How to copy uncopyable files from a CD

With time files stored on a CD or a DVD can be corrupted. Scratch marks, finger marks and dust make it hard for CD and DVD ROMs to read and extract the content. Did you ever wonder how to copy uncopyable valuable files from a damaged, scratched, dusty CD or DVD ? This post is about how you can copy these uncopyable files By using free software called CD Recovery tool box. You can restore lost information as a result of some mechanical damage of the disk (scratches, chips, different spots on the surface) or as a result of incorrect recording. Thus, the program can recover data that was considered lost.

Let's get started with the installation. You will have the download links on the bottom of this post. Download the setup files using one of those links. Double click on the CDRecoveryToolboxFreeSetup file to start the installation. Click on the run button to bypass the security warning on Windows XP.

Click next to start with the installation. Follow the simple on screen instructions to complete the installation.

Once the program is launched press next to continue.

Choose a location to save your recovered files.

Select the files you want to recover and click on save button.

Wait until the recovery process has been completed. This might take some time.

AMD FX Vs Intel core i5

Over a month ago AMD has released an 8 core desktop processor called AMD FX. Today’s post is about if it’s any good against the Intel core i5 processor. Note that Intel core i5 processor is not the fastest processor which Intel produced on their core series. If we go back to our AMD FX processor line there are 4-core, 6-core and 8-core to be chosen from. You can only have 2 or 4 core setup on Intel core i5 product line. So the question is, can AMD’s new FX processor can beat Intel Core i5 processor ?

Before we answer to that question, Here is a processor comparison between AMD FX Vs Intel Core i5 on technological wise.

Also according to the PassMark CPU bench marking AMD FX lays on 24th place from the top while Intel core i5 lays 37th place on the list.

So will AMD FX beat Intel core i5 ? The answer is yes & No. If you're using AMD FX for video rendering, video encoding or to run Multi-threaded applications yes it will beat the Intel Core i5 processor. But If you're on to games, definitely Intel Core i5 will beat AMD FX because most of the games are designed to use less than 3 cores or so, it will not take the advantage of a 8 core processor.

Also you can buy AMD FX 8-core processor around 210 USD and Intel Core i5 2500k for around 216-224 USD by the time I'm writing this note. Surely prices will go down with latest future processors of both of these companies.

If you are using Microsoft Windows operating systems on your PC definitely you will notice that with time your computer is getting slower and slower. Reset System and Hidden Attributes for Files or Folders Caused by Virus

Different virus causes different type of damage on your computer. Most of the time the virus are programmed to disable Windows Task Manager, Regedit, command prompt, folder options and etc. These restrictions are meant to prevent a normal computer user from using these built-in Windows diagnostic tools to remove the virus from computer.

There’s another type of virus that will hide your document files by setting the hidden and system attributes to the file. You can still see the files if you set to show hidden files and folders plus disabling hide operating system files. If the virus is capable of restricting Folder Options, chances are you think that your files has been wiped out by the virus but in fact it is hidden in your system.

Here’s how to check if the file is still around, and if it is, you can reset the attributes of the file to view it normally in Windows Explorer. Here’s how to show hidden files and folders or system files.

1. Go to Control Panel and open Folder Options.

2. Go to View tab and select “Show hidden files and folders”. Then uncheck “Hide protected operating system files”. Do take note that some virus that are still active in computer will revert the changes that you made. So make sure your computer is clean from virus first by scanning with an antivirus program.

You can follow the following steps to create a batch file and undo the changes that has applied to the hidden attribute on your folders.

1. Make a text file in Notepad and call it Unhide.txt

2. Put the following line of text in the text file and save it
attrib -h -s %1

3. Close Notepad and rename the text file to Unhide.bat so that it will be treated as a batch script file. (Note that you'll need have extensions for known file types showing, so if they're not a trip to Folder Options is in order.)

If you have read my previous post about "How to Activate Windows XP Without a Product Key" I'm pretty sure that you will need to read this also. There is a possibility that you will receive a error message which says "This copy of Windows must be activated before you can log on" after 30 days. Since you have already activated the windows it will not allow you to go to the desktop. So what do you do to log back in ?

Boot into "Safe Mode".

To do this, turn the laptop on and press F8 as it is booting up.

Go into "Safe Mode" by choosing the "Safe Mode" option.

Once you are at the desktop in "Safe Mode", Click "Start" then click "Run".

