In a Nutshell: Don’t read the book yet or research this true story so that you can enjoy the dramatic journey for yourself.

Shailene Woodley gives an excellent performance and carries the film through romance and survival.

Some profanity, including 1 F-bomb.

Things I liked:

I loved that Tami was a strong, capable woman who was good at math too!
I always like it when movies about true stories show pictures and/or video of the real people who experienced the events.
Richard Sharp names his boat “Mayaluga”, which means “one who crosses the horizon” in another language. I love the metaphor.
Good CGI and transitions.
Shailene Woodley digs deep for a gripping performance. If you enjoy her in this, you might like to see some of her earlier work in the Divergent series. Her co-star in that franchise, Miles Teller, was going to play Richard in this movie, but after he dropped out, Sam Claflin was cast.

Things I didn’t like:

If you’re prone to sea sickness, you just might get a little woozy. The majority of the movie was actually filmed at sea, so there wasn't as much CGI as you would think there would be. Rumor has it that there was a lot of vomiting during the shooting.

Funny lines:

“We’re going to die out here!” – Tami

“We might.” – Richard

“You’re not supposed to say that!” – Tami

Interesting lines:

“Remember, it could be worse.” – Richard
“A voice told me I had to survive.” – Tami

Justice League gets mixed reviews

Movie Title:
Justice LEAGUE

Grade: B

Rating: PG-13, 110 minutes

In a Nutshell: With this much superpower force, this movie should have been awesome, but is getting very mixed reviews.

The gathering of the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War brought together fun and quirky personalities that created a super spark that surprised and delighted audiences, something that this movie struggles with.

Uplifting theme:

“Hope is like your car keys – easy to lose, but if you look around, you can find it.” - Superman (Henry Cavill)
“Hope is real. All you have to do is look…up in the sky.” – Lois Lane (Amy Adams)

Things I liked:

I think Gal Gadot is gorgeous and I was looking forward to seeing her again after her successful Wonder Woman movie. Unfortunately, she gets a little lost in all the testosterone and frenzied action.
Keep watching ALL the way to the very last of the rolling credits to see two more clips.
The Amazonian women are awesome. Their battle sequence was one of the best in the entire movie. Their costumes and hair were dramatically changed from what they looked like in the Wonder Woman movie. Hmmm...which one is going to stick?
Most of the CGI is really great.
I like Ben Affleck as Batman. He’s certainly the solid leader in this league and his fans will think his opening scene is really cool.
I thought Jason Momoa made a cool, bad boy Aquaman and I'm excited to see him in his own feature film for this character, which comes out December 21, 2018 in the USA.

Things I didn’t like:

I was excited to see how DC was going to handle Superman’s death, and was pleased to see he was given so much respect in this movie. I really like Henry Cavill as Superman in Man of Steel (2013) I think Henry Cavill is so handsome, but what was going on with his CGI face? It turns out that he had a mustache for his upcoming role in Mission Impossible and Paramount forbade him to remove it, so they used CGI to brush over the stash. Weird, right? I thought it was ridiculous that Batman beat Superman to begin with in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Superman is way better than Batman. Some of the action sequences seemed so rush and chaotic that it's hard to see what's happening. You don't see a lot of civilians in the fighting areas, which tends to make the scenes feel less dangerous and urgent.
The DC movies are much more dark than the Avenger films. Based on huge box office sales at Marvel movies, audiences seem to prefer a more light-hearted superhero action flick. My youngest son explains it by saying, “Marvel is self-aware and doesn’t take itself so seriously.” Yup.
I would have loved to see more of Atlantis.
Barry Allen/The Flash played by Ezra Miller is supposed to provide the comic relief for the movie, but a lot of the humor falls flat. He also looks really strange when he's running. Weird, since that's his big talent.
People who aren’t familiar with DC Comics may not know who Steppenwolf is, other than they’ve heard of the rock band with the same name. ha ha We first saw a blurred glimpse of Steppenwolf in a deleted scene in the movie Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, which was later released online. He’s scary, mean, bad, and angry, but there are rumors we’ll learn more about him and the Darkseid in future movies.
JUSTICE LEAGUE had to undergo a lot of reshoots and redo’s, because it was directed by two different directors. Unfortunately, the first director’s daughter died, so he pulled out of the project.
The character introductions seemed rushed for the new superheroes like Aquaman, Cyborg, and the Flash. Warner Brothers has tried to keep their superhero movies at 2 hours or less, but this movie could have benefitted by longer backstories that explained character motivation better. Comic book fans who are familiar with the characters and stories will be able to fill in the missing gaps, but the general public won’t.
It always bugs me when trailers have lines and scenes that aren’t even in the final movie.
Once you see the movie, you’ll probably forget it.

“It’s good to see you play well with others again.” – Alfred (Jeremony Irons)

“Dressed like a bat. I dig it.” – Aquaman

“It may be temporary.” – Batman

“Children. I work with children.” – Wonder Woman

Tips for parents:

One of the superheroes drinks alcohol.
Some profanity.
Shootings, violent fighting, death of humans and other creatures.
Lots of butt shots and skimpy clothing on Wonder Woman. I really liked her movie, but she's treated like just another pretty object in this one.

