It is upon us, folks! VMworld 2013 has unofficially begun, especially for all of us that work nearly year round to put this show on. From booth planning, deciding which sessions are the best of the best (out of over 100) to submit to you for voting, to building powerpoints, planning our “big bang,” working on the Hands On Labs, etc etc etc…. the time is here. AND I COULDN’T BE MORE EXCITED! More on that in a bit. First and foremost, I wanted to highlight the sessions that are up for voting from the NetApp vTME team, and our known associates/cohorts/partners-in-crime, so that you’re aware of the diverse selection of content we want to present to you this year. From infrastructure and storage networking, to virtual desktops, to storage automation with vCAC and vCO, we’re bringin’ it this year, and hopefully you’ll see that we’ve been hard at work for all of you. Remember, these are merely the breakout sessions, and are usually a pretty good indicator of what we’re also going to be highlighting within our Global Diamond sponsor booth in the Solutions Exchange (my favorite part of the show). Please excuse the long/large image here, but I wanted to give you a nice list with everything “NetApp” you needed to know. Lots more info below the image! CLICK HERE TO VOTE! “But Nick, I don’t see you listed up there?! Why aren’t you speaking?!” Great question! The reason is, between this blog and our NetApp Communities

On this episode of the NetApp Communities Podcast, we bring in the Microsoft experts at NetApp to give you an update on the Microsoft ecosystem, and a sneak peek list of things you need to check out at MMS next week!

Guests
Glenn Sizemore (@glnsize) - Microsoft Reference Architect, Private Cloud
Robert Briggs - Microsoft Reference Architect, VDI solutions
Chris Lionetti - Microsoft Reference Architect, Hardware Industry Expert, SNIA co-chair

You will not meet a group of more passionate guys doing what they do. Microsoft Windows is the defacto OS, and these guys know more about how it interacts with everything, above and beyond NetApp, than anyone I've ever met. If you're at MMS next week, you will be doing yourself a big favor by spending some time with these guys.

We Want You! We’ve been on a massive campaign of late to increase the adoption rate of VSC utilization/installation in our VMware-on-NetApp customer base. Just a few months ago, we were in the low 30’s %’age range, and we’ve seen some massive growth in this area, likely due to several factors. Customers are realizing the benefits of using VSC in their environment to leverage the “make-the-admin-life-easier” functionality it provides, and the sales team are being more empowered with content to share with potential [and existing, but not using VSC] customers, in an effort to show them what they’re missing. To those of you out there pushing VSC to your customers, peers, and partners, THANK YOU! Your efforts are showing! Please continue to drive adoption, as it greatly helps you and customers be successful, and helps support keep it’s call volume low! Doing a live demo of VSC to new prospects in EBC’s I have done has proven to be one of the most effective tools in truly showing the tight integration NetApp has with VMware. Tech ONTAP Today, a new Tech ONTAP article I wrote was published, specifically around all of the areas of VSC, and what new enhancements are coming in VSC 4.2. With enhanced RBAC, clustered ONTAP adoption exploding, and new version(s) of Data ONTAP around the corner, we’re doing all we can to insure every customer’s environment is set up in the best way possible going forward. VSC is only one of the necessary means, but

On this episode of the NetApp Communities Podcast, we take you to school on NetApp Clustered ONTAP, and give you a 101 introduction to the vocabulary and knowledge you need to know before making the transition. We’re starting a new podcast series, and I think I’m going to dub it cDOT-U. This is the 101 course. Start here, and we’ll add a 201, 301, 401, etc, and more intermediate and advanced courses as we go along, and as new releases are set free to the world. Guests Karl Rautenstrauch – Solutions Architect, Clustered ONTAP Julian Cates – Technical Marketing Engineer, Clustered ONTAP “Klustered Karl” Rautenstrauch authored an extensive guest post here on DatacenterDude.com back in December around Vserver design theory, and is one of THE authorities in the industry on Clustered ONTAP. Julian Cates, a.k.a. @vSkeptic, has been a NetApp employee for almost a decade, spending most of that time in the field as an SE, and joined the “vTME” team in 2011 where he became an industry authority on VMware Site Recovery Manager and other DR solutions on NetApp storage. In January 2013, he took his extensive experience and knowledge of VMware and NetApp, and joined the Clustered ONTAP tech marketing team to bring a true field-focus to cDOT and Vserver design and implementation.