At the run command prompt type the following EXACTLY

rundll32.exe syssetup,SetupOobeBnk

*NOTE: The "Oo"'s in Oobe are "oh's" - not "zero's" There is one space after rundll32.exe. It is case sensitive as far as I know.

Click OK

Wait a few seconds - the screen may blip a few times or so.

This just reset Windows Activation for 30 days.

Reboot the PC into normal mode

How to Activate Windows XP Without a Product Key

Did you just install, or reinstall Windows XP on your Computer, and when you are trying to activate the software, Microsoft says that your product key is not genuine, the product is no longer available for retail sale, or the number of activations have been exceeded? It may ask you to call Microsoft to get a new product key, or purchase windows 7.

Instead of going to this trouble, or instead of spending hundreds of dollars, to get a new genuine product, here is a way to make your product activated Without a Product Key.

Click on Start

Find and Click "Run"

Type: regedit

Click the plus next to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"

Click the plus next to "SOFTWARE"

Click the plus next to "Microsoft"

Click the plus next to "Windows NT"

Click the plus next to "CurrentVersion"

Click "WPAEvents"

On the right panel, find "OOBETimer" then double click it.

Now, highlight all values, then delete them

Then type in the following value : FF D5 71 D6 8B 6A 8D 6F D5 33 93 FD

After that, click 'OK'.

Next, on the left panel, right-click WPAEvents, and then click on "permissions"

Click "System" or "SYSTEM", then click the box "Deny Full Control", and then click 'Apply'.

Now you can exit the Registry Editor by clicking on the red X in the upper-right corner of the Title Bar or, while holding down the ALT key, press the F4 key.

To verify that it works, Click on Start, then "Activate windows", or click on Start, then All Programs, then "Activate windows"

If it says that Windows has been activated, then the trick works.

Show Hidden Passwords Masked Behind Asterisks or Stars

In most of the places password field is protected and masked with asterisk marks or stars. Masking of password is good security measure but, in some cases, there may be a need to reveal and show the hidden password string or value hidden behind the asterisks. when user forgets or misplaces the password for particular website or service or software application, it’s possible to retrieve and recover the password from the saved password, if user can reveal and view the masked password hidden under the asterisks on password field on web pages or program’s user interface.

SnadBoy's Revelation v2 is a freeware that you can use to show hidden passwords masked behind asterisks or stars. You can download it from here.

You need to download and install this program on your computer. After you run the program you will see the instructions on the bottom part of the program.

How to reset a forgoten administrator password

Forgetting the administrator password for your PC is one of the worse things that can happen to you. Recovering passwords are not that easy. You can always look for third party software solution but most of the time they are not for free. In this article I'm going to explain how you can reset your administrator password in case if you forget it. This trick will works on Windows XP. To do this you'll need a bootable windows XP CD.

Change the BIOS settings on your PC to allow it to boot from a CD.

Put your bootable windows XP CD in to the CD Rom and once you see the "Press any key to boot from CD" message press any key on the keyboard.

Press Enter on Welcome screen and hit F8 key to license agreement screen.

Setup will display your existing Windows operating system and you need to press R key to start the repair process.

Setup will copy some files and restart your computer. When it is rebooting do not response to the "Press any key to boot from CD" message.

It will continue the setup and look for the progress bar on bottom left hand corner. Once you see "Installing devices" in there press Shift+F10

It will open up the command prompt and you need to type the following command in there and press enter key to continue. NUSRMGR.CPL

It will open up the user accounts window on your control panel and from there you can simply select the administrator account or any other user account and can press Reset Password button.

Once you finished resetting the password you can type exit on the command prompt to get rid of it.

Continue the setup until it finishes and that will save your password changes to the system.

Note:- All your programs and Data will be safe because we just did a repair on the operating system.

Backup SMS stored on your Sony Ericsson phone

We all love to backup our important SMS messages on our mobile phones. Storing messages won't be a problem for high end phones because they can store huge number of messages on the phone memory. But what happen if you run out of your memory ? or you accidentally wipe out all the messages on the phone ? In this article I'll show you how to backup and restore SMS stored on a Sony Ericsson mobile phone.

To do this we need to pair up your Sony Ericsson mobile phone with your PC using Bluetooth or Infrared. We also going to need a freeware called floAt's Mobile Agent 2 which can be downloaded from here.

