country, children’s to classical.

E1 Music also streams on SoundCloud an online audio distribution platform that allows collaboration, promotion and distribution of audio recordings by users. Its intention is to allow musicians to share recordings with each other and to distribute their music tracks. It also allows artist to interact more nimbly with their fans.

Three elements that make music successful are a goal, a plan, and a team. David seems to be on the right tract.

He will be prepared to bring it back with the same energy, passion and excitement that became his hallmark. Wowing new and old fans in epic concerts that will show how he can have his artistry into a magnificent music machine. It’s all David fans need to stoke the fires of their devotion.

His art form connects with fans and the demand for his music is always going to be present. His singing has the power to express love and you can hear this from his heart.

His voice is so versatile that he can sing just about any genre including gospel, blues, ballads and pop. Songs can tell the story of the lyricist but they also tell the story from the listener’s imagination.

I don’t have any other information except that it is going to beyond anyone’s imagination. We will just have to wait a few more months for the unveiling to begin. It will be time to continue his dream of music; hopefully he will be ready to give his fans what they’ve been missing.

While David takes inspiration from the past (AI) he lives for the future moving forward to greater things. It just depends on what his life may bring surprises perhaps, the very least it allows fans to dream of what might to come.

The private David seems as he appears to the public; a quiet self-effacing young man who considers his singing abilities as strictly tertiary to his family and his faith. He is widely respected for both his professional standards and the conduct in his personal life. Occasionally someone like David comes along and won’t go with the flow and still prevails in spite of all the others who surround him and importune him to yield to their values.

David Archuleta is unique and the core of his significance as an artist is his amazing voice and emotional commitment to his songs.

It will be exciting to see what David has in store for 2014!

The Sounds of David Luncheon and Fan Mixer

If you missed The Sounds of David Luncheon and Fan Mixer on Saturday April 6, 2013 it was an amazing event experienced with many great performers. Michael Orland and Dorian Holley took to the stage with “Man in the Mirror” and “My Funny Valentine” and Sunny Hilden our MC gave us “Dream Sky High.”

Newport Platinum Dance Academy provided us with three dancers, Stefani, Sarah and Nicole performing to David’s “Zero Gravity” and Aaron from TJ project with a little help from the audience played “Crush” on his Guitar. Mariner’s Elementary School Choir added their talents by singing “Nandito Ako” and their exuberant rendition of “Elevator”, was adorable. Our special guest speaker LDS President Brad Bowen gave us some insight on the sacrifices missionaries, including David make to serve on a two year mission. Videos from Dean Kaelin and Rosanne (MasterClass Lady) were highlights to the afternoon.

Added to the excitement Kari Sellars dropped by with guest Jon Hunt who co-wrote “Broken” with David. She mentioned through some tears how David will be back better than ever in 2014.

But the shining stars were the children being sponsored from ChildFund International and those hospitalized at CMN Hospital (CHOC in Orange). Guests sponsored many children and “Archubears” for a minimum donation were adopted and named by guests for those kids at CHOC Hospital. I applaud the volunteers who took time out of their daily lives to man the charity tables. Christine with Marilyn from ChildFund, and Maggie and Deborah from CMN Hospitals thank you for joining us.

I received great feedback from Kate Nare Marketing Specialist from ChildFund Int. “Hi Pam, I heard from our volunteers that the David Archuleta event went very well. They sent me photos of the ChildFund table and it looked great.”

From Maggie Irias, Development Coordinator - CMN Hospital (CHOC). “Hi Pamela, Thanks so much for having us, I truly had a blast and learned so much more on David’s sounds. The Archubears were a hit! Choc is very grateful for all your efforts and once again, thank you – thank you!”

As the afternoon unfurled it was apparent everyone was having a good time and I was grateful for the opportunity to support David Archuleta and shadow a little of his big heart and give back to those in need.

There is also a group of young teenagers who spent hours decorating, setting up and show casing the live auction items Carissa, Taylor, Savannah, Tatum and Jen. The Sounds of David Committee and I thank them for their hard work and their efforts to focus on the charities and honor David Archuleta and his music. David will need young fans like these when he returns to music in 2014.

Various others need our Thanks such as Peter Rodriguez our DJ, Saul Dahli our sound engineer, Andre with Los Angeles Film Institute and many vendors and donors who contributed items for auction. Also I wish to Thank Kelly Herbst our Marriott planner for all her hard work and patience.

My job would not be finished if I didn’t Thank a group of women who donated personal time from family, work and free time to fulfill a vision. They timelessly mulled over outlines, drafts, suggestions, pictures, ideas, dates, constant changes, long meetings, texting, phone calls and the 3:00 AM emails. They are part of the heart that beats within me, special women who love and promote David’s music and honor David the man. Thank you Cass, Julie, Lily and Madison for all your support and hard work and know you will forever be in my heart!

“Be Still My Soul” is a popular revival hymn written by Katharine von Schlegel (1697–1768) and translated into English by Jane L. Borthwick (1813–1897). The music was composed by Jean Sibelius, from his music “Finlandia.” His music is characterized by a nationalistic spirit along with poetry, often evoking his homeland’s majestic charm. The scripture reference of this hymn is found in Psalm 46:10; “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

David has blessed us with this beautiful hymn on several occasions, at his concerts, firesides and also included in David’s album “Begin” released last August 7, 2012 which he again sends tingles down your spine as his genius is spotlighted with this song.

In my review of “Begin” I stated:

His “Be Still My Soul” comes deep from the depth of his spirituality, his voice shines and soars and drives straight to the center of your heart. He sings with a conviction of his place in heaven, and perhaps his pace in singing history. The emotions David arouses and masters with this song establish his connection to his music and his faith.

I’m always struck by the depth of his lyrics and the honesty of his sound. One of the things that set certain singers apart from others is the distinctiveness of their voice. They are just unique, that was the thought I had while listening to David Archuleta. He has a tremendous talent and spirit and every note is perfect.

I still remember the first time I heard David sing this song. I was immediately gripped with the beauty of his vocals and how he reveals his real heart of worship. His tone makes you feel every word he sings and while he is immersed in the music it gives you a glimpse of the sheer majesty of his voice.

