February 5 has come & gone....

hey everyone,

thanks so much for all who came to the show on February 5, 2011. it was an incredible evening and we had over 170 people at the show. it was amazing to see God move during the day and into the evening.

a little background on what happened during the day. at about 11:30am i was with my family and suddenly lost vision in my right eye which to me is a direct indication that a migraine is coming on. i got into bed and stayed there for the next 3 hours and spent alot of time in prayer, just praying that i wouldn't have to cancel the show. amazing how when God has something to do, He gets it done. the migraine was still on but was bearable as the show started at 6:30pm. heavy doses of advil & imitrex made it so that we could keep the show going.

incredible evening of music. we had the full band on; frank diminno on drums, jeff constantine on bass, tommy hayes on guitar & jim cobb on guitar.

the best part of the evening was that 5 kids got sponsored through World Vision. really awesome stuff and i thank and appreciate those 5 families that stood up and made the decision to save those 5 lives. amazing....

if you went to the show or didn't go to the show and still want to sponsor a child, it's super easy to do. just stop by here: http://www.sponsorachildnow.net

look forward to seeing you all in the months to come & keep an eye out for the Worship ep, coming April 16, 2011.

dave

here's a few pics from the show:

February 5 is coming, will you be there....

hey everyone,

Wanted to let you know about a very special show coming up on Saturday, February 5, 2011 in Fairfield, NJ. This will be our only full band performance of the winter aside from the weekly worship leading at Liquid Church in Morristown.

We'll be performing at 6:30pm that evening and will be sharing some new music with you as well as some of the older material. This will be our third year at St. Thomas More Church and each year the attendance has been growing. This year we want to have our largest crowd yet.

Aside from hearing some great music, you'll be able to save a life, for just about the cost of a cup of coffee a day.

This time of year, there are a whole new set of problems that so many families face. Here's one story:

THE KOLONOS FAMILY, ROMANIA:

It's a typical winter day in the village where the Kolonos family lives. Temperatures are hovering around 5 degrees above zero Fahrenheit, and the eight children of Mihai and Claudia Kolonos have taken refuge in their one-room mud hut. Without warm clothing, they simply can't go to school on a frigid day like this. Instead, they stay home and do chores like caring for the family livestock, chopping wood for the fire, and gathering water from a well. But the hard work of these children can't change the desperate circumstances they face. Their father, Mihai, must venture out into the village to search for work. The meager income he generates from odd jobs usually isn't even enough to provide basics. The hut in which they live has no electricity or running water.

A cold, harsh reality

"Today, I didn't have a bread crust to give my children for school," admits Claudia, their mother, who is clearly embarrassed that she often can't feed her family of 10. Meanwhile, the family's yard contains no arable land for growing vegetables. They own just a few hens and rabbits, which the children are tasked with caring for, but these animals provide little in the way of food. And one of the biggest tragedies is seeing these curious, intelligent children being forced to skip school so often because of their circumstances.

But with nothing more than thin, worn-out jackets more suitable for autumn than for the depths of the Romanian winter, these children have little choice.

The gift of warmth:

On this bleak winter day, however, a welcome surprise is in store for the Kolonos family. World Vision has arrived with brand-new winter coats for the children, which were donated by generous clothing manufacturers. In an instant, their mood changes. The children run outside, smiling as they pet their animals and celebrate their new gifts. This is a significant moment for the entire family -- not just because the children have found some relief from the frigid temperatures, but because tomorrow, they may actually be able to go to school.

There are children all around the world that are suffering as these children suffer. The work of World Vision around the world is making significant strides towards hope but we still need your help. For just about a dollar a day you can make sure that children like these have food to eat every night, clean water to drink, coats to wear & proper health care. But most importantly you can give these children hope.

Come to the show on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at St. Thomas More Church. Here are the details:

St. Thomas More Church

12 Hollywood Avenue

Fairfield, NJ

6:30pm

Jesus calls us to help those in need. In James, Chapter 1, verse 27, it reads:

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure & faultless is this: to look after the orphans and widows in their distress..."

Join me in helping others.

I look forward to changing many childrens lives on February 5, 2011.

If you can't make the show or are living to far from the venue, you can still help. Click here to start.

