David Yoder's Awesome Art Blog

2014-01-16T07:06:00.000-08:00

This has probably taken a lot longer than other people to get to this post number but here I am!

I wanted to let people know I'll be attending the Indiana Comic Con March 14th-16th, I'll be in the Artist Alley Section. I'm thinking about making this as a sticker or print for the show:

I'm also planning to have some small watercolors for sale and maybe do them on the spot. Sort of similar to this:

AND I should also say this will be the last post on Blogger, I've imported all the previous posts to a Squarespace design I'm happy with. So now if you go to davidyoderisawesome.com it will redirect you there, thanks for the good times Blogger. Here's the new site so far: http://www.davidyoderisawesome.com/

Inspired

2013-11-17T21:03:00.001-08:00

Just got back from the grand opening of the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum grand opening in Columbus, Ohio. Incredibly inspiring and saw some talks that made me want to take notes similar to the ones I did for Visiting Artist Week when I attended the Center for Cartoon Studies. I should point out the quotes and likenesses are approximate not exact.

Sorry if some of the handwriting is messy, didn't bother to clean it up too much- it's a sketchbook! Also saw a conversation/panel between Jeff Smith and Paul Pope the first night but those didn't really turn out so well.

Indoor Kids Contest Submission

2013-11-04T18:35:00.000-08:00

I don't know if you listen to The Indoor Kids Podcast, but I do and it's great. It is mostly around video games and features comedian Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon. They recently opened up a contest to make a design for their merchandise and I whipped this up. Kumail was all about getting "chicken sandwich" to become part of the lexicon but I don't know if it ever really took off. Here's their website: http://www.nerdist.com/podcast/the-indoor-kids/

I don't know what this is ...

2013-01-13T08:44:00.001-08:00

I'm trying to work on new comics but it's a slow process, often delayed by netflix, listening to podcasts and playing video games. These are a couple things I did manage to draw recently:

Troy and Abed in the Morning

2012-09-26T13:40:00.000-07:00

Thanks to everyone that came to check out my site from the USA Today Pop article. Here's the back cover to the Community fan comic that I decided to color. Sorry if the colors look weird, I'm getting over a cold (let's blame that). This comic kinda explains why I made the fan comic in the first place.

Giant Nephew Baby

2012-09-23T08:02:00.002-07:00

I posted all of Giant Naked Baby in the COMICS section, or you can go directly to it HERE.

Apologies to my sister for stealing this picture of my nephew.

Mr. Ryland and Mr. Yoder

2012-09-21T08:44:00.004-07:00

I've posted Mr. Ryland and Mr. Yoder in its entirety in the comics section, check it out HERE. The drawing above was a going away present from the REAL Mr. Ryland, Ryland Ianelli. You can check out his awesome stuff HERE.

A Fan Comic About Community

2012-09-18T14:06:00.004-07:00

SPX was great! Thanks to everybody that stopped by my table. I decided I should go ahead and put the Community fan comic up in its entirety. You can get there by clicking the image above or going to the COMICS tab.

Little Yoder Bags

2012-09-13T19:11:00.003-07:00

I made up a bunch of these bags that I'll be giving out at SPX if you spend $10 or more at my table. Here's what it looks like with some comics in the bag:

It's a little dark, but you get the idea. Hope to see you there! It's this Saturday and Sunday at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Convention Center, in Bethesda Maryland. I'm at Tables I13-14 with Joey Weiser, Adam Aylard, David Mack, and Drew Weing. Here's a map to give you an idea:

SPX 2012

2012-08-16T18:29:00.001-07:00

After much delay of posts, here is the cover image to my new mini-comic that I will be debuting at SPX 2012. It is a 24 page color comic about Community, specifically dealing with my worries about the show since the creator Dan Harmon was fired. Should be fun, and hope to start posting pages real soon.

Ryland and Yoder Last Page

2011-10-06T08:00:00.000-07:00

That's it! I don't plan on doing anything new with these characters, but hope you liked the story. Up next: GIANT NAKED BABY!

This was a chance to show my love for the show Madmen. In that middle panel you can spot my versions of Peggy Olson, Don Draper and Roger Sterling.

Alec Baldwin Hosts SNL, I draw pictures

2011-09-25T10:25:00.000-07:00

Last night I tried an experiment of watching SNL and drawing little panels on index cards while watching it. Here's the results:

The opening skit parodied GOP debates, and the monologue was basically about how Alec Baldwin is breaking the record of most times hosting SNL. Steve Martin and Seth Rogen made guest appearances in the monologue.

The first skit (I think there was a fake commercial I missed) was a take on As the World Turns or some soap opera that is ending. Then there was a skit about an oblivious/botoxed reporter played by Kristen Wiig.

Alec Baldwin as Tony Bennett reviewing movies on Weekend Update was pretty funny I thought, but the rest of WU was not as strong as sometimes.

I missed a skit called "Who's on Top?" a game show about who would be on top if certain celebrities had gay sex, and I also didn't get a drawing done for the Top Gun DVD where everyone got to do their impressions. I think Bill Hader as Alan Alda is one of my favorite of those. Surprisingly the last two skits of the night where actually kind of funny. One about Alec Baldwin on a date where his daughter is trying to get his attention and the other about soldiers dying and making improper last requests.

Overall I thought it was pretty good premiere, and maybe will do the same thing again next week or with other tv shows. If you want to see blurry photos as I draw them next week, check my twitter at http://twitter.com/awesomeyoder