There are a ton of things you can do to bring in extra money to pay those bills and stretch your dollars.

My dad used to always say, "Money doesn't grow on trees." The fact is, nobody is going to just hand you money; you have to do something. No, wait a minute...they just might!

You may actually have free money hiding out there that you don’t
even know about! It’s true! Every state has an “Unclaimed Property” department which you can easily use to help you find money!

Start at www.unclaimed.org, the website of the National
Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators. Every state’s procedure for claiming money is different, so be sure to check every state where you have resided and worked, and follow their
guidelines. Amazingly enough, you may actually have forgotten about some pennies out there!

Hey, it’s worth a shot, and will only take you a few minutes online.

I found a small paycheck my husband forgot to pick up when he did seasonal work for a company as a teenager. (I would never forget to pick up a paycheck!) I also found some money
for my dad that was sitting in an old bank account he had closed years ago. (Yes, I gave it to him and didn’t keep it for myself.) You’ll need to produce certain documents to prove you are who
you claim to be before the money is released.

In the words of legendary sports announcer Harry Caray, "Hello everybody! It's a bee-yooo-tiful day for baseball!" You've bought this book and stepped up to the plate. That tells me you're really serious about improving your relationship with the woman in your life. Either that or she bought this book for you, and now you have to read it because you know she's going to ask you what you learned. Don't worry; it's not going to be that bad. After all, it's partly about baseball, and you love baseball! Romance and baseball are not all that different, actually. They're both skills that you can learn and enjoy for the rest of your life.

You could read an entire book about baseball statistics, but that wouldn't make you a better player out on the field, would it? You have to get out and practice! This book is designed to be read in small sections and put into practice. Read a little bit, and then try an idea or two to see what works for you and your sweetheart. I guarantee you're going to have a ball! (Terrible baseball puns will be included throughout this book in order to keep your eyes rolling and awake.)

Let me first state the obvious that women are different from men. And that's a good thing! A lot of men have a hard time trying to figure out what women want and how they think. It's not that difficult if you learn their language and appreciate the differences. To make it easier, we're going to use terms you might feel comfortable with: the language of baseball.

This book is written for both men who are still in the "minor league" (dating) and men who have been drafted into the "major league" (marriage). Getting a girl and keeping her are not all that different. Maybe you've been playing too much baseball and still don't have a woman in your life. This book can help you with that too! This book will help you find a quality woman you can marry and be with for eternity.

This book was conceived one day after my husband and I were discussing our relationship early in our marriage. He's going to get a lot of credit in this book for some of the really great things he does in our marriage. When I need to use him as an example of whatnot to do, I'll just tell you, "I have a friend whose husband..." so you'll never know if it's him or really a friend of mine. Hey, I don't want to get in trouble with my husband and end up sitting on the bench.

My husband, Tom, is really creative and has come up with some incredible gifts over the years. Early in our marriage, he really came through on big events such as anniversaries and birthdays, but then there were disappointing and somewhat alarming long dry spells with nothing. No flowers. No romance. Nada. Our conversations occurred during one of those dry spells and basically consisted of my pitiful complaints that I was feeling unloved and unappreciated. I suggested that maybe he could replace the few big efforts with more frequent, smaller ones. He thought about that for a few minutes and said, "Oh, it's just like baseball. Home runs are exciting but don't happen that often. It's the small, consistent base hits that win the game." In a baseball peanut shell, that's it!

Each chapter will contain some ideas you can put into practice to improve your current relationship or help you figure out how to get one! Even the greatest guy and the best relationship can use some tweaking every now and then. The first-base challenges are to help you ease into The Game. Go for second or third base to up your game. When you're ready to really knock it out of the park, try the home-run assignments.

Now, I'm not talking about rounding the bases in the traditional sense the world talks about it. I'm referring to bases as increasing efforts and bigger payoffs. What I mean is that if you're a beginner in the game of romance or want to start with something easy, then begin with the first-base assignments. They're simple to do, and you'll have some success. If you really want your girl to feel loved and appreciated, go for the home-run assignments. They require more effort, but the payoff is bigger too. "Happy wife, happy life," as people say.

First Base: Set this book out on a table so your girl will see it. Yeah, your buddies will make fun of you. That's okay though; you don't want to kiss your buddies.

Second Base: Put a bookmark somewhere in the book so she'll think you're actually reading it. Be prepared for her to ask you questions about it. Let her know it is the most fantastic book ever written.

Third Base: Read the doggone book already!

Home Run: Read the book with your girl. Ask her questions. Talk about it.

To keep the fire going, you have to continue adding some fuel, right?

So grab some popcorn, peanuts, and Cracker Jacks and let's play ball.

A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN

This is a section that will be at the end of each chapter just for the ladies. Girls, you're not off the hook here. You have work to do too. A happy, healthy relationship includes two people.

Warren Buffet has an estimated fortune at around 50 billion dollars, 99% of which he intends to give to charity after his death. Wow!

He is one of the top 5 richest men in the world. You'd think he would have some good financial advice worth listening to, right? Alrighty then, game on! The following are some tips he has shared with the world on a variety of topics, including money:

On Reputation

It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you'll do things differently.