I look forward to an incredible evening on Saturday, February 5, 2011.

dave

Hey. happy fall. we're in the middle of working on a new Worship ep that i'm pretty excited about. we're doing 4 songs that i've written to be more worship type songs as opposed to the stuff on the first two albums. hope to have this done by the end of the year but we keep hitting many road blocks...hate it when that happens.

on another note, we just finished the Solo EP volume 1. i'm really pleased with the way it came out and i hope you guys are too. it's available on my indieheaven site. click here to check it out.

a few shows coming up, check the calendar on the site or on my indieheaven page to check us out live. just booked a weekend of christmas shows as well. december 11 & 12 up in New City, NY.

love this time of year....stop by Liquid Church on any given sunday morning if you want to say hello...

dave

Why we do this....

We played a great show last night in Barnegat, NJ. It was great to have the whole band together again, haven't played a full on show in a while, actually since June. Here was the set list:

how great thou art

with my faith

what would i do

god's tv

don't give up on me

teach me how to drive

closer to you

all i need is you

change (follow me)

god with us

tear down the walls

everlasting god

mighty to save

your grace is enough

overall, a great night. had about 150 people there & got 2 kids sponsored through World Vision which was totally cool.

but....

the reason we were there; it was a fundraiser for an organization called the Lighthouse Christian Academy. A christian school based in Manahawkin, NJ. They cater to kids from pre-K through 6th grade. It's so important to support organizations like this. They are building up the next generation of leaders. Last night they had over 100 kids enroll for the next school year. Such a great thing to see parents putting their kids into a school like this. for more info on Lighthouse, stop by their site HERE.

so here's why we do this. God has given us this talent, to use for whatever purpose we want to. we choose to use it to help organizations like Lighthouse, help them raise the funds that they need to raise up a new generation of leaders that lean on God to help make their decisions. We use it to tell people about kids that need your help, kids that live thousands of miles away from us. kids that don't have food, clothing, water, healthcare or hope. kids that need to be sponsored by you. We use the talents God has given us to help spread His message here on this earth.

so the question today is, what talent has He given you & how are you using it?

Thanks for reading, thanks for listening. New music coming soon....

Road catch up....

hey there. just came off of a 5 day run in and around New Jersey. We played in Flemington NJ on Saturday evening at the Connections Cafe. Had a great night & played for about 40 people there. Played a few new songs as well "Don't Give Up On Me" & "Even If Not".

Sunday all day we were in Morristown leading worship at Liquid Church, still great stuff going on there & if you haven't checked it out, not sure what you're waiting for. Incredible preaching & just real relevant messages going on...oh & the worship is great too :) Sunday evening we headed out to Newton, NJ and played for a group of about 120 kids from Pennsylvania. These were high school age kids who were in town for a week working on rebuilding homes for those in need in the local area. Very cool how God works through his body, the church, to show his love to people that have no idea about where it's coming from. Great to see kids getting up & putting God's love into motion in this way.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday we were down in Ocean City, NJ leading worship for a church youth group based out of Virginia/Pennsylvania. Really great stuff & we really enjoyed leading worship for these kids. There were about 100 kids and they were on a 4 day retreat just learning about God & about how God fits into their lives. It was incredible to see how open these kids were with their feelings & what was going on in their lives. So different from when i was that age. I remember just keeping it all inside & not sharing who i was with anyone. Kids are different these days, i like it. God is moving in this generation in such an awesome way.

There was a speaker there by the name of Jim Walker. He gave 4 messages during the week & really hit on some very important stories in the bible. He talked about Peter, about dropping the masks in our lives & about how Barabas felt the night the people set him free & the night they crucified Jesus. Very very powerful stuff. Jim runs a church out of Pittsburgh called Hot Metal Bridge Church. If you're ever in that part of the world, check it out.

Thanks for reading, thanks for listening & we'll see you soon.

Hey, one more thing. Save a life today - http://www.sponsorachildnow.net

you won't regret it....

hey everyone, glad we all made it through winter. Sitting in a hotel room in San Francisco.