There are other hymns that David has used to touch our hearts at different times, but Be Still My Soul is one shinning start at the top of the list.

This song is breathtakingly glorious, always lifts my spirits and gently places me in the presence of God. It encourages us to trust God’s faithfulness and favor toward us, even in life’s darkest circumstances.

Singing is one of the great blessings of our worship together and the scriptures stress the importance of singing with “understanding.”

David more than any one of us knows this simply must not be forgotten.

Rosanne Simunovic's Recollections

The first time I heard David sing this gorgeous hymn, I truly felt that I was in Heaven. His voice caressed the simple but expansive vocal line in a deeply soulful manner and the words resonated with me long after the song was over.

I have since listened to the song many, many times and have been moved to tears each and every time.
The song is not a difficult song to learn - the melody is a simple one and repeats from verse to verse.
However, what makes this performance truly special is the expressive manner in which David delivers the message contained in each verse.

By doing so, one never gets the feeling that we are listening to the same melody from verse to verse. Rather, we are taken on a very spiritual, very emotional journey, one that only David and his God-given voice can create for us.

Featured as one of the tracks on David's luscious new album, "Begin", this song takes on new life with the addition of a lovely cello and piano accompaniment.

How I love the sound of a cello - the plaintiff sound coming from this instrument just heightens the sense of tranquility and peace one feels while listening to this number.

And I was so taken with the soulful ad lib section, where David freely repeated "Be Still My Soul", using his vocal gift to heighten the quiet intensity of this song.

Which brings me to another point - David never, ever over sings. He sings, passionately -yes, but he always has respect for the lyrics and the music. He sings as he would speak, with sustained inflection and nuance. And always with heartwarming sincerity.

As I write this article and listen to this song, all my worries and concerns just melted away. Thank you David for bringing this song to my attention and for communicating it to your listeners in such a special and meaningful way.

David Archuleta Retrospective Series Part Thirteen: My Kind of Perfect

“My Kind of Perfect” is a song from the album “The Other Side of Down” which was released on October 5, 2010 and co-written by David Archuleta. It is a gorgeous ballad about looking at the inside of a person for love and one of the best tracks off his album.

This song just makes you want to smile, a cute bittersweet heart on your sleeve long song. He has a captivating voice and the piano adds adorableness. David has clear crisp vocals with perfect pitch and he delivers charm and sparks as he reaches every emotional peak.

On January 16, 2011 David performed “My Kind of Perfect” at the Skate for the Heart event with ice skater Joannie Rochette. It was a dreamy performance with his vocals front and center that showcased his talent and charisma.

He took the spotlight for a gorgeous rendition and he stirred my heart……..his sincere tenderness and depth of emotion was very moving. David sings ballads better than any other male singer around and the moment he opens his mouth he makes you feel like he’s singing his heart out only to you.

In an interview David said, “It’s my perfect love song”, it’s for a future girl who I don’t know yet. I wrote that song while thinking about who is she going to be? Or have I already met her?

I hear such beauty when he sings and from a place that lets anyone know the depths of how he feels. David’s impeccable diction gives life and meaning to each word, sensitively enhancing the lyrics. It’s a pleasure to see a singer take such joy in performing.

David often seems to be completely absorbed by the music as he closed his eyes. David accomplished his mission of spreading love and gives his audience a special magic that leaves you holding back tears of deep emotions. David is enchanting and steals your heart.

Rosanne Simunovic's Recollections

I was so taken with this exquisite performance from David Archuleta, in the company of Olympic Bronze Medalist, Joannie Rochette.

Joannie mirrored David's seamless, soulful voice as she skated with expressive finesse and innate musicality. It was so lovely to watch, the entire performance being extremely moving.

What I love about David is that he is never afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve. He always sings with genuine passion and liberated expressiveness.

So many artists nowadays do not understand this level of nuanced creativity and, as a result, we are left feeling empty when we hear or see them perform.

However, through his beautifully written composition, David not only highlighted the radiant beauty of his voice but also exposed a very real aspect or longing in his personal life - finding the perfect partner to share his hopes and dreams.

And how his voice soared throughout this number. His head voice was so pure, so focused. David possesses the capability to add depth to his falsetto range during the stronger dynamic levels and yet magically can soften the sound while still maintaining the ringing purity of his vocal tone. It is pure magic.

I was also very impressed with the control David exhibited throughout this song. There are some wide interval jumps from top to bottom and it is a testament to David's technical skills that he was able to seamlessly catapult his voice throughout the melody line.

And his phrasing! Oh my word - it was so cohesive. His musical line always moved in a forward direction, with momentum and passion.

His breathing skills are impeccable. Once cannot ask for better from any singer and David has proven time and again that both technique and artistry can share the stage if properly balanced.

For, in the end, the artistry has to shine during the performance. The technique is there for guidance and support - not to steal the show. The artistry must be front and center and, with David, this has never, ever been a problem. He is a master at what he does - a veritable singing artist.

This was most definitely "my kind of perfect" song, soulful singing at it's very best.

“Something ‘Bout Love” is the official first single by singer-songwriter David Archuleta from his second pop album The Other Side of Down which was released on October 5, 2010. The music video for the song premiered on August 5, 2010. Declan Whitebloom directed the video who also directed Crush back in 2008.

Something ‘Bout Love is an infectious up-tempo, modern heartfelt dance tune. This is exactly the type of song I love to hear on the radio a fresh upbeat tune that gets stuck in your head. Of course, David vocals you can always count on with a falsetto to die for. It has a techno flavor added in with a pulsating beat, and has a great melody.

The lyrics give the song substance and as David promised in an interview with Billboard the songs on this album would contain more “lively grooves” than his previous album. Something ‘Bout Love was age appropriate, spoke about love but not overly sexual like many songs by artists today. It’s a toe tapping catchy tune one that you want to replay over and over again.

David twittered about filming the video and noted, “The clip is plotted to have “young live and good times style concept.” David had commented that “Most of the songs on the album represent thoughts and experiences that I’ve personally gone through, “he said. “I hope this album helps people understand more of where I’m coming from as an artist and as a person. It’s about moving forward in life, making progress in accomplishing your goals and dreams while appreciating what life has given you.”

