Tulip Table Topper

Just finished putting the binding on this beautiful tulip table topper. I used Dazzling Reflections kaleidoscope software to create the center of the tulip and using my inkjet printer printed the image onto "printable fabric." I'm really pleased at the end result.

I love being able to create my own "fussy cut" designs for my projects. There's lots of different "printable fabric" available now; washable, dry clean only, different types of fabric, cotton, silk, etc. Choose the one thats right for your project. The one I used is from June Taylor and is dry clean only, I'll spray my topper with Scotchgard to protect it.

If you like to sew this is a great technique to create something that is truly an original!

Vinyl Key Fobs for Machine Embroidery

When designing new items I try to think of multiple ways that they can be utilized. This new embroidery project is a great example of that.

We used several kaleidoscopes from the "Kaleidoscope Collage Sheets" to make these machine embroidered key fobs.

Making your own custom key fob has never been easier. With a few pieces of colored and clear vinyl and your own photo you can stitch out gorgeous, one of a kind key fobs from a single design file.

These key fobs are stitched entirely in the hoop then folded over and adhered together to complete the design, no snap button required.

Customize the center with your favorite kaleidoscope or photo measuring 1.5” x 1.5” that will be protected by a clear piece of vinyl stitched on top.

These are quick and easy to make and include detailed instructions with photos guiding you through the whole process. A 5" x 7" hoop or larger is required.

Also available as a circle.

The finished key fob measures approx. 3.5” x 2.5”.

Growing up I always associated Valentine's Day with the sweetheart candy, with that as my inspiration I came up with this cute machine embroidery design:

Sweetheart Mug Rug (In The Hoop)

This project requires an embroidery machine with a 6" x 10" hoop and is made completely in the hoop. 2 heart applique hearts with sentiments and a beautifully stippled background.

Make it your own by changing the fabrics for the background and hearts and if you have embroidery software you can even change out the sentiments.

This would be a great project for the home or office. Finished size is 9.5" x 5.5"

English Toffee Recipe

Although the holidays are over I thought I'd post one of my favorite family recipes for English Toffee. This is something I make only at the holidays and everyone looks forward to it.

Here's the recipe for this delicious treat, sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.

English Toffee

1 lb of butter (2 sticks)

1 cup of white sugar

3 tablespoons of water

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

1 bag of chocolate chips (light or dark)

1 cup of chopped nuts, I used a mixture of nuts

¼ cup of nuts finely chopped

You will need a candy thermometer for this recipe. Make sure you have everything prepared before you begin as you will have to act quickly once the toffee comes to temperature.

Using a medium size sturdy saucepan melt the butter, sugar, and water on medium heat stirring slowly, don’t melt too fast as this can cause the butter to separate.

Clip your candy thermometer to the side of the pot and continue to stir the mixture until it reaches 300^O degrees, this will take 20 minutes or so. Remove from the heat and quickly stir in the vanilla, then the nuts.

Pour mixture onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and spread out to desired thickness.

Take the bag of chocolate chips and sprinkle on top of the toffee mixture then place another cookie sheet on top, make sure it’s not touching the chocolate. After 5 minutes remove the cookie sheet and the chocolate should be very soft and melted, spread evenly over the toffee and sprinkle the finely chopped nuts on top.

Place in the fridge to cool for at least 3 or 4 hours, longer is better. Once the toffee and chocolate have hardened you can break it into bite size pieces.

Enjoy.

Gingerbread Snowflakes Cutting Files

Today is December 1st and you know what that means .... we are in full holiday mode! I was watching the Food Network Cookie Baking show and was impressed by all the different cookies they were making. I usually make Gingerbread cookies and love the man women variety but thought wouldn't snowflakes be beautiful. Although I know I don't have the skill or patience to decorate them I know that I can create them digitally and that they would be perfect, so here they are my Gingerbread Snowflake cookies, and the best part no calories!

