Mazuma Mobile has chosen David Arnold Music to provide the soundtrack for it’s new TV Ad “Rainbow“.

Mazuma Mobile is the UK’s most popular mobile phone recycling website, and is the first company in the world to spend over £100 million on buying phones.

The brief for this original composition was to represent the brand values and provide an easily transferable end motif.

David Arnold Music’s quirky, catchy soundtrack features the unique talents of Paul Hart (formally of Joe and Co) as co-writer, and perfectly suits Mazuma Mobile’s position as the UK’s highest rated mobile phone recycling company, with it’s bright, contemporary branding.

Children In Need 2010 – BBC 1

David Arnold has been Musical Director of Children In Need since 1994, and this year was again asked to provide not only the Main Title and all incidental music for the show, but also backing tracks and vocal recordings for no less than three separate celebrity musical items.

The producers wanted the show to have a more contemporary feel this year, with an entirely pre-recorded soundtrack rather than a live band on-stage.

This decision involved some interesting challenges – not least the need to meet tight timing requirements. It was certainly the case for the next clip; condensing and re-sequencing a 7-minute epic into less than 3 minutes isn’t easy ! Luckily even hardcore Meatloaf fans were impressed with the result.

The Hairy Bikers Sing ‘Bat Out Of Hell’

(In fact, the results were so good that some people thought the Hairy Bikers were miming to the original – we’re happy to confirm this was not the case !)

The Newsreaders go Ga-Ga

For each item we created entirely new backings using the original versions as references, and then recorded the vocals at TV Centre in London. Mixing and editing took place at our state-of-the art studio just outside Cambridge.

Loose Women Sing Girls Aloud

This final item was performed live on the night, but we still had an important role to play beyond providing the backing – Zoë Tyler is a professional singer and voice coach, so David and Gareth worked with her to help the other “Loose Women” perfect their performances, with excellent results.

Once again the entire evening was a tremendous success, and everyone at David Arnold Music is delighted to be involved.

‘Jamie & Anna’s Big Weekend’ Theme for Nickelodeon

The theme tune for Nickelodeon’s new Saturday morning show Jamie & Anna’s Big Weekend was written, recorded, arranged and produced entirely in-house by David Arnold Music. The brief called for a “Big Show style and credentials”, and required that it should

“…incorporate a big band, showbiz sound (“Live From London”) and be recorded with real instrumentation including live drums, guitars, saxes and brass”

This gave the team a great opportunity to flex their creative muscles – with stunning results, as you can hear. So slick is the final result that one industry insider commented that when he heard it he wondered if the job had gone to an American production company, saying “it sounds as if it was recorded in Hollywood”!

Big Weekend is on Nickelodeon every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

David Arnold composition chosen for new Terry Pratchet drama on SKY 1 HD

David Arnold’s original composition “Magical Mishaps” has been selected to promote the new TV mini-series Going Postal, showing now on SKY 1 HD.

Based on the book from Terry Pratchet’s hugely successful “Discworld” series and starring Richard Coyle, Claire Foy and David Suchet, the show is already proving to be a huge success as the most-watched multichannel show on TV this month.

The Mob Film Film Company selected the tune from Universal Music Publishing’s library music album “Big Screen Orchestra” which was composed, orchestrated, recorded and produced entirely by David Arnold Music in 2006.

Recording the SKY News HD Theme at Angel Studios

David Arnold Music has just finished work recording, editing and mixing the new theme for SKY News HD, which is re-launched today to coincide with the UK’s 2010 general election.

The recording sessions at Angel Studios in London featured the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s full 60-piece line-up, utilising over 132 channels of audio over the two days.

The music editing, sound design, effects and audio mixing took David Arnold and Gareth Williams a further five full days work – all for only 18 seconds of audio !