David sang the song with great ease and style with quality and versatility. The song is easy to fall in love with. It’s a very inspiring song that can make you laugh and cry; a very soulful and expressive song that has the power to give you strength and hope.

David is no lightweight he never loses touch with the source of the soul. The dimensions of David’s own musical intelligence are quite evident and you can detect more of him in the mix this time around.

It achieved top 4 peak position at the Under Hot 100 and no. 48 at the US Pop Airplay. This single/video was the perfect song for David’s stunning vocals and the message that you shouldn’t give up on love is expressed in his emotions at every part of this song.

I love this song and David’s message to take a chance on “Something ‘Bout Love.”

Rosanne Simunovic's Recollections

While watching the YouTube video performances of "Something 'Bout Love", the first thing that immediately struck me about this number was its high degree of difficulty.

Yes, it is a pop song and it is upbeat, fun and contagious, but that does not diminish the the broad range within melodic framework. The song switches back and forth from upper to lower range; yet, for the most part, it sits right smack in the upper part of David's range.

I could almost sense David's little mind working as he meticulously navigated through his upper range with pitch perfect ease and clarity. His head voice during this number is absolutely spectacular, grounded by admirable diaphragmatic support.

And, when he added some chest voice to the mix, his vocal delivery sounded rich and vibrant. He is such a master of vocal projection and, in this number, has managed to meticulously balance his technical skills in such a manner as to heighten his innate, soulful style.

In both video performances, the passionate exuberance he exhibits on stage is just incredible. He is just so musical, his body moving freely to the rhythmic pulse of the music.

Few artists can master the ability to fully immerse themselves in a song while maintaining control over their voice. David is one of those artists.

And don't even get me started on David's immaculate approach to the diphthongs in his lyrics. You know - those syllables with more than one vowel, such as in the word "right".

Throughout the entire song, David employs the correct technical approach to these diphthongs, sustaining and focusing his voice on the first pure vowel. In the case of the "eye" diphthong, David sustains his voice on the first vowel - "ah" - and, thus, achieves perfect focus.

In classical singing, this is called the bel canto approach and allows a singer to master an even, seamless sound throughout his or her singing range. Additionally, the pitch is preserved and centered, very clean sounding.

Also, how I loved watching David's connection to the crowd. He engaged the audience so very well, in such a playful manner. He has such respect for his audience and has so much love and joy to share. Such a huge heart!

Also, I would like to give kudos to his back-up musicians and vocalists. They were absolutely spectacular and mirrored David's gift for excellence. The harmonies, in particular, were "spot on"!

And as much as I enjoyed this song, in the end, it was David's excellent performance of this number, that made it so special.

Yes, there's "Something 'Bout David" and it can be summed up in one word - Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!!!

Music whisperers recognize a layering of influences by different contemporary musical styles that soothe the human heart, enlighten the spirit and help express feelings and emotions. They compose music for the senses.

Music has popularity been defined as the harmonious blending of sounds, aimed at giving contentment, solace and happiness to people. Music enters the layers of emotion that are encouraged by our soul, the spirit within us that breathes life into our bodies.

David understands the soul’s musical significance it whispers secrets so strong that it continues to inspire him.

He seems to make it a point to try and find something he enjoys in every style of music and somehow the very central essence of him. His music is what feelings sound like, and his music is the speech of Angels. It will grow and mature with you and last forever.

Using a simple formula of understanding, compassion and respect David has learned the language of music. David has showed us that establishing a connection with music can be gratifying and often become a metaphor for life.

His music is about how it’s up to us to shape our lives and he pays homage to those gone before him, while looking eagerly towards the future.

He can create vocals of both emotions and beauty, and as he matures as an artist he just keeps getting better. In 2014 it will be exciting to see; as David says - the person he has become. He will be a better songwriter because he is an observer of himself, of those around him and everything else related to his surroundings. He is so real, his music comes from deep inside and life’s experiences will provide him with new perspectives and perhaps a better understanding of who he is and who he wants to be.

If the measure of a successful musician is the influence they have on their devoted fans then David is high on the list. He seemingly breathes music with devotion on creating good music with passion and meaning.

His melodies give a great feeling to the ears. He can sit alone on stage and captivate an audience with his voice of power and overwhelming charisma. David singing with just an acoustic guitar showcases his vocal talents more than instruments, giving the overall feel of the soul of the song. I don’t have to understand why David’s music can make me feel better, it just does.

The flame of inspiration often flickers out but David always reminds us it’s simply about following your heart and living your dreams – no matter what.

The Sounds of David will be holding live and silent auctions at our Luncheon & Fan Mixer. Many items have been donated by generous fans and we thank you for supporting this special event.

All funds raised from these auctions will go directly to Child Fund International and Children Miracle Network Hospitals to support children and families in need. We will have representative from these charities available for questions about their programs and the children they support.

All donations need to be by check and made out the respective charity attached to your basket or live auction item. Credit cards will not be accepted.

David Archuleta Retrospective Series Part Eleven: Climb Every Mountain

It is a show tune from the 1959 Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music and the movie with Julie Andrews in 1965. It was themed as an inspirational piece, to encourage people to take every step towards attaining one’s dream.

The muse behind this song was Sister Gregory; the head of Drama at Rosary College in Illinois who wrote to Hammerstein after reading his lyrics and described the parallels between a person’s choice for a religious life and the choices that humans must make to find their purpose and direction in life. In doing so, she said the song, “drove to the Chapel”, because the lyrics conveyed a “yearning that…ordinary souls feel but cannot communicate.”

So is this where the saying, “you took it to church came from? The American Idol judges use this quite often in reference to commenting and judging many of the contestants.

David Archuleta takes every song he sings to church and give us a yearning our souls feel but can’t communicate. I have always dreamed of hearing David sing this song with his stunning voice, his passion for the lyrics and his version on how he could add to the song.

In his My Kind of Christmas tour in 2011 he purposed “Climb Every Mountain” for the charity Child Fund as an inspiration and prayer of hope for the future of these needy children all over the world. And when David lets loose with this song, I almost just lost it. He delivered an outstanding rendition with cascades of technique and his connection with his audience was spectacular.

My eyes watered as the emotions built up within my soul and his unbelievable notes struck every corner of my being. My soul was consumed by the overtones and the depth of his emotional performance.

There are moments where a gift comes along packaged with a soulful voice, this is David Archuleta who is a reminder that true artists survive under the scrutiny of the industry and still finds the strength to carry on the message of passion to all.

It can confidently be said of this incredible artist, is that his predecessors would be proud, and that one day in the future, he will be noted with the greats.

Rosanne Simunovic's Recollections

This beautiful and inspiring song from Rogers and Hammerstein's "Sound Of Music" never grows old. It is a song that touches the heart and gives one hope for the future against all odds. It speaks to our inner determination to surmount life's obstacles, giving us encouragement and enlightenment to follow the path to freedom and righteousness.

So, even before I heard David's performance of this number, I knew that, given his positive and uplifting nature, built on a spiritual foundation of love and faith, this rendition was going to be a powerful one.

Also, given his past ability to re-invent show tunes by giving it a distinctly current feel (e.g. Think Of Me), I was excited to see how David would phrase and mold this exquisite melody.

From the outset, David grounded his voice with superb focus and clarity. This song requires great range - both vocally and expressively. The first part of this song sits very low and, if the words are not properly articulated, the vocal sound loses energy and meaning.

However, this was not a problem for David, for he always treats his lyrics with respect, making certain that the delivered message resonates long after the song has ended.

I was extremely impressed with the length of his phrase lines - how he was able to draw out the final words in every phrase so that the song had continuity. There was a lovely forward momentum in this number that I so appreciated. This was bel canto singing at its absolute best.

And when he easily sang over that top note in the word, "live", I smiled at his relaxed, open jaw and the placement of the "ah" vowel in the center of the word. This approach was exactly correct, enabling him to sustain that upper note with resonating freedom.

It helps to add a little bit of the "ah" vowel to every vowel, thus ensuring the even placement of one's voice throughout a song. Additionally, it reinforces the circular position of the mouth which is so necessary for the pitch-centered clarity of the voice.

However, technical mumbo-jumbo aside, what was at the heart of this performance - and every performance - was David's heartfelt, passionate, soulful rendering of this beautiful song. He digs so deep and comes up with vocal gem after vocal gem, delivering his message with purpose and drive.

For, with David, the song is the message to inspire change in the world and his voice is the vehicle, carrying us all on the right road to hope and peace..

In the final moments of this song, at the 2:34 mark in the first video, the camera caught some of the reactions of some of the audience members. They were noticeably flabbergasted by the powerful sound of David's voice.

In fact, one male viewer dropped his jaw in disbelief. It really is a cute moment in the midst of such a compelling performance.

This was a distinctly David performance and his soulful take on a classic musical theatre selection was beyond memorable - it was singular and extraordinary. Bravo David! And God Bless The Children!

David's Christmas Magic

There is a special moment during the holiday season when all of the hustle and bustle of activities finally stops; you have that moment to stare off into a sea of gifts and packages

A moment when something stirs at your heart and soul and a knowing smile comes to your face. A moment when everything is right with the world and a sense of well-being consumes you and radiates outward.

At Christmas if only for a moment, we are reminded of what is within each of us and when we choose to reflect we let ourselves be filled with joy and happiness.

Let this moment be ours, always.

David Archuleta has the ability to give meaning to simple things, the strength to never give up and the courage to stand strong for what he believes. These qualities are exceptional and he portrays them without effort. His modesty and humility are virtues to be envied and this is why we continue to acknowledge how special he is.

I love his unwavering joy and holiday spirit. He embodies everything that this time of year means. His heart is big, full of love and never ending.

In past years it was mentioned David has shied away from any description of an Angel; his humility could not recognize his angelic attributes but often our love for him can only be descriptive in Angelic terms.

Upon researching there are many definitions of Angel and they all representing how we feel and recognize the essence of David Archuleta. One of my favorite’s……A person who is kind, pure or beautiful, someone who makes your heart jump when they enter the room and how about; someone with such a pure soul, who brightens the earth, and people around them.

The list continues with; one who manifests goodness, purity, an selflessness, a kind and lovable person, guiding influence, divine messenger, treasure, jewel, gem, dream which all exemplify David Archuleta.

David’s singing seeps into our hearts and makes us feel and understand joys in ways that escape most of us. His music magic of the Christmas season has revitalized our spirit and soul thanks to the gift we received from the glorious upstream from Fans of David last night. It will forever be sealed in our hearts with remembrance and gratitude.

David’s excitement and thrill of being a full time missionary must be escalated at this time during the Christmas season. He is working hard and giving all of his time to serving the people around him. He has not been forgotten and is appreciated more than words can say. He has made us see how beautiful life is and he keeps us smiling. I feel him in my heart every day.

Like many Christmas seasons they can be filled with sadness and difficulty and the brokenness of our world drives us to the One who brings wholeness, One whose birth we celebrate at Christmas. We need to remember to live every moment of every day in his light.

Pamela Pike's Recollection of "I'll Be Home for Christmas

“I’ll Be Home for Christmas” is a Christmas song recorded in 1943 by Bing Crosby who scored a top ten hit with the song. “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” has since gone onto become a Christmas standard. The song was written by lyricist Kim Gannon and composer Walter Kent.

The song is sung from the point of view of an overseas soldier during WWII, writing a letter to his family. In the message, he tells the family that he will be coming home, and to prepare the holiday for him including requests for “snow”, “mistletoe”, and “presents under the tree”. The song ends on a melancholy note, with the soldier saying “I’ll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams.”

In December of 1948, Bob Hope and other performers traveled to Berlin, Germany, to entertain members of the armed forces participating in the Berlin Airlift. This was his first Christmas tour to entertain troops and the beginning of a Hope tradition that lasted until1990.

The song touched the hearts of Americans both soldiers and civilians, who were in the midst of World War II. "I'll Be Home for Christmas" became the most requested song at Christmas U.S.O. shows.

David Archuleta’s “Christmas From the Heart” album was released on October 13, 2009 and his vocal virtuosity gave this album a timeless appeal to his fans and lovers of the traditional Christmas music. His gorgeous tone, silky timbre and stunning voice were suited to “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and with his slightly jazzy treatment added heartfelt appeal.

