This is quite cool… a plugin for WordPress which makes your blog Ipad friendly (ie allows users visiting on an Ipad to turn the page by swiping rather than having to click).

A few downsides.. firstly you have to pay for it (not too expensive at $49.99).

Secondly, despite it’s claim to ‘work with your existing theme’, in reality it provides you with 4 new theme options to choose from which bear no resemblance to your existing theme. So in essence, one theme for web, another for Ipad.

Finally, it doesn’t play at all well with pages, so if you’re using WordPress more as a CMS than a blog (which I do on several sites) and have a static page for your homepage, it doesn’t work (at least, i’ve not yet managed it).

That said it’s easy to install and configure for a traditional layout blog, so I can see a lot of people using it as blog bling.

I’ve installed the plugin on this site, so if you have an Ipad, fire it up and visit the site using that to see what the experience is like.

To enter a competition to win some tickets to a gig, you have to get your mates to visit a web page which then slowly ‘reveals’ the artist so you can enter the competition. It’s a nice creative idea and is potentially quite viral but…urgh… it’s got a registration form up front.

Experience shows that trying to capture data up front before giving people the chance to engage with (and trust) your campaign will reduce the likelihood of participation.

I’d have allowed people watch a quick demo video, then used Facebook login as part of the campaign process… “login with Facebook to get your mates to visit your page”, and in doing so got the visitor’s email address.. a good starting point for a data relationship.

Amazing how many brands are still data driven… social media is the new CRM, do you REALLY need my post code?

I’ve been having a play around with the technology on my blog and it’s pretty cool.

At a basic level it allows you to add a ‘Like’ button to posts, which, when clicked on by facebook logged in visitors, adds their name to the bottom of the post and posts a link to your article directly into their wall. Have a look right at the bottom of this post for the like button, and try giving it a click.

Also check out the comments login feature below that, which allows users to login using their facebook credentials and share their comments directly on Facebook.

Finally, once set up your blog gets it’s own facebook application wall. Click the image above to see that in action (although it’s sparse as I’ve not done anything to it yet!)

The whole thing took less than 30 minutes to set the whole thing up, but it brings a great social element to a blog and means even greater potential viral spread for your content.
