I love this song!

2011-08-16T01:47:00.000-04:00

I was just clicking on random Youtube and Vimeo videos looking for something interesting and I stumbled across this video for Mumford and Sons 'The Cave'.

I was surprised I had never seen the video before. I love Mumford & Sons, and The Cave is one of my favourite songs from their album Sigh No More, right behind Winter Winds. I love the whole concept of this video. The look of it is brilliant and the lip sync is spot on. I'm always impressed by slow mo singing in videos.

'Because I need freedom now
And I need to know how
To live my life as it's meant to be.'

Re-post of Murray's Market

2011-06-06T22:40:00.001-04:00

murray's market is a pure dream come true for me.

on a rainy may morning as i wandered ottawa's lower town i discovered murray's market was open for business. i have anxiously been awaiting its opening so i absolutely had to get something to eat. and what i got to eat i believe was the breakfast of champions... the charcutercone. several different meats, some warm, some cold, a bit of aged cheddar, in-house grebiche sauce and topped of with crackling all served in a paper cone. brilliant.

i will definitely be going back and trying other meals and picking up some incredible looking charcuterie and local cheese.

Check out my recently launched site: the lyle project on tumblr

Here is a re-post of the the original idea behind starting the new site.

Originally posted May 31, 2011 on the lyle project

the lyle project: an idea.

my first post on tumblr.

i want the lyle project to be a simple outlet for my thoughts and creations. an experiment with writing, photography, and film. a new outlet for creating. the scope of it can include anything i want, from what i ate that day, to upcoming projects, to ideas i’m still trying to work out. but it will always be my own expressions.
i will continue to use darcylyle.ca as my main site for highlighting my productions, showing what i’ve been creating and to share what others have done that i find impressive, inspiring and worth attention. some of the postings from the lyle project will make their way over to darcylyle.ca and vice versa.
the idea is that things don’t have to be perfect but instead this will be an outlet, a way to experiment, and hopefully through this process create something interesting.

So please check it out and feel free to let me know what you think.

Thank you.

For all of us that need a little inspiration in our artistic endeavors, I think this is simply incredible.

And, a reason to listen to our Mother's encouragement.

Elmdale and the Low

2011-04-03T21:58:00.001-04:00

Had an awesome time at Elmdale House Tavern last night to see the Lowest of the Low. They're on a tour for the 20th Anniversary re-release of their debut album Shakespeare My Butt. For those of you who don't know them the band consists of Ron Hawkins (vocals, guitar) Stephen Stanley (guitar, vocals) David Alexander (drums) and my good friend Dylan Parker (bass). Dylan may dispute this fact but he knows it's true.

They are putting together some video clips of the anniversary tour and asked me to man the camera last night. It was a great crowd and the band was amazing. This was the first time I've been to the Elmdale and I had a blast.

Find details for the rest of their tour here , with the final show (and afterparty) at Massey Hall.

A couple of weeks ago they were featured in a great intro video for the opening of Hockey Night in Canada:

I stumbled upon this by accident, but it's so incredibly moving I just needed to share it.
It's amazing the talent and creativity that people are capable of.

APT613

I must say, I LOVE APT613!
They have another post up about the OIFF Video Challenge, in which they mention the winner, and the Third Place Winner... me. It's a nice write up and also has some info about the Weathermakers and their upcoming CD Release, which is Cool. There is more to the article than my little whatever here, so please go and read it on the Apt613 site.
Thank you Tiffani Murray for the write up and it was a pleasure meeting you at the festival.

Third Place, Third Place, Third Place!

2010-08-21T11:46:00.000-04:00

Had a Blast at the OIFF Video Challenge last night. There were some great music videos in the competition and I was lucky enough to be one of the winners. Third Place to be exact! Thanks everyone that came out and made it such a fun evening. I'm Awesome!

They didn't have a plaque for 3rd place so a couple of the judges made one up for me. My "official" plaque is in the mail. The OIFF did a great job in organizing this first annual Film Festival, and I can't wait for next year.

One More Sleep

2010-08-19T23:42:00.000-04:00

I'm looking forward to the OIFF Video Challenge tomorrow Aug 20th 6:30 to 9:30 at the The Lieutenant's Pump. The evening costs $10 (or is included in the $25 OIFF Festival Pass) and can be bought at the Jack Purcell Community Centre and hopefully at the Pump (they're not sure if they will have tickets tomorrow or not). I hope everyone can make it down.

I want to thank everyone who has supported and encouraged me to keep working in film. It means a lot and I'm excited to be screening at a festival. If you make it out tomorrow or not, thanks, and check out The Weathermakers (an Incredible Band) and the video online. I look forward to their next show. Natasha, Matt, Nina and Chuck. Thanks.

I'm also very Excited to see that the video, along with both myself and The Weathermakers were mentioned by the very intelligent people at Apartment613. How cool is that! Now I feel visible in the Ottawa Arts Culture..

Again, Thanks.

Short and Sweet

2010-07-28T00:36:00.001-04:00

Okay, short and sweet. I now have the Weathermakers music video posted under the FILM section. It’s also on the new Darcy Lyle Production Youtube page and on the Weathermakers website which also has a cool music player, some photos and other info on the band.
Please, check out the video and let me know what you think and then come down to the Pump on Aug 20th and vote for it to win the OIFF Music Video Challenge.

In other news, I’m hoping to have a new and improved blog up just as soon as I have time to sit down and figure it out.

Stand Up

2010-07-28T00:33:00.001-04:00

I had planned to write earlier but time just flies by, and when it’s 40 degrees you just want to sit in front of the fan, open a beer, and talk about how hot it is. But, onward I must go.

Last time we spoke, I stated that I want to use this to be more motivated on production, and that I’m starting with a music video. Well, since then I’m now working on another project, doing some shooting and lighting on a short film that’s combining live action and stop motion. Very exciting. This has been and will be keeping me busy most weekends for the rest of the summer. I’m also looking at two other projects doing some shooting ( my love ) on one and some editing ( my passion ) on another. Even if I don’t get them I’m glad the motivation is there and it feels great just to pursue them.

Okay... The music video is done and will be up in the media section soon. I am very pleased with it, but a part of me wants to keep tweaking it. Take a frame out here, add a second or two there, maybe use the closeup over the wide shot. The band has seen it and likes it, which makes me happy. Then again I’m always happy when people like my stuff.

The video is entered in the OIFF video contest. The video contest launches the festival at the Pump on August 20th 2010. So mark your calendars and save the date. It’s a Friday. Come down and vote for my video so I can win some money. I might buy you a beer. ( no i won’t )

Now a minor clerical detail. My old email is garbage and hasn’t worked for 2 weeks so I have a new one and it’s in the ABOUT ME section.

Thanks everyone for the feed back, and check out my Facebook page.

It’s a brand new day

2010-07-28T00:30:00.000-04:00

So, the first blog, the site is up and ready for me to show people. I’m hoping to use this thing as motivation to begin working in film again. Shooting, editing, producing and so on. Lots of ideas in my head and now is the time to try and get them out to the rest of the world.

And this begins with a music video. The band is The Weathermakers, they are awesome so check them out. They have graciously agreed to let me experiment with making them a video. I’m shooting the entire thing with a digital still camera on drive mode and then dropping them into final cut and creating a quasi stop motion video. It’s going well but still lots to do to get it done by the 30th.

So, again, the adventure begins.
