PSG: David Beckham deal '95 percent complete'

Paris Saint-Germain have offered David Beckham an 18 month contract worth $18.7 million. Club officials on Monday told French sports newspaper L'Equipe that a deal to acquire Beckham is "95 percent complete." The Galaxy, Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers also reportedly have made offers to Beckham.

Beckham said last week, after an exhibition game in Australia, that he would not make any announcement about his future plans until after Christmas.

"I can tell you that as of today it's certainly not a done deal," Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said Monday.

"I think the Galaxy are very much interested in bringing David back. Again, it will be David's decision, but we're keenly interested in keeping the player here."

Beckham officially becomes a free agent on December 31st.

Los Angeles Galaxy won its first MLS Cup with a 1-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo. The championship was secured by Landon Donovan's goal in the 72nd minute on pass from Robbie Keane.

Beckham was brilliant throughout the postseason: "We've been through a lot this season," Beckham said. "We've had a lot of games. Bruce and his staff are the ones that got us to this game tonight."

Los Angeles had the most expensive roster in MLS history, but the Galaxy got full value from their three highest-priced players (Beckham, Donovan and Keane), particularly in the playoffs.

He got 59.8 per cent of votes cast by media, players and club officials, and won over the other finalists, Charlie Davies (D.C. United) and Dominic Oduro (Chicago Fire)..

Becks missed most of 2009-10 season after suffering an injury while he was on loan at AC Milan. The English mildfielder returned this season to play 26 games - the most in a season since he moved to the US - while also contributing 15 assists and 2 goals.

Becks paid himself an extra $4 million last year from new endorsement deals, according to a filing today by his Footwork Productions Ltd. He endorses Adidas and Pepsi among other companies.

Beckham’s total 2010 earnings from the company, which doesn’t include his Los Angeles Galaxy salary, rose 31 percent, the filing shows. Forbes magazine in May put his total earnings at $40 million.

It’s the highest revenue for Beckham’s company since 2005, when he played for Real Madrid.

His five-year contract with the Galaxy ends in November and, according to L’Equipe newspaper, Paris Saint-Germain is among teams that want to sign him.

Beckham didn't die in a car crash, and the false death reports about the soccer star have angered his fans.

In another prank from a hoax tabloid "Global Associated News" on Wednesday, the soccer star died in a single vehicle crash on Route 80 between Morristown and Roswell. The site stated that paramedics pronounced Beckham dead at the scene.

"Highway Safety Investigators have told reporters that David Beckham lost control while driving a friend's vehicle on Interstate 80 and rolled the vehicle several times killing him instantly," the site reported.

Fans then turned to Twitter to see if reliable news sources were reporting this accident. But they couldn't find any.

Neil Warnock played down the Beckham rumours during his Thursday press conference but did not rule anything out.

Negotiations are underway for LA Galaxy to make yet another appearance in Australia, after their high-profile meeting with Sydney in 2007 and last year's clash with Newcastle United.

While Victory and Sydney are the frontrunners, Perth's millionaire owner Tony Sage's deep pockets could swing the battle Glory's way.

Glory chief executive Paul Kelly said it could cost up to $2 million dollars to bring the team to Perth.

"Beckham in itself is a worldwide brand and ... it was only last week he was on the front of Women's Day, so I think he'd have that appeal for anyone in general, not just football supporters.

The latest addition to Becks' luxury car collection is a custom Ferrari 612 Ascaglietti worth some $300,000 and bearing the number ‘7’ logo, The Daily Mail found out.

The black shiny car was spotted in the driveway of the family's Malibu summer beach house, where the Beckhams went surfing over the weekend.

The engine used on the 612 is an 5.7 V12 that was also used on the 575 Maranello, the Tipo F133E that produces 533 hp and is able to propel the car to a top speed 315 km/h (199 mph).
