Okay so I have to tell you about this because I genuinely wish someone had told me sooner. If you have a Disney trip on the horizon…. or you’re in that early stage of “I want to go but have no idea where to start”  please keep reading.

I used to plan our Disney trips myself. I’d spend hours on forums, watch YouTube videos about rope-drop strategy, stress about which resort was worth it, and white-knuckle the 60-day dining reservation window at exactly 6am. It was honestly exhausting. I love Disney, but the planning was starting to feel like a part-time job.

Then my friend told me about using a travel agency (sounded a bit old to me, like 1980’s TWA style). She referred me to a company called Best Day Ever Vacations and now I’ve been recommending them to everyone since.

So what is it, exactly?

It’s a travel agency that specializes in Disney, Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, Universal, and resort trips. You get paired with a travel agent who handles all the booking for you. And here’s the part that still kind of blows my mind: it’s completely free. Like, zero cost to you. They get paid by Disney, so you’re not paying anything extra. It’s the same price you’d pay booking directly. You’re just not doing it alone.

When I first heard that I honestly assumed there had to be a catch. There wasn’t. No hidden fees, no pressure to upgrade anything, no weird upselling. My agent just… helped us plan an amazing trip.

What the actual process looked like

I filled out a little form about our trip — dates, who’s coming, rough budget, what we were hoping for. My agent got back to me quickly, asked some follow-up questions (like the ages of my kids and whether we’d been before), and then just took it from there.

She handled the resort booking, kept an eye on promotions and flagged us when a discount came out that saved us money, and set up our dining reservations. I didn’t have to set an alarm for 6am. I didn’t have to remember any windows. She just did it and let me know it was done.

Any time I had a random question in the months leading up to the trip, “should we get park hopper?” “is this resort worth the price difference?”  I just texted her. She always knew the answer.

The stuff I really appreciated

Honestly, the biggest thing was just feeling like someone was in my corner. Disney trips are a big deal, they’re not cheap, and you want them to go well. Having someone who genuinely cares that your family has an incredible time (and who has clearly spent a lot of time in these parks) made the whole experience feel less stressful from day one.

They also caught a room discount that came out after we’d already booked and automatically applied it to our reservation. I would have missed that entirely on my own.

Who I’d recommend this to

First-timers, absolutely, there is so much to figure out and having a guide makes a huge difference. But honestly even if you’ve done Disney a bunch of times, it’s still worth it just for the time savings alone. I’ve been to Disney World four times and I still learned things from my agent that I didn’t know.

It’s also really great if you’re coordinating a bigger group trip, traveling with little kids for the first time, or just don’t want to spend the next three months deep in Disney planning forums. Which, fair.

The verdict

If you’re planning a Disney trip, just use them. Genuinely. It costs you nothing, saves you hours of stress, and you end up with a better trip because someone who actually knows what they’re doing helped plan it. I’ve already recommended Best Day Ever Vacations to three friends, (well one is more of an acquaintance) and I’ll keep doing it.

Here’s a taste of what you’ll need to decide:

• Flexible vs. fixed dining times (and figuring out what “flexible dining” actually means).
• Which shore excursions are worth it.
• The best cabin location (trust me, where you stay on the ship matters—rocky seas are no joke!).
• Show reservations (yes, some performances fill up!).
• Drink and internet package options.
• Navigating the Carnival Hub app.

Add it all up, and it can feel like a part-time job on top of everything else you’re juggling, you know family, a real job, all the fun things that come with life.

Enter the Travel Agent

A few years ago, I decided to give a travel agent a try. To my surprise (I will be honest, I was shocked), agents offer their services at no additional charge, which is a game-changer. (Though I’ve heard some agents charge fees, my experiences have been fee-free!)

At first, I wasn’t sold. My initial attempt to find an agent via Google only led to basic quotes and lackluster service. But after my friend (you know, the kind that will talk your ear off) raved about her agent (calling it “life-changing”), I decided to give it another go. I checked out their reviews and reached out. Let me tell you, and I hate to admit it, but she was right, it was a total game-changer.

A Wow-Worthy Experience

I submitted an inquiry, and I don’t know if it was even an hour before someone reached out to me.  They asked all these great questions that I would have never thought about when planning a cruise; they wanted to know my family’s preferences and what we wanted out of our Carnival Cruise. It felt like chatting with an old friend who genuinely cared about helping us plan the best vacation ever.

We ended up booking a cruise on the stunning Carnival Jubilee; that ship had everything. It was just so fun. Fantastic dining options, entertainment for all ages, and an awesome kids’ club my kids adored, and fun cocktail bars for the grown ups. 

Stress-Free Planning

You know how they say the best part of the trip is the anticipation. I never got that because I was always so stressed out trying to make sure everything was right for my family to enjoy the trip. I was doing all the planning and thus all the stress.

So this time, the fact that our agent didn’t just book the trip—they helped plan the entire experience. It was the BEST feeling in the world as a mom. I mean, they created a personalized itinerary that covered sea days, port stops, dining reservations, and showtimes. They also gave us invaluable tips for getting the most out of the ship and excursions. I was not joking when I kept saying to my agent, “So all this planning is FREE?”

