Zac & Meghan ::: snowy fun engagement session

Zac & Meghan wanted snow to be falling during their engagement session and as we crept into February, we still hadn’t received any snow worth writing home about. But Sunday night it finally snowed enough to go out and have some fun with. We started texting each other Monday morning to set up a time and a location. We decided on meeting at Oak Park, which is in the Riverside area. Usually this park is loaded with people playing frisbee golf, but there wasn’t a soul around. After some fun images and a brief snowball fight we headed downtown to Naftzger Park for a couple of more images. We finished up the session with an image that Zac wanted which was the “Charlie’s Angels” pose.

iPhone Photo Walk ::: Old Cowtown Museum

Recently met up with Ken Davis and Goob Anderson at the historic Old Cowtown Museum for a photo walk because we were having such beautiful weather here in Wichita. I haven’t toured this museum since I was little and it is really fun to tour the area. I highly recommend going if you’ve never been.

Photo walks are fun as they are a great way to get out and stay creative. I met up with fellow photo-walker Ken Davis of DavisPix Photography for a photo walk at the Kansas Aviation Museum. If you’ve never been there you should go. That place is pretty amazing. After lunch we thought it would be fun to stop by the Starlite Drive-In to see what interesting images we could come up. We had really blue skies for about 20 minutes, after that it was back to grey and yucky out.

Overall, it was a very fun day!

Often times I get asked if a couple needs to be engaged in order to go on a photo shoot with me. The answer is no, but if you want photos like the images of Damen and Jeff shown below then the one thing I think you need is to be in love. Because what I look for during a photo session with any couple is how the couple holds each other, the way they look into each others eyes, and the way they laugh and play. Here are some fun images from Jacob and Leah’s very windy engagement session in Salina, Kansas. These were taken on the farm where they plan on having the ceremony and reception.

I can’t wait to see the difference in the landscape for this June wedding as everything will be really green and vibrant by then.

Karen’s photo shoot today was a lot of fun. It was a spontaneous, last second decision to go out and play. It even started snowing in the middle of our shoot. The focus was to incorporate color and expression into Karen’s images while walking around the downtown area.

Don & Melissa are Engaged!!! ::: Winfield Engagement Session

When I was just getting started in professional photography, Melissa was one of the first seniors I photographed. She was very animated and made the photo session a ton o’ fun. Now I have the honor of photographing Melissa’s wedding to Don and I couldn’t be more excited. I traveled to Winfield to photograph their engagement session. Winfield is such a beautiful city with lots of texture. We photographed around Southwestern College’s campus and some fun areas downtown.

I’m looking forward to their 2012 fall wedding

Visiting Colorado…

Getting a chance to hike/photo walk in the mountains of Colorado has been one of just the many things on my wish list ever since I’ve become a photographer. I recently got the opportunity to make that trip with four other awesome photographers from Wichita: Tim Davis, Kevin Brown, Brett Schauf and Ken Davis. Brett & Ken were really the nomads of the trip as they have made this trip a ton o’ times and knew the area very well. I was strictly in tourist mode as I had never been to the part of Colorado that we stayed and hiked around.

I must say, the colors of the leaves were amazing and the view from 12,000 was breathtaking. I was in awe of the beauty around me.

A huge thank you again to Brett & Ken for being the coordinators of this trip. I look forward to any other trips in the future!

Had a super fun time spending the day in Kansas City photographing Ashley & Josh’s engagement session. The weather was awesome and despite it being a bit breezy we still had a lot of fun snapping photos in different parts of the city. One of the fun areas we went to was a warehouse district where we found a business that just happened to have Josh’s last name and Ashley’s future last name. Next was a trip to the Plaza where we tried to get on the roof a business but it turned out to be not very high up compared to the surrounding buildings. So instead we armed ourselves with some Starbucks and ventured around the plaza, then off to Shawnee Mission park for the final set.

Jason & Heather are married!!! Darrin Hackney ::: Wichita Wedding Photographer

I had an awesome time photographing Jason and Heathers wedding last weekend. The wedding was held at the beautiful Church of the Magdalen, and the reception was held at The Ville in Andover, KS. It was a beautiful day for a wedding, the sun was shining for the most part and it did rain a little bit, but we were still able to get some fun outdoor images. I love it when the couple wants to see each other before the wedding, during what I call their first look session because it allows more time to have for creative and fun photos after the wedding and before heading to the reception.
