This weekend saw some good fishing, we set out on sat 8.30am sharp with eight local regulars ,with an hour left of spring tide before slack water we decided to get the pick down as soon as possible for some bream, an hour later and a dozen bream for are troubles it was decided to go and hunt for some cod. Having steamed to another mark over slack water the tide was just starting to run so over went a range off baits and all manner of rubbery things to try and tempt the nations favourite Mr Cod, a couple off hours later and half a dozen fish had made it to the ice box the biggest tipping the scales at 14lb along with a few off those pretty golden one’s what their name? Oh yes pout. The afternoon saw the wind die away to nothing and another move was decided on, this time to try for some Bass the tide was running hard so anchoring would have been a pain so drift fishing was the order off the day with many reefs and wrecks to fish we really are spoilt for choice, in the end we did a bit off both the net result being some 15 Bass for the afternoon, this might not sound so impressive when you here tails off lots of Bass in Portland race but there average size tends to be much smaller and these fish averaged 8lb each with the best pushing 12lb ! Plenty off nice reef Pollock around with stacks of bream and the first channel whiting are now starting to show which we will be targeting over the next few months hopefully with a few cod in among them.

Take Care and Tight Lines matt.

25/07/09

June has been a good month for us fish wise and with the weather, lots of nice flat sea’s which makes the fishing so much more enjoyable but unfortunately now we have moved into July its all gone a bit ‘tits up’ again. Strong westerly’s inevitably accompanied with rain. Watching the forecast on the T.V, I have to make sure it’s not a video playing on a loop of last summer. The Bream are here in larger numbers and the overall size should increase from now until the end of October. The Cod are still here but their numbers are starting to decrease as you would expect in late July. Plenty of Congers on the ledges , caught one yesterday pushing the 90lb mark along with a few Huss, unfortunately I haven’t had a chance to target any Tope yet but will as soon as I get the opportunity. It will be interesting to see if the Triggers turn up this year, I thought they might if it stayed settled but now who knows?! As with all fishing only time will tell.

Tight lines & take care Matt.