David has a way of squeezing every drop of emotion out of a lyric. David's style imparts each song a particular touch, highly inspired, emotionally crafted, and technically perfect.

It's amazing the images of family life and times gone by that this song brings to the table. I have

extremely fond memories of this song. I can't think of a better paring than David's golden voice and

the lyrics to I'll Be Home for Christmas. He sings this song effortlessly.

David's mellow version will have you calling your mother or grandmother. His vocal are so sweet

and nonchalant as they tug at your holiday heart strings whether he's swelling the big notes or almost speaking a soft word or two, David knows how to get to you.

Christmas music is an important part of the whole holiday season. The music and sounds of Christmas come from all styles and genres, providing something for every musical taste. Some carols are very religious, bringing the reason for the season front and center. Others are totally about the holiday season and cheer, focusing on the fun of Christmas. A few are even melancholy, focusing on

missing loved ones at Christmas.

This song is just as poignant today as it was over 65 years ago as it reminds us many loved one are still separated from their families for various reasons. I will remember them all this holiday season with love and wish them peace, safety and pray they will be home soon.

And for David Archuleta, my special heartfelt holiday wishes and Thanks for all your gifts, hard

Rosanne Simunovic's Recollection Of "Silent Night"

Silent Night is a classic Christmas carol of German heritage. It was composed by Franz Xaver Gruber. The original German title is "Stille Nacht".

This endearing Christmas carol has been performed by artists of every genre and classical artists, in particular, often perform this song in both German and English, as well as other languages.

It is a timeless carol that continues to live on in the hearts and minds of Christians everywhere - a true Christmas tradition.

December 11th, 2011, I treated myself to David's exquisite version of this Christmas song. Here are some of my thoughts:

"This video of David Archuleta performing Silent Night with the Mormon
Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra has to be the most compelling, passionate and inspiring performance of this song classic I have ever had the pleasure to see and hear.

Recorded live last Christmas and set to "http://www.somethingboutarchie.com/2011/10/motab-glad-christmas-tidings-tv-air.html"air on PBS on Tuesday, December 13th from 8:00-9:00 P.M, David's arrangement of this beautiful carol is nothing short of exceptional.

His phrasing, inflection, his lyrical, seamless vocal quality and expressive interpretation, are absolutely sublime. His face is radiant throughout this song and genuinely expresses the meaning of the lyrics in every verse.

Watch how his demeanor changes for each verse. It is very evident in the third verse, where his facial expression and body language mirrors the text so very well. He wears his joy and happiness on his sleeve. It really is remarkable."

I have since watched this performance many times and, of course, during the preparation of this article. I am moved each time, without fail. David lives and breathes every word, every phrase.

No one communicates this song better than David at this point in time. It is just a beautifully moving experience that is transcendent and intangible.

Rainbows are one of the most beautiful spectacles nature has to offer and each observer sees a different rainbow, they inspire countless fairy tales, songs and legends. A rainbow is regarded as lucky, a symbol of peace, and on occasion for making wishes, it is sometimes said to mean good news coming.

Rainbows look like pure magic, breath taking to behold and David Archuleta’s new video Rainbow is no exception. It has me smiling from ear to ear. David’s voice is silky smooth, addicting and has an appeal that explodes your heart with his sizzling hot voice. Drink in the screen shots they will give your heart a flutter. Note to self…get a bigger computer screen.

Technology is a wonderful thing; multiple split screens, fast fade ins and outs. Found is difficult to stop and write a review I couldn’t keep my finger of the repeat play button. David steals your heart with flirty dance moves and a melody that’s upbeat and exciting.

David raises temperatures in his hot new video with smoking good looks. It offers fans another look at what David has in store for us in the future. We can all swoon now. He is suave, cool, elegant, playful, and that twinkle of cheekiness in the eye gives us all kinds of sexy within this giant video of gorgeousness.

I am at a loss for words, he’s full of emotion, eyes full of promise, video was beautifully crafted, the song beautifully sang. Women and girls will melt in a collective puddle, smitten by the sound of his voice. This video will win many hearts.

He has something truly special to give to his fans; this goes above the typical attributes like his talent, songs, voice or even his looks, sound and image. There is something truly infectious at the core of him that simply makes us feel good when we listen to him; it makes us dream a little.

This video is clearly marketed for those who like a dare I say a sexy David with a mystique. He hits the mark remarkable well just being who he is and let me say this is one of the hottest videos David has given us so far.

A rainbow’s beauty simply says that even after the roughest storm things will get better. Beauty will appear in a person’s life again. Rainbows are not just colors in the sky they are promises for your heart.

We have to show our love from a distance but no distance is too far, no time is too long…..to celebrate our love for David Archuleta.

Never in a million years did I think I’d meet someone so utterly and completely perfect, someone who would make me happier than I ever dreamed I could be, someone that would touch my life so profoundly and just give me a whole new reason to breathe.

My Christmas memories of him are like snowflakes each one beautiful, unique and gone too soon. His Christmas tours were nights of songs wrapped in a blanket; it warmed all hearts and filled them with melody that would last forever.

The power of his voice is beyond description. His music never ceases to open my heart. His songs are a way of caressing people with his voice and I am missing his presence this holiday season.

David’s music is so spiritual that it easily becomes a part of our celebration of the Christmas spirit. Christmas means a joyful time of the year and will always be a time to reflect on Jesus. It means giving happiness to others and allowing happiness to be given to you.

Let’s close our eyes and listen for the bells, imagine the snow falling softly in the glow of the evening and David voice taking us on a journey. You’ve arrived at a place somewhere between your heart and soul; it is the world of David’s rich musical gifts of Christmas songs.

Sometimes all we need is a little inspiration and motivation in our lives, his music can open your eyes, make you think deeply, energize you, and encourage you to face another day. It can bring comfort just knowing that he understands where you are and how you feel. With music he is serving others with a loving heart.

So my message to David this Christmas year is…….Even though we’re miles apart, Christmas Magic is in my heart. You have to know you’ve given me the gift I most adore, the many memories I have of yore.