Instead of stressing about the plans, I got to look up the fun things, like checking out the fun excursions we are going on and what shows are on the ship. The icing on the cake? A few months after my booking, my agent noticed a sale and found us an upgraded cabin for less than what I originally paid. This kind of service sealed the deal—I’m now a lifelong client.

Yet, what lingers most vividly in my memory is the enormous, beaming smile that never left my daughter’s face throughout our whirlwind girls’ trip to the Big Apple, and for me, was how everything was handled for me.

I am going to do two things today.

1) I am going to give you a glimpse of our Adventures by Disney Vacation,

2) I am going to go over how I booked the vacation, and why I would always book it this way.

Planning my Adventures by Disney

First off, I had no idea what Adventures by Disney was. I was talking to my friend from work who was talking about her amazing Adventures by Disney trip to Italy, my response was I didn’t know Disney was in Italy. After she was done laughing at me, she explained that Disney offers private guided vacations to different countries.

It sounded amazing so I was in. I began my search and then I quickly realized I was way in over my head. I didn’t know where we should go, what cities or countries are fun for kids my ages, how to book all this….. I WAS LOST.

So to make a long story not so long I called my friend back up and asked her how she decided and she gave me the name and number of her Disney Travel Agency (which I avoided the first time she offered it to me, because I thought they charged money…. and it turns out its the opposite, they pretty much ave you money)

Working with a Disney Travel Agent

So, I called up my friend’s Disney travel agency, (by the way it’s called Best Day Ever Vacations, they’re awesome) and it was the best experience.

We chatted over mine and my families wish list, places we’ve never been and places we’ve always wanted to go. Honestly, It was like chatting with my best friend, but who happened to be a travel agent.

Anyways, we ended up narrowing it down to two destinations and finally settled on doing the 4 day New York Escape to try it out. We knew we  loved Disney, but we never have tried Adventures by Disney so this was  and none of the family had ever been to New York so it was a way to test it out.

Our travel agent got us an awesome deal on it and even sent us $100 gift card for booking, we literally the same amount that was advertised, but then she found a sale and gave us an extra $100. It was Awesome.

Then she got us packing lists, recommendations for the trip, honestly I don’t think I’ll ever not use a travel agent again…. and like I said, it didn’t cost a penny (I know I’ve mentioned it before, but I work for dealicious mom, I like to save money)

The Trip itself

For years, we’ve been enchanted by Disney’s magic in various forms – Disneyland, Disney World, Aulani, Disney Cruise Line – and what consistently sets Disney apart is there little bits of magic. Our recent New York City Short Escape with Adventures by Disney was no exception. It was bleepin unbelivable!

Here, the the Disney Magic brought us front-of-the-line privileges, behind-the-scenes access, and one-of-a-kind encounters only Disney could orchestrate. Plus, there were even the little things like when it started to rain, umbrellas and ponchos were available instantly.

You’ll Feel like a VIP

I remember our travel agent saying that Adventures by Disney gets the highest customer satisfaction score of any Disney vacation and now I know why. I am telling you, from the moment you land to the moment you step back on the plane ot head home, you will feel like the ultimate VIP. The Adventures by Disney guides are so incredible at what they do

We walked up to the  tour of the Good Morning America Studio. As we approached the studio, we noticed other tour groups waiting in line.

Anticipating a lengthy wait, we were pleasantly surprised when a Disney representative opened a door and ushered our group directly into the studio, straight to an upstairs green room.

While we waited, a Good Morning America stage manager shared an fun pep talk. After the pep talk, we were treated to behind-the-scenes tours and invited to sit in the studio audience for the entire show. We had the privilege of meeting the likes of Michael Strahan, Lara Spencer, and even had a brief chat with the special guest, Chrissy Teigan. Our seats were amazing. I mean seriously everything was amazing

Frozen on Broadway

Another highlight was our Frozen on Broadway experience. Adventures by Disney secured fantastic seats in the “snow zone” for the show, but that wasn’t all. We also attended a Broadway Theater Workshop, where we learned parts of the “Fixer Upper” song and dance routine. Post-performance, we had the extraordinary opportunity to converse with the stars of the show, taking an already amazing experience to unprecedented levels of magic.

And that’s not all; there’s another captivating experience I can’t help but share. Adventures by Disney took us on an exclusive tour of the New Amsterdam Theater, delving into its rich history dating back to 1903. During the tour, we explored areas housing archived Disney Broadway costumes and props, and to our sheer delight, we were given the chance to interact with them! It was an absolute blast.

In a nutshell, we got experiences that elude the general public. This is what makes it an experience that’s nothing short of exceptional!

Almost Everything is Included

One of the awesome things is pretty much everything is included with your trip. Meals (including even local favorites like John’s Pizzeria), tips for the drivers and luggage, the accommodations tickets, and most meals are covered. Only a few meals are not, and this is to give you time to enjoy the adventure a little bit on your own.