Great stuff going on these days. Just booked a gig opening for Mark Schultz in April in Barnegat NJ. Be sure to check that out. Should be a great show. I'll be on solo piano & then Mark will do the same. Just a great night of songs stripped down to their bare bones. Shows like this are actually my favorite types of shows, where the lyrics & the melodies just shine through & you're able to communicate exactly what you want because nothing gets in the way. Looking forward to that night. if you need tickets, click here.

liquid worship has been going great. it's getting better ever week & the spirit of God is moving in ways that i can't even begin to imagine. if you haven't been to a service lately, stop by. here's a quick video of one of the worship moments a few weeks ago. still get chills when i watch it:

http://vimeo.com/9855819

stop by the website to check out the schedule & stop by a show to hear the music.

enjoy life, enjoy living & thank God every day for the little miracles that surround all of us...

dave

hey guys,

hope everyone is having a great summer. if you've been following this blog, you'll know that i've now taken a position as the interim worship director at Liquid Church in Morristown, NJ. it has been incredible to lead people in worship every Sunday. God shows up aand has been changing peoples lives, especially these past few weeks as we've been plowing through the book of Habbakuk. The theme of the series is a "where is God when it feels like He's not there" type of theme, where is God in the dips of our lives, where is God when it hurts....

Week three, which was last weekend, kind of brought this all together & the lead pastor at Liquid, Tim Lucas, & I wrote a song specifically for the day. It's a tune called "Even If Not". Point being, even if it seems like God isn't there, even if the rain is falling hard, even if we can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, we will continue to worship God. He is faithful & true to the very end. This type of "defiant worship" is truly faith making, it strengthens our faith in ways that nothing else can...

Click on the link below to access the video and if you like what you hear, leave a comment here or just stop by Liquid Church on any given Sunday & let me know in person. it'd be great to have a conversation with you about the dips in our lives....

you can find the video by clicking below:

http://vimeo.com/6040277

see you all at a show or at Liquid soon....dave

happy july 4th. celebrate your independence this whole month. send up a prayer to God and just thank him for every person who has ever been involved in creating the freedom that we enjoy today. start with Jesus, the inventor of freedom.

so i just wanted to write a quick post & encourage all of you to get outside. i went for a hike this past friday & saturday. went up to Stokes State Forest in NJ. fantastic place to just get away and spend some time completely alone with God. the trails are in great shape and somewhat challenging but not too difficult. i did 6 miles on friday & another 4 on saturday. definitely stop by High Point State Park and hit the trails there. great stuff.

so here's an update. starting July 19, 2009 i'll be leading worship at Liquid Church in morristown NJ. i'll be there every sunday so if you don't have a church home, please come and join us in morristown on sundays. services are at 9, 11 & 5. it's a great contemporary, laid back church. their slogan is "faith is a journey, not a guilt trip". check it out online here at www.liquidchurch.com.

so this means that i'll be slowing down the number of original gigs that i'll be doing . so when we're in your area, i encourage you to come out, because it may be a while before we get back, OK? we need your attendance at the shows & we need you to tell your friends about the music...send them to my facebook page & have them become a fan. we need to spread the word about this music & about the opportunity & responsibility that we have to help others. i continue to support world vision and their efforts around the world. a child dies every 5 seconds, that is just not right. save one here : www. sponsorachildnow.net.

thanks guys, look forward to seeing you at Liquid or at a show very soon...

dave

hey everyone, sorry for the delay in posting, this has been a crazy month, i had a rootcanal that lead straight to strep throat....yikes, i've been on antibiotics for what feels like the whole month of march. anyway, past few shows have been fantastic, we got 14 kids sponsored through world vision alone this past weekend....very very cool.

speaking of world vision, rich stearns, the president of WV in the US has a new book called "The Hole in Our Gospel". absolutely fantastic book and i haven't gotten past the introduction yet...check out this quote from page 3:

We are the carriers of the gospel, the good news that was meant to change the world. Belief is not enough. Worship is not enough. Personal morality is not enough. And Christian community is not enough. God has always demanded more. When we committed ourselves to following Christ, we also committed to living in such a way that a watching world would catch a glimpse of God's character - His love, justice & mercy - through our words, actions, and behavior. "We are Christ's ambassadors." wrote the apostle Paul, "as though God were making His appeal through us." (2 cor. 5:20). God chose us to be His representatives. He called us to go out, to proclaim the "good news" - to be the "good news" - and to change the world. Living out our faith privately was never meant to be an option

Man, that is some unbelievable stuff.

