Alliteration aside, I’m very excited for the images we’re going to create in the next few days. Today’s image though may me the first iphone photo I’ve ever posted up as the daily shot. There may have been one other but I can’t recall clearly enough to say. Regardless, this is something that I shot while bored on my flight and I’m posting it because every so often I like to reiterate just how little your gear matters to your photography.

I’ve long believed that limiting yourself to sub-par photographic equipment can make you an exponentially better photographer. One of these days I’m going to prove this to you once and for all.

Today has been great regardless though. My morning was spent teaching somewhere around 100 6th graders how to play Go (the game I spoke about yesterday when my board arrived). I’m really happy that in the midst of everything I have going on that I was able to make the time to do that. My passion for teaching this game is second only to my passion for teaching photography and imaging. Yes, it’s that important to me…and yes, it’s that fun.

Anyway, time to hit the sack…after I make sure everything is packed.

Yes people, a photo that has something to do with the gibberish I write! That’s her, and she did a great job. We have several images to share from the session.

Aaaaaand what did the UPS guy nearly die trying to bring to my door? My new (antique) goban! For those of you wondering what the hell that is…

It’s that 45 pound solid block of very very very old wood. This is the traditional board for one of the oldest board games on Earth, Go. I’ve wanted one of these for at least a decade but they are generally very expensive and as I’m sure I’ve said before, I don’t support deforestation. Well, as luck would have it I found this through an antique dealer at a price I just couldn’t pass up, especially considering that it’s at least 100 years old. And now the dream is fulfilled! I was jumping around the house like a little kid for most of the day. It’s a little damaged, and I would really like to get that red finish off of there because the wood is beautiful. But it’s going to be hard to find a woodworker that I’ll trust with it, and I’m a little nervous about what it looks like underneath.

Today was filled with meetings, editing and some advice giving to an old friend who is just getting started on his photographic journey. In the morning I have a brief shoot, a delivery from the UPS guy (YES!) and some much needed grocery shopping. It’s not that I think you really want to know my daily activities…I just don’t have much to say outside of “holy crap I have a lot to get done before Friday.”

What an experience though. I’ve never been able to go behind the scenes at a place like that. I now have something like 400 new bovine friends and a fresh bottle of my favorite thing in their product line…root beer milk. Talk about delicious.

In fact, after writing that I took about 15 minutes to try and pinpoint it. I still have no answer. There’s one more dress left from the session so if all goes according to plan I’ll have that up before I head out of town. Yes, as usual the daily will continue regardless of where I am. I just don’t want to take the drive with those images on it with me.

Gonna crash now, in the morning I have a quick session with the owner of Shatto Milk. I’m pretty excited, I’ve never been to a dairy farm before.

The “Team Rubicon” event was to support the disaster relief efforts of this organization and promote it’s deployment in the KC Metro area. Not only are they helping to aid areas in need, but they are giving veterans the ability to reintegrate and use their skills to serve those in need.

I’m all for this.

I’ll get to it though. As it stands right now there are still a lot of important projects to finish before I head to California next week. For tonight though, I feel the need for a little “Raiders of the Lost Ark” so that’s what’s going down.

The above shot was the one selected for the cover. I’ll probably post my personal favorite sometime within the next few days. I still have to get crackin’ on that fabric shot I promised! That’s the plan for tomorrow after my morning session.

OH! The UPS guy definitely did show up, but I opted to resell what I got and upgrade with the profits. Not that the suspense is keeping you up at night or anything but I’ll go ahead and tell you what is on it’s way. One of my favorite games is an ancient board game called Go. I’ve wanted a nice board for a very long time, but they’re really expensive and buying a new one basically supports deforestation. I’m not down with that. So, I finally found an antique that fit what I was looking for. Anyway, it’ll be here before I leave for California next week and I’ll definitely post a photo on here, though it’s not likely to be the daily photo.

I’m anxious to get to bed because the UPS guy is supposed to be here tomorrow. The faster I get to sleep, the faster I wake up. It’s like Christmas morning. My luck he won’t show up until 6pm…but here’s hoping!