Overall

I have done a Disney Cruise, I have done Disney World, I have done Disney’s Aulani, this by far is the best experience. The service and the amount of detail they put into planning everyday is beyond extraordinary. I have already called up Best Day Ever Vacations and booked Costa Rica for Summer 2024. Here is another festive 4th of July dessert! This one actually pops in your mouth!

Total time: 1 hour, 25 minutes | Makes 12
For the cupcakes and frosting:Use 1 batch of Easy Yellow Cupcakes OR I like to use Funfetti Mix to give the recipe that firework effect and 1 batch of Easy Cream Cheese Frosting or a tub of cream cheese frosting from your favorite frosting brand. Make as directed.
To decorate: Frost the cupcakes and top each with one 1-inch piece red licorice twist (for the firecracker stick), one 1-inch piece black shoelace licorice (for the fuse), and ½ teaspoon Pop Rocks candy (for the sparks). I also like to top with a cherry with stem still intact (think cherry bomb)

To make a truly Italian stuffed paper, you need to consider a few things about each component. You can apply these principles to any basic stuffed pepper recipe to make it taste as it came from Italy.

How to Make a Stuffed Pepper Taste Like it Came From Italy

Most stuffed pepper recipes call for a meat, rice, and tomato sauce combination that is boosted with herbs, spices, and aromatics. Consider the following Italian cooking traditions as you prepare each part of your stuffed pepper.

• Replace the Rice with Bread Crumbs:

Unless their making a risotto, Italians don’t typically use rice in their cooking. A traditional Italian stuffed pepper will have dried bread crumbs instead of rice. You can use store-bought Italian bread crumbs to save time. If you really want to get authentic, then you can dry or toast some Italian bread, crumble it up, and add it to your filling.

• Use Italian Meats:

Although we typically think of pasta when we think of Italian food, in most regions, pasta is considered a starter or a side dish, and meat is meant to be the star of the table. Authentic Italian stuffed peppers include a combination of ground meats, typically ground beef, ground pork, and ground veal. You would use equal parts of each. If you don’t have these meats, then you can use all ground beef or a combination of beef and pork or beef and veal. Italians would never use ground turkey or chicken in a traditional stuffed pepper.

• Keep the Sauce Basic:

Many pasta sauces that you see in American grocery stores are not traditional Italian tomato sauces; they are packed with many more spices, herbs, and general additions than an authentic Italian tomato sauce. Italian cooks are proud of and like to highlight their local and fresh ingredients, and they don’t ever want to mask the sweet acidy of just-off-the-vine tomatoes with too many herbs and aromatics, and they don’t want the sauce itself to mask the other components of the dish. A traditional Italian tomato sauce contains these basic ingredients: olive oil, fresh garlic, fresh tomatoes or tomato puree, fresh parsley and/or basil, and coarse salt. That’s it.

• Use Natural Fats:

The meats will contain enough fat to help thicken the filling when combined with bread crumbs, as will your sauce. Italians use olive oil and pretty much only olive oil as the fat in their dishes.

• Use Fresh Herbs & Aromatics:

Italians only use fresh and simple herb combinations. The typical, dried “Italian Seasoning” mix that you probably have on your spice rack contains most of the herbs and spices Italians use; however, the mix requires you to use them all at once, which an Italian would not do. As with the tomato sauce, season your filling with just a few fresh herbs and spices, depending on the flavor profile that you want. Keep in mind what you’re adding to your sauce as you season your meat. You do, however, want to season your meat before adding the sauce components. You can start with some chopped onion sauteed in a bit of olive oil before adding your meat, and then you can add some salt and pepper to your filling.

Other fresh herbs you could include are basil, parsley, or oregano; you wouldn’t want to use all three. Rosemary could also work, and you’ll just want to keep in mind that it’s a strong herb that will stand out, and you won’t want to combine it with anything other than salt and pepper.

• Give The Bell Pepper a Dark Roast:

Italians like their olive oil, and they like to use it to give their roasted veggies a dark roast. Coat the outside of your pepper with olive oil, and give it a nice dark roast. Depending on the base recipe that you’re using and how long you cook your meat before adding it to the pepper, you can even pre-roast your pepper before adding the filling and finishing it off in the oven.

• What About the Cheese?:

Another American misconception is that all Italian food is covered in cheese, which isn’t really true. For example, a traditional Roman lasagna doesn’t have ricotta cheese as the filling and a thick layer of melted mozzarella on top; it has a bit of parmesan and/or romano cheese blended into a bechamel sauce, which is a creamy base sauce consisting of olive oil or butter, flour, and milk or cream. You can add cheese to your peppers; however, if you want to keep it authentic, melting a pile of grated mozzarella onto the tops of your peppers is not the way to go. You can add a bit of grated parmesan or another hard Italian cheese to your filling before stuffing your peppers, and/or you can sprinkle some on the top before serving your peppers. Other than that, a traditional stuffed pepper from Italy would contain little to no cheese.

Use these principles to turn any basic stuffed bell pepper recipe into an authentic Italian dish by keeping it simple and keeping it fresh. Serve your peppers on their own, or you can add a small side of pasta with some of your tomato sauce. A glass of Italian red wine is also a fantastic and truly Italian way to enjoy your meal.