Install floAt's Mobile Agent 2 on your PC and pair up your mobile device with your PC. This program will detect Bluetooth, Infrared and also Virtual Bluetooth serial connections and will detect the phone automatically. For me the best method was connecting my phone using Bluetooth serial connection. You can create Bluetooth serial connections easily using a program like bluesoleil.

If your phone was successfully detected from the program it will sync with phone and it will take you to the main page of the floAt's Mobile Agent 2 where we can start our work.

To Sync your SMS click on the link called Sync Messages on the Inbox section upper left hand corner.

Click on the link called Inbox to access your messages.

Select the messages you wish to backup and go to Tools -> Export -> Export Messages

Select a location where you want to save your messages, select the save as type as "CSV" and type name for your file and finally press save button export your messages.

To import previously saved messages Click on the link called Inbox on the main page of floAt's Mobile Agent 2 to access your messages.

go to Tools -> Import -> Import Messages

Select the CSV file you wish to import and press open.

How to add an image to yahoo mail signature

Most web based email service providers let you attach a signature on out going emails. For this post I’m going to write about yahoo mail. Yahoo mail is letting you to add a signature with different fonts and colors, but adding an image to your signature is bit trickier.

Before you add an image to your signature you want to upload it to a free image hosting site. For example you can use ImageShack for this. Upload the picture to the site and open it in full screen mode from your web browser. Press CTRL+A to select the image and then press CTRL+C to copy it.

Log in to your yahoo mail account.

Select options on right hand side and select “more options” from the drop down menu

Select signature from left side pane.

Select the option “show a signature on all outgoing messages” if it is not already selected.

Look at the top right corner; if it is saying Rich text click on it other wise leave it as plain text.

Click on the empty area and type what you need as the signature.

Click on the place you need your picture and press CTRL+V

That’s it. If you followed all the steps correctly you should have the picture attached to your signature.

How to insert SATA drivers to your XP CD

If you purchase a latest laptop their is a big possibility that you can't install windows XP on them. The XP setup program doesn't recognize the hard drive on the laptop. Some people may think why I need to install XP on my new laptop. Because Microsoft released two of their operating systems after windows XP. But still lot of people preferred to have windows XP on their computers. Let's go to our problem once again. The reason for this is Windows XP CD doesn't contain the SATA drivers for your laptops hard drive. There is a option on windows setup that you can load these drivers but unfortunately it requires floppy disks. No one uses them any more so we have to find an other way to solve this problem.

nLite is an amazing software that lets you tweak and hack your XP CD to the core with an extremely easy to use user interface. You can download it from here.

To start creating your custom XP CD you need to download the necessary SATA drivers from the manufactures website. It will depend on what brand of a laptop you have. Download the SATA drivers to your computer.

Launch nLite after inserting Windows XP CD into the drive. Choose to make an image of Windows XP in a directory of your choice. Click next and proceed to skip import or load previous settings step by clicking next and proceed to next step.

On the next page, you will find a “Drivers” tab. Click on it and also check the bootable ISO option and then click on next. Click on the button at the bottom to insert the driver. Give the location to the folder where you extracted the SATA driver. You will find a couple of inf files, select any one of them. Now select the all the driver files. That is it, click Next.

You will now be asked for confirmation, select yes and let nLite integrate the driver and create a bootable image. Burn it on a CD by just hitting the Burn button at the bottom and you will be ready to install Windows XP on your laptop.

Error in mshtml.dll for IE8 and Yahoo Messenger

Few days back in my computer yahoo messenger started to crash. I'm using the latest version that is of cause version 10 for yahoo messenger. I have reinstalled the program, but it didn't fix the problem. So, I have check the event viewer on the computer for more details about this problem. This is what I found on the log.

To look for a solution I have launched my Internet Explorer 8 web browser and soon found out that it also having a problem displaying web pages. Tab's are reloading and the web browser crashes few times during that. In the event viewer I got this.

So, in both cases the fault has been generated by mshtml.dll

I have tried to replace the file which was located on C:\windows\system32 but nothing happen. Then I have uninstalled IE8 from my computer and since then my yahoo messenger working without any problem. Since I'm using Firefox as my default browser I haven't reinstalled IE8 on my computer.

Unable to open drives by double clicking

Most of the time this is caused by a virus or malware. This type of viruses and malwares mostly spreading through a flash drive which you are taking everywhere. The problem is when you have removed the virus or malware using a virus remover or malware remover still you can't open drives by double clicking on them. This happens because the changes that happen to registry values not been set to normal by the virus or malware removing software. So we need to manually correct them.

