The 6 TB experiment....

Its been a while since i blogged,lot of incidents came and past but nothing amused enough to get into the blog. Here is a crazy thing that we me and @agentsj did last week,simply for fun and to find something...

To find out
1.What will Windows do after all the drive letter get exhausted?
2.Will the SMPS provide with enough power to support this config.?

The test Configuration.

Core i5 661 @ 3.2 Ghz
Intel DH55HC motherboard with six SATA ports.
2*2 GB DDR3 Kingston @ 1066 Mhz
XFX GeForce 9800GT
CoolerMaster GX550 SMPS
CoolerMaster CM 690 II Plus - Asia Pacific Edition

and

4 * 1TB Seagate HDD
1 * 1TB Maxtor HDD
1 * 1TB Samsung HDD

All the HDD runs at 7200 rpm with 32mb cache.

Experiment:
All the six HDD were installed and did the cabling,using up all the SATA ports and the power cables from the SMPS. Powered up the system,the BIOS detected all the drives with a Seagate as the primary. Booting into Windows 7 ultimate proved that the SMPS provides with enough power to run 6 harddisks. Accessing the Explorer it showed all the drive letters(from C to Z;as A and B are reserved for floppy drives) being used up for accommodating all the partition in the various harddisks. Inorder to test our first objective we inserted a pen drive of capacity 8 GB. The explorer did detect the pen drive by displaying the driver installation still it was not displayed on the menu,on accessing the drive manager we could see the drive there but no letter was allocated to it,as it caused the drive to be inaccesible. But if we would disable one HDD partition we could have access the pendrive,but we couldn't jeopardize it for the experiment.

It was an awesome qualifying yesterday.FORCEINDIA came first.this is something that we indians should not miss,an indian team(with lot of foreigners) came first in a qualifying. A top ten finish for todays race will be enough for the team to prove its potential.man i hope they do, but chances of messing the oppurtunity is also there.lets wait and see....but my personal wish will be Kimi in first along with fisichella on a podium finish.

The year is 2007 and we are on the verge of yet another phenomenal product from intel......its the long awaited second generation of Core 2 Duo....its codenamed PENRYN.....the production will start in second half of year 2007....and most probably it will reach shops by november-december...

With more than 400 million transistors for dual-core processors and more than 800 million for quad-core, the 45nm Penryn family introduces new microarchitecture features for greater performance at a given frequency, plus expanded power management capabilities for new levels of energy efficiency. The 45nm Hi-k next generation Intel Core 2 and Intel Xeon processors have more transistors but are about 25 percent smaller in silicon area than Intel's current 65nm products and operate at the same or lower power than the current Intel Core 2 processors.

The Penryn family adds to the Intel Core 2 processor family:
