Hey there.

I feel suddenly silent lately, but it is not for lack of activity, productivity, nor creativity. Nor for lack of reading lots of blogs on the internet! I feel especially inspired by the season, the snow, the cold, interior styling sites, new friends commenting, food, colors, light and costumery. My mind is running a happy million miles an hour.

I should have some new linkage to share very soon.

in review: ice fishing

This last weekend we visited a close family friend and some other friends in the Wausau area. It was timed so that we could attend an ice fishing tournament on Saturday. I don't fish, although I really enjoyed it as a child.

That stated, I absolutely adore the community and, as much as that, the literal and lovely assault of my senses by: the roar of augers, snowmobiles, and four-wheelers; the passive-aggressive cold; the blinding sun; the crunch of snow; the rush of heat when entering a shanty; and the smell of wood stoves and grills.

Just a quick hello and happy almost-weekend before we head up north to an icefishing tournament. While I no longer fish myself, there's nothing like a shanty town on the ice. And, oh-em-gee, I've been told that the wind has blown the snow off of the ice and I might need cleats to walk.

I LIVE FOR THIS.

Now, I was thinking of writing a post to say that I won't be posting this week, but past experience has taught me that putting such a statement out there will somehow lend to me having material to share every single day. THAT STATED, it is my intent to take a break and not put any new entries up for about a week. (I will still read and comments on others' blogs as much as possible.) Mostly, this is a matter of productivity and I NEED to get a few specific things accomplished, like, yesterday. If I am efficient, I'll be back sooner.

I wanted to post some good linkage today, but I didn't spend much time online this week to discover or look for inspiration.

That stated, one of our very favorite bands has collaberated on an opera and you can listen to the entire thing online FOR FREE right HERE. It is a, hrm, modern opera. I absolutely adore the result and listened to it twice today.

'Tomorrow, In A Year' is a collaberation between The Knife, Mt Sims, and Planningtorock. From here:

"Commissioned by Danish performance group Hotel Pro Forma to write the music for their opera based on Charles Darwin and his book ‘On the Origin of the Species’, The Knife decided to make this a collaborative process, working with artists Mt. Sims and Planningtorock for the first time, to capture the huge width of the Darwin and evolution theme. They extensively researched Darwin related literature and articles, with Olof attending a field recording workshop in the Amazon to find inspiration and to record sounds."

It is still getting colder here. We will be walking on top of the snow for a while instead of sinking into it. That's my current excuse for putzing around outside.

This last weekend, the temps rose to just above freezing. Trudging through the snow became difficult as it turned into quicksand. Boots sunk through the muck instead of staying atop that frigid solid white. My ears winced whenever I heard the words "January thaw". I averted my eyes as each icicle, one of dozens, slid from the roof of the house and to their swampy death.

Being a creature of winter, I don't like warm anomalies.

The weather has swung back. I can walk atop the snow once more. There's an icicle graveyard along the side of my house and a slick spot just off the curb.