On his most basic rules

Rule No.1: Never lose money. Rule No.2: Never forget rule No.1.

On sources of income

Never count on a single income. Make investments to create additional sources of revenue.

On spending

If you buy things you don't need, you'll soon have to sell things you do need.

On saving

Don't save what you have left after spending, but spend what you have left after saving.

On taking risks

Never measure the deepness of a river with both legs.

On honesty

Honesty is a very expensive thing, don't expect it from cheap people.

On inheritance

A rich man must leave his children enough to do anything, but not enough to do nothing.

On ideas

You do things when the opportunities come along. I've had periods in my life when I've had a bundle of ideas come along, and I've had long dry spells. If I get an idea next week, I'll do something. If not, I won't do a damn thing.

On the trickle theory

The rich are always going to say that, you know, just give us more money and we'll go out and spend more and then it will all trickle down to the rest of you. But that has not worked the last 10 years, and I hope the American public is catching on.

On investing in the future

Someone's sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.

On Habits

Chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken.

On becoming rich

I always knew I was going to be rich. I don't think I ever doubted it for a minute.

On learning from betters

It's better to hang out with people better than you. Pick out associates whose behavior is better than yours and you'll drift in that direction.

On price and value

Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.

On taxes for the rich

If anything, taxes for the lower and middle class and maybe even the upper middle class should even probably be cut further. But I think that people at the high end - people like myself - should be paying a lot more in taxes. We have it better than we've ever had it.

On challenges

I don't look to jump over 7-foot bars: I look around for 1-foot bars that I can step over.

On being rich

Of the billionaires I have known, money just brings out the basic traits in them. If they were jerks before they had money, they are simply jerks with a billion dollars.

On risk

Risk comes from not knowing what you're doing.

On wall street

Wall Street is the only place that people ride to in a Rolls Royce to get advice from those who take the subway.

On how he invests

I never attempt to make money on the stock market. I buy on the assumption that they could close the market the next day and not reopen it for five years.

On hindsight

In the business world, the rearview mirror is always clearer than the windshield.

On ponzi schemes

Only when the tide goes out do you discover who's been swimming naked.

On learning from history

If past history was all there was to the game, the richest people would be librarians.

On healing the economy

Economic medicine that was previously meted out by the cupful has recently been dispensed by the barrel. These once unthinkable dosages will almost certainly bring on unwelcome after-effects. Their precise nature is anyone's guess, though one likely consequence is an onslaught of inflation.

World War Z movie is intense fun

Brad Pitt. Need I say more? Well ok, if you're a guy, you're going to want more out of this June thrill ride than just staring at the aging, yet still handsome half of Brangelina. World War Z is a fun summer blockbuster about a zombie apocalypse, loosely based on the popular book that my sons devoured back in 2006 entitled "World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War" by Max Brooks. I wonder if Brad Pitt's kids also read the book when it came out and clamored for pop to film it. His production company, Plan B Entertainment, quickly secured the screen rights for it in 2007.

Rumor has it that the budget for this flick chewed up over $400 million with some post-production re-writes that caused its later release. In fact, the last 40 minutes of the movie were completely remade. Some critics claim the post-production troubles make the movie a bit choppy, but as long as you have popcorn in your mouth, you're going to be entertained. The zombie craze still seems to be alive and well, so ticket sales look promising.

Brad Pitt is confident it's going to do well and told US Today, "Listen, I'm pretty proud of this film. It's just big and fun and this is the most intense thing you're going to see all year." He said it was the most intense thing he's done, and he certainly has skin in the game on this one...so to speak.

Brad Pitt plays Gerry Lane, a retired UN employee who gets called in to help find the origins of the undeadly strain that is turning humans into rabid zombies. Gerry Lane is properly motivated to search the globe for a cure in return for his family's safety and protection on one of the few floating ships turned safe zones in the ocean.

Combine Gerry Lane's effective survival skills with Brad Pitt's golden locks and you get some action scenes that even hard-core preppers will admire. It's challenging enough to survive the slow-moving zombies in "The Walking Dead", but these creepy corpses "turn" in only 12 seconds, race after you at very quick speeds, jump onto the high walls surrounding Jerusalem, and even pull down a helicopter. Your heart will pound in suspense and you'll try to quiet your breath when you learn that loud sounds attract the rabid humans.

Gerry Lane counsels a family locked up in a New Jersey apartment after the chaotic outbreak that "movement is life." His former experience getting in and out of hot zones helps him come up with resourceful survival ideas, saving himself and others along the way, including a female soldier in the Israeli army.

If you loved the popular TV show "Lost", you'll get a kick out of seeing Matthew Fox as one of the parajumpers that fights to protect those seeking a cure. Audiences will be introduced to Mireille Enos, who plays Brad Pitt's frightened and dutiful wife.

The special effects are amazing and pretty believable. As my kids say, "It could happen."

The movie is being released in 2D, RealID 3D, and IMAX 3D. While I love a good 3D experience, this particular film doesn't work well in 3D because of the camera's shakiness, so see it in 2D and you won't get dizzy.