Want to do more - sponsor a child HERE

A great way to show the world the heart of God is to sponsor & support a kid that you don't even know, who is half a world away, who doesn't even know you exist.

Look forward to seeing you at a show soon, tell your friends about this music, about this blog, about the live show.

All the best & all for Him,

dave

more jesus, less religion.....

hey everyone,

how goes this month? so far so good for us. first off, just a quick thank you to those that have been coming out to the past few shows, we have been having incredible evenings so thanks for attending, it's been great to play for you guys....

so i'm in the middle of this new book called "more jesus, less religion". absolutely groundbreaking book about what a healthy faith looks like. written by stephen arterburn & jack felton, the two guys that wrote "toxic faith", this book looks more at the real relationship with God as opposed to all of the rules that religion puts on God. if you're trapped in "religion" & the rules that bind what man has done to religion, this book will help. here's a fantastic quote, this is from a chapter called "nothing to prove"....

"it is difficult for most of us to measure up. and the more we focus on the world's standards and values, the more negative we feel about ourselves. God has a different system, and if our faith is in Him, we can feel tremendous relief. Christ talked about the worth of an individual. His words are good news to all of us who will never be fashion models and billionaires......".

Then they go on to talk about how Jesus mentions in Matthew that God knows the worth of a sparrow, and that no sparrow could fall to the ground without God knowing about it.

"Now if God knows the destinies of all the sparrows and cares about each one of them, we can feel wonderful about ourselves, knowing he cares much more for us. If our sense of self worth is derived from God, we don't have to worry about what the world thinks of us or does to us. The fact that God sent his Son to die for us should be an overwhelming affirmation of the worth of each individual"

Think about that just for a minute, stop just for a second and think about that. If God sent his Son to die for us.....He truly cares for us. He sent this sacrifice before we were even born, knowing that we were going to need it. Talk about unconditional love....

So if you're interested, check out the book, very cool, liberating stuff. There's a link to it on the right sidebar under what I'm reading now.

Thanks for reading, leave a comment below & if you want to hear some music....stop by http://www.davepettigrew.net

See you around soon...

dave

the shack....

first off, happy new year. hope it's treating you well so far. my sister gave me a book for christmas called "The Shack" by Wm. Paul Young. at first i was very hesitant to start reading it, i'd heard the hype, i'm not one to jump on bandwagons but actually seek out & create my own priorities in my literary life...this book is phenomenal. i've never read a book that has put such real skin on the trinity the way that this one does. i'll admit the first 66 pages were a bit tough to read for me due to the subject matter....evil truly does exist in this world but then we have the other two thirds of the book that just paints an unbelievably (literally) beautiful picture of the God that we serve & love. here's a quick quote that i just love from the end of the book, this is Jesus speaking:

"i don't want to be the first among a list of values: i want to be at the center of everything. when i live in you, then together we can live through everything that happens in you. rather than a pyramid, i want to be the center of a mobile, where everything in your life - your friends, family, occupation, thoughts, activities-is connected to me but moves with the wind, in and out and back and forth, in an incredible dance of being"

that just completely blows my mind. how is that possible. God doesn't have expectations but just wants to "be" in our lives. be in every aspect of our lives almost like a person that just stands beside you in every single moment of your day & is just there, loving every second, wanting to be involved....

hard to grasp but something that i really want to believe, something that is worth believing. if God is there at every moment, life truly can be alot different....

this is my prayer this year, draw close, revel in the fact that we have a god who expects nothing and wants to be a part of the lives that we live.....wow.

dave

I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ[a] the Lord. 12This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
13Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14"Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."

Picture this scene if you will. Shepherds just doing their job at night, looking up into the sky & seeing God's perfect & holy angels come down & deliver this message, a message of hope & love & complete change to the the earth. This is no small announcement, when God makes an announcement like this he sends not just one angel but it says that a host of angels appeared & started singing.....a host. Not sure how many that is but i think it's a lot. Imagine the skies lighting up & a choir of angels singing "glory to god in the highest".

God sent his son Jesus to us. Jesus is born. Our saviour is born.

There is no greater message that we need to hear every day than this. Jesus is born. Hallelujah. We are saved. Forget about everything else for a minute. Focus on this. Focus on this "gift" that God has given us. Forget about the gifts that we're going to get this year, forget about the gifts that we're going to give, the gifts that we think we "need"....

