This afternoon, I got to play dress up with the new HM and Marni collection that hits stores on March 8th. Here are a few pieces I liked from the collection:

The Golden Mile of Tailoring | Savile Row, London

Savile Row is a shopping street in Mayfair, central London, famous for its traditional men's bespoke tailoring. The term "bespoke" is understood to have originated in Savile Row when cloth for a suit was said to "be spoken for" by individual customers. The short street is termed the "golden mile of tailoring", where customers have included Winston Churchill, Lord Nelson and Napoleon III.

Savile Row was built between 1731 and 1735 as part of the development of the Burlington Estate, and is named after Lady Dorothy Savile, wife of the 3rd Earl of Burlington. It originally ran from Burlington Gardens (then Vigo Lane) to Boyle Street, with houses only on the east side, but in 1937–8 it extended to Conduit Street, and in the 19th century houses were built on the west side.

The original architectural plan is believed to have been drawn up by Colen Campbell, though Henry Flitcroft appears to have been the main architect of the street, under the supervision of Daniel Garrett, while Nos 1 and 22–23 Savile Row were designed by William Kent, who lived next door in No 2. Dr Livingstone was laid out in state in No 1, when it was the headquarters of the Royal Geographical Society, before being buried in Westminster Abbey.

Initially, the street was occupied by military officers and their wives; William Pitt the Younger was an early resident. Irish-born playwright and MP, Richard Brinsley Sheridan lived at 14 Savile Row for a short time before his death in 1816.

During the 19th century, the gentry became concerned with neat dress, and Beau Brummell epitomised the well-dressed man. He patronised the tailors congregated on the Burlington Estate, notably around Cork Street, and by 1803 some were occupying premises in Savile Row. None of those original tailors survive today.

In 1846, Henry Poole is credited as being the 'Founder of Savile Row' after opening a second entrance to his late father's tailoring premises at № 32 Savile Row; however, there were tailors on the Row long before Poole's.

In 1969, Nutters of Savile Row modernised the style and approach of the traditional tailors; a modernisation which continued in the 1990s with the arrival of designers like Richard James, Ozwald Boateng and Timothy Everest.

With increasing rents and criticisms from Giorgio Armani of falling behind the times, the number of tailors on Savile Row declined to just 19 in 2006. Some tailors had expressed concern in 2005 that an increase in commercial development in the area could lead to the death of the business locally, as tailors — many of whom traditionally manufacture their suits on the premises, in basement studios — could be priced out of the local propertymarket. The Savile Row Bespoke Association was created to address these problems, and to encourage training, organise events and other initiatives. There is frustration among many remaining that even some established British brands use the 'Savile Row' designation on imported clothes.

But despite these problems the Row continues to be a mecca for men around the world who want the very best of tailoring and it also continues to attract new recruits. Some of these may be 'old' recruits, in that they have had long experience in Savile Row before starting their own businesses, while others are younger newcomers attracted by its elegance and craftsmanship.

NYFW | Native Son Fall/Winter 2012

Designer Kyle Fitgibbons did a fantastic job creating timeless yet modern menswear pieces for the Native Son’s Fall 2012 collection. The color story consisted mainly of navy, grey, brown and black, but the subtle details, fine tailoring and effortless styling made up for the lack of color.

Outerwear was the strongest part of the collection. Fitgiboons created timeless yet edgy coats and leather jackets that would elevate any mans wardrobe. A standout piece, the grey and black varsity jacket was modern without breaking away from traditional style. The ribbing details on the black leather jacket and sweaters creative a consistent edge in an otherwise safe collection. Fitgiboon choice of accessories included black baseball caps, black leather gloves, and sunglasses was spot on.

Without a doubt, my favorite look was the black biker jacket paired with the brown two-button suit, black skinny tie and black gloves(pictured above). Coupling a traditionally cut suit with the leather biker jacket creating a polished edge that was simply refreshing. I certainly have to personalize this look next fall. This collection would definitely appeal to a man who isn’t exactly fashion forward but wants to look polished.

My least favorite look was the baseball cap paired with the black suit and white shirt button down shit(picture above). For lack of a better term, this outfit was a bit boring.

B Store is one of those shops that catches your attention from miles away. The contemporary boutique is located on Kingly Street in London and carries cool, modern and accessible product for him and her. They even publish their own magazine called B Magazine, which focuses more on style than fashion (that's my kinda mag). If I lived in Europe this would have easily became my go-to destination because the clothing is fashion forward but still very practical.

The product is merchandised very neatly by color stories, they carry a nice range of accessories, and the store is spacious so you can spread your wings. The sales guy/model was super friendly as he walked me through the various collections and even allowed me to take his picture. B store is the perfect marriage between contemporary and classic,so if your in the London area stop by.

Bend It Like Beckhem, Style It Like Lou

The good folks at H&M invited me to London to attend the global launch event for David Beckham Bodywear line. Words can't begin to describe how amazing this trip was. It's not everyday I get to stay at The WestBury Hotel, meet David Beckham and shoot street style in Europe. My first night, I had dinner at Bar Boulud with the H&M rep and friends. The food was brilliant, I ordered the roasted lamp rump, braised shoulder cavolo Nero, Jerusalem artichoke, Israeli couscous sweet piguante peppers and tamrind jus.

The event took place the following at the H&M store on Regent Street. Mr. Beckham arrived fashionably late wearing a cream shawl collar sweater and blue jeans. Load of photographers started taking his picture than he started signing autographs for the public.

After the event, we headed to The Connaught Hotel in Mayfair for a rather posh interview session. Tim Blanks of Style.com had a one-on-one chat with David and here are some of the questions/answers:

Tim Blanks: So why underwear, what did you feel that was missing in underwear that you could add to the whole?

David Beckham: I mean everyone needs underwear most of the time. So I think there are obviously some good underwear brands out there, but there's not great ones in my eyes. So the reason is - that's one of the reasons why I wanted to do it myself. I know what feels good, I kind of know what looks good, and like I said there are some great underwear brands out there, but I wanted to do it myself and I wanted to do something different.

TB: So this is your experience rather than research, this is what you have learnt from wearing underwear?

DB: Yeah, obviously there's a lot of research that goes into it, of course, you know I've been around for 36 years so I've seen my fair share of underwear. But no, you know, I think it was important for me to keep it simple. I like simple underwear, I like to be comfortable, I like to feel good - and you know that's what I've gone for.

TB: Do you have an underwear wardrobe; do you have like what you wear when you're playing, what you wear when you go out?

DB: I do now. No, you know obviously I wear the briefs when I'm playing because I feel more comfortable. But, you know, there's occasions for each item, so the long johns I won't wear when I'm playing though.

Next we changed and got ready for the after party that took place at the Henry Moore Courtyard in Millbank. Beyond posh.
