Belgish Lodging:

This is a lodging at Belgish trading centre in Isiolo. it is made of straw and rough mud walls. It has two beds in each room and a bed goes for Kes100.

Here you pay for a bed, you may end up sharing a room with a total stranger (even a woman and a man can share a room.. well i suppose so) Word goes round that there is a District Commissioner who once slept here.

He had chaired a baraza after which a heavy downpour followed and caused flash floods, his Landrover sunk in the desert sand forcing him to spend the night here.

He slept inside as his bodyguard stood outside all night with a G3.

Birds of nuisance in Isiolo Kenya.

"Birds of nuisance?" Isiolo County, Kenya.

The sight of these migratory birds is indeed captivating. However they have messed up government buildings and business premises within the town from their guano. The white excrete produces a pungent whiff which some locals claim is medium of spreading airborne diseases. The birds usually migrate to the town and perch on large acacia trees where they build nests hatch and leave once the nestlings are old enough to fly. But due to global "weirding", the unpredictable seasons, the birds too have been caught up hence decided to pitch permanent camp in the area. In the process most buildings and pedestrian paths are awash with the white stuff. Public health officer, environment officers and wildlife officers are at loggerheads on what action to take. The wildlife conservationists maintain that the birds should be left to hatch and leave at their own pleasure; they say any destruction of the unhatched eggs is a violation of animal rights. Public health officers believe that the shit mayhem is a health hazard and want the birds to be flushed out............ foresters too can't allow the indigenous acacia trees which house the birds of nuisance to be cut down...

WWII memorial monument: This is a monument that honours WWII African soldiers who lost their lives in the battle. However, unlike other districts in the country which have a war memorial cemetery, this one only states that these group was buried "in this district"......... My next feature is to try and unravel this mystery.. It could within my office compound.....

After touring Daaba Primary School in the wilderness, it was time for a bite. Daaba is a school in Isiolo County Kenya. We were there with a team of staff from Sarova Shaba Lodge to inaugurate a block of two classrooms.

It was fun filled day with a lot of tree planting activity.....

2 May, 2012: Sandwiched by Samburu morans; Adamas Lerika and Ingrinas Lokoa at Oldonyiro trading centre in Isiolo County.

I should admit i really had some good time in this remote village. The two morans fresh from the bush kept me abreast with a lot of information from their world.

The are is a should-visit for those who would like to stay away from the slavery of their mobile phones and the Internet.

This is an rea where life is so simple that the bothersome demands of technology and civilisation can be wished away.

Great area for refreshing over a weekend.

I was heading to Oldonyiro village in Isiolo County when i saw this breathtaking rocks. I didn't see any local along the road so i cannot for sure tell what they call it. but one thing is for sure; it is looks awesome.