David Archuleta Retrospective Series Part Nine: Little Drummer Boy

The “Little Drummer Boy” originally known as “Carol of the Drums” was written by the American Classical music composer and teacher Katherine K. Davis in 1941. It was recorded in 1955 and further popularized by a 1958 recording by the Harry S. Simeone Chorale, arranged by Henry Onorati and Harry Simeone. It’s been a perennial holiday favorite ever since then.

The singers lyrics relates how, as a poor young boy, he was summoned by the Magi to the nativity where, without a gift for the baby Jesus, he played his drum with the Virgin Mary’s approval, remembering, “I played my best for Him” and “He smiled at me”.

David’s take on “Little Drummer Boy” was an ambitious choice considering many had already laid down a definitive version of the song. So what did David bring to the table, restraint for one thing, maintaining the traditional feel of the original standard that we’ve grown to love?

A beautiful voice packed with emotion, soul and vulnerability, poignant. The music is kept in a traditional style, but David’s performance was quite spirited and lively.

David puts his own original spin on everything he does. His 2011 Christmas Tour version features lots of drums and lots of interesting vocal nuances to make you truly appreciate his need to be original. It’s an unexpected yet amazing match that catches you off guard.

Music producer, Dapo Torimiro released a Christmas album called Dapo & Friends Christmas Volume 1. He collaborated with a lot of amazing artists remaking many of the Christmas classics. One of them was David Archuleta with their version of “Little Drummer Boy”. It is deeply affecting and touching.

We all love singing the Christmas Carol “The Little Drummer Boy”, a beautiful song lyrically and melodically. Our hearts swell as the poor boy offers his best, meager gift to the Baby in the manger, and we smile in joy as the infant Lord graciously smiles His Thanks.

The unmatched phenomenal voice of David so beautiful and controlled, mellow and mature sends chills down my spine. Such a humble entertainer, such an overwhelming talent!

You are guaranteed a satisfying, meaningful, and somewhat nostalgic Christmas Music that even your boy band listening kids will love.

God only made so many perfect singing voices and David Archuleta surely got one of them.

Rosanne Simunovic's Recollections

I must share a very cute story involving my 16-month-old grandson and David's performance of "The Little Drummer Boy".

Back in December 2011, my grandson, who was 10-months-old at the time, was mastering the art of standing and walking through the support of furniture located around the house. He couldn't quite get there on his own but, daily, his little legs were getting stronger and stronger.

Then one afternoon, I decided to play David's video performance of "The Little Drummer Boy" on my IPad. Well, to say that my grandson was mesmerized by David's voice would be an understatement.

He intently watched David as he sang through the first three verses with his signature style - passionately communicating the music and lyrics in own special way. It was a special moment between Grandson and Grandmother.

But then something truly exciting happened. When both the percussive background and David's inner rockstar started to kick into high gear, my grandson became incredibly excited. He left my side, went to the middle of the floor and started to bend and stand to the rhythm of the music. And wouldn't stop to come up for air! It was one of those "oh my goodness" moments! Where did this come from?

Here he was - bending and standing on his own, spurred on by the intense passion and drive in David's voice. And he matched the rhythmic tempo as well. I just couldn't get over it!

This scene was re-enacted all afternoon, becoming stronger by the minute. And, because he heard me say "You did it, Yay!" each time he showcased his new developmental trick, he decided to speak those words as well. Speaking and standing at the same time? The miracle of David's voice? I like to think so. There is no other explanation for this metamorphosis.

When his parents returned from work that evening, they were treated to quite a spectacle. It was an early Christmas gift, thanks to David and his innate ability to inspire and motivate!
David's performance of this song was absolutely brilliant. How he came up with this unique concept for this song is inexplicable and testament to the depth and maturity of David's musical gifts.

It has to be one of my favorite Christmas performances by David. My hope is that it will find its way on to a recording at some point in time. I feel that it is destined to be a classic - timeless and true, like its vocal artist - David James Archuleta.

"Bravo David and thank you for helping my grandson (whose middle name is David - another great coincidence)- move closer to the walking stage before he hit the 1-year-old mark! Hopefully, this indicates that my grandson has somehow inherited your love and passion for music. One can only dream!

This song will always have a place in my heart after watching David Archuleta perform this beautiful Cuban ballad written in 1946 by Filin songwriter, Cesar Pertillo de la Luz. The lyrics seemed to be written with David and his heartfelt emotions in mind. “Nothing can console me if you’re not here too”……those lyrics were felt in my heart. His interpretation was so great a translation into English wasn’t even necessary to understand its meaning.

Filin is a way to sing or rather a song with feeling. Cesar Portillo de la Luz once remarked: Every way capable of communicating something is a good way of singing. Filin is sung with the heart and above all with honesty. David Archuleta was asked to sing this song for his Year in Music Alma Award and it was the perfect match of beauty and artistry.

Luis Miguel and Christina Aguilera have had great success with their versions, but I feel David’s rendition gave us the greatest amount of emotions and feelings of love within the lyrics.

Looking back to my previous article on voices.yahoo.com – Positive Career Performances, I stated:

If there were any events that moved David’s career closer to stardom it would have to be at the Alma Awards in September 2009, singing Contigo de la Distancia. He definitely rose to the occasion and raised the bar higher for all other entertainers that evening and in the future.

For 3 minutes and 41 seconds I floated through his song hoping it would never end. My eyes tearing watching this young singer bring brilliance to the TV Screen. My thoughts quickly went to his mother sitting in the audience. How beamingly proud she must feel at that moment watching her son tenderly caress the American public with his artistry

David’s effortless vocal talent captures the mood for love in perfect style with feeling and incredible passion. He casts a spell on his audiences with his beautiful voice. How can we possibly put into words the way in which he makes us feel when he sings? There is something about his voice that opens our hearts and transports us to another place.

It was his first time singing in Spanish on television, and with only a guitar player, David Thomas Hopkins, and his vocals, he mesmerized the audience. His performance was flawless and he received a standing ovation

Let me just say that, if you have not seen or heard David’s Spanish number, you are in for a very memorable musical treat. David’s artistry continues to enfold and soars to remarkable heights during the performance of this song.