Gingerbread Snowflake Trio Cutting Files

You get 3 beautiful snowflake designs in this set, each consists of 2 parts; the background and the snowflake.

Since these are vector files you can re-size them as you wish, cut large and hang from the ceiling, cut smaller and decorate the tree or use for gift tags.

For those of you into vinyl cut the snowflake part and use for window decorations, add to picture frames, mirrors, or place in the center of a charger plate.

Create Unique Custom Frames

With the holidays just around the corner we are thinking about gifts for friends and loved ones. It can be a challenge but we have a great idea for you.

Take your favorite photo and make a kaleidoscope frame then add your favorite quote or sentiment in the center. Create digitally or print and cut by hand.

Turn your creations into wall and table top art, make a calendar, create a card, or have printed onto coasters.

Here's some ideas:

Does your family have a saying or motto? Make a frame using your family photo and add the motto to the center.

Make a kaleidoscope frame from a seasonal image and add a verse or sentiment and display for the holidays.

Make one for yourself, like the one in this email. I plan on framing this and displaying in my office.

These are just a few ideas and I'm sure you can come up with a lot more.

Paper Globe Glitter Ornament

Creative Ideas for Summer Photos

With the Labor Day weekend upon us it won't be long before Autumn is here. Before you get started on those projects here's a few ideas for finishing up some Summer memories.

Using Dazzling Reflections Kaleidoscope software in combination with your favorite digital editing program you can create one of a kind scrapbook layouts or wall art for your home or office.

Export and Save your kaleidoscope from Dazzling Reflections as a "png" file and import into your graphics program ..... let your imagination and creativity go wild.

New Machine Embroidery Projects for Autumn

I can't believe that November is hear, this year has gone by way to fast. Anyway I've been working on some projects for Autumn, a table topper and a wall hanging, both turned out great.

The table topper is a machine embroidery file. The edges are satin stitch and the leaf veins are bean stitch. I used a variegated thread for the veins and it looks great!

I just finished the wall hanging this past weekend, it's an applique project. I used my Bosskut Gazelle to cut the fabric for the applique ..... love this, it's quick, accurate, and a lot less stress on my hands (no more cutting). Hear are some photos:

I didn't have enough fabric to complete the back so I improvised by doing some creative patchwork, and I must say, I think it turned out great.

Octagon Flower Top Boxes

We always need gift boxes for birthdays, hostess gifts, and the holidays. These gorgeous boxes can be cut to color coordinated to the occasion or season.

They measure 3" tall and 6" across, so there's plenty of room for that special gift or goody!

The box tops are cut in silhouette to showcase the flower. If you prefer to hide the cut out an octagon insert is included.

Dazzling Butterfly Basket

Tammy Malone from Not Just Paper and Glue has created this beautiful Dazzling Butterfly Basket using Dazzling Reflections software and the Butterfly Dreams template pack. She has put together a great video tutorial showing you how to design this basket and also how to create a "print and cut" file for the Silhouette Cameo or Portrait. This project was also embellished with the fine glitter from P.K. Glitz.

This project is great for Spring decor and would also make a wonderful centerpiece for a Mother's Day brunch or breakfast in bed.

I just love Owls, those big expressive eyes! I've always thought kaleidoscopes would make dramatic owl eyes and have been working with Dazzling Reflections to develop a technique to do so ...... here's the result.

Kaleidoscope Christmas Tree

This past weekend I spent some time making Christmas cards. I wanted to do something special and came up with this idea of using a kaleidoscope to make a Christmas tree. Not only is it unique, but economical .... one kaleidoscope yields 8 trees.

This first card shows a curved edge bottom to the tree, this is accomplished by using one of the circle kaleidoscopes.

This second tree shows a straight edge bottom, this is accomplished using an eight sided kaleidoscope.

I used glitter from PK Glitz, various Cuttlebug embossing folders, and rhinestones to embellish the cards. Click below to view a video tutorial showing you how to make both these trees.