First of all we need to check the hard drives for autorun.ini files that can cause this problem.

To do that go to start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Windows Explorer

From the left side pane click on the one of your drives.

On the tools menu go to Folder Options. Go to View tab and select show hidden files and folders. Also uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) setting.

Look for any autorun.ini files on every hard drive partitions and delete them.

Go to Folder options once again and undo the things you have done in step number 3.

Then go to run then type "regedit" to get the registry editor.

Go to Edit menu -> find or click "ctrl+f"

On Find what field type "mountpoints2" then press Find Next button.

Delete the registry entry which found by the find command.

Run this command until you didn't getting any results for "mountpoints2" value.

That's it. Problem Solved.

How To Change the iPhone’s Root Password

If you have Jailbreak & Unlock your iPhone or iPod Touch you have a big security issue on the device. This haven't been revealed until a Dutch hacker gain access to an iPhone when it is jailbroken using the SSH service. No harm was done in the action and the users have to pay 5 euro's to get the instructions to remove the message that appears on their device. But later he cahnged his mind and setup a website to provide the instructions free for hacked users. On these days there is a worm called RickRoll pretty much doing the same thing. So, the best thing to do is change the default Root Passwords for your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Resetting the password is not a big deal. There are two ways to do that.

(1) From the iPhone.

We have to download a free app called "MobileTerminal" in order to do this. Search on Cydia for this app. Once you have MobileTerminal installed, launch it by clicking its icon.

Type su and hit enter

Then enter the old password (the default one is alpine)

At that prompt, type passwd

You’ll then be prompted to enter the new password. so just type in your desired new password.

You’ll then be prompted to re-enter the new password.

Once it returned to the prompt tap on the screen and exit from the application.

(2) From a SSH client tool.

Download and install a SSH client tool like PuTTY or WinSCP

Find your iPhone’s IP address so that you know where you need to connect to. To do this, go to the Settings app > WiFi > tap on the blue arrow to the right-hand side of the WiFi network you’re currently on (the one with a check next to it) > make a note of the IP Address entry listed there.

Use the IP address as the host name or server name to connect to. Choose ssh as the connection method, SFTP as the protocol, and 22 as the port number. Use the username root to connect with and alpine as its password

Type passwd on the prompt

You’ll then be prompted to enter the new password. so just type in your desired new password.

You’ll then be prompted to re-enter the new password.

Type exit

Event ID 52 Hard Disk

On your Windows XP computer, Administrative tool section on the control panel might be a place you haven't checked for a long time. It contains some nice tools that you can track everything about your computer. It requires little bit of IT knowledge to handle those tools but you can always use a search engine for dig more about them.

Recently I was looking at the event viewer (Which can be found on Control panel -> Administrative Tools) and I noticed that my system log contains a warning with Event ID 52

The driver has detected that device \Device\Harddisk2\DR2 has predicted that it will fail. Immediately back up your data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent.

It was a old IDE hard drive on my computer, but I have valuable information stored in there. On first I was having doubts about this error message and I was keep look for the same Event ID on the system log. I noticed that It appears every day for a long time in there.

To make sure that I have a disk error I have looked for a free Hard Drive Scanning tool. I Found a nice tool called "HDD Health v3.3" which can be downloaded from here. This tool will detect existing problems on your hard drive and show you warnings. This tool shows Hard Disk health and Hard disk temperature which allows you to quickly identify your faulty hard drives. In my case hard drive temperature was too high and hard disk health was drop down to 40%. I have immediately turn off my computer and disconnected the power for that hard drive. I'm planing not to use the old hard drive until I buy a new one. It was my pure luck not to have this problem on the hard drive that my OS runs. So I can easily disconnect the hard drive and keep using on my computer until I can get a new hard drive.

Jailbreak & Unlock iPhone 3G - 3GS On New Baseband

If you have accidentally upgrade your iPhone 3G or 3GS in to new Firmware 3.1.2 with baseband 05.11.07 and if you want to Jailbreak & Unlock it Blackra1n now has the ability to do that. If you are reading my blog I have posted a article about Jailbreak with Blackra1n earlier. On that time Blackra1n was not supported for New Baseband. Blackra1n will work on Both PC and MAC and the steps to Jailbreak & Unlock the iPhone is very simple.

1) Download Blackra1n from blackweather website. Click the appropriate logo for PC and MAC users.
2) Connect your iPhone to your PC. (Make sure that you have close the iTunes)
3) Run the Blackra1n.exe file.
4) Click on make it rain button.

