I was lucky enough to be sent a box of 12 Chobani flavors in return for my review. After trying Chobani for the first time, I loved it! I used it in my Spinach Artichoke Dip I made which turned out SO good! The plain Chobani definitely made it taste a lot better! I never thought to use yogurt in a dip with vegetables!

UPS rolled up to my door and placed this huge box on my front porch. Inside, I was excited to find:

I came home from school and was in the mood for a smoothie. I grabbed the Pomegranate Chobani yogurt, a little bottle of POM juice, a banana and a blender.

This was absolutely DELICIOUS!!

I'm excited to try the rest of the flavors! Adding them to recipes and making delicious drinks. My sister is a HUGE fan of Chobani and I'm sure they will be gone or taken back up to her dorm when she comes home again. If you have never tried it, PLEASE pick some up at the grocery store!

Steven's 23rd Birthday surprises

This has been one heck of a week! I very much enjoyed my day off, which also happened to be Steven's 23rd birthday. He never makes a big deal about anything so I figured I would make a big deal for him! Monday, I gathered all the materials I was going to need. Tuesday, I slept in until 8:30am then got up to put the birthday plan into action! This is how the day went:

I stopped at Tim Hortons and bought an XL coffee then walked into his house and started cooking breakfast right away. Once it was ready, I hovered over his bed with a balloon and a card and tried to get his dogs to climb on him but wasn't very successful. Apparently he had been awake and he was just waiting to see how long it was going to take me to "wake him up".

It looks awful, and he only took 2 bites and passed it to me, but I was hungry enough to eat it all...I didn't look far enough into his fridge to find plain cheese for the eggs, so I mixed in taco cheese...haha not his favorite mixture. A little ketchup made it all better.

Next, we went to the gym and did the normal work out. Lifting weights. There are certain workouts I like, but I must admit, I'm not as much of a gym complainer as I was last year! Summer is coming, definitely not the time to be complaining ;)

After the gym, we went back to his house and he played video games......what else is new? Once it was close to dinner time, I began preparing the meal- Salmon, garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus (I forgot how horrible this vegetable makes your pee stink! ew!). Everything came out PERFECT!!! I was so proud of myself! Half way through our meals we became tired so we took a 45 minute nap. He's not a big napper so it was hard for him to take advantage of that time. Me on the other hand slept the entire time and enjoyed every second of that power nap. Cooking is exhausting!

Dinner was then cleaned up and he was off to his Tuesday night class. This is when my favorite surprise went into action muahaah (evil laugh). I have always wanted to fill someone's room with balloons and Steven was my victim. I bought 5 bags of assorted balloons at the dollar store, streamers and signs. I sat and blew up approximately 100 balloons by myself. I took breaks between each bag so I didn't drop dead from lack of oxygen. Every couple of balloons, I would giggle to myself as I looked around the room at how ridiculous his room looked and imagining what his reaction would be. I had threatened to show up to his classroom, but he shot that idea down really quickly....(I'll get you next year Steven, don't worry!) This is the outcome of my balloon surprise:

When he got home, I hid in the bathroom closet until he opened his door. He ended up liking it so the day overall was a very successful one! I'm still alive after all those balloons and for his 22nd birthday after his failed meal, I said I had 365 days to make a perfect meal for his 23rd birthday AND I succeeded!

To complete his birthday, we went to dinner and an Amerks (AHL hockey) game the next day! He's a huge hockey fan so it seemed like a fitting event. We were able to get 2 tickets (2 rows from the glass) and 2 $10 Distillery gift cards for $34!! It pays to be cheap!

Overall, he had a good birthday and although he is not a "show emotion" kinda guy, I can tell he enjoyed everything. I now have 362 days to come up with 24th birthday surprises.....dun dun dunnnn.

Healthy Spinach Artichoke Dip

I had intended to make this spinach artichoke dip for Superbowl, but we had way too many dips as it was so I saved the spinach. Today, after I FINALLY organized all my coupons, did a couple store deals and finished getting the ingredients for Steven's birthday meals, I was craving this dip......I am IN LOVE with it!!! So simple, and I didn't mess it up!

This is a very healthy recipe! Check out the details:

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cook time: 15-20 minutes

This is a vegetarian dish

16 servings

Serving size= 1/4 cup= 2 points + (Weight Watchers)

Nutrition facts per serving:

65 calories; 3g fat; 6g carbohydrates; 6g protein; 4g fiber

Spinach Artichoke Dip

Ingredients:

2-14 oz cans of artichoke hearts (drained)
1 cup chopped, frozen spinach (thawed)
1 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
4 oz reduced fat cream cheese
1/2 cup fat free plain Greek yogurt
4 garlic cloves, minced
2 tsp freshly grated lemon zest (I did not include this in mine)
1/2 tsp paprika
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Chop artichoke hearts in food processor (I used hand chopper)
Heat cream cheese in microwave until soft (about 30-45 seconds)
Add: Parmesan cheese, cream cheese, yogurt, garlic, lemon zest, paprika, salt and pepper into food processor (I used large bowl). Puree until smooth.
Add spinach to bowl and stir
Pour mixture into shallow baking dish
Bake for 10-20 minutes (I did 15 minutes)
ENJOY!!
