I got in touch with him then, and asked for a permission to possibly work on a standalone version based on his code (which he gladly approved). The idea was making it easier to use for the less code-savvy developers or artists. Unfortunately due to my hectic life and work schedule, I couldn’t find any time to do so. Well good news: he did it himself !

-K- is a close friend of mine. She’s in her early 20s, and she’s not a designer. But she’s one of the most creative force I’ve encountered in recent years (though she seems to be unaware of it). One thing I love to do with her is chatting while she’s drawing random stuff on sheets of paper. What I do afterwards is I carefully gather her basquiatesque artworks and start studying them carefully.

The following picture, cropped and highlighted from a much larger canvas of feminine, nervous, energetic and original imagery, is an example of the vast array of things that K does.

I’m seeing a bag here.
When she drew the shape, I quickly mentioned this.
She didn’t deny and went with the flow, spitting quick ideas as they came by before drawing something else and changing subject… new subject being more or less related to koi carp tattoos.

I later tried to re-work on designs based on this – a moment captured – with results leaving me more or less satisfied.
Being unable to get to the purity of this raw creativity, I can only try to approach it on tiptoe.

Oh…. yeah I know. I fucked up my newsletter (like, messed up the title and stuff). So don’t mention it.

-K-, thank you so much.

I intended to use it subtly on some art piece I’ll start working on by the end of August.

For non-coders and non 3D-savvy, you may stop reading here.
It’s a displacement mapping done with a Pixel Bender shader. I had been working on a similar displace effect myself (with pure Actionscript – I have no knowledge of Pixel Bender) on my spare time for the last two months with no results whatsoever. So this comes very handy.

On these booties the same LEDs installment would look too weird (at least in my opinion) and too cumbersome, altering the overall shape of the shoe. I opted for a calf leather set of graphic elements cut and glued together on the varnished leather skin of the shoe, while the LEDs chains are to be found within the sole. The batteries are stuck inside the bottom part of the heel, and the electric circuitry transits from the heel to the front of the shoe via this extra “bridge” between the two.

I’m sorry I have not posted in a while. Work, many, many things to prepare.
But don’t worry, I’ll be posting new works soon.

Take care,
