type="html">I'm writing this short story over at Lily Childs' 100 word challenge, Lily's Friday Prediction. I posted Part 1 last week. I'm hoping to carry it on every week, if the words are kind. Who knows when it will end or where it will go. I'm just having fun with it.

The words for this challenge were: evacuate, ruby and blade. Hope you enjoy.

The Package, Part 2.

“Piccadilly station.”

A few taps on the laptop and I found the train times.

“Ok, it’s got to be the 13:55.”

I grabbed the phone and dialled, pressing141 before the number.

“What’re you doing?”

I held up a hand as someone answered. “There’s a bomb on the next Manchester to London!” I said and ended the call.

“What the fuck?”

“Look, with security as it is, they’ll evacuate the train. We can’t let the package get away. It‘s too valuable, and I don’t just mean the ruby.”

I grabbed my snub and blade from the drawer. I was going armed this time.

~End~

Comments and feedback are much appreciated, thanks!

Last weeks words were: London, Sham and Collect.

My 100 word piece won last weeks challenge, so the pressure is now on to take this further. Part 2 has already been written and is up at her blog as this weeks words were perfect for it.

Hope you enjoy...

“All you had to do was collect the package, bring it back and get paid.”

“It wasn’t that simple. It was a set-up. Someone else knew.”

“Don’t talk bollocks. It was a simple task that you made a complete sham of. Fuck!”

“What? You think this apple sized lump on my noggin’ is a fucking sham?”

A phone rings.

“What? You sure? It’d better not be some wild fuckin’ goose chase. OK.”

“Well?”

"You’re in luck.”

“Don’t even...”

“OK. We’re in luck. The package has just been seen boarding a train to London.”

~End~

Any comments or feedback would be appreciated. Part 2 will be posted later in the week.

Have a great Sunday.
This is my first Photo-Finish Friday of 2012. It's nothing special, but I just think the words on it are something to live by. After all, it is the reason I bought it and I look at it everyday.

Col Bury, was with me when I bought it. He was gutted. He'd wanted one but I'd picked up the last. Sorry, mate, you could download the photo and put some moveable 'hands' on it. :-)

PFF is the creation of Leah J. Utas.

Have a great weekend, folks.

I had a story published on the last day of 2011 over at Near To The Knuckle.

I Saw What I Saw is a story about taking a shortcut. It's a little bit eerie, a little bit creepy and a little bit weird.

I hope you enjoy.

You can read it here.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank every single reader, writer and commenter that has come across my blog. I appreciate all feedback and comments that have been left over the past 12 months.

I'd also like to thank everyone for showing their continued support for The Flash Fiction Offensive. It's been a hard year but I have loved every single minute of it. Thank you so, so much!!

And, just in case anyone hadn't quite cracked on, the brand new humour magazine "The Laughter Shack" is also mine. A creation that came out of nowhere but hopefully will have a great year in 2012!

Have a great 2012!

Oh, if you get a few spare minutes, go and check out the Christmas Grit stories over at The Flash Fiction Offensive. There certainly have been some crackers.

Also, I've just had a story of my own published at Near To The Knuckle. I'd really appreciate your feedback. Go and check it out here.

By the way, I started celebrating New Year early, so any typos, gramatical errors can wait 'til tomorrow.

Over at Critters Writers Workshop, they've started their annual Preditors & Editors Readers Poll.

I've been nominated in the Magazine/e-zine Editor category. Last years winner was good mate and fellow Manc, Col Bury.

In the category I'm also amongst some fine company. Lily Child's, Lori Titus and David Cranmer, to name a few.

Good luck to all.

Click here to vote for your favourite editor.

I missed Photo-Finish Friday yesterday so here's my photo, which acts as a Christmas message.

Me and my 2 little elfs!!

I'd like to wish each and every one of my followers, readers and fellow writers a fantastically Merry Christmas and a healthy and wealthy 2012. I really appreciate your encouragement and advice and look forward to it continuing next year. Thank you, all!

A classic Christmas song.

Right, enough of the soppy shit. Here's a joke.

A young man moved from home and into a new apartment. It was all his, so he proudly went down to the lobby to put his name on his mailbox. While there, a stunning lady came out of the apartment next to the mailboxes, wearing only a robe.

