Congress has two bills, SOPA and PIPA which are intended to stop piracy.

And that’s good, right?

Yes, except that they overstepped in what the bills say. Actually, with that legislation every site you visit is at risk and if accused must face litigation.

Consider this...

Sites like Facebook are particularly at risk because users like you and me can put whatever we want on our own Facebook pages. While we’re not supposed to infringe on copyrights some users do. According to that bill, Facebook, for example, could be charged with copyright infringement and forced to shut down operation.

Whatever your feelings about Facebook, it’s a great example of how a site could be affected because of their broad sweeping language.

Internet segmentation

The laws also want to segment the internet, which allows the US government to block certain sites that they deem appropriate. That’s a scary thought when you consider that they could shut down ANYTHING they want. Operating that kind of technology puts our freedom of speech at risk.