Jesus is here. Jesus is born. This gift is given to us every day, every hour, every minute....

Hark, the herald angels sing, glory to the new born king. Jesus is born.

dave

hey everyone,

just wanted to give you an update. we're about to start recording a 3 song Christmas ep. we're going to do 2 traditional christmas songs & then one original written by my producer Frank Di Minno. It's a tune that we did a while back for a project called King's Highway but we're going to re-interpret it a bit & make it a little mellower. we're pretty excited about sharing these arrangements & these songs with you. look for it towards the end of november.

and as we enter this season of thanks & christmas, keep in mind how unbelievably blessed we are living where we live. this has become so apparent to me lately & is something that i'm really trying to get a hold of. God has given us this life & has chosen us to live in this location so that we can use those blessings to bless others. Remember today to say a quick word of thanks for the life that you live & the place that you live....

See you all at a show soon...

wow. not sure if anyone's every heard of John Ortberg before but man, he is really good. i've been reading a book of his called "The Life You've Always Wanted", absolutely incredible. changing the way that i think about life & the way that i live it....only 100 pages in. here's a thought.....slow down, stop hurrying, take time to relax, get stuff done, but do it in a way that allows you to really take a minute and focus on what we're doing here & why.....

spend time with God today talking to Him about that...it's an incredible conversation.

if you knew that you would not fail? that's the question of the week. what would you do if you knew that anything you tried, would be a success. actually a pretty tough question because we are so trained and so used to the world beating us down & making everything so difficult that if you were given something on a silver platter, it just wouldn't make any sense.

i'm still wrestling with the question but ask anyone who wants to respond to please do in the comments below....

dave

to get to live this everyday....

here's a thought....i was reading this morning in Romans 5.

"troubles can develop passionate patience in us, and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next. in alert expectancy such as this, we're never left feeling shortchanged. Quite the contrary- we can't round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit" - taken from The Message

i was thinking this morning of how unbelievably blessed we are and how thankful i am for all of the blessings in my life. we get frustrated because we think things aren't going exactly the way we want them to go, we think we could be doing better, we could be doing more....but in reality, step back, slow down life for just five minutes and think....think about the many many blessings in your life in the midst of all of the pain....gotta run, my daughter just came downstairs to give me a hug......man, we get to live this everyday, it's unbelievable.

ah, new england comes through.....

hey everyone...we had an unbelievable weekend in Rhode Island & Massachusetts. We played at the TGIF Coffeehouse in South Attleboro, MA on friday evening. What a great place, great people, great venue, overall an awesome vibe....Saturday night we played at the Upper Room in West Warwick, RI. Great place with a really cool vibe as well. We played two sets in each of those venues & then Sunday played at the Faith Chapel Assembly of God in Bridgewater, MA. Had a blast at this place & really enjoyed the church. I played the church service with Chris & the band and then we played a one hour concert after a quick lunch.

What I really want to talk about is the fact that over the course of the weekend, 8 people stepped up and sponsored 8 kids through World Vision. 8 lives were literally changed this past weekend. 8 lives that have been suffering because they can't find clean water, can't get good food to eat, can't get healthcare. 8 lives that matter just as much as our own lives matter to God. 8 lives that deserve everything that we have.

i just want to say a whole hearted "thank you" to new england for coming through. it was an unbelievable weekend that saw lives changed & the love of God broke through.....as it always does.....

if you want to sponsor a child or learn more about kids that need your help....CLICK HERE....

this is world vision's website. lives will be changed, starting with your own...

thanks again new england....

I played a 1905 Steinway & Sons piano. Basically just sat down at the piano & sang the songs & hit record. Very cool way to make a record. I hope you enjoy it as much as i do. Really pleased with the way that it came out.

thanks so much for listening & downloading. thanks especially for supporting independent christian artists.

leave a comment and let us know what you think.

all the best,
dave

hey there.....we tracked a piano vocal acoustic EP last week & are hoping to mix it this week & get it out soon. digitally at first followed by a physical release sometime in the next month or so....i tracked 7 songs from the first 2 CD's with just piano. This is very much like what you see when you come to see the solo shows. i'm pretty pumped about it and hope that this brings a whole new life to these songs.....stay tuned.....