Oftentimes, the refinement of his technical skills astounds me – he never veers from the proper technical approach in his singing style. Yet, at the same time, his voice sounds fluid, relaxed, liberated and soulful.

His Spanish pronunciation is exquisite and meaningful. He feels every word, every nuance and this is the key to David Archuleta’s musical gifts. He is a vocal narrator of the highest order and makes absolutely certain that his musical heart and passion reaches the center of our soul.

And, did you notice the depth of his lower range at the beginning of the main section of the song, as he sang the words “No hay bella melodia”? The rich timbre of his baritone voice has definitely increased in volume – just gorgeous. This will continue to grow and flourish with each passing year.

In closing, the strong visual and aural presentation of this song was extraordinary. And, almost two years later, this song still casts a spell over my heart. The manner in which he embraces every word, pacing his delivery with exquisite taste and nuance, is a Masterclass lesson for all to behold.

I have always been such a huge fan of Latino music. I am Italian by heritage and the languages are so close and the cultures almost identical.

Therefore, to hear such a young artist perform this beautiful Spanish ballad with impeccable taste and refinement was a very special experience for me, one that I could truly savor and appreciate. It is a singer's language, for, even spoken, the language has a singable quality that lends itself naturally to a beautiful melodic line.

David clearly deserved his ALMA award - his talent is extraordinary and his passion and gift for music unparalleled.

Finding His Place

In his pre American Idol days David Archuleta was a young artist very involved in music and recorded two songs written with Merrick Christensen a young man the same age as David. Both songs “Angels in The Alleyway” and The Most Beautiful Part About This Is” reflected personal and family struggles Merrick had, and with his fears of letting himself and God down.

The songs gave Merrick faith, inspiration and hope as he turned to God and realized his support was present. By David recording these songs with him it has had an incredible impact on him and his family’s life.

Music can reflect our actions and give us guidance, direction and carry messages of inspiration. Faith is built and strengthens by songs of many artists today one of which is David Archuleta. Many songs are filled with messages about appropriate and inappropriate attitudes and actions toward morality.

No matter how much music may be different in various cultures, it seems that music serves a general common purpose; to bring people together. David leaves a resonating sound for all listeners and illuminates passion for meaningful music.

David’s creative interpretations of touching songs give way to his productive future and his dedication to poignant melody’s will continue to give listeners the promise of a devoted singer in the music industry.

A struggle for power in the music industry causes conflict when many artists leave their music label in order to attain greater artistic freedom or better contracts. The industry and producers have the ability to control messages, influence lyrics, build specific fan bases and promote artists most likely to make money leaving less desirable but sometimes more talented artists in the shadows.

Radio play is essential and much more effective at selling music than print reviews. David could certainly use more radio play; his talent deserves more attention.

So the question as to labels for David on his return, very well may depend on his choice of the direction he wishes to take his music and if he feels a need to compromise his values. Falling into that well of dark discussions and decisions doesn’t seem to be in his character. There will be choices for David and many of them I have no doubt, and upon his return a more life experienced and mature young man will find a place for his music.

No one knows the rhythm of our hearts better than David Archuleta and the following two songs proved that at his early age music was food for his soul, and as it turned out he is food for our soul.

Pamela Pike's Recollections

“Works for Me” is a song released on David’s self-titled album through Wal-Mart as a Bonus Track back in November 2008. This song represents David’s self- image, a time in his life when he felt indecisive and had to deal with certain challenges. He co-wrote this song with Daniel Bedingfield and Toby Lightman.

A call from Daniel Bedingfield to Toby Lightman asking her to come and write with them early one morning back in 2008 started their creative process.

With David barely awake, Daniel downing Chai lattes and Toby with guitar in hand the basics of a song were started but not finished. A call from Sony a month later requesting them to finish the song required them to fly to Tulsa, Oklahoma, David’s last stop on his American Idol Tour. And as they say history was made or at least “Works for Me.”

Challenges sometimes create change and with that make life unpredictable. Everything we do is filled with possibilities of change when we least expect it. It is what we do with those moments that count in the end. Some of the lyrics in the Bridge say, “There were days when a song could not be found, There were days when my voice would make no sound for me”.

And in the chorus he wrote, “And I know you’re just trying to help me out Thanks, but I’ll follow my heart instead”. It seems David is still following his heart.

This song illustrates a melody and dynamics that make David shine. It allows him to experiment with his amazing voice. Every sound and layer is put exactly where it needs to be. The up-tempo and easy chorus has you singing along in no time.

He tells a story with his songs and voice and that “Works for Me.”

As I write this article on "Works For Me", I must confess that this is the first time I actually heard this terrific song. It was Pamela Pike who suggested this song for review in this David Archuleta Retrospective Series.

Well, what took me so long? I love everything about this number - the catchy rhythmic structure, the contagious melody, the luscious harmonies supplied by David and, of course, the seamless and transparent vocal delivery by David on the solo line.

Once again, David highlighted the easy accessibility of his ringing head voice during the repetitious line: "work out just fine". His voice sounds so liberated, so flexible and he manages to carry this head voice element throughout his range.

As a result, David's voice always sounds clear and centered. David never over sings - he sings tastefully, calling on the emotion to dictate how he will phrase his music. There is nothing contrived in this song - just pure, joyous singing, plain and simple.

The simulation of the finger snapping at the beginning of the song set the mood so perfectly. It not only reinforced the catchiness of the tune itself but also reminded us not to take life so seriously. It's a journey and there will be smooth roads and rocky ones.

Once again, this song is a strong testament to David's positive, yet ever-evolving nature and his ability to trust in something or someone more powerful than himself.

Great Expectations

Trees have traditionally been planted in many cultures in honor of an accomplishment or an important rite of passage. They can symbolize an effective visual reminder of your goals and help you fulfill dreams and visions for life.

The Oak tree’s symbolism is strength and courage, the Willow includes magic, inner vision and dreams and the Pine tree includes creativity, life, and longevity while the Elm tree symbolizes strength of will and intuition. These all seem to represent David’s paragons of virtue.