That's it. There are few more steps that you need to do in order to unlock your iPhone. Once your phone is rebooted look for a icon call Blackra1n. Click on the Blackra1n icon and start the program. Look for a package called sn0w. Click on that one and install it. Once you done that your iphone will be unlocked and you will be able to use any sim card in there.

If you have lost your WiFi after the Unlock follow this. Go in to settings Click general then network now go in to cellular data network scroll down and click reset settings now your WiFi Should come back.

Sharing stuff on Facebook is nothing new to you. According to Facebook developers blog, Each week users share more than 2 billion pieces of content on Facebook. In order to do this most of the time users click share on Facebook button which found on many of the current websites. One of my old blog post explained why these sharing buttons are important to placed on your blog. Now speaking about share on Facebook buttons Facebook has just released a new Facebook Share Button which includes a live counter that tells you how many times an item has been shared.

Windows 7 Release is an old news now since it happens on 22nd of October 2009. But the excitement to have a newer Microsoft Operating system is always very huge. With the bad feed back which they got for their previous Operating system "Windows Vista" Microsoft promise this will be the replacement for all those problems. But Apple (Other main competitor in Operating system industry) is not sure about this promise and decided to use this for their new commercial. But Windows 7 become the biggest pre-order item in the history of Amazon UK. After 8 long years since Microsoft has released Windows XP now Microsoft users have a solid operating system that can replace their Windows XP computers.

If you’re interested about prices, the price is $319 for Windows 7 Ultimate, and $299 for the Professional version ($219 and $199 for the upgrade, respectively). Windows 7 Home Premium will be $199, and an upgrade from either Vista or XP will cost you $119.

Can't see Google ads on blog or website

There are many possibilities which cause this problem. First of all you need to check that you have latest Java and flash player installed on your computer.

Most of the time this will fix your problem. If this doesn't fix it there are few more things that you can try.

Check whether you have a firewall installed on your computer which preventing ads to be displayed on your blog or website.

Check some other blogs or web sites which have Google ads on them. If those websites showing ads correctly check your Google Adsense account. May be it has been disabled. If none of blogs or websites showing Google ads we have to follow more steps.

You can try installing an other web browser on your computer. If you are using Internet explorer try to install Firefox or Chrome and check whether its showing ads on your blog or website. If the other browser shows ads without any problem your web browser has a problem. If you are using Internet explorer you can reset Internet explorer to default settings. If none of web browsers shows Google ads there is another option we can try.

There is a possibility that your computers hosts file become infected or changed by a virus. The hosts file is located on this location on Windows XP.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

You can replace the hosts file from an other computer. Copy and replace the existing hosts file and try again to view your blog or website.

Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 Firmware with Blackra1n

On last Thursday (October 8th 2009) Apple releases their newest iPhone OS. So, it will bringing the current version of the OS to 3.1.2. Three bugs has been fixed with this update. If you like to know what are the updates that has been done on new iPhone OS please click here. Yesterday On the iPhone blog posted a news about releasing a jailbreak called blackra1n for this new Apple OS 3.1.2. This will only work in Windows operating systems and if you already have a unlocked iPhone 3G or 3GS don't use this on them. Do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your iPhone unlocked.

Gmail introduced themes back in November 2008. If you still didn't use themes for Gmail please read this article about how to use Gmail themes. Google Redesigned is a CSS style which redesign Gmail interface. This will also dress up Google Calender and Google Reader. Google Redesigned is built for Mozilla based browsers (Firefox) and other browsers are not supported.

To install this on your computer First install Mozilla Firefox web browser if you don't have it already on your computer. Then click here to start installing it. You can also install it from Firefox add-on page.

Once you installed it correctly it will show you something like this on your browser window.

(Source Facebook Statistics) Apart from basic Facebook activities like comments, photo upload, video sharing the best thing to keep you occupied on Facebook is Facebook Apps. Especially Facebook games. Multiplayer games like Farmville, Mafia Wars, Texas HoldEm Poker are on the top of the list.

In my country farming games like Farmville, Farm Town, Barn Buddy and Farm Pals are more popular and Facebook users spend most of their time on them. Normally girls don't like to play computer games but on Facebook it's a different story. There are lot of girls playing these online games.

Personally I'm not interested in Facebook games even I'm a PC gamer for long time. But for the people who love it here is the Facebook game page which contains all the Facebook games.