The boy smiled at the woman and she started up a conversation with him.

As they talked, her robe slipped open, and it was obvious that she had nothing else on. The poor kid broke into a sweat trying to maintain eye contact.

After a few minutes, she placed her hand on his arm and said, 'Let's go in to my apartment, I hear someone coming.'

He followed her into her apartment; she closed the door and leaned against it, allowing her robe to fall off completely.

Now nude, she purred at him, 'What would you say is my best feature?'

Flustered and embarrassed, he finally squeaked, 'It's got to be your ears.'

Astounded, and a little hurt she asked, 'My ears?!?!?'

'Look at these breasts; they are a full 38 inches and 100% natural. I work out every day and my ass is firm and solid. I have a 28 inch waist and not a blemish on my skin. How can you think that the best part of my body is my ears?'

Clearing his throat, he stammered .... 'Outside,.... when you said you heard someone coming....... that was me!'

OK, hope you enjoyed.

If you get any spare time over the festive period, please check out The Flash Fiction Offensive. I've been running a Christmas Grit feature and it runs up until New Years eve.

Anyhow, here are a few of my favourite Christmas tunes. I may have done exactly the same post last year but many a bottle of wine and real ale have been consumed since then.

Enjoy...
This time last year I was racing down to Manchester, thinking it would be the last time I was going to see my father. What a perfect early Christmas present it's been this week to have my parents up for a few days. They are both 72 and finishing work in a couple of weeks so they will be able to get up to see us a bit more often.

Stood at the viewing area of The Queens View (North of Pitlochry). Love you, guys!!

(Yes, I'm sporting a "poor" goatee at the moment. Unsure about it!)

Last weekend we spent some time putting the Christmas dec's up. Lisa decorated the tree and I was in charge of (in the words of the fantastic Clarke W. Griswold) "exterior illumination!"

We had a snowfall last Sunday too, so roads were a bit dodgy on Monday. (Where were the gritters???) It did look spectacular, though.

And my youngest midget and I managed to build a little snowman!

Saturday, December 10th, is the Christmas Fair in the village where our girls go to school. Lisa put our names on the PTA list a few months back, to help with fund raising, etc. She has a little stall doing Christmassy "glitter" tattoos for the kids. Well done, wife! Guess who she suggested would be Santa? Cheers!!!

This is how I want to go.....

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

And.....a joke to finish.

I asked my wife, "Do you think your mother would prefer Riverdance or something a bit more Fred Astaire-ish?"

She replied, "I think she'd prefer it if you stayed off her grave, you twisted bastard!"

Autumn Poem by Imogen May Barber.

Beautiful leaves are falling.
Falling on teds head.
Teddy likes to run around so the leaves
can spread. Autumn leaves are falling
teddy dreams of snow until then were
running through the leaves we go

Autumn leaves are different colours like brown, yellow and orange. I like to run through the leaves and make a big big mess.
The days get shorter and the nights get longer. I am lying in my bed dreaming of fun things for me and Ted.

* * * * *

I'm sure you will forgive a 7 year old for any grammatical errors, we make enough of them ourselves! Ha!

I've not changed anything on the above. It is shown how it was written. She told me that she's not happy with some of the second part but I told her never to delete anything, sentences can always be cut out and pasted back in somewhere else.

She thought I was silly!

Thanks, babe!

Let her know what you think.

Have a great Sunday.

Later!

Snapshot Saturday is my late entry into Photo-Finish Friday.

This week saw the launch of Blasted Heath.

This is a new venture founded by award winning author and literary agent, Allan Guthrie, and his business partner, entrepreneur and social media expert, Kyle McRae.

This new venture is primarily dealing in ebooks - the digital revolution that is transforming the world of book publishing.

In a quote from Allan: "...we are sticking to digital publishing. We are the first digital-only Scottish publisher. We are hoping to publish 30 titles next year, which is fairly ambitious."

In a quote from Kyle: "...with ebooks, you lack the physical product but so what. If you think of a book, with one click you've got it!"

Whether you like it or not - and I was once a skeptic - digital publishing is the way the industry is going. If it's run right, and I believe Blasted Heath are the start of something big, then authors are in safe hands.