Back in December 2008 just before his 18^th birthday, his service project to help complete his Eagle Scout requirements consisted of planting 180 trees and shrubs in a community park. An Eagle Scout is one who has taken the Scout Oath and Law, to which he has promised to do his best to do his duty, first to God and his Country, second, to other people, by helping them at all times and third, to himself, by keeping himself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight character.

David’s mission for his church just seems to be a continuation of his growth of character and his natural progression of life’s evolving changes in goals. David takes ownership in goals established around his interests and desires and is grounded in his family’s shared values. Reality dictates that as David makes changes in his life so must we.

Sometimes we often find ourselves in situations that no longer satisfy who we are or want to be. We’re grateful for the path we’ve taken; we just reached a point when it’s time to make a change.

As we pull back from twitter, blogging or Facebook and take challenge in our own goals and family obligations we shouldn’t feel less loyalty to David. His soul is connected to ours and grows with each moment we share his journey.

We put so much time and energy into his career we feel he is an extension of us. Our pride shows if he does well, then we have done well, by choosing to support him. We need to remember that our goals may not be the same as his and like a parent we want to support and protect but we need to give him space and the opportunity and the right to decide his future.

David loves making music and he loves being able to give the gift of music to others. He will never lose his love for music and will certainly be ready after his mission to resume a career. David Archuleta inspires a level of devotion in his biggest fans that can rival most artists. His devoted fans will flock wherever he may land.

As a devoted supporter of David Archuleta this blog site will remain active until he returns from his mission. MasterclassLady and I have committed to posting our Retrospective Series the first Friday of each month and will continue through April 2014.

As we all make changes in our lives and become involved with charities, family obligations, friends, and traveling my heart will hold open the music of David Archuleta and keep promoting what he holds dear……..inspiring and connecting people through his music.

To Begin You First Need Courage

An inability to step out of your comfort zone will profoundly limit your performance. Within each one of us lays great potential. The way you explore that great potential is to make changes and take risks. We stumble and fall in the learning process, but success can only be reached when we are prepared to take those steps.

Courage is making the decision to learn something new by testing and stretching your abilities and taking those risks. David Archuleta has tremendous reservoirs of potential within him as he steps out and boldly pursues them. The difference is his attitude; he greets the unknown with a sense of eager anticipation and welcomes it

David has the courage to step out in faith and change his life. He may not feel courageous at the onset or even through the journey, but it is still a courageous act. He is gaining more self-esteem, confidence and a stronger sense of self.

It seems he wants to take all he can out of life, and take advantage of every chance he gets. Courage is about following your heart and growing. His journey of self-discovery begins with a commitment without complete knowledge of the probable outcome. David knows that God is the One who goes with you He will not leave you nor forsake you.

David has the courage to discover just how much music he can make when he returns. How much will he do? How much joy can he share? I’m convinced that the world, more than ever, needs the music only he can make.

Every song in “Begin” seems to have a story and there is “newness” to them in terms of style and delivery, but there is also a timeless message that fits in what he is singing about. These song choices reveal a self-awareness that comes with maturity and also shows a young man in continuous change.

David has that heart on your sleeve honesty that manages to keep listeners interested. With “Begin” these songs are just saying what’s in his heart. They represent a window into the place and time when David finds himself at the age of 21.

I just finished watching his latest video “Everybody Hurts” and he knocked my socks off with his four minutes and fifty three seconds of passionate, soulful and penetrating vocals. He is a storyteller that can open people up to their inner soul and is an artist of selfless giving that will shine bright forever.

David seems to be emerging as an independent artist who may prefer to control his career and not be led by someone else’s opinion of how his career should unfold. Courage is about choice and acting on what we know we should do and David seems to be making the right ones.

David Archuleta's "BEGIN"

David Archuleta continues to be one of the most dynamic and versatile recording artist today. His brilliant new album offers a mix of rearranged favorite covers as well as a new song musically penned by David himself. He has given us some mighty impressive stuff here

Each time I play this album I enjoy it even more. I’m writing in a state of bliss after listening to these songs. He’s really so good, isn’t he?

His “Be Still My Soul” comes deep from the depths of his spirituality, his voice shines and soars and drives straight to the center of your heart. He sings with a conviction of his place in heaven, and perhaps his place in singing history. The emotions David’s arouses and masters with this song establish his connection to his music and his faith.

His voice is indescribable exciting, and forever a wonder to behold. Does it get any better than this….I think not. David’s vocals are exquisite and his renditions capture the intensity while keeping the integrity of the originals.

“Bridge Over Troubled Water” is a favorite of mine and has always been associated with hard times and great emotional beauty. David’s strikingly pure vocals put to shame every other singer attempting this song. His fabulous version has depth, power and great sincerity. His voice soars and then pulls you back for the next flight of genius and after he is finished you are exhausted emotionally and in awe of his powerful performance.

With “Angel” he gives the song great respect. This song is able to be interpreted by so many people in so many different ways. It can mean that some people are somewhere that they don’t want to be in and don’t want to stay in. It’s also about choices and the power of Angels. The quiet softness David adds to this song leaves you breathless.

“Broken” masterfully illustrates his musical gift writing. I recall several months back him sitting at a piano playing with those ivory keys and saying he was just trying something out. What a beautiful intense and hopeful song.

This next song “Everybody Hurts” just blew me away. David’s vocal delicacy and tenderness conveys the theme of this song, that we are not alone. He is amazing and evokes so much emotion, this is really great music.

“True Colors” is true love, “Beautiful” is beautiful, “Pride” and “Don’t Give Up” succeeds in showing us the heart of David Archuleta, and “Somewhere Only We Know” busted out at the seams and revealed David as an outstanding great songster.

I challenge anyone who says David Archuleta can’t articulate his feelings. He has emerged as a young man, an artist with purpose and a mission of determination and hope.

Begin brought David an avalanche of publicity less than a month before its release. Fans are enraptured by his new album.

David continues to demonstrate that he’s among the truest, brightest talent to come on the scene in quite a while. He seamlessly flows between pop, R&B, and now inspirational without ever breaking a sweat and has given us an excellent selection of strong and passionate vocals.

Begin is an album that can be enjoyed and appreciated by listeners of all ages. This is good music, no this is great music. Soak every bit of it up, remember it, enjoy it and share these great songs with many.
