Watchmen: Silk Spectre II

In my defense, I wanted to say that I would have loved to have made the rest of the cast – Dr. Manhattan, Nite Owl, Ozymandias, and my favorite character Rorschach – but I made the character to rush during the holidays where I had a bulkload of orders so sadly, didn’t have much time to do so. I’m a huge Watchmen / Alan Moore fan though, so it’s definitely on my to-do list, albeit with a billion other dolls I want to do.

So for now, just a little Laurie Jupiter, aka the Silk Spectre II!

Gintama: Shinsuke Takasugi Crochet Doll

Here’s another series that I know pretty much nothing about. Yay.

Shinsuke Takasugi, which if I heard right is one of the more major villains of the anime series Gintama. It is HARD to try and cut butterfly shaped patterns on his kimono, especially considering the scale of the figure involved, so I am hoping that the patterns look nice enough even if they don’t resemble winged insects of any kind.

Yami no Matsuei: Byakko Crochet Doll

A testament of my age are the anime I’ve watched in the past, and it shows. I don’t think a lot of the new avid anime watchers these days even remember those good series like Maison Ikkoku or Slayers, and I don’t think even the popular ones like Ranma 1/2 and Vision of Escaflowne (or even Rurouni Kenshin) are mentioned by most anymore.

One of these is Yami no Matsuei (also known as Descendants of Darkness or Darker Descendant), which was a 13 episode anime with some decidedly subtle and hinted at yaoi content (Muraki is a scary seme), though the manga covers a bit more than that. It’s the first few manga series where I fell in love with the gorgeous art, and also the first manga I actually bought and completed, even though the artist has never officially finished the series, capping it at (I believe) 12 volumes. One of the adorable characters that never made it into the anime series (his human form never made it, anyway) is Byakko – one of the gods that main character Tsuzuki is able to summon. Byakko is seen in the anime in the form of a gorgeously pure white tiger, but his human form is just as pretty:

haven’t touched a Playstation or video game console in such a long time now, it’s almost sad. This is also considering I still don’t have much of a social life, and can’t even blame it on video games anymore. That’s why I’m not well-versed in Tales of Symphonia – nowadays, the Final fantasy series (and waiting with bated breath for any upcoming Suikoden series on the horizon) is the only few series that I make an attempt to catch up on. I have to say that Arche s most definitely a cute character though, one of those pink-haired magic-using witches with the slightly mind-altering outfits some moe girl might opt to wear. 8 inches tall, and comes with her very own removable broomstick!

Alex Pettyfer Crochet Doll

I don’t often get requests to make dolls of an actual celebrity rather than the character he portrays, but I do get them every once in awhile. Case in point: Alex Pettyfer. I don’t really know all that much about him, although I’ve heard of his name because some of my friends fawn over teenaged (or twenteenaged) celebrities to remind me every now and then that I am getting old.

The doll was based on this Alex Pettyfer pic.

I figured it looked unique enough, especially with the cross tattoo on his chest, that most people who know who Alex Pettyfer can actually make the connection. My main frustration with making celebrity dolls is that a lot of celebrities don’t always have a kind of costume or set of clothes they’re most associated with, so I’m glad this one came out pretty similar.

Bleach: Kurosaki Ichigo Doll (bankai version)

Yet another version of Ichigo Kurosaki from the anime series Bleach! If you’re keeping up with both the manga and the anime, you’ll probably know of Ichigo’s bankai version, with kickass awesome black cloak. Someone requested for this instead of his traditional shinigami outfit, and I think I like this version better!

X-Men: Wolverine Doll

Featuring my absolutely favorite comic book character of all time, with all the snikting, and the bub-ing and the “best at what I do but what i do isn’t very nice.” stuff! A little miniature Wolverine with his own treated cardboard claws and funky hair! Doesn’t help that I crush on Hugh Jackman too. It took me awhile to figure out how to make the gravity defying hair without actually making it look gravity-defying, but I think I found a pretty good compromise.

One of these days I am completing the full X-Men roster. I’m particularly keen on making a Deadpool doll, hopefully just in time for the Ryan Reynolds movie coming out too. As such, this doll has been made for a customer, and has already been sold.

Star Wars: Luke Skywalker (and a Star Wars baby mobile)

A slightly late addition to the list of Star Wars crochet characters I have around – featuring (finally) Luke Skywalker himself! This was actually requested by a customer as part of a Star Wars mobile he wants to make for his baby – which is either the cutest, or the geekiest, thing I have ever heard.

I tried to fashion what the Star Wars baby mobile was going to look like; it’s not the actual baby mobile, but it’s a general idea of what it’s probably going to look like:

Ghost Hunters Dolls

Given my background and interest in all things supernatural and monsters, Ghost hunters is one of those guilty pleasure television series that I foten watch despite my natural aversion to all things that follow some reality show format. It’s people investigating ghosts and haunted houses and crap, which has always been my dream job, and sure beats watching Kim Cardashian being an idiot each and every time.

Final Fantasy VII / Advent Children: Reno Doll

A very belated Merry Christmas to all! I took a week or two off for some personal time and actually stopped crocheting within that period. Crocheting is always fun, but I guess taking a very short break is a good thing too; my poor hands get a chance to rest, if anything else. But now t’s back to sporadic posting!

I think I was supposed to showcase some of the Final fantasy dolls I’ve made here, but I keep on getting sidetracked. Also, I am running a lot late on posting here because custom orders have been taking up most of the time that hasn’t already been allotted to work and writing and other kinds of crap. So while I’m assembling the others, here’s a big plushie doll of our favorite Shinra Turk Reno, all 8 inches of him!

I mean the doll, by the way.