To launch this venture, Blasted Heath have The Blasted Box Set of 5 novels all on one USB stick. The novels are by: Anthony Neil Smith, Ray Banks, Brian Pendreich, Gary Carson and Douglas Lindsay. (Click the link to purchase. I've already ordered mine.)

I wish Allan and Kyle every success with Blasted Heath.

The idea came about by Fiona Johnson and Thomas Pluck, backed by Ron Earl Phillips on his Flash Fiction Friday website.

The response to it was awesome, with over 45 stories submitted. It was then decided to do the anthology with 30 of the best stories. The result is the above ebook.

In no particular order, the following writers have given their time and stories to the cause: David Ackley, Kevin Aldrich, David Barber, Lynn Beighley, Seamus Bellamy, Paul D. Brazill, Sif Dal, James Lloyd Davis, Roberto C. Garcia, Susan Gibb, Nancy A. Hansen, K.V. Hardy, Gill Hoffs, Fiona "McDroll" Johnson, J.F.
Anyway, here's my late entry into what should be Photo-Finish Friday.

I was in the garden the other week and left the apple core on top of the bin. I was fascinated watching the wasps munch down on it. There were even a few scuffles. It's quite amusing watching a couple of wasps rolling about having a punch-up!

I just placed my camera next to the apple, set it to super macros and snapped away. This was one of the better ones.

Photo-Finish Friday is the creation of Leah J. Utas. Please check out her blog, The Goat's Lunch Pail.

Have a great Halloween weekend, whatever you are doing.

Be sure to check out The Flash Fiction Offensive. There are a few Halloween stories to read on there.

Later!

I was going to do a post on something else today but this has made my fucking blood boil. There may be a few more profanities in this post so if you’re offended (You know who you are) turn off now. I'm not going to apologise for them.

I don’t normally buy a newspaper as you can get all the latest news on the internet BUT sometimes really important stories don’t make it to the big stage.

So today I bought the Sunday Mirror, as it’s the only newspaper in Scotland that has English news in it. Please don't get on to me about what paper supports what political party.....just read the rest of the post!

Front page headline: Paul McCartney whisks his new bride off to Mick Jagger’s paradise island. What the fuck? The nation is struggling to make ends meet and the papers shove that shite down our throats. Twats! Watch she doesn’t going swimming with sharks and end up similar to your last missus, Paul!

That didn’t put me in the foul mood I’m in though. Page 6 did. The following should have been on the front page.

Headline: The Shotgun Gang Robber…Aged Just 13.

This young boy and his mates, aged from 13 to 18, have been going round their home town/city targeting shopkeepers and taxi drivers and taking their hard earned money. They’ve victimised countless people and shot one man. On Friday they were sentenced to 20 years in prison between them, although the 18 year old was sentenced “indefinitely”? Surely that should mean that he never gets out, so the 20 years is bullshit.

Here’s what I’d do to them. A vasectomy should be carried out on all of them, without anaesthetic and then they go to prison. Because when they get out in a few years for becoming model prisoners and being good boys, they’ll be shagging some local unemployed bird, getting them pregnant and their bloodline will carry on. It's a never ending cycle.

FUCK!

What are their parents doing while all this is going on? Oh yeah, propping the bar up in some pub pissing their benefits up the fucking wall OR in the same prison that their sons are now going to go to.

DAVID CAMERON, STOP FANNYING ABOUT WITH WHAT DR FOX HAS BEEN UP TO, GOING ON YOUR 5 HOLIDAYS A YEAR AND CLEAN OUR FUCKING STREETS UP. WE, AS TAX PAYERS, WILL NOW BE PAYING FOR THIS MASKED GANG TO GO TO THE GYM, PLAY POOL AND HAVE A FUCKING X-BOX IN THEIR….I WOULD SAY CELLS BUT MORE THAN LIKELY THEY’LL BE PLUSH ROOMS.

We are living in the shit bin of the world at the moment and, as far as I can see, it is getting worse because our country is ruled by rich fucking do-gooders who don’t live in the real world.

I can hear the do-gooders now, “Oh, what about their human rights?” Fuck their human rights. If you pull a sawn off shotgun on someone to rob them of what they have worked hard for then your human rights are null and fucking void!

Thank you.

