The original zombie game

The first Resident Evil game was released in 1996 for the PlayStation, Nintendo DS, Sega Saturn, and PC. It sold over 2.7 million copies, sparking the birth of the zombie genre in the gaming industry. For example, late 2000’s titles like Left 4 Dead and Red Dead Redemption were all inspired by Resident Evil.

Of course, the action-adventure horror game genre isn’t the only thing that has been taken over by zombies—other types of games were inspired by it, too. Plants vs. Zombies became such a huge hit in 2009, prompting over 200 million downloads worldwide. The zombie genre has also penetrated the online slots world too, with the collection of slots on Foxy Games, including zombie-themed games like Wild Walker. There are even slots based on other popular zombie franchises, like PlayPearls’ 28 Spins Later. Over the years, the zombie genre has continued to evolve, as heart-wrenching and complex games like The Last of Us made an appearance online. But the newest installment to this age-old franchise promises to revolutionize the genre even further with gruesome monsters, perplexing plots, and an even more traumatized protagonist.

Resident Evil 8: Village

Resident Evil 8: Village was first revealed during Sony’s first PS5 reveal last June. It’s going to be a direct sequel to the series’ soft reboot (Resident Evil 7: Biohazard), as the protagonist was revealed as Ethan Winters. He and Mia take shelter in the mountains to escape the trauma of Resident Evil 7 but, unfortunately, trouble follows them.

Also, Chris Redfield is also going to be in it. Apparently, Capcom listened to fans’ calls because Chris’ comically skinny design from Resident Evil 7 has been transformed into this new big and boxy gruff man.

In another PS5 showcase during Tokyo Game Show last September, more information was revealed alongside a brief story trailer and a gameplay demo.

According to the developers, Resident Evil 8 will not only address the cliffhanger left by the previous game, but it will also conclude Ethan Winters’s story. A mansion was also shown—a good call back to the Spencer Mansion in the first Resident Evil game. Finally, there’s a fetus symbol made out of twigs and feathers that have been sprinkled through the trailers.

The team mentioned that players should “pay extra close attention to this one”—very likely because of its connection to the Umbrella Corporation.

Gameplay

Just like Resident Evil 7, this upcoming addition to the franchise will be played in first-person. This was definitely an effective scare tactic in the previous game, with horror elements taken from classics like Cannibal Holocaust and The Blair Witch Project. The trailers have currently teased werewolves, vampires, and a strange family (not the Bakers this time), which match the occult vibes Resident Evil 8 is going for. And being a zombie game, we’re fully expecting to see those gross creatures make a return.

There’s also mention of an upcoming online mode called “Dominion.” We don’t know anything about it yet, including its name, but more information on that should be announced during the next Resident Evil 8 showcase.

Resident Evil 8 will be released for the PS5, Xbox Series, and PC sometime in summer 2021. There’s plenty of stuff we still don’t know about, so we’ll just have to wait for further announcements.

First off, let’s talk about pricing! This gimbal retails for $80 on Amazon but currently there is a $10 coupon which brings this down to $70. For that price we get the gimbal (which is available in black or white) along with a mini-tripod attachment, lanyard, and USB-C charging cable. This gimbal can be used straight out of the box but it’s best to download the “Hohem Pro” app on iOS or Android. It’s worth noting the app has a 1-star rating as of writing this review but I have no idea why. Everything in the app works perfectly. My iPhone 11 Pro connects to it instantly when I use it and I even had an update for the gimbal which was very quick!

The gimbal comes folded in order to take up less space and this is something you can do whenever you want to travel with it. Basically, all of the pieces that move around can be snapped into place so that those pieces don’t move. This is also allows you to use this in a more traditional tripod mode when you are just vlogging or need a stand for stationary shots. Operating this gimbal is very simple and easy. You just unsnap/unfold the gimbal and then just insert a phone into the phone holder with the camera side of the phone pointing to the left. Then just shift the device a little until the phone self balancing. You can now hold the bottom right button until the gimbal turns on. The phone will now be perfectly balanced and every movement you make will be counteracted by the gimbal… it’s like magic!Here is where the cool part comes in! With the app there are multiple presets that make getting cool shots super easy! Your phone connects to the gimbal via bluetooth and then the app will tell the gimbal what to do when you set the preset you want it to follow. The app comes with 7 presets:

• Inception (180 or 270 degrees of rotation)
• Fantastic Rotation
• Panoramic Video
• Smart Motion Timelapse (Awesome for adding movement to your time-lapses)
• Dolly Zoom (Also known as the Hitchcock effect)
• Dynamic
• Lucky

You can also ignore all the presets and just use the controls to pan and tilt your phone in the direction you want. There is also a mode where the phone will point wherever you point the gimbal and even a setting in the app to track faces which makes it great if you are filming yourself. You can also easily switch between horizontal and landscape orientations so you can get footage that is properly cropped for apps like TikTok. My favorite feature of the gimbal is its ability to auto-orient itself when you turn it upside down for cool low-angle shots!