Basically, two people in a car, not saying a word to each other. Give me a story.

Well the guys over at F3 didn't let me down. Thanks to you all and well done to each and every one of you.

Check the stories here.

Here's my lame effort. (Time hasn't been good to me. It's still a WIP)

Confession.

The fresh water gently lapped at the jagged rocks at the edge of the loch. Two small boats bobbed on the water, the orange buoys they were tied to bobbing up and down in time with them.

The whole area was silent, including the interior of the sole car that had just parked in the car park overlooking the loch.

Donald Mason killed the engine and released his seat-belt.

The silence outside was broken by the squawk of a buzzard circling high above the two boats. The silence inside the car was broken by the driver.

“It’s so beautiful here,” Donald mason said, placing his mobile phone on the dashboard and staring through the windscreen.

Autumn was kicking in and the trees were becoming gold and brown, their leaves falling from their branches like multicoloured snow flakes.

“Do you remember, not so long ago, that I had to work away?”

“Yes.”

“I wasn’t working. I was…”

“I know, you needed some space away from everyone.”

“No, no. It wasn’t that.”

“It’s OK. I understand.”

“I need to tell you something. I’ve wanted to tell you…”

“I don’t want to know.”

“You need to know.”

A light mist was forming on the hills at the other end of the loch. Donald started at it, working out what he was going to say.

“I don’t need to know, Donald.”

“Look, what I didn’t tell…”

“Donald, if you had…if you had an affair I’ll…”

“No! In all our years together I’ve never been unfaithful to you. Never.”

“I love you, Donald. I always have and I always will. Whatever you’ve done I don’t need to know. I’ll forgive you for whatever it was.”

“Marianne, I’ve killed people.”

“…”

“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I should have told you. I should never have kept it from you.”

“I forgive you, Donald. I do.”

“I killed three people, Marianne. I took three lives.”

“I love you, Donald. Always remember that.”

The Herald. 14th October, 2011.

Two weeks ago, 53 year old Donald Mason was arrested on suspicion of murder. After a confession during a telephone call to a police operator, Mr Mason was arrested at a Perthshire beauty spot.

Mr Mason, the sole occupant of a silver BMW, was picked up by two local policemen and went peacefully. He was parked in a small car park overlooking the picturesque Loch Earn, a favourite place of his and his late wife, Marianne.

Marianne Mason was the victim of a hit and run incident eight months ago. The victims of Donald Mason are believed to be the three occupants of the car that killed Mrs Mason on that fateful night of February 11th, 2011.

Well, going to look at a job on Wednesday, I took the following photo on my iPhone. I was gutted that I didn't have my camera but I think it turned out pretty well anyway.

First off, my story, Best Mates and Lovers, that was published at Thrillers, Killers 'n' Chillers was picked up by Fiction Daily in the Genre category. I'm pretty chuffed with that one!

Secondly, William Dylan Powell won a 2nd place Bullet Award for his story, Road Kill. That was published by myself at The Flash Fiction Offensive. Big congrats to WDP for a worthy award.

If you missed either story you can find them here:

Best Mates and Lovers.

Road Kill.

Give them a read. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Regarding TFFO, get yourselves over there to read the latest Guest Writer Spot. The current one goes to Lily Childs' and her story of revenge. Read God's Gift here.

* * * * *

Here's my "late" addition to Leah J. Utas's Photo-Finish Friday. I took this yesterday on my way home from work. While the rest of the UK basked in temperatures pushing 30 degrees, Scotland struggled to get much sun. Never mind.

I just loved the way the rays shone through the clouds, like huge torch beams. I wonder what God was looking for? Shit, I've gone all spiritual!

Have a great weekend, folks.

Bird's blog, Sea Minor. I'm not that great at stuff like that, and not really into the whole self promotion thing, but I guess at the end of the day that's what having a blog is all about.

(Don't worry, if anything big happens, I'll be self promoting the shit out of myself.)

Anyhow, I thought about questions I could ask myself but it all sounded a bit, well false. I just couldn't come up with anything.

Then an idea came to me. And they saved the day.

Dancing With Myself.....and The Two Blokes.

Pop over and give it a read. I hope you enjoy and get a laugh out of it.

Thanks!
